2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 vs Camaro ZL1 1LE vs Hellcat Redeye // DRAG RACE, ROLL RACE & LAP TIMES

Feb 23, 2020
Alright James, it's the day we have the tracking books, we have the canyon roads, we have three cars, but there are only two of us, that's true, yeah, we could probably benefit from another presenter. The problem is who is a fool and ready to go. the extra mile as much as we do because at the end of the day yes, that's what matters um no goodness sorry um well the problem I have is that I do fast laps at home well but here I don't know the track and look where we're going finding a racing driver that's good enough, that's right, that's the biggest worry I have, I hope, yeah, sorry, I got it, yeah, no, I lost it.

You are looking at the bottle house. I'm Thomas. and I'm James and these are three of the most powerful American cars ever made. This is a fun day. In fact, one of the reasons this is a fun day is that we're partnering with Dough Maze to keep one of these away and we're donating $20,000. we'll talk more about it at the end, but now all you need to know is that you can enter it by going to a dot com maze with the accelerator, this is the Camaro zero one zero one one with ten speeds and yes, these are very powerful cars. and these are foreign roads for me and Thomas I'm British he's Canadian we don't belong our parents got scared and in the end they said we needed a companion and that's me I'm the babysitter I'm in the big fat old American car because I'm the old American Big and fat, the Ford Mustang GT500, is the new dog here, but it's not without rivals, these three cars are special and deserve a proper test, that's why we not only brought in Jason Shirt to help, but also later .

More Interesting Facts About,

After a

drag

and

roll

race

, Randy Post himself will set lap

times

, so the GT500 is Ford's new nemesis and answer to one of our favorite cars and, coincidentally, the fastest car to appear on the throttle house test track in old canada, the

camaro

zl1. 1le, which by the way has more torque than that Mustang, unfortunately any power rivalry between the two pales in comparison to something even more beastly, as is tradition, it was before the beauty Jason, I hear you're a British file, oh, hey, before we start talking about cars named after part numbers let's talk about how awesome dodge is at coming up with really cool marketing names for challengers special packages starting with scat pack which sounds nasty but It's actually awesome, and then there's Hellcat red eye demon.
2020 mustang shelby gt500 vs camaro zl1 1le vs hellcat redeye drag race roll race lap times
I mean, these are awesome names and I don't expect you to keep all these cars straight, but now that the 808 horsepower demon is dead, the 797 horsepower

redeye

is the most powerful challenger you can get. Actually, it's the same engine, but it has a deviated septum and can't. It breathes no air worth 808 horsepower. Also, what you need to know is that this is a widebody, which, come to think of it, isn't actually a good marketing name, that widebody kit isn't actually a visual thing. basically a sports package, so in addition to the fenders you get the big Brembos and 20-inch wheels with the 305 s all around, but also adaptive dampers, stiffer springs and bars and shorter gear ratios at the rear .
2020 mustang shelby gt500 vs camaro zl1 1le vs hellcat redeye drag race roll race lap times
This is a true sports package. for the car, but it's not a track package unlike the other two cars here, it turns a clunky 4500 pound car with too much power into a great 4500 pound car with too much power, oh that's really fast. 5.2 liters supercharged. v8 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque this car is absolutely crazy so yeah these are all really powerful cars and they are all supercharged v8s and this thing has 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft foot of torque and yet somehow it is the least powerful. Of the three, let that sink in for a second, yeah, okay, but just for a second, the GT500 starts at 70 thousand US dollars, but it's not even its final form because for only eighteen thousand five hundred dollars or the price of buying a new Toyota.
The Yaris Ford will remove the rear seats for you and give you a carbon fiber spoiler that is adjustable and they will give you carbon fiber cup wrapped wheels two Michelin Pilot Sport and a carbon fiber instrument panel and what that does is changing the four

gt500

from a track capable car to a track monster Oh posh with your 760 horsepower this is 797 but I can't really say anything bad about that Mustang

gt500

because I just did a tremendously fabulous, incredibly wonderful, detailed and amazing video about the gt500. For the east, Channel and I really loved that car, but there's something I really like about this challenge: and that's clarity of purpose.
Both Ford and Chevy have invested millions into making what is effectively a full-size coupe drive like a Chrysler sports car. I didn't bother, this thing is still a muscle brand with the most primitive ridiculous scream ever, so no, it doesn't like a Mustang and it doesn't scream like a red eye, but this is the zero 1 1 l e and that means. some and yes, some of that is fun visual stuff like the black accents, but the one pack does it all with one thing in mind: grip and that comes in two main flavors. First, we have these exclusive co-developers for this Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R car. tires which, as I discovered early this morning, can be a bit scary in the cold, but also because of the incredible aerodynamics, we have a specially designed front splitter that these ridiculous ones can't and that one piece spoiler at the rear that by It alone creates 300 pounds of downforce.
All things that should help this car destroy itself in every metric, other than top speed, which may or may not be detrimental in a test today, but before we get to that test where I have a little surprise in store, Let's see how these cars drive on the road. Alright? Here's what you need to know about the GT500. First of all, it's ridiculously fast. Secondly, the transmission is incredibly good. The paddles are connected directly to the transmission, so when I ask for the next gear, it gives it to me. As fast as 80 milliseconds, downshifts are incredibly quick and upshifts have a nice touch.
We recently drove the Shelby Super Snake which was more powerful than this one, a supercharged v8 too and we put it in a manual transmission which is a lot of fun. but the thing is, even though it's registered as a Shelby, it was primarily a Mustang GT, it's not a normal Mustang GT, the horn is altered with every imaginable part of this car to do something that even on a back road like this. It feels like an experience, the vibrations come through the steering wheel, the noises it makes are incredible, the chassis is stiff but compliant, the damping is really good and it's adjustable, but my favorite part by far is that while the steering on the regular Mustang GT leaves a lot to be desired, which is a fancy way of saying it sucks, this thing is amazing, solid on center, nice vibrations felt on the road, in fact the only thing that ever separated the Mustang of the Camaro for me was the steering and the news is good because the the steering on this one is as good or better than the Camaro, so on the road the gt500 is completely new and it is fine, but some

times

the old is also Well or maybe old is just old, it's easy to make fun of this car for being old because it's old, I mean.
I have one, technically I have one, it has a Mercedes badge, it's a four-door and it has a Cosworth engine and a dogleg, but it would fit in the boot of this car. Yes, the DNA of the car dates back to the 1982 Mercedes 190, but that means this car has gone through continuous evolution and great things happen from continuous evolutions. Porsche 911. This is a really nice evolution of car for

2020

. It has electric power steering and it is actually very good. This is a 2019 model. It is a one year only car with hydraulic power steering and there is so much going on in the steering that if you are used to driving modern cars you might think something is broken, it has 300 fives everywhere and tram lines everywhere sides.
I love it, seller 1 is a car that should be taken very seriously and today we drove it in the 2019 onwards 10 speed automatic version, for now we will take it to the track in a second but for now. On the road I can tell you that the automatic shifts are quick, however the paddle shifters take a while to respond and that's where the GT500 takes the lead; it's just that fraction of a second of delay. Chevrolet has created a full-blown sports car and in doing so, they've put ridiculous tires on it, they ride everywhere on the road, the visibility is terrible, but the chassis is so tired, the damping is so stiff that even driving this on On the road I ran into Greta Bleah confirming things, it was just the All the way and the ergonomics aren't that perfect either, there's no real place to rest your elbows if you're up here, the Mustang has it like that, just like the red eyes, but the sound is amazing and if you want, you can put it on.
On tour it's as quiet as a psalm, except for all the road noise and vibrations, but that's not the mode it's best enjoyed in, and like the other two, it comes to life on the track, which is a where it belongs. What you need to know. Before we hit the track, is that on a back road like this, the gt500 is a weapon, but you can actually enjoy it, it's a lot of fun, a very impressive vehicle, yes obviously this car has some disadvantages, many of them. these things are still very much Mustang hard plastics the turning circle is abysmal the fuel economy is unacceptably bad but who cares really it's about the engine it's about the noise it's about the experience yeah because I think these are really cool , all three are great looking cars.
There are two of these shared philosophies, although in terms of style, I think this one with the carbon fiber hood and the canards, this one is the baddest one here, for sure, yeah, with this it's hard to look bad when you're wearing lipstick. yellow lipsticks, not lipstick, it was a face you're supposed to take off, you know the same rules as those mattress labels that say if someone cuts it, who's not the end consumer, everyone goes to jail, I'm the owner of this car. I'm not allowed to touch it and by the way you know there the yellow is turning pink in celebration of breast cancer awareness that's very nice of you you know why I have pins in my hood and they work they make the true yes, all about this.
It looks cool, this front end is more different from the normal ones on a1 and it does things to me, listen they said it looks quite different, it's a caricature of a 60's car and say what you want about retro design, this is it Beautiful piece, it's a big piece, the wheels are really good, yeah, they look great, the fenders really completed the design of this car, they're not carbon fiber, although you know, the car weighs ninety two hundred pounds, Also yes, the Hellcats like it. in the lighthouse oh yeah it doesn't care about being light or fancy in any way or not tacky in the decal setting yeah it's vice tone on tone red eyes so we survive the canyon roads if we go . to the track, sure, okay, I mean by this, yes, the chosen track Willow Springs International Raceway, a fast and aggressive track that we will explore in a minute, but first let's do a

drag

race

, okay, track mode drag, traction controls off, that's it, uh, I swear the Camaro was I swear the Camaro was great before, so I stopped at a regular zl1 because I know we're going to get rid of me when the 1le loses, it has so many arrows Which gives you a big disadvantage here, fifty dollars, he says.
Thomas doesn't even realize that James just showed up in a blue car let alone that it's not single file anyway, I don't care because I have no chance of winning for two reasons number one as you can hear. sick as a dog number two, having your line cut off is really hard to read. Obviously it's even worse. The incredible quarter mile times you see are on a race track, which means it's VHT, which means it's a prepared surface with a lot more grip here in the real world are impossible to throw at. I'm going to start at quarter throttle in second gear and then downshift from there to control the wheelspin.
You may have the most power here, but it will take a little time. It was a miracle for me to win this drag race, but again, looking at the people I'm racing against, I mean, Thomas has no idea that there's a full second of delay built into launch control and that gt500, like that Which I hope when it starts moving. I'm already a second ahead. I also have some good luck charms because we are in the United States. I feel uncomfortable, so there's Terrance and Phillip, there's my future princess, and there's the man himself, Justino, okay, because last timeWe did this test, you know.
It was like driving Co

roll

as, we weren't scared at all, but this time I felt like you know the Mustang is pretty scary. I think I can beat him, but I just want to be prepared, okay, here we go, let's go and randy says gentle gentle gentle so the guys overqualified the delay think about it jolin's number 1 told you he was going to lose, okay, let's make a roll race this kind of matches the results of the current drivers discovered that the zl1 No row was within a tenth of this time in the quarter mile, so when it comes to reality, the launch control delay It makes sense for the next test, we round the last corner at 50 miles per hour. we stand next to each other and look for Randy's signal, take off the launch, okay, flora and horsepower win, bye guys, come on, come on, that's a clean victory for the red eyes.
Bullock's red eyes take on the role. We don't need them, none of us. I need we don't need them, no we don't need them, shut up man, yeah, put some weight on, bald baby Jesus, that's fast, the steering is as good as anything left here, especially at the limit. and that's high praise for the power rack on that red eye, but it's really good, the gt500 feels like it belongs here in any other environment, it feels like a caged lion, this is the monster it is, but with more compliance, the monsters, oh god. God the speed on the straights I usually talk more about but the gt500 wowed me, it's a blast to drive and perfectly balanced at the limit and the 7 speed dual clutch is violently fast in a straight line but then fluid in the corners so It does not alter the balance of the car.
I was impressed. In fact, I could have shot the whole thing. David Jason kicked me on the slopes. We could run free. But I never took your mom to a strip club because that's what this feels like. on a race track, I mean, she actually does her job, she's got a lot of grip, um, but you'd get the feeling that she just doesn't want to be here, yeah, come on, oh, she's a big girl, I mean, not really you can complain. this car to do things but other than going fast in a straight line it just doesn't want to the steering is heavy the car is heavy the suspension feels like it's trying to pound the track into submission no no no no no no this is not like that What you wanted, a track car, SRT never made this a track car and that's why I don't think all the engineering money in the world could honestly turn one of these things into a track machine, but why not you need it? when you can do this, yes, zero beats a

mustang

by a dick, but not in a alley way because in a file way we have D SS V shocks that are not fixed like the mag ride on the normal zl1, the top speed from this he suffers.
I'm on a track, it's a monster, and my complaints about the ride quality on the highway fade away because the Taurus delivers confidence. This chest is amazing. The downshifts are very fast. Now I know Thomas likes to ride with the manual paddle shift mode, but this. Automatic is so good that he does exactly what he wanted to do. I don't need to touch the paddles and this is a good thing because they are not as responsive while at least they are not as responsive as the gt500 and I know this from Randy's Hot Naps, he also used only the automatic, he did not touch the shifter because the adjustment Chevy's transmission is so good at this that it doesn't have the power steering red eye, although it gives enough feedback and where the steering doesn't.
I don't give feedback, the chassis makes up the rest, although the gt500 is brand new, but it's hard to compete at just one level, but Randi's people will try and if you're not already familiar with Randi, he's a decorated racing driver. who really holds the record here at Big Willow so let's start with the red eyes here are his best moments back oh come down the straights people 140-150 down boy I feel the red eyes put on a lot of pressure on the pedal, a lot of understeer on a climb. in three big understeer, big oversteer, I have a little bit of everything, strong understeer, strong understeer, strong torque exiting the corner, these four LED zeros are no match for the other competitors' track tires, well, we get out of the corner. curve, though hello cat, so immediately boost the load swimming, take it baby here we go 130 140 it's happening that fast people a sip boom hot turn with red eyes hot turns done it's time to chimera in 40 more Oh, now one new oh yeah, it stops good, got the brakes, smart transmission, your automatic, but boy does it know what to do, yeah, point that baby down, yeah, over the hill, 115 on the exit, that's a good number , oh, we get the power every two eight nine.
I can feel the corner talking, oh yeah, a baby Camaro chassis. for the flat spot on the 108 Oh Merrill, people do a good job with it, finally Randy takes the gt500, this is the carbon package, it has michelin sport, come on, they are not very new, almost all tiles will give you the best slap when they are new. with nothing more than a warm up lap Oh no, this thing is fast, nice rotation, Shelby would be proud now, boy, I said now, boy, sit back with hot laughs. I put more chapters with my entries, whoo, oh, there is grip, this thing is fast. oh my gosh, it definitely feels like a hundred more horsepower than the Camaro.
They're not exaggerating that number with that carbon package with the carbon fiber wheels. You can feel that the handling makes the car turn better to stop well before we arrive. show lap times know that yes we actually had randy do those hot laps first thing in the morning to get all the tires as fresh as possible so here are the times we had suspected from the start of the day . The track was a little slow overall, but the most important thing was that we had to ask Randy how he lost the GT500. Plus, Jason's illness finally caught up with him, so he needed some rest.
He's probably allergic to Canadians. Randy Wow, why did the gt500 lose to the Mustang? it came with tires that were well cooked and the

camaro

is too good to get that kind of tire advantage okay so if the gt500 came with new cup two it would win although yeah i mean it's ten miles an hour faster on each pitch. Okay, okay, before we decide which one we want, that's when I hear a word about red-eyed Jason, okay, I've seen him look better. I'll be honest, go ahead, so which one would you choose? I would take the GT500 knowing that that's almost $20,000 cheaper, you'd still take it, although it has a smoother engine and a smoother ride and that really in 180 form only pertains to the track as I really struggle with that on the road. road for the last few days, okay?
I would also choose the gt500. I just think it's the best overall package. They don't tell the park that it's a fantastic car. It's nonsense, no, it's an absolute victory. Randy, which one would you choose? I have been a fan of the GT500 for a long time. Camaro and the Alpha platform and I'm cheap, what's your Camaro worth, okay, okay Jason, which one would you choose? Call dr. so for a chance to win a Ford GT 500 and believe me, you want to win a GT 500 and $20,000, all you have to do is go to the amazing dotcom acceleration house.
The best part is that your entries go to a great cause. help gas mono foundation so go to omae communications acceleration house go there donate good luck ok thanks for watching this was our biggest project so far on the channel so subscribe if you want to see more stuff like this one we upload every week and if you haven't seen them yet, check out our other track videos.
