2019 BMW 330i xDrive G20 Owner Review

Jun 08, 2021
Hi, I'm Greg from Centerline and I want to do an

owner

review

on a

2019

IX 3:30 unit. I bought this about two weeks ago and basically wanted to give my opinion since I was looking at so many

review

s for so much. Lots of different vehicles and basically every review of this car I could find. I felt like I wish there was an

owner

review where I could see someone who actually owned the vehicle and drove it versus someone who was maybe just a guy checking it out and driving it for a week or just driving it for a day at a dealership, like that. that this is something that I hope to fill in the gaps for those of you who are looking for an owners review for this

the sport line and I will have to show you all the options it has, but the only thing I wanted to make sure is that it had adaptive cruise control, which was one of my must have features and I compared it to the other brands I have had with adaptive cruise control .

I'm really impressed by the way it drives, but one of the reasons I chose this car is because it looks like a classic BMW in terms of lines, it has of course kidney grilles that are larger than usual. average, but it will hold up well and age well, so I also bought the mineral white, which is why my wife has an alpine white car and she. I really love it, but I like the mineral white as it comes off in the sun. You have 18 inch wheels. I don't have the M Sport package again, so the 18-inch wheels are as small a car as it is.

I would like to get it to have a lot of size inside. I'll show you, but one of the things I love here is just the smoked taillights, so these are just the factory taillights and most people like to try to turn them off. lights to make it look like this so I think this looks pretty awesome here so also classic BMW I guess it's a hockey stick or a design but again this is going to age well here dual exhaust tips . I like that I have the assistance. I didn't know if I would like that, but I think it's good.

I've used it on every census that's been taken and then of course down here there's really just a battery so you can't get underneath it unless you write. lever underneath, but there's only one battery underneath, so these are flat tires, but there's a little bit of room here, the seats fold forward. I'm holding both so I can put my bike back here, which is pretty nice and take. I use it for a walk, then I have a little gear buried back there, but there's a lot of space, but I love the design. I love how the lines look.

I've had it for about two weeks and put it in a week. We did 2200 miles as we headed down into southern Utah and we did it, we went to Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon and we did a good run so it was a game and this is what it looks like with the headlights on and during the day. running lights, this one has the laser headlights which are quite impressive they illuminate the road very well. I have used the car on our high beam/low beam function still trying to get used to it and turning it off.
I'm just using the high beam on myself because I felt like it's super active to turn on the high beam and it happens that right now the front grill is open trying to cool down and it actually closes so you can see in. Now, why does it close when you go at high speeds and try to take more care of our dynamics? According to them, according to the designers, one of the features that had been established at the dealership was that when you walk up to the car it will unlock. for you and then when you walk away from the car it will close and at first I thought it was cool but then I was standing outside my car talking to someone and the car was confused thinking I was getting in or going. lock unlock lock unlock so I found it easier to turn it off although I thought it was a cool feature and just use the normal function and you put your hand in and it unlocks and then you can get in so I want to talk about here if I could first of all , it's very quiet, obviously, the engine is running, but it's very quiet when it's running and this right here, I see it a lot in videos.
I kept thinking, look how small these vents are, but really. This whole area is the vent and then I couldn't tell the depth either, so when you look at this, it actually looks pretty good from a depth point of view and then some people said how they felt like the buttons. It felt cheap and cheesy and I actually really like the way these buttons feel so I really like the vehicle obviously so I guess that might be a bit of a biased opinion but when I was doing the reviews I was hoping to get some of the things that I think people were saying and then down here when I was looking at these buttons, there were a few things that worried me when I saw them in the reviews, but once again I found that I really liked it and I liked the design that some people were saying.
I think the way this feels cheap is that there is a little ridge on the back which never feels like it's cheap. I think it looks good and feels good and then some people say the buttons are in a bit of a strange position, but with all the hand gestures and things that I am and that you do with this vehicle, to me it almost feels as if they designed it too. You know you have this as a control here, but then when you're done, you just put your hand. like this and then push it, that's not a shifting type position, so it's an obvious push.
I think some people are making this awkward, try putting your hand here and pushing the piece, but I've found that it seems kind of intuitive. You'd just pinch it like that and then it's obvious that I'm partly because I pinched it there instead of just trying to wonder if I pressed the right button and I'm a park so I'm just going to go ahead and start. in one of the reviews it says there is no start on/off, obviously it's there, if you put it in sport mode it turns off automatically, but of course I always press that now, one of the things I noticed in the videos It's when you push it, it pushes this whole panel down, that's a little cheap, you know, you push this thing and you can see how everything falls if you push it a little bit.
I mean, how does he know, but find out which one. button that you are pressing and then I agree with one of the reviews where I talked about having less, having a big piece leaves less lines for dirt and grime to get in so I really liked it and I found that I liked how these buttons were pressed. and how they feel they responded very well. I know I Drive, this one has the I Drive 7, of course, because it's the 2019 330 IX Drive, but it has a highly rated infotainment system that again I've been reviewing for over a year in multiples. different brands in entertainment systems and I found that this one was highly rated and plus my wife had a high handling 6 in her vehicle I knew it would be something I would like so coming here to the instrument cluster I really like it I saw this group of instruments in videos.
I just didn't know if I did it. I don't know if I like the dots on the edge. If the tachometer rotates outside. I'm seeing it in person again. It's much better. Instead of looking at it in the Review Center, where the map is, where you can choose the map right here, which really the only other option you can have, I guess, is the turn-by-turn direction, so I thought I'd keep the map . I don't need this step by step that policeman appears in so many other areas and of course this one has the head up display which is one of the features of your love now this one has the adaptive cruise control and these.
Those are the features I let it have here, so I love the adaptive cruise control I've had. This will be my third vehicle with adaptive cruise control and I love how this first one has the up and down movement. so you can move it up and down, the last one I had on a 20 18 Honda Accord, it only had one button so you had to go all the way down to space it out and then when you turned it again it came back up and then cycle cycle cycles, so if you want to move one bar away from the vehicle in front of you, if you're familiar with adaptive cruise control, you had to press it three times to get to the right one, in this one it goes up or down which you love , never use this limiter button.
I used it on the test drive not knowing what it was and couldn't understand why I had to hit it on the ground to get the vehicle to move but this will limit your speed if you put it on a certain thing so it has of course the assistance to drive, you know, keep it in two lanes and all that, and there's a little light there that you don't really notice if you don't have the vehicle. Without it I really love that this works well, this is the same address as my wife's x3 was and I love how it looks.
I love the depth. I love that it has a heated steering and I love the way it feels. It's a little thinner. the top that doesn't really bother me, I really like it, so the instrument cluster overall I love it, I love the steering wheel and of course the paddle shifters which I don't really use, I've tried it but I thought the car is smarter than I am and we will continue wherever it wants. You know, one of the features that I thought might be a little cheesy or gimmicky was the volume control or the gesture control.
Excuse me. I thought, why would I use gesture controls when I can? turn the steering up and down here or on the steering wheel and what I found or the other thing is to skip a song using the thumb to the right function and I thought why would I use that if I can only press the buttons but What I found out is that as I kept pressing these buttons to jump, I found that I actually pressed this button quite a bit. I suddenly learned how much I love just tapping my thumb like that and then turning the steering wheel, yeah, or this ball, you can use the volume knob but or the volume here for a little more precise, but if I want to turn up the volume quickly or not worrying about touching the knob, I just do this with my finger and get it going, so I found that I actually really like the gesture control again.
I thought why would I want to have that feature on my car. A couple more things I wanted to point out is that I love how this black moves towards the instrument cluster. I do not know if you. I can see that there, but it rolls forward from a cluster, it actually matches this side, that kind of rolls towards the instrument cluster, so sitting here in the driver's seat feels like a good cockpit with good balance. in terms. Do you know how everything works together? It looks great, so I was trying to talk about the speakers and the ambient lighting so you can see where the ambient lighting is going.
It's purple. All this is here. It's purple. There is a speaker. here's a tweeter there and then there's a subwoofer under each of the seats and then I have three in the front, one two three on each side, so that's six, then two in the back, seven eight and then that's what they told me. and I can't see it, but they told me that up there, in this area, here, it would be nine and ten. I don't know if I believe that or not, but that's where the nine out of ten are, so I'm someone who really likes having a good stereo system.
I was really worried about not having the vehicle with the Harman Kardon system, but this vehicle sounds amazing in terms of sound and I may even be a person who needs to have good sounds, so I was very impressed with this basic stereo, so I am sure That Harman Kardon sounds better than that, that would even be great, but for me and someone who loves to listen to music, I am again impressed with the overall sound and bass. with it and from time to time, nothing too big to point out here, it just has the basic basic options, you know, the lights, it has the purple ambient lighting, which is what I have set to purple right now, it has a sunroof Quite big, it's not. a full size, you know, that covers the entire ceiling, but it's bigger than normal and that's enough for me.
Now this head, this vehicle has contrast stitching on the Vern Aska leather, which I like, it looks good, it feels good now. He said we took him on a trip to southern Utah. I live in Washington so it was a good 10-14 hour drive so I never had the uncomfortable feeling sitting in these seats as I never had that feeling before. my back feels sweaty, it just felt good, as you know, I loved the way it feels, so one thing I did want to do is sit in the back seat, so I'm five nine and I sit pretty far from the wheel.
I want to show you what she looks like from the point of view where I'm sitting, so my daughter is taller than me and therefore there is still room. I mean, I'm sitting here, I don't feel cramped. you just know that the seat is right in front of youme, so I won't be able to stretch my legs. I'm the only person back here. I guess I could stretch my legs, but she said she sat back here and I didn't get sick at all during that whole trip, when in the past she did with other vehicles, but in the back I only see two speakers on each side, so I see, of course, the ambient lighting, which is super impressive, then the speaker here and a nice sized cup holder.
The same thing on this side is the speaker right there and of course the ambient lighting and then of course a good sized cup holder. The nice thing about this one is that it has its own control on the back. she can control, you know the person, the vacuum control, there, you know what she wants, the temperature has the USBso I had to do it and I have an iPhone so I bought a USB connector so she could have, you know, basically a charger when it's in the back. She now also has a USB connector in the center console.
She will have a normal USB on. Up here, another thing I wanted to show is that I personally like this wood color here. I really don't like the aluminum in the sporty finish. Another reason I want the sport line and thought because I've owned a few vehicles. Where do I have this area and I've seen reviews and I'm wondering. I thought this seems cheap for a luxury vehicle, but I found that I actually like the way it feels and I think it works very well. I put my glasses on properly. This is where, if you had that wireless charger, it would be I don't have it, but it does have the NFC reader, so if you have a digital key, it can read the digital key.
If you did, I assume you have an Android. phone or the card that comes with the vehicle, but they work well, the cup holders work well here is the normal USB, so I found that I quite like it now at night. I really love ambient lighting, it's one of the coolest things. The things people were talking about with this is that it feels cheap and hard plastic. Well, there's a soft touch here. I'm not sure exactly why everyone likes that so much, but it's a little harder up here, it's soft up here for me. it feels luxurious and has hard plastic and I feel like it's a Series 3 that's what you get but to me it's never felt cheap at all it sounded solid and I never sat on this over man I feel like a cheapskate the whole time I was sitting in this thing.
I didn't feel anything but luxury, not even talking about the driving experience, so we'll get into that, okay, I wanted to give you an example. Test drive and show you the difference between sport and comfort. One thing I heard a lot in the videos I was reviewing was about this sport mode, how it pumps the engine sound through the speakers a little bit and I looked at the reviews, I think it goes up about seven decibels because of that engine noise and at first I thought that sounded I was reading reviews that said it sounds youthful and that kind of sound sounds sophisticated or cheesy, but now I found out that I actually put it in sport. mode partly for the reason that I can hear the engine noise so it actually sounds a lot better than I thought it would be based on all the reviews so I have it in sport mode right now and you'll go ahead and take it. to go for a spin so you can hear the ninja noise and I like the sound of it but this brand handles very well on the highway when I was driving I guess through Utah I would easily go through ninety to a hundred without even knowing it and Just be waiting to give it so that it handles very well in the corners, the body roll does not seem to be much at all, so in the reviews they always talked about having this ultimate driving machine and the 3-series is the flagship and they want it back and I feel like you know, I don't know what the other ones were like so I can't really compare, but I love how I'm surprised by what I get like when I turn the corner. and I'm not worried at all about leaning or being pushed to the side, it's great, so the other thing is going back to comfort mode, so normally.
Oh, in sport mode, one thing I've noticed is that when you take your foot off the ground. gas right away it's almost like it's on or off there's no soft thing let your foot lift off the accelerator it'll slide a little bit it's like on or off so it's definitely in kind of a sporty position so you can set that in the It's an individual thing and I've done it a little bit and messed with it a little bit, but when you go into comfort mode you still get quick acceleration if you put your foot in, but it's much smoother when I take my foot off.
Gas and it seems to be so definitely when I ride with someone in the car. I like to put it on and leave it on comfort mode because it's not as choppy, but I love having it on smart mode or sound and by the way. that it feels and that's why most of the time I drive it intelligently. I wanted to show what it looks like here with the carpet at night so you can see the light shining here on the door, that's pretty impressive and then I also want to show what the lights look like here, a little bit harsh, kind of bright, very difficult get an exact photo of that but the carpet on both sides looks great ok just wanted to show what the instrument cluster looks like at night.
It doesn't look too bright so it's so bright that you can't really see when you look out and of course there's the heads up display and then I wanted to show the ambient lighting so now it's set to purple but you can change it to several different colors, so blue. I'm just showing a couple here, green, and of course, that's displayed on both doors and it's actually also displayed on the back seat and then there's the ambient lighting up here and then there's the ambient lighting. on the back, but it's a very cool feature. For some reason I've kept it purple, but I like it, so I wanted to show here what the head-up display looks like, so I wanted to show what it shows. the head up display also shows directions as well as cruise control along with a lane keep assist and four hour speed limit so there's quite a bit of information there and I change the settings to be lower because It was a little up. and I'm not talking about setting it lower, higher, but there's also a reduced height setting where I moved all the things down instead of having them all spaced at the top, but I turned off the voice setting to Otherwise , it would be telling me where to make these turns, but it's cool that it shows me the map right there on the screen, in the HUD.
I hope this video fills in the gaps a little. I know. I was longing for a review of my own that had some, you know what it was like, we actually own the vehicle and spent some time with it and what I really feel about it, so I hope this fills some of the gap for that anyway, if you have any suggestions or idea just let me know
