I mean, overall, I think this design is certainly conservative, it's attractive, it'll probably age well, but it just doesn't have that wow factor pizzazz, one thing that's really annoying about this. You can choose between brown, silver, white, gray or black, and that's a really big negative for this car because you can literally buy a Mercedes S-Class and you can paint it any color. If you want to pay an extra fee, the interior is also offered only in two colors, black or beige, and that is also another problem with many buyers in the segment, so hopefully Genesis will realize that they will rectify it and start to offer this car.
More you know color combinations and offers as a kind of sports package, but enough about the exterior, let's take a look at the interior and see how it compares to the exterior. Now I expected the Genesis 290 to come standard with the company's smart system. with start button here is the new keychain that I showed you on the g8 II a couple of months ago it is a nice keychain it feels good in your hands to close the door you have to press the button here it closes the door the mirror also folds electrically if you have it set that way to unlock it.
I like the fact that there is a sensor on the back of the door handle that opens the door. Another thing this car has is the softly closed doors. Expect every segment to just click on it and you can see the door closes automatically, but when you open the door, look at the cabin and you can see I'm pretty impressed with this interior, it's literally the nicest cabin out there. I've ever seen parent company Hyundai do it, literally, it bears very little resemblance to any Hyundai product in the past. Genesis Wooden developed a lot of their own switches, there is a bit of corporate involvement, but it's in strategic places so I'm not really going to notice it.
The seats are extremely comfortable. They are adjustable in 22 directions on the driver's side. They are really only missing a massage function. They are heated and cooled, but they keep you in place very well. Even the headrests work well. They go up and down fore and aft, the lumbars are four-way electrically adjustable, so in terms of that luxurious feeling when you look inside, the Genesis G9 definitely delivers that when you first look at it, now, when you get in , you can see it. I know it has a really nice and easy step height. This is a luxury sedan.
The ceiling is not too low, so you don't have to bow your head. When showing the door, it sounds nice and solid when closed, so you really expect that. a vehicle, when you're going to spend so much money now to start the vehicle, all you have to do is keep the key inside the vehicle and then press the brake with your foot, press this button here to start it. What we're hearing is the all-new 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6. This is a totally new engine design. Genesis or Hyundai have really spent a lot of money developing this new six-cylinder engine and you're going to start seeing this engine and the smaller ones.

I love the fact that there are traditional knobs here, there are four knobs for, you know, adjusting the volume, climate control, and of course what you're also seeing here are the huge twelve. Three-inch dot screen, this literally, you know, makes the interior of the Genesis very different from any Hyundai product. You can see you go to the home screen, it has all your different sources there and it just reminds you that you're in a luxury sedan. Looking at the door panel, here the leather extends to the top. There is more than wood and aluminum here. The door handle though on the other hand feels like plastic so I'm surprised they didn't use aluminum on the door handle as you can see. here there are also three-position memory seats for three people the window switches have a nice premium tactile feel they are OneTouch for all four they also slow down before closing so they don't get bumped there is a lot of extra leather stitching right here on the armrest down here is all soft, it's also a soft touch and there's some felt behind in this part here, so you won't want to touch a cheap plastic, you're going to put something in the door pockets that The steering wheel also has a lot of leather gentle.
It has a nice strength book design so you can rest your hand here while driving. There's even leather on the old one. This part of the actual airbag cover. The leather is very soft. The seams feel good. The pallet. The shifters, on the other hand, feel a little sticky, so I see a bit of crosscutting there. First of all, a couple of things when you put the vehicle in reverse, you have a very good 360 degree camera system and you know it shows your trajectory and distance markers. This vehicle has front and rear parking sensors. The mirrors will also fold when you put it in reverse and the rear window sunshade also goes up and down when you put it in reverse.
I mean, it's a really good rearview camera system. One thing this vehicle does not have is any automatic parallel parking features, which surprises me. because a lot of their competitors offer that, but you can go here and change the views if you need to see a certain area of ​​the car, so that's really cool if you also put Drive, you can see here a little bit, you know? corner view if they're trying to get in and out of a spot or they're trying to parallel park without braking their wheels, I mean in terms of the technology that the Genesis g80 offers, there's a couple of features missing here but I'm literally being nitpicky , this is a much less expensive vehicle.
Now let's get to know the network. The map function here. I want to show you the navigation system. It now has the graphics of a standard Hyundai product, but I can see it here. On this large twelve point three inch monitor it looks great, it has 3D views. It would be nice to see Genesis develop something a little more high-tech, a little more. Wow, but this big screen certainly helps create this interior. looks much more upscale compared to the smaller JD, now back to the radio sources. One thing you're not going to see is that this is not a touch screen, so don't sit here, try to get. you know it has fingerprint marks on it, you have to use this controller right here, which is very similar to BMW and Audi, surprisingly this is not a handwriting pad, it just works like you know you kick it, you scroll it, you can move in different directions and it works. pretty good, so I'm happy to say that I really like the interface on this car.
Works. You taste very good. It's easy to use, much better than what I've used on many of the current Lexus products. So keep it simple. Use one knob to control everything so you don't have to take your eyes off the wheel too much.I really like the fact that you know you can put your navigation system on this side, your radio sources there and then your presets. Go back to the home screen here you can see there's your phone settings here there's settings there's a link boost blu it's two telematics systems from Hyundai, you know, search with Google Google, one thing that's missing from the system is Android auto and carplay.
I really don't. I don't understand why Genesis decided not to offer it, they do the same thing on the g8 as they do on the g8 II with the larger 9.2 inch screen, it doesn't have Android auto or carplay. Hopefully Genesis decides to rectify that until then, it's a really big battle mission. but honestly, I want to say that many vehicles in this segment don't offer that feature either. Now, going down here, you're looking at the shift lever that controls the 8-speed automatic transmission. This is a Genesis design transmission, you know? classCompetitive for Gears, although now that Lexus is launching a ten-speed and Mercedes is putting in a nine-speed, it's starting to look like a lower gear compared to some competitors, but it gets the job done.
I really like this. new shifter, you know, you push forward and press this button here to go into reverse, you go back and you go into drive. You access parking by pressing this button here, you know it works pretty well, it's pretty intuitive. I don't have any problem with him. There's a nice little storage compartment here for your phone that has a wireless charger if you have a compatible phone, your USB there's a thing, although with the iPhone 7 what I have here if you put your phone in there, it's not really like that. It closes so you have to leave it open, but keep in mind that larger phones will fit, you just can't close the lid, keep that in mind if you want to be able to do that.
I'm looking down here. You can see that there are a few more cupholders that would cut into the functions of the heated and cooled seats. There are three levels. It has a two-level heated address. This controls the electric rear sunshade and then everything else is accessed via the back of the menu buttons. on the center console lid is nice and padded with some leather stitching. You can access it by pressing this. There is decent storage space. There are two 12 volts. You can see that it is lined with felt, so it is very well finished. Look here.
You can see there is the glove box. It is lined with felt, it is also quite large and in size. Now I want to briefly talk about the Lexicon audio system, it has 17 speakers, like 900 watts, it sounds great, it's really competitive in its class with a lot of its competitors, but it's also a lot less expensive, guys. If you want to upgrade the audio and like an Audi or a Mercedes, you have to spend like six thousand dollars or more on Burmaster Bang and Olsen, but in general you know I really like the finishes that Genesis uses and that are used on the interior.
It has a really nice Alcantara suede. All models include a full-size moonroof, but there is no large-panel roof. I just wish there was a pale roof and massaging seats and maybe an automatic parallel parking feature, but overall I'm pretty impressed with this interior. I think it's a Many of you know that you don't spend much time in the Mercedes or BMW; They will enter this interior and be surprised; those of you who do have those types of vehicles are going to look at. this and see a little bit of cost reduction but honestly not much considering the price you are saving when you decide to use this vehicle now the back seat is extremely important in this class of vehicle and the g90 definitely is not.
Disappointing, you can see this is the full size car and that's where I have to look at it to drive, check the legroom, check the controls there on the center console and you can tell this thing seats five people, there's a big center, you know, hump there. for the driveshaft, but the rear seat is certainly executive level, which you expect in this segment. Now that you walk in, you can see here that space is abundant. It's crazy. I love the back seat of this car and then when you close the door, too. it has a soft close feature but it sounds nice and solid as do the front seats which are now sitting back here you can see look at this row of legs this is just ridiculous there's also a nice little LED there there's a Very nice LED lighting in this cabin, kind of Expect that now, looking back here, the headroom is reduced a little bit because of the sunroof, although Genesis gives it a little bit of an extended look.
There's a lot of LED lighting here throughout the cabin, although the Equus I remember had like a little fold down mirror here, so again Genesis removed that feature, the Equus also had reclining rear seats, now they can bring that feature back along with the cool feature, If you go with the VA, the v6 model is a bit flaky, right? I don't understand that feature, one thing I really like is the fact that you can control the umbrellas here, they are powerful, you can also control them on the other side to give you that extra level of control, it's very cool.
You know Genesis included that you can also adjust the driver and passenger seat here and move it forward if you guys are sitting here, it's actually the seat you want to be in because you can move the seat forward if you go for the v8 that it offers . you like the 14 way adjustability without massage function of course the front seats don't offer it but you do get heated rear seats, VA miles gives you great seats, you have your own separate climate controls back here, There are three zones and you can even control, you know? the dream of the infotainment system from back here with its knob looks the same as the front so it's definitely cool to have, you can even turn off the screen if you want in case it starts to bother you from all the light looking this way. two more power outlets, there are vents in the back seats and then if you need cup holders, two doors basically come out right there and, you know, they give you a good amount of storage space, speaking of stories, there's also a nice little compartment storage here with another outlet, so there are actually three outlets back here, but I'm surprised there's only one USB.
Honestly, I think Genesis should have given you at least two USBs and two power outlets. The rear seats do not fold but there is a step to reach the trunk most vehicles in this segment do not fold the seats themselves extremely soft and comfortable leather nice for support. I mean, honestly, this is the kind of car where you just want to hire a driver and let them drive you around because it's a really nice car. For traveling now, our electric trunk is included in this segment, most will have it and the G18 G90 does not disappoint.
You can see it here by looking at the trunk capacity, they actually reduced it compared to the old Equus this year by a cubic foot. Honestly, you're not going to notice that it's still fifteen point seven cubic feet, like I said before, the seats don't fold down, but if you look underneath, there's a spare tire under that floor, so at least they give you a temporary spare. than dealing with a five-kid repairman like some competitors now under this enormously long hood you will find a completely new engine for the Genesis g90 this is the company's new 3.3-liter twin-turbo gasoline engine with direct injection V6 now definitely has an interesting amount of displacement at 3.3 liters, but it makes good power: 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque.
This vehicle now comes standard with rear-wheel drive. My particular model has all-wheel drive and has its all-HR. You won't really notice it and really the only thing you'll miss is the eight-cylinder sound, but you know that Genesis offers that V8 if you want to go with a V8 that has more horsepower than this. v6 but similar torque numbers now, when you put the vehicle into its individual driving mode, you know, I've set it up to suit what I like and I just drive this vehicle normally, it constantly reminds you that you've made it, you're on a luxury sedan, the ride is impeccably composed and this car, this car doesn't have adaptive air suspension, that's like adaptive suspension, but it's conventional steel springs and it just absorbs the bumps very well and get this. it's so quiet the wind noise is quiet the engine is very quiet there's very little road noise and you know when you start revving it you know some of these back roads the g 90 holds its own but you know it's not a sports car and like Lo I said before, but it's okay because it's not its mission, it's designed to be a luxury sedan and it's incredibly refreshing how you know Genesis decided to go that route, it's just a really nice car to drive overall and the visibility here.
It's good even though it's a big car, you have to get used to its size, the mirrors are big, you know, there's a good view from the back, there's a nice long hood, but you can get used to it easily, but of course. Of course, Genesis includes all the drivers, it's Inspectah that you expect in this car, especially at this price, it's all standard equipment compared to many of its competitors, they make you pay more for a technology or driver assistance package and something What you associate with a vehicle in this class is like effortless acceleration and the G 90 certainly delivers that, once you get over the initial engine lag that you know when you first step on the accelerator, it just gives you that nice solid burst. of power and I think the 0 to 60 time, there's a lot of test data, it will be around the five and a half second range, the v8 will be a little bit smoother, quicker, closer to the five second range, so This is really a lot. power and all the power that you're really going to need and one thing that I want to push very quickly is the adaptive cruise, it has full stop and go capability.start, there is a voltage monitor that monitors if you are drowsy, it has pedestrian detection and since the vehicle also has active lane keeping assist, it has semi-autonomous capabilities, they work well, they work a little better than what I have tested in the products Bottom line Hyundai, so it's good to see that Genesis lets you know the level of technology, the sensors and all that to differentiate this car to make it feel more premium now, speaking of traveling on the road, you have amazing seats, You have a really quiet interior, you have great visibility, this car basically drives itself, it's a great road car. any vehicle in this class will be, but it's definitely good to see that Genesis has caught up.
This is better than anything Acura has right now in terms of a full-size sedan. Anything Infiniti has. Something Lincoln actually has, although I haven't driven the new one. Continental, which is a front wheel drive vehicle, can be just as expensive in this car, so it is another vehicle to consider if you are looking in this class for the Cadillac ct-6. I was also very impressed with the interior of this car. It feels more expensive, it feels more luxurious and its vehicle, the two vehicles are quite similar in price, the Caddy can actually get closer to 90 thousand dollars, so it is more expensive for me, this one has that value quotient that It is what is expected from a brand like Hyundai Genesis.
Parent company Hyundai now let's talk a little bit about fuel economy in case you're wondering, most people in the class don't really care about fuel economy but I've actually been averaging around 16 miles per gallon driving mainly in the city. On the highway I got it up to about 23 miles per gallon, so not bad. I think if Genesis added cylinder deactivation, they would add start/stop, they might improve the mpg a bit. More fortunately, this car only recommends premium, you don't have to put premium on it, you can actually put regular on it. I'd probably just put premium, honestly, especially if you can afford a car in this price range.
Now let's talk a little bit about the price because that's also an important factor that the old Equus actually started at around 61 thousand dollars if you compare the low Equus v8 with the G 90, its price has increased significantly. This car starts at 61 grand for a 3.3t turbo 6, so now you get a six cylinder instead of an 8, now that's, you know, a big price cut, but Genesis included even more features like a completely new platform, my particular tester because its all-wheel drive costs about two thousand five hundred dollars more with the v6. Either it's a premium 3.3t, everything comes standard or you go to the VA, it's a definitive trim or again everything comes standard, the v8 isn't as big a jump as the v6, it's only about $1600 extra for the VA, my custard is equipped with 3.3t by 71v all wheel drive stickers, great value, that's literally where many of their competitors start, the Lexus LS starts at 72,000, if you want something German, they started at at least 80 grand, if you want an S Class they start at 96k so again very expensive, a fully loaded ultimate v8 with all wheel drive will be around 73k, still a great value, lots of equipment, missing features I mentioned earlier on Me I really like to massage the seats, the sunroof panel, there is no automatic parallel parking.
There is no sport package feature and all that is not available. You know several different ways to customize this car, but if that's not a problem for you, if you're looking for good value in a luxury car, this is really the way to go, just keep that in mind. While it's not the sportiest, you'll have to deal with the fact that Genesis is still a new brand, but if that's not a problem for you, I highly recommend this vehicle; definitely worth a look if you're shopping for a big executive stand like this one.
