Meanwhile, Beth cowers in fear and can't help because she is too terrified. The mother tells Beth to run away from her, before running down the stairs and further risking her life fighting the big guy. Beth follows closely and watches as her mother struggles with the man. Pauline then manages to immobilize him and stabs him to death. The accomplice who is still alive runs towards the mother and ends up being stabbed in the jugular and dies. We then jump to the future, sixteen years later, where adult Beth wakes up from her nightmare. Her husband finds her and hugs her lovingly, and we learn that Beth is still haunted by her past encounter with serial killers.
It

turn

s out that adult Beth is a bestselling mystery author and it seems like she's living the perfect life. Her latest book, titled Incident in a Ghostland, is inspired by the unfortunate encounter she and her family had in the past. That night, Beth suddenly receives a call from Vera, who seems distraught. It's clear that her sister Vera has some kind of mental problem, probably caused by past trauma. Worried, Beth packs her bags and decides to re

turn

home, to the same house where the incident occurred in the past. She is happily welcomed by her mother, who it turns out is still alive and now spends her days caring for the mentally unstable Vera.
As Beth settles in that night, they begin to hear noises in the basement, which leads them to see Vera, who lives there. They then take Vera back to a makeshift, padded room, and Vera begins to squirm and scream, while Beth cries because she can't stand to see the state of her sister. After settling Vera down for the night, Beth and her mother return upstairs, and her mother tells how Vera is still deeply traumatized by her encounter with serial killers in the past and can't get over it. Later that night, a noise wakes Beth from her dream and she goes to check it out.
And then, suddenly... One of the house's creepy

dolls

is standing at the door. Beth approaches out of curiosity, but then... Luckily, it's all just a dream. Beth frowns at the lipstick writing on the mirror and runs downstairs to check on her sister Vera. Vera shows Beth her very irritated hands and starts rambling about how she needs Beth to be with her so she doesn't

have

to endure all the torture alone. Beth tries to comfort her, but out of nowhere, they start hearing the sound of the candy truck outside her. Beth then leaves the house and glimpses the candy truck driving away from the facility.
Later that night, Beth shares a sweet moment with her mother, who has had too much to drink during the night. Meanwhile, Vera talks alone downstairs and begs Beth not to leave her alone. After Beth tucks her drunk mother away from her, she suddenly finds Vera in doll makeup and handcuffed to the bed. As a result, she panics and tries to find her keys, but the door suddenly closes behind her. Beth then looks through the keyhole. She then tries to wake up her mother to ask for the key to the bedroom, but her mother tells her that the room does not

have

a key.
Confused, Beth runs upstairs and sees Vera squirm, as if she is fighting an invisible figure. Vera's fingers look broken and twisted. The mother, who is now awake, leaves the house to look for help, while Beth tries to tend to Vera. Beth then hears noises in the basement and assumes that Vera has locked herself in there. But then...she hears the accomplice's voice coming from the basement and runs into the big guy: Luckily, it's just her imagination. Beth spends the rest of the night waiting by the basement door, until she falls asleep from exhaustion. The dog's barking wakes her up and Beth hears the front door open, thinking it's her mother.
The next time Beth wakes up, it is evident that she is not feeling well. Her face and body are covered in bruises and the house seems cold and empty. Beth cries in frustration and finds Vera equally beaten and bruised in the basement. At this point, she begins to blame Vera for what happened to her, as Vera begs her to wake up. This is where the story gets interesting: Beth begins to see flashes of her past and we learn that her mother never survived that night; her accomplice killed her during her fight in the kitchen. As she accepts that her mother is dead, Beth begins to have a mental breakdown and Vera helps her calm down.
We then learn that the two are still teenagers, that they are now prisoners of the big man and his accomplice. Furthermore, every scene in which adult Beth is a famous author married to a loving husband was nothing more than a figment of teenage Beth's imagination to

escape

her terrible reality. All this time, all Vera has been doing is begging Beth to stop being distracted and come back to reality. The next morning, Vera warns Beth that the

psycho

paths are going to take her and no matter what happens, Beth must not move or say anything. Vera then kisses her before leaving.
Beth waits fearfully inside a closet and this happens: The accomplice grabs Beth and she struggles, forcing the

psycho

path to knock her out. When Beth wakes up, the accomplice is putting makeup on her to make her look like a doll. They then take Beth to the showroom and her accomplice poses her with the rest of her dolls. After the accomplice leaves, she finds a pair of scissors and sticks them in her hair. Shortly after, the big man arrives and groans when he sees all the dolls prepared for him. Then, creepily, he takes one of her dolls and plays with it.
When the doll makes a noise, the big man seems immediately upset and proceeds to burn it. This terrifies Beth, even more so when the big man picks her up next. Then the big man cradles her. He smells her and touches her inappropriately, to the point where Beth can't take it anymore and moves to stab him in the back of her. The big man begins to go crazy and cries in agony, while Beth takes this opportunity to

escape

the room. The fat man goes after her and, luckily, she manages to knock him down with a typewriter. Beth steals her keys, removes the handcuffs, and immediately opens the basement door before calling Vera.
They try to flee, but before reaching the front door, the accomplice returns. The psychopath is inches away from seeing them, but the man upstairs calls out to her. As soon as she leaves, they manage to leave the house through a half-open door. Full of adrenaline, the two rush into the forest and don't stop running until dawn comes. Luckily, they come across a police car and the officers immediately rush to their aid. Realizing that there are no other houses in the area, one of the police officers informs his colleagues that the

girls

must be runaways from the late Aunt Clarisse's farm and that the serial killer they are looking for must be there, while The other officer tries to calm Vera and Beth.
But then... The bullets come from the accomplice, who then shoots at the police. The officers are shot to death by the accomplice, while Beth and Vera are thrown into the candy truck and taken back to the house. It is at this moment that the desperate Beth begins to become distracted again and her vision begins to blur. Meanwhile, the accomplice forcibly takes Vera away, while she desperately begs Beth to come back to reality and help her. Once again we return to Beth's imaginary world, in which she is a successful, grown-up adult enjoying a party to celebrate the success of her latest novel.
She then sees her sister and goes upstairs, where we gradually begin to hear the sound of Vera screaming. Beth desperately

wants

to go help Vera, but her mother stops her and tells her to just forget about her sister. This doesn't stop Beth, as she realizes that she loves her sister and she is not willing to abandon her. She runs back to reality, where she is actually confronted by the large man who punches her and pins her to the ground. Luckily, the big guy is distracted by one of the dolls, giving Beth the opportunity to save Vera, who is being pinned down by the accomplice.
No longer caring about anything other than the safety of her sister, Beth tears off the accomplice's skin with her bare teeth and proceeds to beat him to the ground. The big man then runs into the room ready to attack and luckily a cop arrives to save the day. The accomplice gets up but his suspicious movement causes her to be shot as well. Now that the two psychopaths are dead, the nightmare is finally over. Medics take Beth and Vera to safety as more and more police officers rush to the scene. Before the movie ends, Beth looks at her sister and says that she loves her.
Vera then gets into an ambulance and we get to see the serial killers in a body bag. We don't know what will happen to the

girls

, but whatever future awaits them, let's hope it's a good one.
