in old white, did one coat and really distressed it to give it a very worn farmhouse look. This is my personal kitchen. table and I wanted a very

chalk

y finish on this apron so I didn't seal the chalk paint but I did seal the top because it's our kitchen table and we eat at it every day so I sealed it with general flat finishes from high performance. Very old video that can be seen because they no longer sell this in a green can.

It actually comes in a blue can, but this is one of the top coats that I used to use all the time and I only apply it with a foam brush like Nowadays, I don't normally use these foam brushes as much. I like to use a synthetic brush. I just have more practice with them and have tons of brushes, but if you're just starting out using a foam applicator like this, it's a great way to apply a top coat. This is our old house in Illinois, but we moved this table to Tennessee and it is still in our kitchen and has held up very well.

It has small scratches if you get really close and look. View it in the right light but just for everyday use it looks amazing and next is a desk that we also pulled off the side of the road, someone had left it for the dumpster after they moved into our neighborhood and our son needed a desk so we took it and I loved the modern finish here so I decided to do a smooth finish here and the way to get a smooth finish with a chalk type paint is to use a synthetic brush and add a little bit of water to the paint to help.

Smooth it out, every project I'm sharing with you today has a full video tutorial, so I'll link them all below if you want more details on one of the projects I'm showing you today and I'll put them up. also a playlist, I sealed this piece with wax, jewelry wax is one of my favorite waxes and I also love their wax brush, this desk is still in my son's room and has definitely come in handy on the days of e-learning that we have. Had to do in 2020. My next junk to

treasure

is this mismatched cabin a friend gave me.
They were getting ready to take it at will and offered it to me for free and you know I rarely turn down free furniture. Um and I thought this was a unique piece because they actually just placed it as a little side table and on top of a hutch, so it looks like a unique piece. This was the first time I used the chippy barn paint that is. a ceramic paint and it applies very smooth, this guy gave me a lot of trouble so he actually has two separate videos if you are interested in seeing this full makeover, this is one of my first projects where I used zebra brushes , I'm so big.
Now I'm a fan of them, they are great synthetic brushes to use when you're going for a soft look and they have lots of special brushes to get into the nooks and crannies of furniture. Zebra is also a big supporter of the furniture painting community and I have weekly contests and a podcast, the Before and After Podcast, where they feature furniture artists and give you an idea of how to start repainting yourself, so check them out. glance. This piece was quite worn so I distressed it a bit. This piece ended up working. for a girl with fairly short ceilings in her dining room, so this piece was perfect for her house.
My next

trash

to treasure is a good beginner chalk paint makeover. You may recognize this because this is my most popular video and project on YouTube. It's the video that made me a YouTuber and if you haven't seen this video, this nightstand was in my garage for I think almost a year and I almost threw it away about five times. I got it for free from a neighbor who had bought it. Off Craigslist and ended up repainting it and filming the whole thing. I did a java gel stain on top and painted the apron and Annie Sloane chalk paint and people loved this makeover so much that I even made a second video about it. using all dixie bell products so this is a great two tone finish for a beginner to tackle the old annie sloane chalk paint can design.
I loved the way it looked. Now it's a lot more colorful if you have a can of paint that has this old label on it it's probably time to throw it away and one other thing I want to mention I wouldn't use steel wool to do this to hold up between coats now I would just use sandpaper because the wool Steel can get stuck in a water-based finish. and it rusts, so don't do that. I will tell you that this did not rust, but it is better to be safe than sorry and again there is the overall green finish.
This now comes in a blue can if you're looking for it. This is another piece that I made in Illinois and sold for very, very cheap. I think less than forty dollars. Next is this farmhouse desk. It was a Facebook Marketplace purchase and I think we got it for less than forty dollars, maybe thirty dollars. It was really affordable and we wanted a desk so my daughter would also get this look on top. I actually followed someone else's tutorial and if I had to do this again I probably wouldn't do it exactly the same way I did it here in this video and this is one of the first ones.
Parts I started using on Dixie Bell Paint Company products and you know I'm a big fan of their products and I make a lot of videos with them so it's fun to look back and see one of my first Dixie Bell projects. sealing this top here with shellac because this is what the person in the tutorial she was following did. I would never use shellac to seal a piece. I use it to block stains, but here I would probably just use a water based top coat and this. It's a little trick, if you don't have white wax you can always mix white paint with your wax or you can use any color and tint your wax by mixing that in.
This piece is still in my daughter's room but I have already repainted it because the furniture They are not safe in my house after about two years. I get bored and usually redo them, so now they are pink and have gold handles. The next piece of junk I'll treasure is this provincial dresser that sat in my friend's garage for probably two years. years, I think, and she was in very bad shape, that's why I call him trash. This was actually passed down from her husband's family and this piece belongs to my friend Maggie who helps me when I am quite distraught and who you will see at my premieres if you are ever there, she has been a

huge

help to me this year and a great addition to my team.
I mixed a custom color for the frame of this piece using a vintage duck egg and cotton to soften the beauty. The blue green color is a bit unique in this project. I did a chalk paint wash and used it to create a faux stain on my drawers, so I used spray wax to steal this entire piece except the top because I wanted it to be durable. since it's going to be a dining room it's going to have things on it so I made the top out of alligator skin and I really don't love the shine of alligator skin and this year I learned a really cool tip that you can put a couple layers of skin on of alligator and then if you want to flatten the finish a little bit, you can use a clear coat and flatten the top of Maggie.
Place this piece in your dining room and it is a focal point when you walk into it. house and it turned out really beautiful and she really loves it and so do I, okay my next furniture change is so fun, this was a Craigslist piano I made for some clients this summer, they had gotten it for super super cheap on Craigslist and had never been brought to his house. It had been in an Airbnb because it didn't match the style of their house, so I was able to renovate it for them and give it a beautiful modern black finish.
I didn't do a smooth finish, I did a very textured finish because you see black pianos a lot, so I didn't want it to look like any other black piano out there. I wanted it to be matte and have some texture to it to create some interest. to the piece, these jolie detail artist brushes were helpful on this project to get into all these little detailed areas and a great tip that I love to share about working with black now is that I love black wax directly on black paint , I think it just gives a beautiful matte finish, sometimes when you work with a clear wax it can get a little streaky and this definitely breaks the rules because most people will tell you that you have to wipe off the wax before putting on a colored wax , but when you are waxing a completely black piece I love finishing it with black wax now this transformation is definitely one of my favorites this year and I love how it looks in my clients home my next junk to treasure is this cute little desk retro that my neighbor gave it to me after he moved, he didn't have enough space for everything and this was his childhood desk growing up and he gave it to me to renovate and it ended up being a small desk for my son who is in kindergarten infants and again.
It's 8 20 so I needed a space to work in his room in case we went to remote school. Luckily he only had to use it a couple of times, but this was a really fun project and he kept telling me for months, mommy, you're going. to do it for me and I was like no I'm going to make a video and sell it I want to make it pink but that's not what happened we ended up renovating it for him and I did a really modern look with some dixie bell products and he really liked it love your little desk.
I used a clear flat coat of dixie bell to seal this entire piece, you guys know if you've been on my channel before. I'm a big fan of the sealant. I love the flat finish. but another advantage is that you can use it on raw wood and you can use it on paint and the transition was perfect while I was covering this piece and another little trick that I showed you in this video when using a natural wood. It looks a little too yellow to me after applying a top coat. I like to take white wax to dull the finish and give it a whitewashed look.
This is actually my only award-winning piece. This zebra is a choice. the summer week after i posted it my next piece of junk furniture to treasure is this emissions nightstand it was painted white because i used it for the top layer battle i made with katie scott from salvage by k scott those videos are It's a lot of fun if you want to know which top coats can withstand damage and wear, so I had to sand off all the paint and the top coat I used for my experiment, but this piece turned out really nice once I got the paint off. and I decided to use it. a fusion mineral paint for the first time here because I had a lot of requests to try it and I love the hardware here so I ended up spray painting that gold and choosing a really beautiful fall green color to do a little fall makeover. this nightstand and I loved the top so much that I decided to leave it raw and used my favorite top layer that I already mentioned in this video, my Dixie Belted Sheer Flat Layer to seal the top of the piece.
I liked this bit. Boy, so much so that I moved it into my living room to enjoy it during the fall season and in fact, I love it at Christmas too and it has held up really well for my latest junk cabinet to treasure. I have saved a real Cinderella story. This piece was in such bad shape that the Salvation Army and Goodwill would not accept it and it ended up on my doorstep because you know I will always try to get free furniture and I had to remove a lot of veneer from this piece. a video about it and then it stayed in my garage forever because there was actually an extra layer of veneer that I ended up having to remove from the top, but once I did I found a beautiful board of wood underneath and I knew I wanted to make a rustic white wood finish on top.
I used Dixie Bells, no pain gel dye and white stripper. This is a great way to get a white washed wood effect. Once I put the dye on the top, I didn't think the body and the top had enough contrast between them, so I pulled out this beautiful sea glass color and decided to do a two-color effect on this piece and it was the best thing that happened to him. I sealed this piece with a natural wax thatIt's called Big Mom's Butter and this is my favorite orange scent, it smells like oranges, it's delicious and it's a natural sealer so if you don't like working with chemicals this is a great option for you, this has been my Most popular makeover and video I've ever done. all year round and I love the fact that this piece wouldn't even be accepted in a thrift store, it just shows you that you can keep almost anything, a real piece of junk to treasure, and I sold it to someone local in Nashville so I hope I'm still enjoying this cute little piece.
