May 30, 2021
Hello everyone, I'm Natasha from Treasure Books. In this video I'm going to share with you 10

free

things

to use in your

junk

journals

. We are talking about these categories. There are literally thousands of

free

things

you can use in your

junk

journals

. I have classified them into categories. I have listed tutorials for each category in the description box below and I guarantee you will be inspired and see things with a different set of eyes after watching this video, so let's get started. Well, let's start with something. a little less obvious napkins from a restaurant, they can be any color and thickness, it doesn't matter and I'll show you what I did with these, look how cool it looks, it looks like old leather and this is all a cereal box in the back and I glued some of these napkins on top very haphazardly so it had these little raised ridges and then I painted it black and added a little bit of gold and it looks really cool as a journal cover and you can see this.

I have one here to show you I have used the same technique but instead of using napkins I use tissue paper from the packaging so that also works and if you want to see the technique it is exactly the same one that I used in this one here in this journal and I have a tutorial step by step so you can take a look. I'll link it below and it's exactly the same way I created this, but instead of tissue paper I've used napkins on this one and So we can also use it for things like this, you know, book pages.

More Interesting Facts About,

10 free things to use in junk journals abundance of inspiration...

I have a very simple book page and I just taped on some of the napkin and covered it with some distressed ink to create this really antique look. page and I can stick this on a transparent paper on the back, it can be a place to journal, it can be little embellishments in a journal, I mean the possibilities are endless, these are just some of the examples I have to show you and I've really kept showing this because I really like it. I think it will look great like a real journal like a real journal cover.

Well, the next thing we have here is tea bags, use tea bags, so if you dye the paper with tea or if you drink tea, keep them, let them dry and then you just open this, get rid of the tea or put the tea away, the tea loose inside because you can also use it and then you are left with this and I have used them in many different ways. I'll show you some examples. I have tutorials on all of these, so I just layer them over some magazine images to make them look really vintage. You can see these here.

It's just a picture from a magazine and the tea bag that I placed on top to make it look very old and the same with the maps and atlas pages, they look really cool and vintage and they look amazing in magazines as pockets for example , look how cool it looks on a page, it's a little pocket that you can put things in. there you can embellish this even more, add something, it looks really cool. I'll link that tutorial below and all categories will have tutorials to go with them and it's all linked below in the description box.
The following I have, for example. the playing card so you can see this is what the playing card looks like before it's vintage and I also have a tutorial on these and they look really cool. I even made a little booklet with these but I have since sold that booklet in sort of a package but check it out if you like making a vintage looking journal and vintage looking embellishments this is perfect and another thing I have to show you It's this handmade paper. You may have seen this tutorial before, so here I have the tea bags. here and these little bits over there are like dried herbs or dried flowers or I've actually used loose tea from these bags over here because who has time to make handmade paper?
You know, using a blender and all that kind of stuff, when you can do it. a fake handmade paper or should I say a fake handmade paper here are some other examples of fake handmade paper and I packed it into this one using it for something and then as you know usually one thing leads to another and you make a full journal covers with your faux handmade paper, there are so many things you can use in creating your journal and even as a leftover thread, you can see here the threads that you can see on all my faux handmade papers.
I have these threads, I mean. I don't save every little bit, but you know when you're sewing and you have some loose thread, you can keep a little bit and use it on your handmade paper. Category number three is cereal bag liners, so I use those to protect my surface. I know when I paint something, but I also use it for things like this, for example, I have a tutorial on this. I'll link it below. I made these pockets. There are two pockets. I only used the page from the book. I uncoupled a napkin there and used a cereal bag. linings to create this clear pocket on both sides and here I did the same.
I didn't decoupage any napkins on the book page, I just put it on and sewed it around and created these pockets that you'll want to make sure if you use it for your journal, you want to make sure you wash the cereal bag liners really well because you don't want that no known food will stick there and even things like this, for example, I don't use many of these. I usually just recycle them into plastic bags, but here's just one example. I've cut out a little piece here and let's say it's a page from my journal and I created a little tab with a staple, very simple, but if you had one of those in a book that stick out like that, let's say it's a page from my journal and you know you have some of those random little bits sticking out.
I think it looks very nice, of course you can use cutouts. of anything, fabric, paper, whatever you have, but you know, I'm just trying to show that you can be creative, you don't need to have special things to be creative and you know you have to be honest once you start looking at everyday things . with different sets of eyes and you start to see the possibilities, you start creating creatively and then one thing leads to another and you have something beautiful like this, I love this, okay let's move on, okay, the next category are boxes, so this is a nice one the obvious ones that most of us are already saving, but bear with me, I'll give you some

inspiration

, so cereal boxes we're going with this one.
I have created many journals using this cereal box or not this particular one, but a cereal box. This diary is done. from a cereal box this journal is made from a cereal box this journal is made from a cereal box you don't have to go out and buy books that you can then modify and turn into journals you just start with what you have you can have huge journals with spines very wide like this this is a pretty big journal, pretty wide and it has five signatures in there or you can use little boxes to make mini journals.
I have a few of these and have made minis. daily before, so it's a lot of fun to see what you can get and what you can create. This is a little box of something I bought at ikea and I actually made a journal using that box because you know it's a ready made journal. cover and I just got rid of these pieces, cut them out, you can see and I created this cute little journal and this was made years and years ago before my YouTube days using a packing box here's another one, you know, the perfect size for a little journal that you can get your napkins at a restaurant, you can stick some glue on them, get really cheap two dollar paint, no big deal right, and make a journal that looks like old leather, put a little bookplate in here, Perfect, I mean, the possibilities are endless, okay? to the tissue boxes, okay, I keep these too.
I can make labels and all kinds of things. You may have seen this video. I'll link it below if you haven't. These are all things I've made with just tissue boxes. Full diaries with just a box of tissues. Small folding pages. You can watch that video and you'll see all these things I've made using tissue boxes. What else do we have? We have a little mini diary here. using a tissue box we have some labels and pockets and things like that we have another little folio here and we have another journal let's take a look inside just a mini junk journal you know what I made using a tissue box and put some things in there so it's fun look this.
I want to show you this one if you've seen the video you would have seen it, but it opens up and does all kinds of very interactive things, which I love. of little things and things and belly bands and pockets and all kinds of things and this actually comes out here. I love little surprises like this. Look, what else do we have? Here's another one made from a tissue box. Some labels. Some shaker labels of all kinds. There are so many things I love windows and tissue boxes that we can do with that and if you want to explore further the videos are linked below and I also made a tutorial on how to do this so I'll link it below like Well, and then we have things like perfume boxes, shoe boxes, little skin care boxes and little windows, pretty boxes like this, especially for children, children's boxes, like children's toys, they have little windows like this and all kinds of beautiful things, so things like this, you know. you can, potentially you can't make a journal out of this because it has all this, but you can use little snippets here, you can make labels, let's see what we can do with this, let's see that it looks like a keyhole, so I could potentially cover it. that with that napkin painted black had some gold and put a little key here it looks like a lock with a key in a diary, you know, let's play pretend like this and then we have a little key here or it can It can be the top of a tag or it can be a little tab on a page and embellished in some way, so what I'm trying to say is look at things and try to figure out what you can do with all kinds of things.
You'll come up with little ideas and then if this is a really pretty gold color, some boxes are absolutely beautiful, you can cut out shapes if you don't have punches, you know, you can cut them out by hand, little circles and things like that for example, these little pieces and pieces here I have hand cut these circles and you know I have them. This is before I had punches and I don't have punches that are this big of a size so you can see this irregular circle. Cut out of something and I have it all here and then I can do little things like, for example, let me show you this.
This diary was made many years ago. I didn't have any special supplies back then and I really love it because look at this, just a little bit of paint on the labels and then cut out circles. This is from. I clearly remember this is from a gift bag. Look how beautiful the shiny paper is. This flower drew by hand. It's not that you don't know anything to brag about, but. I draw it, I cut it out and it's there. They're all painting papers and things that I did with my kids, my kids' fingerprints, but I really wanted to show you the labels and the little thing that you can see here, the shapes, the little heart shape.
I cut it out by hand and it's all from, you know, boxes and cereal boxes and things like that that you can see here and I was playing with paint, just painting things, just marking, look at this, there's a little tab, these are all cut circles by hand of cereal. boxes I've tried to make with this altered label, this was when I started my journey and I thought I liked art journaling, but I'm so terrible at any kind of stuff, drawing and painting, that I gave it up, see circles here, ya You know. all kinds of things and this journal is also made from a cereal box and some rolled paper beads around here and this is all hand sewn.
I have a tutorial on hand sewing, so I wrote an art journal and then hand sewed, it's very easy if you don't do it. I do not know how to do it. I'll link the tutorial below. It is very easy but really effective. Here's another one. Creates. I hope all kinds of ideas come to you when you look at this. It looks like it belongs. in the recycling bin and most of the people who live in your house will agree with the fact that this is garbage, but for us this is not garbage and as soon as you start to see things in a different way and look something like this and you think how can I reuse this?
What can I do with this? the ideas you'll just know, you just start doing them and the ideas develop as you do them, you don't have to know the steps beforehand, you just go in there. and start, okay, let's move on to the packaging, bear with me, okay, there are so many things that I want to show you, let's start with these things, some of the clothes that we bought, this is from the school uniform, uh, bedding, that we bought a big duvet cover, you know. sets and donors and all that kind of stuff and they come in these bags and we can use them for storage and all kinds of things so I don't like to keep them so I can.
I've used this packaging and I have a video and I've made these beautiful ones, I can't even, they're not even coming out the way I want them to, so I made all kinds of different sizes of these little storage bags and they look really cool. Here are some fabric cards I have in this, you can make these and sell little bundles on etsy and it looks really cool, you are reusing, you are not sending things to thelandfill and the presentation is pretty good, here are some paper cuttings, let's say I'm selling. this journal and I think this bag may be a little small, but let's take a look here we go so the bag is definitely too small for this journal, but you know you get the idea and you send it to your recipient. and it's just a little extra touch, just an idea.
I'll link this tutorial below and for some reason I really love these bags and have been treasuring them since I made them, which was a couple of years ago, even this one is already done, stick some flowers on, maybe on top of that and you don't have to sew or anything, and it can be a little protective bag for a journal. If you're going to carry your journal with you you might want to protect it, put it in something like this, okay, let's move pretty quickly, so the next thing I have here is bubble wrap, okay, this isn't the prettiest thing you've ever seen. seen in your life, I admit, maybe we just hide that page and you can see here.
I used bubble wrap as a background. It is a good activity for children. You can make all kinds of little marks and now we're talking about. Making marks leads me to the next thing, so you see here, I have the sole of a shoe from my son when he was little and this makes very good cute marks on a piece of paper, that's why I don't use them. printables, you see, I mean, okay, this is not my best work, but you know what I mean, things like this little foam sponge that I can use to make backgrounds, what are they called? wine cork things, uh, little skin care caps and things like that to make circles I think you might know I used this one too to draw around and then I can cut a perfect circle this is from coffee this is from tape cello duct tape look at all kinds of things perfume bottle perfume bottle you I know that for making marks I don't use them as much anymore, but it's an idea, but I'm using this one.
I want to show you this one, so these are just from a cork like this one that I cut out and that's it. it serves as a stamp and leaves a very nice black background and you know when you look at it like that it doesn't look that amazing, but when used in a general project, let's say for example, these come to mind. I've done a little bit around here, you know, it adds that extra touch that you're looking for at the time, if you're using it in journaling, you know, you can add something, a little pocket on a page, a really simple light idea and then, when you use it it adds an extra touch to a project which you can see in this journal here I use this sponge to make marks on a page here is more bubble wrap here on this page these lines I used the corrugated one this is also something or another and I've used this corrugated side, added a little bit of paint or distressed ink and then went over it with a page and that's really cute and great to use to create straight lines in a journal for writing.
Here's another one. On the page where I use this sponge you can see the exact size and then for these lines, this is something else you can use. They come from gift bags and you know, you dip those things in paint and create some lines. You know this is it. more for general art, but can definitely be used in junk journals. This is cut out of a tissue box, so yeah, all kinds of stuff, let's move on to the next thing, which is flower cellophane. If you receive flowers, save the cellophane that I actually got. My local florist, you can go there, they always have cuts like this that they just throw in the trash and this is really, they have beautiful patterns and then you can use them to make things.
Here are some. examples i made this last night just to give you some ideas here are some this is like a shaker a marker here is a little pocket and i just use that cellophane that i made when you work with cellophane and sticky things the glue doesn't It doesn't usually work better and then also i made this one here we go this is from a wedding invitation and it actually said wedding invitation here so I covered it and did a little thing it's just what I made bound into some pages here for journaling and you can see there a little pocket made with cellophane and there we go, it's something different that we can use in our journals and then of course if you are buying that duvet cover set, I want to keep these boxes because they look perfect for a journal, you just need to cut them out and that's it , the cover is ready.
You know you decorate it, obviously, but that one is self-explanatory. This one here, once, are white baby tops. the baby wipes are out of stock, I'll just peel off this stick or remove it completely and I'll insert a photo here of what I've done with this and also link to the tutorial. I have a tutorial like a tutorial on how I created these little secret doors, so I had them in journals and you know, once you paint over them, you embellish them, you don't even have to paint over them, you can just embellish this, get rid of this glue. it's about using hot glue, hot glue works and you have a little secret compartment, you can have a little pencil in there, which is what I did, a little booklet and be creative and then of course if you're shopping for clothes that you know to your children. yourself, all these tags, there are some really cool ones that you can use for your journals.
I was planning on making a little video showing what you can do, but look at all this, there are so, so many different things, so many different ways. one has a nail here, how cool is this rum of love, cover this, put a little flower, put something that you already know and you have a label for your journal, I have also been saving this one because I wanted to make a tutorial, but it just hasn't happened. happened yet, but save them, tell your friends to keep them, but you don't know, don't become a hoarder, don't save everything like me, okay, our next category is junk mail envelopes and stamps, but let's start with spam. mail envelopes first, so most of us get these junk mail envelopes, our bills come in them and all kinds of stuff and it's a lot of fun to use them in making our crafts, so some of the things I've done with them are these journals I have a whole tutorial on how to make them and I made them using junk mail envelopes.
Look, you may have seen that tutorial. Check out this purple one and yes, I made these using junk mail envelopes. I also made these pocket items using junk. mailing envelopes and I also have a tutorial on this so there's a pocket here and then a pocket here and they can be embellished in so many different ways and we're just using and reusing them, they're all scraps of fabric and bits that I'm uh, ya you know, reuse, check this one out, how cool, so I already have tutorials on these two and I'm also working on a tutorial.
My next tutorial here is a preview and it all uses the spam envelope windows for projects that you might have to do with this area and naturally also in this category we can have stamps, so canceled stamps and old stamps if you have the lucky to find some old stamps at thrift stores, I found all of this at a thrift store or even something like this this is actually a catalog, a catalog of stamps that I found and I started cutting them up so they're not real stamps, but images of stamps and I use them as little embellishments or little focal points on a piece, so for example, let's see here's a little embellishment and then if I put one of these on top of it, it completes it, you know, and gives it a look finish, so it's always great to have them and then I also have all of these. canceled stamps someone gave me this I think my mom gave me this bag of stamps so ask your friends and family you'd be surprised how many things people have that they don't want anymore okay moving on to the next category which is cards greeting birthday cards christmas cards birthday bags gift bags and all that good stuff so with greeting cards I'm going to show you what I did with my greeting card so we'll get back to this diary.
It's okay, you can see it better like this. So this whole diary, everything in it is greeting cards and they were all used written on greeting cards, so some were mine, some were given to me by my mom and you know, old greeting cards from 20 years ago, whatever. my mom didn't want to keep any more so what I did was I covered them and covered them with paint and I just made an art journal or a bar type journal, a junk journal, I wanted to say and you can see everything is painted and then I can go in and I can paste whatever you know.
I can turn this into a glue book and everything inside is made from greeting cards. Some of them have paper glued on top, so I just glued strips of paper on top. Wallpaper. Some stickers. and parts, you get the idea and it was really fun to think about how I'm going to embellish each page and how I'm going to cover the writing and I made little pockets and things look like you can see in this one that you might be able to see, I'm not sure, but on this one a little bit of writing appears you can't read it but only a little bit of the writing is visible and then what I did because I used paint a little bit of the pages were stuck together and I ran a candle over them so I had a little candle round that I passed over the pages.
You can also use beeswax. I don't know where my candle is and I just flipped through the pages. like this with my candle and that leaves that film and then your pages don't stick together, there's so much stuff in here, so many little things made out of greeting cards and I'm sure you have a box somewhere with greeting cards or You can make a journal like this one and not covering the writing, you know, seeing those marks made with those little round perfume bottle caps or skin care caps, this is a cool little mini notebook, so there we go, that's just one of the things you can do.
With those greeting cards, you can also cut out the part that has been written on, like here was a part that has been written on and then like on this one for example, this can just be your journal writing spot or you can make these are not written on, I just pulled them out to show you that you can make spaces to write in the journal, you can make your markers put some tape here, I'm sure you've already thought about it, but I'm just pointing out. that greeting cards have some of the most amazing images on the front, not particularly these, but there are plenty out there, so go to your box of gift cards, birthday cards, etc., and greeting cards, and Ask your friends and family too if they have anything. they want to separate and that's it, and then also, of course, gift bags.
Look, these are absolutely beautiful to cut into perforated shapes. Make small brochures with them. Watch this. This can be a complete diary. I can make a diary. of this cover only this cover uh only this bag reinforce it you know embellish it add a bookplate what a shame that you know that these things go to recycling or the landfill, so not even this I will hold on to every little bit that comes into my life because you don't want to overwhelm yourself with things but keep an eye out for things that are really beautiful that you can use in your journals so our next category is a very broad category that includes magazines, includes catalogs. it includes travel brochures and maps and all kinds of things, junk mail that comes to your inbox, you know, so there are some things that I've done that I'm going to show you, but I just want to show you this one.
This is a catalog. and take a look at this page, look how cool it is and of course I can use this in a magazine. I looked at this really nice, thick acetate in this catalog, so I will definitely use it. Let's take a look at the magazines. So this is a scrapbooking journal and I seem to find a lot of these at crafts, I mean thrift stores and they're really really cheap, they're packaged and they're really cheap so what I do with them I've shown on several occasions. before, but I do this not just with scrapbooking journals, but any journals like you, any pictures that I can find that I can use and then I cut them out and lay them out on Tea Dyke paper and sew around this.
It's actually a promotional brochure for a nursing home, but if you didn't know this was for a nursing home you wouldn't think it just by looking at this, it just says on the back, but I've already covered the back. and I've sewn it up it says "take some time for yourself" and it's a perfect place to write my journal, just like this one, this was also for a nursing home and then just things that I find interesting in magazines and there's so many things interesting in magazines look at this, wow there was a mistake and so, this is embroidery so you can always use original images that you find in magazines, but you can't copy the images, so you can't scan them and then reuse them, so it's It's okay to cut out a picture from a magazine, use it in your cell phone diary for journaling, it doesn't matter as long as you use the original picture, look at this one, this would have to go in a very big journal, so you can use all that kind of things.
The next thing I wanted to show you is that I have a tutorial on this that will be linked below, so basically I'm using parts of an image or images that don't havea lot of sense but no I didn't want to throw them away so this was a photo of a big pillow and I didn't really want it in my journal so I cut it up into small pieces and then made these these can be journaling labels for all my The intention was bookplates, so this is too busy with this journal, but just to show that that was my initial thought for these, you can stick them on a cover and then you don't have to worry about anything else for the cover that you already have.
I have an ornate cover, so even things like this you know you can find part of an image that's really pretty. What are you going to do with this? I can't do much with this, but you can know that this is what it looks like, without anything. From the ornament you can take a look at that tutorial and it will make sense, you know, even let's say no, really, but I wouldn't use this because I don't like these colors, but if I just cut out this square and then I can do something with it, that's everything and then you.
I have things like travel brochures and things like that. I've already hacked this one. It has cool maps you can use. I really love maps and especially if you make them old, use some napkins on top or use some tea. The bags on the top make them look really vintage, they look great and then look at this, this was from my local cinema and they were just advertising what's there and the back looks like something I can use in my journal. I also wanted to show you. this painting, if you watch my channel, you may have seen it before, so these are all flowers, paper flowers.
I have a tutorial. I'll link it below and these are all of them. I actually used a cookbook, so let me see if I can find a picture or you know, even without a picture, just the writing, but here we go, let's take a look at this one, I can't even tell what it was, it was a book cooking, so there were a lot of pictures of vegetables and things like that. And you can't tell by looking at the flower, I really love this one, so yes, you can use magazine pictures for this kind of thing.
You don't have to have any die cuts or any special things which I think you can see in This is some kind of leafy green vegetable here so you can see it there but I think this is my favorite so another thing we can do with the magazines It brings me back to this diary and you're here, I'm sure. You've seen them and I'm sure you've done some. These are paper beads. Rolled paper beads and they look much better in real life than here in the video, but I rolled some paper. Actually, this year it's scrapbooking paper.
It's a magazine page, I rolled it up and covered it with some glitter nail polish, look at that gorgeous glitter there and there we go and I've used them in many of my projects these beads there are a lot of tutorials on YouTube that don't I don't have one on particular because there are already many, but all you need are some magazine images, some very colorful ones like this one, for example, magazine images, and you need a little patience and it is a perfect activity to do in front of the TV. You sit there, roll some paper beads and then you have beauties like this to use in your journal.
Oh, and of course, another thing I forgot to mention are clippings and words you can use to express yourself when you're journaling. you're making journal pages, you can use full sentences, oh, this is from book pages. I have a video on how to cut out little sentences and make poems, not necessarily poems, just something that makes sense, but yeah, look at this, this is from a scrapbooking magazine. I think it's a creative project, so yes, the catalogs have some interesting sayings and words, like look at this catalog, which you can't even see, but this writing here is elevated, so I can cut it out and use it, let's see if there is anything else quickly.
Even these images, you know, once you start looking and seeing things that you can wear, you're going to be overwhelmed because you can really wear almost anything that you can really wear. I think this looks beautiful. I can trim it and redo it in some dyed tea. paper and make a journal card with this or make a label with this there, there's really no need for me to buy printables, that's why I don't and that's why I don't work with printables either because I find that this brand keeps me you know, creative. , you know, it helps me think, think outside the box, okay, the next category we have is old clothes and I'll show you some examples because it's pretty obvious, so I'll show you some examples to keep you creative.
I had to lift so many things for this video and now I'm going to have to put them all back right, so let's take a look at this, for example, this is an old leather jacket but it's not leather, it's a faux leather jacket and Over time, this is what started happening to her, so I couldn't donate her. I wouldn't have cut this if I could actually donate the jacket, but there are all these elements in the jacket that I can wear even if I can't. I use the whole pocket I can use this I can use it as an amulet and I can take them all off and wear them now this one too in the back the same thing happened with this jacket it also started to fall apart so I know I shouldn't buy this kind of stuff anymore, but I can use the pieces that are still in good condition and now I can put this in a journal.
I can turn it into some kind of closure and then look at this lining that you can use. This is also perfect. I already cut some of that out now look at this lining. This is from another jacket. I think it was the first one I showed you. Look at this as some old magazine images and I can definitely use this. let's see what else we have, even cutting out little pieces like this to use on tabs and on top of labels and all that. I probably have too much stuff here, I think I might have to do it.
I can't use all that. it can run out, so maybe I have to become a little more selective in this school, a little more selective in what I keep or just keep some part and not all, but I look at this and I think it's a great It's a shame that this go to the landfill when it can be used for something look at this cool zipper whatever they're called I can take it off and hang it on the side of my journal and then you can look for things like lace on your clothes this was on the bottom of one of my blouses, there was a white blouse and it was stained and nothing could remove the stain so I just took it off and I'll put it away and use the other part as rags and then you know, just cut up bits and pieces of fabric like this using your journals for different types of things.
I always take them off, they can also be like little amulets. These little shiny pieces came off of some leggings and I actually wore this just the other day, which is what I remember showing you and I used it on this little bookplate, let's see how I look in this one, all the repurposed stuff, mail envelopes garbage, these retarded things, you know, on the sides, that look like Brad is okay, move on and then you have things like this, my mom has a friend who is a seamstress and she gave my mom some of the scraps that has, so you can always go to your local seamstress and ask because they have all kinds of this stuff. that they end up throwing away because, what are they going to do with it?
This is a cover that has been altered and has these beautiful sequins and it's perfect, we can use it, so next time I have a tutorial on these. I'll link the tutorial below and these are pockets from jeans and pants that I've used in magazines. I actually made a journal using them too, but I don't have the journal anymore. I'll see if I can insert some photos, but basically I just cut the pockets out of the jeans and if you have kids or grandkids, they go through the clothes very quickly and ruin them, so the jeans may have holes in the knees, but you know, the part behind.
The pockets are in perfect condition, the buttons are in good condition, so I think there are many beautiful things that you can use, from children's clothing in particular, because you will find a section of the piece ruined and everything else is fine, so It's just a matter of looking and then this one is, you know, I've put some labels in there, here's another one that I was showing before, look, I just put it in there, look how cool it looks, it just adds an extra touch and also I did that in a pocket there and then this I'll show you as well so you can see this as well.
This came in that bag of seamstress scraps and then because I can't really use this, but I thought it looked like crumpled sari silk, so what I did was I cut out sections like this, look, and they actually look really nice as little ones. tag embellishments or, you know, I basically use them instead of silk, sorry, I mean, no I don't have long lengths to wrap the journal, but to use it on top of tags like here instead of this one, for example, it looks great and then, look at all this, I mean, I'm probably going a little overboard here, but look at all this look at all these wonderful pieces of clothing and all these wonderful cuts that otherwise would have ended up in the landfill a lace that was cut from a top look at this one so beautiful there are such beautiful materials out there and I'm sure you have clothes that you don't want anymore and you can't donate and if you don't have them you have friends you have family just tell them and I also wanted to show you this one so this is not. bedding, you can use bedding if you have old sheets and stuff like that, they were actually like wrapping little blankets and wrapping your baby in them, so that's what I used this for and then when I didn't need them anymore I just tore them up in strips. like this and I dyed them, I put them in a solution to dye them and then I just dried them and here they are, so they're not long strips, they're maybe strips of a meter or more or a little more and then I use them as closures when I use it when I'm making a really vintage looking journal because it looks very vintage, that's what I use it for and I also use it a lot in my tag embellishments and all kinds of things, you know, when I need a little bit of something.
I can make little ruffles out of this and all kinds of things, so it's right there next to me, so when I need it I can take off a little piece or however long I need and I'm gone, and I forgot to mention a lot too. The clothes come with something, you know, some kind of beads or like I showed you before, these jams that I took off of old tights and all that stuff, the sequins, still, all of that can be used well and our last category is old broken jewelry. jewelry belts bags wallets I don't have a wallet here, but I do have a video on how to journal with a wallet.
I'll link it below. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on old jewelry because it's pretty. Self explanatory, you have all these pieces to play with and turn into charms, hang spies, and make tassels. I have a video on how to make some tassels. I'll link it below, but you can find all kinds. of stuff, this one is broken and look at this one, you don't even have to do anything, just take it off the chain and put it on the spine, this is how I use it, let's say this is the spine of my book, I can't put it on at all because it's here, but like this, for example, and then it hangs at the top of the spine, which is actually exactly what I did in this journal that I showed you earlier and you can see this charm here. it's from a necklace and it's actually just a clip like that and I put it on that spine and it stays there and that's one of those really cool shank buttons oh now that we're here you can see I've used some kind of a chain that you can see is from a necklace and that's actually my closeup clasp for this journal.
You can't see it because of all the fluffy things, but there's my journal clasp just using a broken chain like this one this is a broken chain so you can get it this is from a bracelet this is a bracelet and I take it off these small chains to use in all kinds of different projects, this is also from some necklace, but many bags come with these. Also, these chains can be used to close a journal or hang from spines and things like that, things like this, you know, this can't be worn as a necklace, but it can be part of a tassel if that makes sense.
In this one too there are so many wonderful things that we can use and there are a lot of this costume jewelry out there and they even sell them by the bag, you know, in thrift stores, okay, the next thing you can also look at are some old bags or broken I don't have one to show you I'm ready to cut but I just wanted to point out a few things this bag is in good condition I wouldn't use it anymore but I'm leaving to give it to my daughter or donate it we'll see but if I had to cut this up I would remove all of them these sections of this flap, you know, this here, all this good stuff, all this hardware, I would remove it so that you I can see that this was actually taken from another bag and I can use it on the spine of a journal.
I can hang a tassel here. I wish I had one to show you, but I don't right now and then inside and then. all these things, even the belts, even the stitches, you know everything I can, I would even take the lining, I mean, I wouldn't go overboard because I already have a lot of things, but the point is you know it's there, it's available if you have some broken bags around you or bags that you no longer like or that are no longer pretty, this one here I bought second hand, it wasn't very, it was very, very cheap, what I wanted to do with this one is make I took out a diary but I haven't done it yet because for some reason I really like it.
ActuallyI would never use it. He would take it with me but he just sits there. I think it reminds me of something from my childhood and I feel bad. hack it, but how easy would it be to remove this here and this here and sew a signature and I have a journal with a closure and it's done. It will be very easy, but I don't dare to do it. and then we have things like belts, you know, it's an old belt or maybe this came out of a bag, who knows, and I can use this, if anything, I don't even have to use it, I can just use the hardware and make it somehow guy. of a journal closure the same with this here this I don't know, I could have that on the back of my journal to hide the binding I can glue it so I can weave a ribbon through these little holes here and all the holes are reinforced and this actually if I remember correctly and I'm doing this because I just remembered this actually came off some boots like the knee high boots they were completely ruined but this is the lace part and I thought I'd cut it off and I did and actually this too It's one of those boots, this was on top of the boots and that. it was on the side so I mean it looks pretty worn out but I kept it because of the hardware.
I want to keep this hardware and I want to use this look at all the things that are around you and you will see all the Possibilities and potentials. This was also a bag handle and I'm not entirely sure what I can do with this one because it's quite rigid, but my initial idea is to have an elastic that ties these two ends together and then it can be closed. in a journal like this, maybe if I have a gold elastic, this can be the front and then I can have something hanging here from the gold elastic.
It's nice to have something like this in case it's useful, and here's also a belt from a bag I've saved I probably can't use it all in a journal, but this I can sure use and you know, having things like this around you that's how creativity grows because you take an object like this, then you take a bag like this and the bag is ruined and you're thinking what am I going to do with this and what can I actually do with this. You could try to remove the whole pocket and have that, you know if it's a bigger journal, maybe have that on the front, there's a lot of things that you can use that I haven't included in this video, like you can literally go outside, let me, let me out, okay, so this could literally be my eleventh category.
Don't be too creative because I just ran out and picked up some things that you can use in a journal and you can put some wire around this and add things to it and have it on the cover of your journal like look at nature themed magazines look at the work of Jupiter Neary, okay, you know, I've seen these things used on spines and as part of the binding, as well as branches like this, so you know you're looking at nature. I'm getting

inspiration

there and I just grabbed this because I had a thought when I was out, I made all of these.
I'm going to link it below the video, all these beautiful ornaments using leaves and I didn't even make some of them. I pushed, but most. I didn't even wait for them to dry look you can make bookmarks and sell them at craft fairs look I just went out and picked out some things this one is a little strange and I think I could end my video on this note Curiosity should be kept alive once that you start to see things in a different way and experiment and ask yourself with everything that comes your way, how can I use this?
What can I do with this? It could lead you, who knows, where you know, to a good path. place, so I hope you found this video informative. I hope your creative juices are flowing and you have some new ideas and you've thought of ideas that I haven't even mentioned and that you haven't done before. Please let me know what you think. I know something I didn't mention that you've been using to journal and thank you so much for watching and I'll see you in my next video, bye.
