Yamaha XJ650 Cafe Racer Build Cinematic Timelapse by Jish

May 30, 2021
Why do we buy these old rusty bicycles? Why do we spend hours and hours tirelessly disassembling and reassembling them? It's the new directions that learning a new skill can take you by making pieces you never would have thought you could make the way you did. I don't even know that you could assure them that we all love riding bikes and thinking about the wonderful places you'll take them. It's about the journey and everything you learn along the way. I'm Jish and welcome to the video. This is my 1981 Yamaha that after some new filters. and fluids, the bike runs fine, so let's get into this and see what's underneath.

Oh, with these custom bikes come a lot of custom parts and we don't stop at those custom parts, from CNC bumpers to 3D printed metal exhaust tips. the bike will have it all, so that's the front end sorted, let's select a thick rear wheel to match the thick front wheel because oh wow, she's thick, now it's time for the favorite part of each Cafe Racer

build

er cut off the rear and welded on a new rim. Oh boy this looks good, many of these processes I have never tackled before, you have to start somewhere and try if you fail, don't be afraid to try again until you get it right.

These processes are tedious. They are hard work, but my goodness, once you do them right, they feel so good, do it, like this, like this, like this, it's time to do something different and crazy. You may have seen this process used in other

s, but I was inspired by automated manufacturing. These are the absolute domains of acrylic towel making and I give you my hats sir but this is my version and I will make it in a way that I feel it should be done and there is nothing right or wrong about these creations. I won't lie, it turned out a lot better than I expected, just look, with this wild towel like we had to do something with the front and for me, I wanted to do something different.

You don't see many twin brick lighthouse buildings out there. but yeah, love it or hate it, I just appreciate the work that goes into making this look so-so, with the frame welded and all unused brackets removed it's time to powder coat it. This has to be one of the most exciting parts of the build when you see your base color and you can rebuild it from the ground, oh boy, so that's the frame sorted, let's get the engine just as clean, but before we continue, I I would like to thank today's sponsor Skillshare if it weren't for them these developments wouldn't be happening.

Skillshare is an online learning community with thousands of inspiring courses for creative and curious people. They explore new skills. They deepen existing passions and lose themselves in creativity. I personally have been taking courses. To learn 3D printing and modeling, it's very easy to jump right in, and as most classes are less than 10 minutes per session, they're nice, easy chunks to learn, and they're always releasing new premium classes so you can stick around. Focus and follow where your creativity takes you and it costs less than ten dollars a month with an annual subscription. The first thousand of my subscribers who click the link in the description will get a free trial of premium membership so you can explore your creativity.
I would like to thank Skillshare again for sponsoring this video. Now let's go back to the foreign version. So how good does that engine look in that frame? Leave a comment below. Let me know what you think of this version at this time. In construction, it's all about the details, all the little pieces, nuts and bolts you put in, make a big difference. This build has taken me over two and a half years and yes, it's a long period of time either way, but when? You're chasing perfection and trying to make every little detail count. Time doesn't matter, yeah, uh, uh, and of course I couldn't have done this build by myself.
I want to thank everyone who helped with this build. The people who have been involved, this bike wouldn't look half as decent without you so thanks, I'll leave links below for everyone who helped, go check them out. They're doing some really cool stuff, so it's good. I see the bike looking like a bike again, months and months of hurried prep work, rebuilding it, it all comes together, now it's time to look at the electrical system. I opted for the m drive, or so I would like to call it the um drive. Just because it's so good, these things are so easy to wire and since I'm not a big fan of wiring it was so nice to install having the bike in so many pieces for so long, it's so nice to finally hear the bike working.
Again, of course, it needs a tune, it needs some attention, but my goodness, I can't wait to put this together. Don't you love it? When an idea comes to life, it's up to you to make it a reality, whatever the method of creation. If you can think of it, you can do it and I'm sure with you there are plenty of ideas out there, so once the seat base is finished we'll send it to the upholsterers and while it's there we can see the body work. the paint is mixed and ready to go, let's put some paint on and finally build that bike after two and a half years, countless hours and many moments of trial and error, but the bike is finally finished with every bike build we you see.
