World's First Under-Display Camera Smartphone is HERE

May 31, 2021
actually, uh, it's fast and I can't with this lighting, oh, I can see it. Today's episode is brought to you by constructed clothing. Constructed basic concepts. These are the t-shirts I wear all the time, I wear them every day, in fact. I have tons of her clothes. I love wearing basic things. This is high caliber. It has a little elasticity. You feel like you can move around and the best thing, because it's a little bit higher quality, you don't get the same kind of discoloration. I like to wear black shirts and if you buy the cheap ones they turn gray at a certain point, that doesn't happen with these.

I have about 20 in my drawer. I think you'll like them too, so definitely click the link. the description goes over the basics built and I think t

here

is an offer and t

here

is also a code but the details will be in the description. You can actually save them. I think there are more than 20 if you want to buy some of these shirts for yourself or for anything else. they have it on the site so thanks again for building the basics, today we have a very exciting

smartphone

and it's exciting for a very specific reason, this is the axon 20 5g from zte, this phone is not here, it is not in North America I mean, it's here in front of me but it's not in North America it's not in Western markets it's in China I think exclusively at this moment it's a little glimpse into the future this is the

world

's

first

smartphone

with a front

camera

under the screen now we've covered this a lot in the bathroom then in the show below.

More Interesting Facts About,

world s first under display camera smartphone is here...

I've been following as different companies have rushed to be the

first

to exhibit to demonstrate this technology in a commercially available product. This is the first one. It's in a box. You can, you can. bought this in China right now and the other interesting part is that this one is not that expensive. They are selling this product for between four and five hundred dollars for the higher spec version when you convert from Chinese currency to dollars. so it's really interesting to see developments like this in their infancy in the first commercial product and then also recognize that innovation doesn't necessarily have to happen at high prices every time and increasingly it seems to be happening in devices that are more range type medium from a pricing perspective so anyway axon 25g albert einstein in the box what if that doesn't help you I mean logic will get you from a to b imagination will take you everywhere can we check the facts ? that we can see that we have the variant with six gigs of ram 128 gigs of storage 5g is right in the name axon 25g without notch or punch-hole, now the way they do it is by doing some fancy things with the pixels in the top region above the front

camera

super glossy mirror look and finish this is your camera module a bunch of different camera units 64 megapixel uh optical stabilization the device actually feels quite premium I think this is a metal construction on the bottom we have a USB type-c speaker unit connector and that is also where you will install your SIM card.

I think there is expandable storage here too. They include a case, from the looks of it, a pretty standard clear case that has some sort of texture for some reason on the inside and then a VIP card, what am I VIP for? I don't know, okay, we have a power brick that appears to be a somewhat fast charging power brick. Shall we list the power? It is a 30 watt charger that comes directly from Willy Doo. so I don't know about you uh I believe it I believe it you can decide for yourself if it's worth believing I think it is I believe in believing in willy that's a thumbs up ladies and gentlemen also on the package usb type. c to write a connector for the 30 watt power brick and then what is this?

Oh, a small type c to mini jack adapter for connecting headphones, which is something important for a device in this price range. Well, let's go ahead and see. If this has any power, it catches our attention. I understand the features of a budget smartphone in 2020. I understand the spec sheet you're used to seeing with a smartphone of this price in 2020. I've seen it all. I'll say it right away. I am interested in this specific innovation. I'm interested in finally getting a real-life look at this type of camera, but almost not front-facing, so there are a couple of different security options: face unlock, I'm going to use that on the screen, uh, front-facing camera , you have a fingerprint that's also on the screen, it's actually an OLED screen and then of course the password, maybe make the face one, um, let me see the fingerprint and it's also in the expected location.
I've experienced the front camera's motorized face unlock being a little slow because the thing has to pop up and then unlock. I wonder if there is something that needs to happen here. It's actually fast and I can't with this lighting. Oh. I can see it fine, so that works for what we're at, so this is one of those tricks where you see that you have the darker wallpaper to lessen the appearance of any imperfections that you may detect on the part. of screen that goes above the front camera and we are definitely seeing generation one here in the form of this device now, by default, the theme of the phone is all very dark dark mode and somehow it does a good job. hide the region that the camera is in below the screen when you switch to light mode or I guess you could call standard mode and then you can start selecting the region that camera is in because the screen looks slightly different so I'm going to show you what I'm talking about right here so you can see the pixels, they look a little bit different and this is highlighted when you have a light background now if I go ahead and change it back to dark mode and it should be a little bit harder to lift it up , you start to almost see the camera itself, right, this is difficult, right, we are very early in technology here and you know me, I am always trying to encourage progress. development of these new features that will eventually progress to a point where this could be invisible.
They want it to be the first. That's what this device is all about. It's always like that in technology. If you want to be first, you must make certain commitments at the beginning. stages, what's strange about this to me is what the alternative is, even if I see a small slightly pixelated section, is it better or worse than seeing the cutout or seeing the hole punch. I'm an early adopter, I like having that new technology and even if it's not perfect, the alternative wasn't really perfect either, it's more or less distracting than having the actual piercer or having a teardrop style, it's certainly not as obvious, you have to look a little closer to catch it, but something else.
People may get upset thinking to themselves that it's not perfect yet, so I don't want it yet. I'll look for a recent episode of Lou later. I'll say something interesting because I should have wondered where the earpiece was, but it's one of These headphones show that you can hold them close to your head, but as far as the video audio goes, it comes out of a single downward-facing speaker module that you can cover up. accidentally, you know what I'm saying, a little bit of audio. from the top here even when you cover even when you cover the speaker module, but it's not much, yeah, by the way, the screen is FHD plus and that's not a huge amount of pixels for a screen at this scale, this is a large screen. 6.92 is almost a 7 inch screen at 1080p, so can you lift it?
It depends on the correct angle. Yeah, I can't see it, I can't see it even in white in this range. I'm going to go ahead and say it's less. It's distracting than having the hole punch certainly when it comes to the video part, the frame of the video without having a hole punch is a little more immersive even though your eyes can take in, I can definitely with my eyes see that section where the tissue of pixels just looks different Jack, you should see it there, well we'll try to take some photos and overlay them here so you guys have a real impression, but the key factor here is the clearer the image you're looking at. the more you'll be able to see the region that the front camera covers, but I think it's something that you would get used to very quickly and I think as far as futuristic technology goes, this is really promising.
It means that the implications of this technology are quite huge having high resolution cameras hidden under screens, so you can imagine all the places and all the potential applications for that, even beyond smartphones, because I want to see what happens when I turn it around to the front. You see that little animation that took place up there let me do that one more time see what the quality will be like up there let me turn off the beauty, it has a kind of soft look, almost like a dream. like some kind of fog, I don't know if those are the characteristics of AI, yeah, so I can't seem to completely turn off the beauty and it's doing something like that to me, that was my concern because it's looking through a set of pixels.
Is that going to affect the image? I'd say it's a little bit right now just from looking at this selfie, but if it's the processing that's making it look a little murky then maybe you should try some front-facing video. Okay, this is the front video, this is the quality of the front video here and the audio too, does it still have a kind of dreamy glow to it? I think it actually looks good, maybe it just does. move a little bit here and walk into a darker environment, there's less light here from there and then I'll come back, I mean it works, it's a little wild that this is being recorded through an actual screen right now. the camera looks through a screen and then looks at me, it's not the best I've ever seen, but it's passable, it's kind of surprising, it's actually hard for me, you know, I'm often reviewing expensive phones here, so it's hard for me.
To compare it to the top-notch front-facing videos out there, but certainly for something that uses some completely new technology, I would say that for a lot of people it would be a passable front-facing video or a passable selfie that wouldn't be the best. I've seen it, but at least within range, so what's the verdict here. You guys know that the main reason I looked at this device was to evaluate this particular technological advancement in the front-facing camera department that everyone has been eyeing. towards imagining this future where we just stick to unobstructed screens, no notches and things like this and originally you had the motorized camera, it was the first version of that, but it was a little slow and then people were wondering about the durability to long term of a motorized front camera and then, in my opinion, this is the next phase, this is the next place we go, we try to get them to find a way to put it under the screen in such a way that you don't.
I absolutely notice that we have not completely reached that point yet. I can notice this. I can see the different pixels interwoven particularly against these light backgrounds, whether it's more or less distracting than a hole-punch or a front notch, that will be a personal preference. but strictly from a technology perspective, I think it's kind of a marvel to be able to use a camera without seeing the camera itself, even if it means seeing a slight discrepancy in the way the screen looks. This to me feels like the future once they are able to absolutely achieve it, so it's great to preserve what is the first commercially available version of this new technology.
