have misjudged this generation and it's sad that this generation is a generation of dreamers it's a generation of people
who aspire and believe in bigger things rabaa al-adawiya Hayden and the data actually bears this out six out of ten Millennials here in the Philippines they aspire to leadership positions compared to four in ten in developed markets so Filipinos want to become leaders more than people in the US more than people in the EU so that's something amazing, Filipinos are born to be leaders Filipinos are raised to be leaders Filipinos are raised to be great more than that Filipino Millennials specifically also want to become entrepreneurs, in fact the number of people doubled compared to other markets like this that kayo we want to become entrepreneurs we want to be in control of what we do we want to be in control of what we want to do in what s business or in our careers inlife
and it's bigger compared to other developed markets so this generation really is a generation of dreamers and people who want to be great who want to become good and it's not something that's really bad because if you consider the world they were born into today, optimism and the audacity to dream is something we actually have is all we have left Nova if you take a look at the salaries and opportunities out there those are the things we have left those are the things we w need to be able to hold on to now.The funny thing is that people always tell you to follow
your
dreams. People always tell you that you have to travel, that you have to experience the world. They make it sound so noble. They make it look so easy. but they never tell you how nah you see it onyour
facebook feeds almost
every day you see it on twitter almost
every day but they never tell you how that's the point of this short talk this morning my goal is to be able to be shared to your keys for give you advice on how my journey unfolded there is no sure formula for all of you we all have unique lives you all grew up in a different way what i can do today this morning is tell you my story and how it worked and i hope you guys learn something from that and can do something for themselves as they get older.
More Interesting Facts About,
why 7pm 1am is the most important time of your life carlo ople tedxcollegeofsaintbenilde...
Here is an
important
point that I would like to emphasize this morning. There is no excuse for not earning a living. doing what you love in today's age where the internet is so big and there are so many things you can do where the walls of trade the walls of business have come crashing down there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't make money doing what you love in the US Millennials are actually doing a lot of freelance work while they're in college or doing their 8-5 years. It's called a side hustle. got here marami saying oh la the complaint maraming rocket thats a good thing believe me i was a support consult myself for a longtime
so there is no excuse for you not to make a living doing what you love just check out Facebook Instagram and Twitter are many companies that offer products, services and goods on those three platforms, the question is how you do it, how can you get from point A to point B, now this is the reality, many of you will have to take a 8 to 5 which is an 8 to 5 is a day job it's 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. it sucks unless it's something you're really passionate about. It doesn't match your passion. The next three points are for you. The first
important
point. You have to stop consuming and you have to start creating. What does this mean? A lot of people today, not just millennials, but even the older generation. buy condoms on facebook condoms from youtube condoms on snapchat cohen demon odom game of thrones probably too late can i say lady mormont was the bomb for those watching? -life
balance if it means you just go home early just to watch reruns of Game of Thrones screw up your work life balance if it means you just go home early just to watch countless hours of YouTube screw up the balance between work and life if all it means is you go home do facebook twitter and read nonsense articles that don't really contribute to the meaning of life or a capacity that you have as a professional as an entrepreneur stop consuming start creating here's a secret I work in advertising that you probably don't know and they also work in publishers publishers and advertisers have divided them into a science they know how long the advice is to watch a movie they know how many seconds before they disappear they know what the main points are dubbed into a storytelling that moves they even know how to make the first five seconds of a must-see YouTube ad irresistible s for you so you don't skip they have the data Big Brother Neriah they know everything you like that you don't like and they adapt all the content everything they do to absorb you feel that you are enjoying yes you are enjoying but the truth it's that you're having the most importanttime
and i'll get to this in a bit of your life stage doing nothing you're just consuming and consuming you're not creating the key to success is knowing how to create and not consume consume less create more again damn work life balance if that means going home early just to watch youtube and download a tv series that's the first point now brings me to my second point it's called 7pm. to 1 a.m. beginning 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. you build your careers when i say that's the time you go to work you go to the office you do whatever it is you're doing you probably aren't passionate about maraming tom gannon you manasa passion you believe in us a nova when i'm on time again and our friends who work in call centers BPO Center and many other types of work know and even in advertising not many people in advertising really want to be in advertising it just so happens that they are there and trust me you will come across many of which you will probably get jobs that you are probably not good at.So, what is the time of 7 p.m. at 1 a.m. m. principle 8 to 5 you build your career 7 to 1 you build your dreams the seven to one slot of your life is the most important time for your life stage you know why because energy time in health decreases over time what i mean huh Bambaataa match up older FeO huh Bambaataa Tweet by the party mob at Linamar our NXT on demand you know that energy they have now that they still can't sleep for one day and go to track school the next day in dynamic AI? once you reach a certain age you want to go home and sleep so as long as you can as long as you have energy as long as you are healthy and the time do it when you get married it is one of the most beautiful things that will happen to you has ever happened to you but you have a wife you're my wife by the way she's here so yeah we love each other.
I am very happy to have a narrator, yes, but you will have different prior priorities. building whatever you want to build because your family now comes first so make the most of your 7 to 1 a. m. lagoon the scene sabrina manitol busy sila voila Silla auras now allah salaam we don't go in but the fact is time is the most important time in your life i'll tell you a quick story it was mentioned earlier in the intro i found in unbox which is a tech side now unbox is one of the best tech sites now in search it gets over 2 million 1.5 to 2 million unique views every month we have a lot of strong partnerships and Dicers and the content we generate is pretty good how and when it started it started about five years ago when I still needed a file I was able to upload it for seven to one I would write three to four articles on my own every day I would do reviews on my own I would shoot videos I would look like an idiot I would choose a camera and do that no vlogging and stuff the style would go to events i would meet advertisers i would meet with partners throughout the seventh and there are many more stories of people who were able to do that now, what was the result of doing that for five years? pretty amazing.
I really got to travel the world, go to events I only dreamed of, and even Filipino. style and fashion I was able to go to the Google i/o jury at the Google campus in Mountain View and I was able to take a selfie with the CEO of Google who sundar Pichai I literally rushed him and said mister selfie Shalom Canberra ok I think I was scared because I he was a big guy so picture him walking then there's a bigger guy selfie yeah very filipino. I was also able to go to other places because of my unboxing big man box advice.
I find a lot of satisfaction doing unboxing actually more than anything else and it's a side project it's a side hustle it's a passion project the road less traveled is really pursuing what you want to do but the road less traveled is the hardest road to choose when people say follow your dreams follow your passions that actually means work harder work smarter give more of yourself give more of your time and don't think for a second that the world owes you anything that's what it means to follow your passion you're not supposed to follow or listen to your heart you're supposed to lead it it's an acting thing it's not something that just magically falls into your lap and then you become successful overnight it takes a lot of hard work the The third point that I would like to emphasize is calling and gripping and this is I think a very important topic that I would like to emphasize this morning what resilience means in gripping. e many of the older generation call us millennial snacks weak willed colonial asana mahina mobile is titled medan this is the answer resilience injury is being able to withstand trials how to be able to withstand challenges and keep on igniting here is the fee you guys will fail miserably like i have failed like our movie parents and grandparents failure is the only constant in life they will not succeedful all the time and you have probably heard it a thousand times what really matters is how you get up but i will add one more thing the secret to get up all the time the secret to resilience the secret to grip is humility is knowing and Accepting the fact that you're not that good yet is knowing and accepting the fact that you are now an indian and you only see half the earth on an alum or annapurna canyon just finished but you know what i mean, look we are not blessed with all the talent in the world and there are things you need to learn we need to learn the secret to resilience is humility be humble accept the fact that you need to learn many things and that is the only time you guys will really rise and i would like to tell you one more story this is dinner One of the popular hashtags in our industry is called agency life or hashtag booyah Hamzah for those of you who want to dare to enter the world of advertising let me warn you that it is really very crazy you know how to eat your time like there is no tomorrow Sakia sha-booyah and our agency life I wasn't an agency person I started my career in media I was into games to level up - those of you are familiar with Ragnarok, the game that sucked up all your assignments and made your parents mad, so it was actually one of my jobs, then I moved on to a friend.
They're still familiar with Prancer testimonials and things like that. who joined I was already the boss because there are only a few people doing digital so there are only a few people with digital experience so they asked me to take the lead now my problem must add zero agency experience Digital was family was a natural thing but experience running an agency not so much i made a lot of mistakes we lost some clients not a few we lost a lot of clients we lost money we lost people but if there was one thing that really kept me going it was knowing the fact and accepting the fact that i wasn't there yet there that i wasn't the best but i wanted to be so i spent 7 to 1 of my time again learning how to be better by reading getting mentors talking to the ceo upstairs talking to the creative director to the ECB to get to know the business inside the now which one it was the result in our first year we were the Philippine digital agency of the year in its second year we were the silver digital agency of the year by camp Add with Asia for Asia for the Philippines and then in our third year how we sold the agency to dansou which is sort of the largest global agencies one brand agencies in the world so it really pays to be humble , no Cena Vanilla is a bible that says that the humble will be exalted. really rooted in something it's rooted in the desire to be better it's rooted in the desire that you can always become a better version of yourself and that's what I think the secret to resilience really is now let me end this talk with some few lines n It's not that I really wanted to share with you this morning and this is something that I really wanted to communicate to you the moon by owner that you are still in school and you are still Millennials people call you or we call the week people call us entitled people call us people of the week called soft we are not we are dreamers for people who have big goals the big challenge is again to get from point A to point B you are world changers you are leaders for those who aredestined for greatness you guys will cut down industries eventually some of you never know the guy next to you might be the next president but ballet or not you never know this generation is destined for greatness and i don't want you to think otherwise you are great, you are leaders and don't let your body tell you otherwise, now to finish I just want to share with you one last story.
There was a time, about 10 years ago, Dubai told them that I was addicted to ragnarök games, so I was in an internet cafe and then robbers broke in and, to make a long story short, they shot me. three times in the side so i was rushed to the hospital you think the shot would be bad. putting a tube in your lungs to drain the blood and then eventually I moved to a private hospital and then the doctor said who was the doctor that worked on your white left lung because the fluids are on your right so we have to restart the operation but it's time with the anesthesia so i know the difference and i can tell you it works so whats my point we all have a life to live and that was the greatest realization i had back then you only have one life one life short friends its not to get lost in some country and hook up with whoever Yolo is not going to Cambodia whatever is going on tinder flirt with a foreigner and that's all that's not Yolo that's dangerous there you are you psycho Yolo is making a difference Yolo is having an impact Yolo I know is realizing how great you are and you are becoming what God intended you to be leaders in bed a bed there is one thing i want to end with is these two words just onion much Thank you for your time this morning.
