what we learned in week one
If you are looking at Caden below, for you I also have the four of them, the 14 year old and the 10 year old, who are still sleeping. Let's expand those statistics. Jalen Milro's passing is in the middle column 13 of 18. Nice debut, son 13 of 18 194 yards three touchdowns caught twice you know which of the catches was by Jan Miller who didn't do his job. I think even Coach Saban said that last night Jaylee Miro Russian seven attempts 69 yards two touchdowns you also got Jason MccLellan 43 yards roydell Williams 36 yards Justice Haynes man 29 yards look those guys look good you know stick your hand in there running back jar, even Richard Young went in there five downs 19 yards and then Jay Miller four downs 14 yards we thought we were going to Look at all the quarterbacks, we saw all the running backs, my God, Isaiah Bond targeted six times, he made five receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown.
what we learned in week one
Jermaine Burton, scored three times, three receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown. Kobe Apprentice, he's got some sticky hands. sure, uh, three catches for 20 yards and Mario and I blocked two catches for 49 yards, let's keep looking at the stat sheet Kyle Henderson, a Bama football reel tied to you from Mexico City, good morning, good morning to you, um, okay, I think these are the stat notes let me see if I can find the actual defensive stats because I know I have them here somewhere because I wanted to highlight the defensive side of the ball, let's see if I can find you the defensive side of the ball, I know it was uh, I think it was Caleb Downs who let Alabama make tackles, let me see if I can pick him up, do a lot of this stuff on the fly, so stay with me, okay, here we go.
Caleb Downs leads Alabama in tackles. Yeah, the freshman doesn't play at Alabama, right, no, they started at Alabama. You had two last night. Caleb downs and Caden Proctor at tackle. Caleb Downs, eight tackles., eight tackles. We were talking last night. Coach Smook asked me: who is your defensive MVP? I almost said Caleb Downs and a lot of you inside the comment box said look it was straight up Deontay Lawson look I mean Deontay Lawson the stats are there seven tackles three assists it seems like he was everywhere two tackles for defeat, including one. quarterback sack how about Kendrick Blackshire?
You know he was great last night. A later part of the game was on coach uh Blackshire or coach Blackshire, let's call it that. Kendra Blackshire literally just stole the ball from a Middle Tennessean. Defender that he was, that was. lit, that was one of my best plays was uh Kendrick Blackshire just using that brute force and just getting it out um okay uh Chris Roswell thought it looked good uh Q Robinson I mean I really like it coming off the edge okay I like That family of outside linebackers, Dallas, turned his two tackles there at the bottom of the screen and then Jalen keyed in four tackles.
Now we are trying to wait for an injury report. We'll probably get that from Coach Simon at some point on Monday. That's a press conference and how it's going to work today, so I'll take his calls this morning. I'll open the phone lines in just a minute. I'll take your calls this morning and then tonight we turn the page to Alabama versus Texas. I have Jeff. Ketchum from orangebuds will join me at 6:30 p.m. CT, and then we'll take his calls as we talk about Alabama versus Texas, as you can watch Alabama versus Texas on Saturday, September 9th right here at beautiful Brian Denny Stadium 6 p.m. m.

week

we go to Tampa while Alabama plays South Florida um at Florida State so let's keep looking at the stats and I also want to mention the Pro Football Focus grades. We're in the comment box, let's do this live up to 100 approval if you could do that. Thank you.
Okay, Alabama sends notes and I always like to go over these notes because they point out some interesting notes. read these notes for you guys uh Jalen Milro earned the starting quarterback job and was responsible for five total touchdowns, making Todd third in Alabama school history three passes and two careers. Oh my goodness, Millrow was pulled from the game midway through the third quarter and finished with 242 yards that included 194 passing, 13 of 18 passing and also rushing for 48 on seven carries in the win over Middle Tennessee. Alabama improved its home winning streak to 21 consecutive games, which is the fourth-best in program history.
The streak dates back to November. 23, 2019. You know who came to town at that time. Alabama passed 83 and 11 all-time in 96 home openers, while head coach Nick Saban won his 26th all-time win in 28 home openers 26-2 is a college manager. football coach after closing the 2022 season averaging 7.9 penalties and 68.7 penalties per game the Tide had just two penalties for 19 yards that's an incredible statistic right there the three Alabama Mill Road quarterbacks Tyler Buckner Ty Simpson represented eight of the tide nine touchdowns in the win three rushing and passing fire uh the tide won their 52nd game and their 53rd game when they score a touchdown on the team's first offensive possession of the game the Alabama defense limited Middle Tennessee that's only 78 rushing yards what's up?
Kyle Henderson left football on YouTube going over some stats as we recap Alabama's win over Middle Tennessee, hit the thumbs up and subscribe. I appreciate you being here from wherever you come from. I know we have fans all over the country and we're starting to go global, of course, because we even have someone eating breakfast tacos with us from Mexico City, which doesn't sound like a bad idea, okay, let's go over the football stats. professional. So Pro Football Focus if you are. No, if you're new to the channel we do, we used to do this a couple of years ago.
Pro Football Focus will provide ratings to their former coaches who coach in college as professionals and then rate the players and it is a scale chart. Just like in school, so you know, 100 is awesome, but really, let's look at it like this. 90 to 100 is exceptional. Anywhere in the 80s, the player was enough. 70 pretty good and then 60, it's like the player needs to work or not. Evaluated enough, but very quickly, here is a starting lineup for Alabama against the middle. I mean, look, this is double number one, it's like the starters that started the actual game, but there are so many different variations of the Alabama formation, so I don't really read it because there are more than 11 starters on that side of the ball and I'm not protecting the whole depth chart thing, it's just that's what I mean when you get to this level, um Alabama, you know? has a lot of different formations clearly okay so here we go for Pro Football Focus uh look and these are the ratings sometimes the ratings change in the next couple of days after some of these coaches have had a chance to look at it and um let's see. these grades from Pro Football Focus and then we'll go over them now the star indicates the player started in the initial game and then the total, which is the third column at the top, the total means that's the number of snaps the player played. player uh I didn't list all the players in the game I just cut it down to 20. 20 snaps okay so in total it means snaps so let's check together Top com and I'll walk.
You got over it, so Caleb Downs started at strong safety played a total of 55 snaps his defensive rating was 65.9 his rushing defensive rating was 78.0 his tackle rating was 86.4 and his coverage rating to the right end was 60.6 okay, so now let's look at Deontay Lawson started 55 snaps, his defensive rating was 80.4, there you go, they saw him, he was starting well and they said he was their MVP. His career rating was 67.0. His password rating was 77.0, which it appears to be. highest on the team um let's also review uh Taryn Arnold 55 snaps, had 70 a rating of 77.3 and her coverage grade was 77.7 so look at some of these coverage grades on the right end like Kool-Aid has 72.9 um Chris Braswell in the 71.8 slot and then look at Jalen Key, he's number nine in the column here.
Jalen Key played in 31 snaps and we're still waiting for an update on Jalen Key's injury, but his defensive grade was 84.2, it was actually the highest on the team. That's why I felt like he was the MVP of that game last night on the defensive side of the ball. 79.8 degree of tackle. I felt like I was everywhere he and Caleb went down and then his coverage grade was 89.2 um and Eric D. What's up? I see you guys. inside the comments box thank you all for joining us this morning good morning to you, Kyle Henderson, Bama football on YouTube, hit the thumbs up like subscribe.
I appreciate you watching this morning. I'll open the calling lines in just a minute. I just wanted to go over some details of the game. I know you guys always ask about Pro Football Focus grades, so I wanted to put it out there for you, let's go over pro football offensive grades. Let me upload them for just a moment. second um that's Jalen Miro's passing chart, go over that in just a second, let's move on to the offensive side. um I think you're going to like Jay Lee Miller's ratings, let's see if I can get them if I can't get them here.
I know another way to get them, so just give me a second, okay, let's look at his approval tree real quick while I mention, you know, his overall Alabama approval ratings, so what this chart describes to us is out on the left. between the numbers. and outside right and this is looking at Jalen Milro's passing tree last night against the middle, so outside left and 20 yards up is the top column and that's something we really wanted to see from Jay Lee Miller is how he I would go deep. passing situations well to the left outside and 20 yards downfield was one for one with a touchdown and an NFL passing rating of 158.3 which is exceptional between the numbers and 25 yards downfield we are in the top column one for one 47 yards one touchdown pass rating 158.3 pretty good for right outside for two 48 yards and one touchdown 135.4 NFL rating these are some exceptional ratings.
I get it, it's average, you're going to be a different caliber like Coach Saban said against Texas, but for the stats of what are impressive numbers.considering we all wanted to see his deep pass so there he is one two three three for five going deep with three touchdown passes to right outside between the numbers and left outside now 10 yards down that's the rapid ones. option say or swing out um outside left was two of two 14 yards four or five 28 yards and then one of one and that's less than 10 yards so that's Jalen Miro's passing tree and lemme see if we can get these statistics.
For you guys, I really want to show you, um, Pro Football Focus, uh, the ratings, let's see, I think we can get it right here, you see I do all the editing and stuff on my own, so a lot of this stuff is in the fly i just like to make things up trying to fly whats up kyle henderson bama football on youtube thumbs up like subscribe appreciate you guys im going to open the call online uh right now while i finish this y'all den call me i want to split it with you this tomorrow. I'm going to listen to your thoughts on what they

learned

after Alabama's first win of the season and let's go live real quick and send this to them so they can let's see here we go and these are the ratings from last night let's go up to the top again the star indicates the player started and I cut the list down to 17 moves which is at the bottom of the screen Malik Benson so let's go back up to the top.
Pro Football Focus ratings, you guys will get used to this and get used to it. As we go, Kaden Proctor started at left tackle in 57 snaps and his offensive rating was 56.1. Alright. Improvement. Tyler Booker. This one is in PR. This one is interesting. 57 plays in total. 58.4. They were tough on the offensive line. JC Latham. 57 plays. 64.8 is a little better Seth McLaughlin six 50.6 so look we're talking about this offensive line Pro Football Focus is how you look at this offensive line you know uh they didn't rate them very highly look I look at 92.3 OMG that's crazy. The ratings are like the Bryson type ratings uh Darian scores the court 59.4 so as you can see the offensive line didn't get the best ratings so I want to get your feedback on that there were a couple of times where I did it.
I don't know, it seemed like the offensive line was a little slow at times, maybe I mean, look, we have to be critical, if we want this team to get better. These are some of the things I saw on Jermaine Burton 73.8 good to see Isaiah Bond 73.19 black 83.2 uh and they're like the rest of the greats so with that being said um let's go to the phone lines let's do this I want to take your calls I want to talk about Alabama uh verse in the middle of what they

learned

and uh we'll go to the phone lines and we'll start now with three four seven hello good morning you're on the line with Kyle Henderson who I'm on the line with and how are you calling.
Him from Hello, what's up? Kyle, this is Jonathan. I live in New York City, but I am from Birmingham. Jonathan from New York City. I appreciate you calling. Your conclusions from the game. Go ahead, I just wanted to point out two things. Us. I've already talked about both, actually, but last night we were focused on a lot of different things, but one thing I wanted to point out was the penalties. I was really, you know, anxious to see how that was going to work out. That's one thing you know, he destroyed us last year and the other thing was Jalen Key.
I was a little high on it. I went in, you know, because I saw it last year, and you know, the year before. but he, he, he's a baseball player and, um, I think you know, I hope we hear some, some good news about him, but, for the most part, man, if we can keep it up, the penalties, you know, They play disciplined football and I also noticed a lot, a lot of solo tackles last night no one was missing you know too many tackles and I think we're in good shape I don't think the coach showed his full hand last night of course and I think we'll think we'll be ready for Texas and we will think that the people will be victorious next

week

.
Thank you for taking my call. Yes, I appreciate it. John, thank you very much. I'll answer you on the other line. Thanks for calling. The New York man always likes to go to the Big Apple and you know I'm a big fan of locks and bagels. I can't, I can't deny it, man and there's no better place than why I see. the penalty stat was fantastic, just two penalties last night for a team that, you know, felt like they were very undisciplined at times last year. I think it was a big emphasis on Coach Saban's part and like John said, the phone lines are open, so if you go.
The guys want to call him, we have a two five six and a 417 inside the scam inside the call queue. I'll get back to you in just a second. Sanctions were something that needed to be addressed. It was addressed, so that's huge. opening game especially you know the lights and their first game and you know you have the right psychological disposition to play in a high profile game sometimes it's not against the opponent it's about yourself so see that from Alabama was certainly something that stood out, open field tackles, I thought that was cool too, and look, this is a new defense under Kevin still and you go out and do some good things on defense, I don't think I saw, you know, too many missed tackles.
I thought the secondary played aggressive, you know, guys in the secondary turn around, there was a time, can you help me with this? Do you remember? It looks like Caleb Downs was defeated. I don't know if he. he was outplayed by criticism out of position or remember that play where it looked like he was out there and the receiver didn't catch the ball? That was something that was highlighted early in the injury report in the terms Travis Armstrong is asking about Jalen. Key and Malachi Moore, those are the two guys that got hit last night, no news on those guys yet.
We usually get an injury report on Monday, if there is one, so let's see, you know, we'll listen to Coach Saban, we'll bring it to you. As soon as we hear from anyone who knows any words, if anyone breaks it, we'll come back with the video on those injuries, because they're major injuries, you're talking about two starters in the defensive secondary against a loaded Texas team. team that has all the weapons in the reception uh core um not dropping balls again you're right like you know who was sticky Kobe's Apprentice I know you didn't get many goals, it's confusing me with number six because you have him at number six and then you have Jalen Key at number six, but look, Princess Kobe was clingy and the guy was him.
Had some really nice pickups on the 256 phone lines. Hello, good morning, you're on the line with Kyle Henderson at home on the line with him where are you calling from hey Carlos Danny calling from Tuscaloosa I appreciate it what was your what was your name I missed it Danny, okay, Danny, go ahead, man, yeah, um, I enjoyed the game. I saw some things. I like to analyze things myself, although I'm not a coach or anything, but. Yeah, Caleb Downs, they beat him like one, well, in one play, but you know he's a freshman. You know this isn't high school. so you know he's going to get better, he's just going to get used to it, but you know he was looking good.
I see a lot of comments about different things and things that someone was talking about, they're not really impressed. I see myself like this. Why aren't you impressed? It's like the state of Middle Tennessee is moved and I'll explain. I told them: do you know how difficult it is? Yes, Middle Tennessee State doesn't have four and five stars, but you do have four. wide receivers, you have one that can go on a screen, one can go to Flint with a deep ball like it's not easy to defend against the passing offense because you don't really have enough time to get to the quarterback because they're always throwing all over the place. . and the defense, you know, they held a ground, they played, they played really well and like you said about the penalties, I was proud of that, like there weren't a lot of holding calls, none of that on the line with John calling from beautiful Tuscaloosa , Alabama, same with you, man, I'm here in Tuscaloosa and what's this weather like?
We had nice weather yesterday and today is pretty nice too because before fall camp it was brutal it felt like 120 or something so it's almost time to put on a jacket you're right I think you know I wanted to see and I talked about this in some of my earlier videos and I was on the line with Danny calling from Tuscaloosa. I wanted to see the secondary play aggressively. I get it, you'll get a different caliber in Texas, but how will the defensive secondary adjust when you're springing up on the field? Credit to Alabama for getting a couple of taxes. sacks because a team that gets the ball out as fast as Middle Tennessee, they just ran the ball right into the flats, didn't make many throws over the top, but they got the ball out so quickly, so it was impressive that Alabama got some heat in the quarterback I saw Q Robinson a couple times coming in there um you guys saw Deontay Lawson with the sack.
I liked what we saw in the password. I also saw some good things from Jaheem Otis and you know, sometimes when we rewatch the game, we see a couple of things that catch our attention. I like Kendrick Blackshire's work because we all wanted to see Kendrick Black Shark. He is clearly ready to play. I didn't see Jihad Campbell last night yet, uh. You probably know what's likely for the next game against Texas, but having that depth inside middle linebacker is very important. Kendrick Blackshire rips the ball off and just takes it away from the opposition, which turned into a score for Alabama.
It's good to see Kendrick Blackshire what's up. What else do you have in mind? Danny is uh, while you rewatch this game or you know, you had time to digest a little good. He really wanted to talk about the next Texas game. I watch Texas play Rice and uh, selling Texas fans, like if they bring this to Tuscaloosa, this game is going to end because you know last year I was telling people the reason Alabama got beat by Brian, I want I mean, what's Robinson's name? but, um, Bijan Robinson, and you know he's a playmaker and he's dangerous when he's open and stuff, so that was one of the reasons they beat him over because he was scary, like I was focused on him and then, when he was watching the race and me.
I look like Texas is really fighting rice and rice doesn't have four and five stars like Texas and I tell Texas fans if they bring this exclusive, this game will end at halftime because Alabama is not going. to play and then exactly drafted, he also dropped a lot of balls in that game and I'm going to look like the Texas man better do better than this. Everything has to tell them yes, on the line with uh Danny Conan from Tuscaloosa uh within the The call queue, we receive the call to 417 online is also opening up, so if you want to receive it, you are calling this morning, the call in line is 205-850-1994.
We're taking a look at what we learned from Alabama's win over the middle, last night, yes, Danny. I think when you watch that Texas game, there's been so much hype around that game, there's so much concentration and you know that college game day is going to be here, so what team do you know that can stand up and play at that high level in a game? Week 2 matchup, sure we got a small sample size of some of our players, but can they show that consistency to play and carry that into the next game? And like you said, you know there were work passes on the Texas side that I didn't see. too much of the game Texas Rise.
I'll probably do it later today just to get an idea of, you know, what this Texas team is, you know, looking out the doors, but I watched that Colorado First TCU game. prom coach that game, that guy was crazy, right, Coach Prime was bringing him. Dory Sanders was falling. I can't believe he threw for over 500 yards. Travis Hunter is definitely the truth. He's going to be the tallest man and he fell, he fell. that touchdown, um, but after that came with a touchdown that was called out of bounds and then he had an interception on defense, now guys, the guy is a real, um, Kyle Henderson, a Bama football in YouTube, thumbs up like subscribe, got the venmo link Super chat with Danny from Tuscaloosa appreciated while we're breaking down this game.
Anything else that stands out or that you want to talk to Danny about before he bounces. Oh no, that's all. I mean, that's all I wanted to talk about. I did it against Middle Tennessee and then how Texas was fighting rice well we appreciate you Danny thank you so much enjoy this beautiful day here in Tuscaloosa and we'll catch up with you soon. Alright, have a good day, man, Danny. calling from Tuscaloosa we have a 417 and a 256 inside the call queue the call line is open 205 850 1994 so this is what we know because I think a lot of people are looking for an update on the key Jalen and Malachi Moore um so Travis is saying this uh Jalen Key limped out after a punt return he didn't walk back under his own power there's no updates there saying thisit's the truth right here um no updates in terms of where things are with Jalen Key and then the same with Malachi Moore still looking for an update on Malachi Moore to see where he'll be and get his status as we move forward in this competition of the second week against Texas so since these are major injuries I'll probably come back with a video um if there's any major updates so hit the notification bell and I'll be on top of that as well and if anything goes wrong or we start to learn a little bit more, we will notify you directly. um YouTube so we appreciate you guys and Travis is saying Malachi with the high ankle sprain um so we appreciate you guys Travis it looks like you're coming up with some good updates.
I really appreciate that we got back on the phone lines this morning. and let's go with the 417, we start right now hey, thanks for being patient, you're on the line with Kyle Henderson, who I'm on the line with, where are you calling from? Yes, first of all, is my microphone working well? You are a good man, can I hear you loud and clear? Awesome, I'm currently Austin Over The Road Trucking, but I'm from Webb City Missouri, okay man, go ahead, what were your takeaways from last night's Alabama Middle game, loved it. how there were a lot of penalties, but I also loved how collective we were as a whole, defensively, we just came together like something I had been waiting for. to watch him for a while um and also Caleb Downs after watching him for a while, It's starting to remind me just of the structure of it, the way it's built reminds me of sort of Darwin James for the Chargers.
I love that comparison, look because, along the lines of um, with Austin from Missouri, look, a lot of people have been coming and no district. Minka is one of my favorite players from Alabama, so she expresses a person as good as my son, who is watching there, uh, on YouTube, like being like Minka, the guy is ha. He is very measured, a good guy, but his body style is completely different from Caleb Downs. I understand they both had a high profile when they came in, but Caleb Downs is high, he's a big guy. I think he's a lot more physical than Minka, honestly, and I think that's probably the best comparison.
I'm probably going to use it in the future and we're starting to see some Texas fans come in. What's happening? Jason, see you in the comment box. Thank you very much for joining us. We spoke via text tonight at 6:30 p.m. m. I can't wait to do it. What else Austin? I love that you mentioned no penalties or limited penalties last night, just two penalties. I thought it was outstanding in the first game because things are going, you know, things are going a million miles an hour, but this team was clearly focused on penalties, so it was certainly a marquee and we're tracking injuries if you joined to us, so we'll bring you those updates.
Let's go with Austin from Missouri, what else, Austin, what are you going on? Well, I also like how those linebackers, man, they were freaking out everywhere. I was very impressed that they were on the sideline, all of this. Lawson was all over the place the whole place and I just like how our cornerbacks, you know, battled throughout the game. I like the fact that Alabama had a chance to spread out in the first week. I've mentioned it a couple of times. We're going to get a different caliber, we're going to sell it all week against Texas, however, being in some different situations, like there was even a time where Treasurer Marshall got ejected, you know that probably wasn't what Coach Saban wanted to see and that was on one of those long quarterback runs um those are things you watch today or are they priorities you know who knows I mean they watch the movie so fast those are the things that get attention and they divide.
Out and you're going to face another athletic quarterback, although last night's quarterback from the middle, I mean the guy could run and Alabama did a really good job tackling in open space, I thought all night and as Travis says in the comment. box, likes player Trey Amos, um, too. I mean Taryn Arnold did well, Kool-Aid did well and then Caleb downs and Jalen Keith, honestly the secondary played great last night so it was right sometimes you just want to see these guys. in entry position in open field and this is under Kevin still. I think we're off to a good start so far.
Nobody says this is the best defense. I'm just saying what it was like yesterday. I liked what we saw. the defense anything else Austin before we move on to our next call yeah one thing for that Texas game one thing I'm looking for is if we come together as one and something like 2017 in the playoffs against uh Clemson because that team was so mad at the world, it felt like it was right before kickoff, so they came in with that energy, oh, it's going to be a good day, I appreciate that, man, thank you so much for, yeah. stay safe on the road austin and we'll catch up with you soon man ok we'll make the time man roll tied to you austin calls from missouri uh stay safe on the road uh you know what else it really is and eric it's right inside the comment box t-rob uh Travaris Robinson, who is the secondary coach at Alabama.
I thought he did a great job. He came to Alabama from Miami. um and uh, you know, fart puncher, what a username, same fair play, two penalties, I love it, what's up Mike? See you in the comment box uh Kenneth is saying the linebackers looked better than them uh so nothing to do with last year's defense Jason uh he's a Texas fan uh I'm glad we're coming to the SEC like it's happening It's an absolutely serious challenge and the serious challenge now comes when Alabama and Texas meet during the second week of the college football Super Bowl.
My name is Kyle Henderson, a football player from Bama. Alabama against Texas, next Saturday, September 9 at 6 p.m. TV ESPN Alabama. favored by six and a half uh we got colors on our Carl Q of two five six eight five nine and two five one i'll catch you in just a second press the ok fam. I really appreciate it let's get 100 thumbs up on this video um it's something you might as well do on our related content that I upload if you can give those videos a thumbs up. I really appreciate it, it helps those videos get more traffic, and you know I'm doing my best to bring a ton of content and what about those guys last night on the postgame show Coach smook uh coach Sean coach jeric those guys did great job very happy with those guys ok let's go to the phone lines and uh 256 take it now hey thanks for being patient you're on the line with kyle henderson who i'm talking to and where you're calling from Anthony from Jacksonville State University.
Okay, Anthony from Jacksonville State University. What do you have in mind? Man, take it. Kyle I just want to say I appreciate it I've been watching you for the last four years You have a great show You have great content I really appreciate it Thank you very much I really appreciate it What's on your mind after Alabama's first win of the season? He stopped me. It's crazy that Damien Dial Court still can't learn a trick, you know, he's been on the show for four years, he's been here for a long time, I mean, he's a graduate, so he's had enough time, you know, in the center position.
And you know, at the guard position, I mean, we're talking about a veteran player, so I think you know through the good line coaches we've had, you know some of them have. He's been great as a key or whatever but I really think the guy that played that second string I never got to see his name all I could see was his number on Right Guard he really had terrific drive and terrific movement and was acquiring something stunts in the second one you know when I was playing with Buckner and when I was playing with Simpson and I just you know I hope we fix that because you know everyone has seen those glaring weaknesses and you know they're going to start. attack that but my real concern is that Janet Milro relies too much on her arm when she doesn't lock her feet on the receiver, her front foot not finding the receiver really makes it inaccurate and I see why the coach's savings had a problem this year because Tyler Buckner is not the answer with that rag arm of his and uh, Ty Simpson would be the answer, but I don't know, I've never seen any of the practices, so I don't know what prevents him from being at least the second quarterback field, but what do you think of those things?
Yes, along the lines of Jacksonville State's Anthony Conan. I appreciate you guys inside the comment box as well, so a couple of things now. I felt like Jaylen Miro's accuracy got better as the game progressed. I thought some of those first quarter throws, some of them out, I wanted to see them a little quicker and I think he got more accurate. As he got more comfortable, for example, I showed him a graphic on Pro Football Focus that showed, you know, his deep balls were right on the money 25 yards downfield and I think collectively, as a group, we all wanted to see a improve from deep.
Jalen Millro's ball and he was able to show it last night to Isaiah Bond, Jermaine Burton and Amari nyblack, so I think he was really good in that category. I was surprised and this is a story that, uh, my friend Tony Soucalis from Rivals. uh it broke down a couple nights before he said Tyler Buckner was going to be the number two quarterback or the first one off the bench, you know, when Jalen was subbed and people were coming and going and that surprised me a little bit. bit. also because you look at that two horse race behind for second place and it looks like Tyler Buckner passed Ty Simpson during fall camp, what does that mean?
Well, probably not so much right now, but I mean, I think you know if you're Ty Simpson, you know, getting beat is hard, but you know, just because what we saw in the first game doesn't continue throughout this season, like Saban said. , and then I was talking to someone very close to the program before the game and another quarterback they keep mentioning is Dylan Lonergan, they're like he's been to practice several times, so the freshman continues to impress every time we're there, but i said this look when the bullets start to fly and this is what do i mean by that?
When the ball broke over your head on the ground. What happened to that Seth McLaughlin thing? What kind of game do those bullets fly when you pick up a ball and are able to just play football in the backyard? People miss them, I mean, go see Jalen Millro run again, that was awesome, so he's a playmaker. I was glad he stepped up in the first week and showed those skills, so, and then getting your second point on the offense. line regarding Darion Delcort. I've liked breaking up with Terence Ferguson AK Ferg, they're still, I think, mixing and matching and looking for that second level depth on the offensive line.
There was a moment in the third quarter where they just traded. everyone like Tyler Buckner was about to push into the end zone and they just put all their number twos on, um, maybe that was a way to keep those guys healthy, I'm not sure, but I'm seeing a lot. of people criticizing Darian Dow on the court this morning, anything else, Anthony, why, why are we online? Well I agree with most of your points. I think Jalen is a true number one playmaker. In my opinion, he is not as calm as maybe Jalen hurts. but you're never going to get that in a young quarterback.
I mean, he was just born to play the position, but in another sense you can't tell me that he spent all that time in Florida this summer working with these receivers. and supposedly a quarterbacks coach and someone didn't work on foot placement for him. I mean, it's very essential for all quarterbacks to know that they have a good grasp of his mechanics and yeah, he just did that in the first half of the second quarter and he came in with some beautiful deep throws. I've never questioned that about him, but he misses a lot of reads, you know, like in the first quarter at the end of the first quarter when he, uh, uh, what's his name, number three was running it. on the sidelines after making a really good move on the DB and then turning around and not even seeing that and getting sacked, yeah no, he threw a short one that didn't get caught, uh, but that's really disconcerting to me, kinda , uh, defense.
I really appreciated that we had a D coordinator who doesn't need a whole house before they start changing the look of the defense. I mean, he actually made a defensive scheme where he was shutting down Tennessee's middle quarterback options, you know, to run the quarterback stuff and stuff. It was beautiful to watch and you really know this defense is going to have to step up for at least half the year until they figure out what they want to do at the 5-0 line and what they want to do at quarterback, but you know no, I'm not sounding a five-bell alarm. , simplyIt didn't look very clean, they looked like a very good high school team, but the defense was actually able to change their uh, their Slants and their fronts on the field.
D-line to just hold their ears back sometimes like someone saw it when they held the line when um Dallas Turner went inside and uh a kid went outside and then they pressed down the middle and that caused uh what was ? Oh man, it drives me crazy, but you see what I'm saying, you know things changed at a crucial moment during the game and we haven't had that in four years, so you know not to criticize the guy who just left. I know it's hot garbage in a lot of people's minds. I just think you know he tried too hard to please Saban instead of just doing his job and he wasn't that good of a communicator, where Kevin Steele is a very good communicator, especially. at the linebacker level and you know, I like the guy Quindarius Robinson, he thought he was very physical, he thought he covered the back out of the backfield very closely and I really liked the defense this year, they're going to have to scramble us for a while anyway .
I appreciate his time today, Kyle, everyone have a great show and good luck. Okay, thanks Anthony. I appreciate him calling. Anthony called from Jacksonville State to talk about where Jalen Milro is in terms of some of the throws. mechanics, I think it's something that we need as a quarterback guru to come in and talk about some of that and some of his uh, you know the general schemes and you know what Jalen's doing in terms of being a quarterback for most. Although part of what I want to say is that D-balls are something I certainly wanted to see and let me know if you agree or disagree with the foot placement of our last caller, Anthony, at Jacksonville State, which I appreciate.
He also brings up a good point about the defense, like the defense made adjustments and, look, I was really excited about that. defense I mean, I thought you knew we wanted to see the secondary come with that, we want to see the pass rush, the pass rush came with that against a team that can get the ball out super fast, they tackled him very well in the open field, no. I have a lot of running game so you know see how that plays out but tackling in the open field and you know Kendrick Blackshire got some reps it was good for us to see Deontay Lawson all over the field and there's a photo. right there from Alabama's number two quarterback or at least now, uh, Tyler Buckner, we're back on the phone lines, it's 251, we start right now, hey, good morning, you're on the line with Kyle Henderson, who I'm on the line with him, where are they?
You're calling from Hello, man, it's Robert from the mobile. Robert, good morning. I appreciate you calling. What are your conclusions? After watching Alabama last night. Well, I like your last call. I have absolutely no problem getting rid of the last defensive coordinator. humanized guy now I want to talk about him but I don't have those qualms, it was night and day when it came to defense when it was like it was so refreshing not to watch the teams looking at the bench two seconds before kick off. The defense two seconds before the snap offered by the opposing team's office almost snapped the ball and they are still watching on the sidelines for some reason plays are not called in time or are changed on the fly.
I know the defense seems in sync. coordinated and everyone knew what they were doing and I saw a defensive back with his head around when the ball when uh when when the receivers were about to catch the ball and hit it yeah, it was a great thing to see uh jail and mirror like you said when the play broke down with that bad center. In my opinion, only two quarterbacks on the hit in the Nick Saban era could have turned that blown play into a touchdown and that's Jalen Miro and Jalen hurts the rest of them. on the field, touchdown disaster, that's the kind of place you know you're getting out of jail and Miller responded many times to calls because we had every doubt of course there's no way to not have doubts about what I watched it the last few days and that's just human nature and you wait to see this season.
Well, can you overcome those doubts? And he's in that first game. It was really good so far. I agree with you about express routes on exit routes. I know they stepped aside to get more information, Robert, won't you sit down? Because I said that when my videos and people who like um didn't agree with it, but at least from my point of view like yours, they seemed like the exit routes. like I haven't pushed him enough and though if you play a secondary that can shut down the quickest, those are the ones to take home. Was I wrong about that or do you agree with that?
No I'm totally okay with that if that's Georgia that's the danger it could be a pick six that's what I was talking about yes absolutely yes if that's Georgia or even LSU that could be a pick six but he was melrose ass after reporters you know ok his attitude after in his interview was fantastic yeah i can do better i can do better i will do better and that's what you want to hear from guy, I mean, he's definitely uh and he also wants to talk about being a leader, that's another thing he's talking about. about yeah, there you go, i agree with you, i'll also call about uh, about uh, ty simpson is not the second string, that was kind of a surprise, very surprising, yeah, yeah, i think so too, i mean, because we've been talking about um you know Ty Simpson and look I mean I got the video you can go watch it you know go watch it and he says you know he throws a great ball but um clearly me and Tyler Buckner We got over it at some point and I.
I'm a little curious if that has to do with him having a little more continuity with Alabama's new offensive coordinator, Tommy Reese, right. I get it, it's like it's the Alabama offense, but you know the continuity comes from the quarterback room, those guys clearly know each other because they were at Notre Dame and I don't want to take anything away from Tyler Buckner because the guy is super athletic and when he cut and scored his touchdown he ran like we know he's athletic, he's a very athletic quarterback and I think he's capable, but um, there's nothing wrong with having a solid number two, you know it's a tough season, There's nothing wrong with having a solid number three, Robert, you know what caught my attention about running backs too?
We thought we would check. all four or five running backs or whatever, even Julian said, maybe take a shot last night, right, um, but all the running backs played, even Richard Young, so you had as justice Haynes, who's been promoting that he played, It looked cool, but even they were. down and he gave Richard Young some plays on all the running backs looked very capable. The blocking line for running backs is fine, that needs a little more improvement. I really wanted to see this team pushed more than they were in terms of opening. holes for running back I saw too many plays where the basketball running backfield I don't want military you know this team gets it I'll run it back in backfield uh for being the other one what's your thing? to do what LSU is going to do but again it's early I mean this is out the gate as this is out the gate you're going to get a preseason in college football so this is where you wear these little ones uh you know the lower level teams the iron that kind of thing comes out early on he said okay we got to work here we got to work there and then when Texas comes along okay you think we you've got a movie to watch like you said when you've got the ammo active you've got a movie to watch and watch ok what do you need to work on and uh i wasn't impressed by anybody.
I mean, the other thing has been the most impressive, the team so far, surprisingly, so no. everyone else because Alabama was really impressive, but Notre Dame looked pretty good. I think they may have to be legit, but the rest of them, you know, it's like maybe all of you aren't trying to show anything, you know, give Nick Saban Texas. He wasn't trying to get something to look at, maybe that's the reason, but yeah, you need something. I didn't see much of Texas and Georgia in the same way, it was like, yeah, maybe you already started trying to show the next opponent something, yeah, because you know you can beat this team easily, but you know you need some improvements, but the costs are wide open right now, it's wide open, yeah, zero.
The transfer portal has turned college football into a wide open door, yeah, no, I think I think that's where it is. It's a parody, but look, I got it Notre Dame um, you know, it was for a hot star, but I just tried to drink the Notre Dame Kool-Aid before and then the same thing always happens to me, it's like you know. You get to this point and I think it's like I'm living in the past in some of these Notre Dame games where they played Alabama, but I have respect for their quarterback because Sam Hartman is an absolute player, so maybe this is all. they know this is their team or whatever.
I'm curious to also see other equipment that people are buying. They're drinking the Kool-Aid in this Florida State taking on LSU tonight. I know we will all be caught up in it. that game is Sunday night, I can't wait to watch it and see if this Florida State team is worth it and then see, you know, the spillover effect of last year's success with Brian Kelly and LSU comes into that marquee. game there in Orlando, so those are the games we're looking at, but you know, look last night against Middle Tennessee, in the first half it didn't look like this team was overwhelming, which is completely fine.
I felt like they were trying to get into their rhythm, but in that third quarter and when they started to make some adjustments, they started to feel really good, the caliber is going to be a lot different when Texas comes in, we know we know Middle Tennessee, but from what it was , there were many good points. the key things were the open field tackles um limited penalties uh they caught the ball correctly they caught the ball Kobe Prentice made some incredible catches there were limited drops Jalen Millro improved on his deep passing we saw it um so those little things that we were that were on our list checklist, I think we all hit them last night for the first week, it was what it was, it was Middle Tennessee, so some of the ones on our checklist, those are some things we want to see, anything else, Robert, why do we include you? the line, oh yeah, one thing you mentioned too with the penalties like your other callers mentioned that too, gosh, thank you all for reducing these penalties and, the one the announcers did once, from the defense of P Golden, which I was surprised to hear. when was when we intercepted the ball, the guy brought in the staff that Alabama had only had seven interceptions last season what's the lowest and Nick knows well, I appreciate it, man, it's okay, uh Robert calling from the cell phone, uh 205 , you are up.
Then, and then, the online call is open, hey, look, it looks like we have a pretty good list of injuries, so it looks like you guys are saying that Emmanuel Henderson had the knee. Scopes we have Henderson um you have Jahi Campbell so let's see him it seems likely um waiting for an update on Malachi Moore waiting for an update on Jalen key um who else am I missing? So I have Emmanuel Henderson Campbell Moore. Jalen key. Am I missing anyone else for the injury report just so we can? To organize things a little bit, my name is Kyle Henderson and Bama Football on YouTube, hit the thumbs up like subscribe, I'm here from beautiful Tuscaloosa, Alabama, uh, thank you Tiffany Tyler for the one dollar spot that goes to Wendy's for that dollar. nugget hit and then you became a new member, I really appreciated it and then, uh, Moody appreciated it, I didn't expect, uh, I expected more from my running game, maybe that was kind of by Design, in a sense, you know What do you want to see, uh.
You don't want to show too much in that opening game, but I think when we looked at that check box of what we wanted to see from Alabama, like we wanted to see better open field tackles, we wanted to see this team catch the ball we wanted to see turnovers. limited we wanted to see a better deep ball so when you hit all those checkpoints Alabama hit those checkpoints we're going to open the phone lines again 205-850-994 Kyle Henderson football abandonment on YouTube if you want to call now it's a good time we'll get back to the phone lines we have a 205 and we'll take it right now hey thanks for being patient you're on the line with Kyle Henderson home on the line with him, where are you calling him from?
Well look, there's a Damian from um Birmingham Damian from Birmingham, man, what's on your mind? Take it down, alright, number one, I like your show, man, I've been listening to it for a while. Now, thank you very much, but just to get to yesterday's game, actually, you know, when you look at it, off theline, we made a pretty good pass blocking, that was a good thing, I mean, I know we let some people leave it. Some defensive line came in, you know, throughout the game, but they honestly did a good job blocking manually. I think we need to work on run blocking.
I know our front office lineman talked about our season about how dominant they want. Being on the line, and I honestly didn't see it in the game, like I said, it's something we have to work on. I think Nick mentioned that at halftime as well in regards to quarterback play, Mr. Barrow. He did well and I know we will talk about what his role was like. There could easily have been six picked as if we were playing other teams, but we also have to realize that you know he, I know he was playing Jitters. and this is the first star, he wants to make sure everything is okay, so I think he was progressing through the game and he saw how comfortable he was getting on and on, so now we're at a point where we're good, um, I really think he gained a lot of confidence and I hope Nick doesn't blow it by trading, not the quarterback, letting him take over the team so he can get comfortable and I guarantee if he played that way, we know he can do it. . play yeah no I don't see us going to Nacional if you need to tighten all the little screws you know defensively we look pretty good I think deep lane I did a pretty good job even though we're in the middle of Tennessee.
State, but at the end of the day they had some big balls and I think we held our own like they said the linebacker was all over the place. Our cornerback played pretty well. I had to go with Mr. Arnold. I mean, they start going towards him. early in the game and then he held his own yeah you know much better than last year Kool-Aid Kool-Aid you know Kool-Aid to Kool-Aid we know how he is um and I also saw the like you said um number two uh down down yeah he was in every part of the field trying to hit he was playing his will play this for his part uh even Keith with the interception um good read on the interception too like I said I mean our team is game one and with the things that I see, I really think that once we get familiar with each other, familiar with the team and, for me, with um Mr. uh, savings scheme and stuff, I mean, we'll be fine.
In the middle of the season I appreciate uh Damien called from Birmingham I appreciate you yeah I think you made some good points like they immediately attacked Taryn Arnold early on they went right at him they didn't go Kool. The help went directly to Taryn Arnold because I wanted to see if she had improved, you know, you look for weak spots when you're an offensive coordinator, I think in some of the movies you watch from last year, like who can we go for and they went after, uh, Taryn Arnold. I want to see continued improved play from this offensive line in week two because you have to be able to run the ball effectively, so it's like we rate running backs high, but the offensive line, you know, and sure, there's thousand pounds of meat.
Up there, whatever they have, they have to be able to continue putting pressure on the defense because they play a fundamental role and I think they are capable enough. I just didn't think the offensive line had their best performance last night, but that's OK, it's the first week, you know, you take it for what it's worth and they did a good job on the pass. Pro, it's hard to get around those two towering tackles, in the sack that they got on Jalen Mill Road, that necessarily in In my opinion, that was not on the offensive line and coach Saban said that there was also a running back that missed a block on a blitz and that's how they were able to get to Jalen Miro, so you know, it is what it is, it's a good showing for the first week.
Anything else, why we have you on the line, Damien, now, as he will say Roll Tide to the Roadside Nation. to call and talk, did you guys see? Did you watch Jaylen Monroe's interview from last night while we wait for our next call? I'm going to go ahead and appear in Jalen Miro's interview last night. What a great interview, this young man, you know, has done an enormous amount of work, but he didn't really get any praise. I was front and center on Jalen Miro, here's his interview last night after the Alabama win. Very good, guys, in general.
It wasn't clean, there are many things we still need to improve to be where we are as a team. We only want to improve one percent, so I want to enjoy the victory. They were tough opponents, so here we are. I'm going to take this as a 24 hour rule, as we say here, enjoy the victory, it doesn't matter what we got, so I'll enjoy it and move on, yeah, how you feel about your performance, uh, overall, I need to improve , I need to do it. Be better as a leader. I need to be better overall at what I'm doing.
I just want to keep building and be the best version of myself when I go out on the field. So there are a few things I'm going to look at. with the coaching staff and my teammates to see some things that improve, so I sure have to try some things, yeah, what goes through your mind during that first touchdown. You know the game is interrupted. You score a touchdown. Honestly, that's how it was. all set up on my team, you know, unfortunately I was able to pick up the ball and make a play with it, but it was all with the other 10 guys on the field that helped me get to the end zone. off-season, I know when it came down to tonight, how much of that do you want to be a part of your game going forward, um, like I said, I want to improve every element of my game, you know, it's not one specific thing that I want to improve. , but that element of my game has to be there so that we can strive and be successful throughout the year, when did you know you were going to start and what was going through your mind at that moment?
Oh, it was sometime during the week I don't remember exactly when, but no matter what if it was a backup or what I still didn't get better at so honestly building his entire room as a whole um we pushed each other um we built our chemistry together our relationship who goes for uh Dylan who goes for Eli who goes for Ty Tyler um the whole room as a whole, so I just talked about one guy who took the job without waiting for it to come to him being the first one out. Did you have that mentality?
I'm not going to let someone come in here and take a job, I'm not necessarily just going to worry about getting one percent better every day, no matter who's on the field, their qb1 um, so I just want to be the best teammate. that can I can and I support all the guys that were on the field no matter who it is I just want to be the best teammate I can that's Jalen Milro after Alabama's win over the middle uh we'll get back on the phone lines right now. a 931 and we'll get it right now hey thanks for being patient you're on the line with Kyle Henderson who I'm on the line with and where are you calling from yeah this is Brooks from Nashville hey Brooks I appreciate it.
You're calling from Nashville, one of my favorite cities, what's on your mind after Alabama's first win of the season? Yeah, I was just going to say, I know you obviously never want to see injuries with Malachi and Jalen Key going down, but I was really encouraged with um how the play picked up when I think it was uh Tyrion went back to Star and Trey Amos uh backed into the corner. and uh I think this team showed a little bit of depth that maybe beyond Alabama hasn't had In that secondary, it was really encouraging to see and I have a lot of optimism for this season.
Yeah, I think you bring up a great point, it's one of the things Coach Saban has talked about on the line with Nashville's Brooks. able to be versatile within that secondary and you're right, a lot of those guys can mix and match and I think that's important considering Alabama, you know, we're looking at two injuries right now with Jalen Key and Malachi Moore. and I'm not going to speculate on how long you know those injuries last, how long you know those players might be or if they'll even be out, but the thing is you know you have to be able to play safety at Star Corner within this.
Alabama defense and there are guys who clearly can do that. I think a lot of people are very excited about the arrival of Trey Amos. I thought he did a really good job last night. Same with Jalen Key. That guy is really good. And people were like, "Oh, him." he plays at UAB, no, no, like the guy plays in a total, um, I think he had like 800 snaps or something like that last season, so a very veteran player is coming in and how about Caleb Downs? I refer to that guy as a true freshman and look. the bullets are going to fly a lot faster against Texas, so this will be another chance for him to prove himself, but I wouldn't be surprised if Texas has a game plan to try to attack Caleb Downs or maybe you know, like the middle .
Last night at least at least I tried to go after Taryn Arnold because they want to be able to test that defensive secondary, but what we saw last night is a versatile, athletic secondary that can make plays and create turnovers, yeah, um, I, uh, I. I remember last year early in the Texas game, they took a lot of shots at Terry, so that's definitely something I'm looking forward to this weekend and Roll Tide and I really like the show and appreciate what you do. uh thank you so much books, I appreciate you calling in for a beautiful Nashville, okay, that was Brooks, uh, uh, calling from Nashville, if you guys, uh, we're late to the show, whatever I showed you, uh , the statistics, and you? guys let me know inside the comment box give me a thumbs up.
Did you see the Rick Stockstills press conference I posted? He had some really good things to say about Alabama. By the way, the call line is open if you want to jump to the front. line right now, I'll go over those stats because, let's see, I have the Pro Football Focus stats, but I also have the detailed game stats, let's see if I can get those. I do all the editing and stuff like that I mention it one more time so you can see the stats from last night the online call is open at 205-850 1994 it's a call to the online number Jalen milro uh last night 13 for 18 with 194 yards and three touchdowns uh you had him running for seven attempts for 64 yards jasonquillen 10 attempts for 43 yards roydell Williams seven attempts for 36 yards Justice Haynes four attempts for 29 yards Richard Young The Freshman five attempts for 19 yards and then Jan Miller four attempts for 14 yards collectively Alabama ran for 40 attempts for 226 yards Tyler Buckner first quarterback Off the bench 305 no touchdown passes but didn't run for a touchdown a run that went for nine yards um and you know, were you surprised to see Tyler Buckner come in uh ahead of um?
You know, Ty Simpson, I don't know, that was uh, that was interesting to me. Did you see Rick Stockstill's press conference? I'll play it for you real quick while I wait for our next call and then again tonight. Come back as we talk about Alabama in Texas, but let me play this part of Rick Stockster real quick because he offers a pretty good perspective on how to play Alabama. What did you see at Alabama's big press conference, courtesy of Middle Tennessee? Well, I got a obviously, they got a What a football team and you know, the first half, you know, we did some things, you know, offensively, uh, we had to move the ball a little bit, you know, make a pass and get to their side of the 50, but we have a lineman downfield. and backing this up and then the next possession would make you know, another little drive and we had a cutting block backing us up and you know they hit us pretty quick, you know, in the gates, you know it's 14, nothing, the end of the first quarter, but we held on, you know their quarterback is a great player and made some really special plays with his feet, you know he had a bad snap there and he just improvised and you know he got a touchdown from 25 to 30 yards. whatever and um, you know, but we held on, you know, it's 14 to nothing and then you know, the last three, four, five minutes in the second quarter, you know, they bombed us a little bit, uh, you know.
We drove there and had a chance to make it 14-3, 14-7, missed the field goal and then, you know, they hit us, you know, two quick ones, a couple of deep balls, you know, over us . going into halftime, you know 28, you don't know anything, but then they hit another one coming out of the second half early on, you know, they obviously had really good players and, but I was proud of our team and how we fought and how we competed, we played extremely hard and when you play against teams like this you have to play perfect and we didn't play perfect um and uh but I like that our team told them there, I told them in the last few minutes of the game that We're going to have a great team this year, great year, so I like it, I like our team, we just have to make some corrections on the mistakes we made tonight and get ready for another really good SEC team this weekend next weekend . so I'll open it up to you, there's specifically a part with me real quick, it's in Mark's sixth minute, where the coach stillit talks specifically about Alabama, let me get to that point, let's see, I think it comes here. uh, stick with me real quick.
I'm going to play right now. It's predetermined as there are plenty of new guys where they can. You know, play, play too. Know? So I'm trying to play as many guys and keep as many guys as fresh as they can. Playing at a high level, you know, but it was nothing because this group was not doing very well, everything was predetermined and we wanted to make sure that we met some representatives in their strong versions, what were your conclusions? impressed with their quarterback obviously very dynamic with his feet he throws the ball very well he has a great touch I think he's going to have a special year for him I thought he was really good his offensive line is huge, you know, and it's very well protected he for the most part on their backs runs downhill you know and they had good players that receivers can run and you know they have tight ends guys that are athletic and you know they are big targets there so they have a very very good offense. football team and to begin with, it starts with the number four, I mean, that's a pretty dead gun, special, okay, that was uh, that was coach stock still, um, we have some callers in the queue calls, we'll get back to him, it's a 337. and the 404 we'll take the 337, we'll start right now hey, you're on the line with Kyle Henderson, new home on the line with him, where are you calling him from?
Hey, I'm David from Louisiana, what's up, David? I need to get you on the hotline list, man, your takeaways after Alabama were a win, last night, what's on your mind after the game? I don't have many conclusions, except that the offensive line needs to step up a bit more. in the pass rush when we start to get stronger, faster competition, especially in the SEC, those guys are going to move a lot faster than Middle Tennessee did and they're going to be able to push the offensive line a little bit more, huh. If you looked at the size of the offensive line compared to the defensive line last night against Middle Tennessee, those guys came in last night, I'll give them some props, you know, even though they got destroyed, they just didn't have the depth. but I'll tell you what those guys came to play, they were flying last night and for the first quarter I was like, man, this is unexpected to see, but they're usually small teams that we don't hear much about. give us a little more offense sometimes starting early, but a lot of people, you know, one of the biggest things I saw last night, the reason I think Tyler Buckner ended up as the number two quarterback as of now is because he has more big-game playing experience when he's at Notre Dame.
I think that's why he was the number two quarterback last night coming out on the field, but the center needs these balls to break up a little better because there were a couple of them last night it was real low, they could have been turnovers and stuff like that. , but I saw the one where Tyler Buckner had the ball almost up to his ankles, picked it up, and then threw a dart at it. Last night I forgot who he was because I think he was the first. down and uh everyone's sleeping on Tyler, he's good, he's good, he's got some wheels too, the kid can keep running with uh, David from Louisiana, um, I think you're right, I think look, I don't think there are, so this week we learned that.
Buckner would be number two and I think a good point you make is that he has more experience in the game, but he is very athletic and I mean he clearly has a good arm, I mean the guy is certainly capable, there is no reason to do it . create a divide within the locker room and clearly Jayla Miro is the guy coming in week two, but I also saw some good things from Tyler Buckner, he's such a TY Simpson size we can't really even measure him. because he's limited at the end of the game, um Tyler Buckner, although David as Tyler Buckner is good, what else do you have?
I think we need to start controlling the offense more, uh, time of possession if you watched the possession talent last night. Yeah, Middleton Mississippi held the ball, you know, almost two minutes longer than Alabama did last night. It was uh, we held the ball for 29 minutes and three seconds, they held it for 30 minutes and 57 seconds, you know, it has to be us. The need in big games, like I've said, I've pushed so far, is when we get to these bigger games, these tougher opponents, time of possession is key, especially if it's a close game, you know last night you know not to. it was closed. not at all, you know, uh, but you know we had, you know, 226 yards passing and 208 yards rushing last night, which is a very well-balanced offense, you know, I was very pleased with the way the running game went, uh , the passing game was You know, really good, there was one where the pass interference should have been for a touchdown.
You know, it was great, we ended up scoring, but the penalties. I was very pleased with the penalties last night, we only had two. penalties for 19 total yards. I was very elated about it. I was praying all night even before the game. Boy, we don't need 500 yards in penalties. You know it would be terrible, but I hoped we would have more. There's time on the clock to possibly see Dylan come in and make four quarterbacks score touchdowns that have probably broken records and no one else has touched him, but it was amazing to see all three of them, number one, number two and number three, come in last night. and shine and four touchdown, you know, but as far as, on another note, hey, I'm going to give props to Coach Prime.
Y'all need to stop calling him a goat he's not even at the level of a goat now when he was in the NFL he was at the level of a goat yes but now only because he beat TCU who lost half of their football team last year, you know, it doesn't mean anything because they still have a glove, they still have order and USC Oregon. Utah State Washington State now, if they can win all those games, then you can play, you know, at that level, you know, be a great coach for the first time, first year at a new school, you know, but uh, that your son, he shook it yesterday. but he doesn't deserve any goat level right now, but other than that you know he was great, I just want to see more physicality next week against Texas, especially on the offensive line, we have to open more lanes for the running backs. to gain more rushing yards rushing yards uh the passing game looks great secondary aspect you know well last night they didn't take a lot of shots well i should have seen they took a lot of shots down the field last night um from What I could tell is that the defensive line they got, they put a lot of pressure on the quarterback, they had several tackles to lose last night against running backs, things like that, they look great, but next week will tell the story, you know, it's going to be. for it to be a physical game uh and all these texas fans that are probably in the queue down there commenting i know it was last night that texas was going to win by two touchdowns you just don't come to brighton to any stadium and just and win.
Alabama no matter who it is it could be the Green Bay Packers just don't come to Alabama and think you're going to walk all over Alabama yeah but anyway other than that brother uh. I'm going to let you go God bless everyone God bless the United States of America it was a great game Roll Tide everyone is tied up David thank you very much appreciate you calling from Behind Enemy Lines 404 we will get back to you in just a second I had a super talk. I don't like, uh, that Nick put Tyler over Ty. Tyler was drafted and he should have a chance to be the backup so we don't lose him, um man, you know, I don't know if it's just because he.
I started, that will mean Ty exits the program. I think if that continues to happen, it probably will. That's the world we live in, because you look at the quarterbacks Alabama has on the roster. Taylor milro Tyler Buckner Ty Simpson. Eli Holstein Julian says who is engaged to the number one quarterback. What we saw last night is a small sample of Buckner and Ty Simpson. I think you let that kind of number two go on and I think the coach will play. You know better than him. Can I say you have to, especially at quarterback, at every position, you need the number one player to play and this, at the end of the day, is business?
As soon as I want to say, that's what it is, so the best one has to play. and we'll see if Ty Simpson gets more opportunities in the future. We get where we're going with that, but you know, what's important is who's the best guy for the job, the best guys have to play, and as Coach Saban has said. Many times it is as if the players on the team know who the best players are. I love that he's like the players the players know and if you play sports at any kind of level you know who the best player is and you know when you're the best. the best player on that team so last night jaylee miller featured him kyle anderson bama soccer on youtube if you could thumbs up this video and subscribe too i am almost close to 90k subscribers and i want to get to 100 000 subscribers.
That would be incredible. This is what I do for a living with a full-time job. I really appreciate all the support. The guys did a great job last night at the postgame show that starts immediately after the game. You can watch Jaylee Miro's press conference below. the game coach sabins Coach Rick stockstill and we'll have a lot more content tonight at 6:30 I'll be talking about Texas versus Alabama that's where we start to turn the page to game number two and then Monday you have Coach Saban um at 12 pm and then player interviews at 1 p.m. You can find them here on our YouTube channel.
I'll have all of that organized so we don't stop at Bama football on YouTube. I have another caller in the call queue and we're off. Right now it's a 404. Hey, what's up? I appreciate you calling who I'm on the line with and where you're calling from. Good, Loraz. I appreciate you calling, man, what's on your mind after Alabama's win over Middle Well, first of all. I'm very excited about the team this year, um uh, I mean, I've been, you know, keeping up with you, you know, you train smoothly and you know, following and listening to everybody and, um, you know, because we haven't been able to. to get information on scrimmages, what happened, you know, we saw a little bit of it in one day and you know, that's keeping up with what everyone was putting out, the information that they were always putting out, you know, hey, you're always right. all you know i was hit on everything um i was a little disappointed in the running backs but not the running back so i can say the running game uh the running backs i know they are great but i think we um, I really was.
Hoping at least one of my running backs has hundred yard games, but I know we didn't open the playbook. I'm sorry we didn't open the playbook yesterday, we just had enough sample size, you know, just to get during that game and I know next week we'll probably see more of the Playbook, but I'd really like to see more of our running game Because that's what we always hoped for, you know, once we switched our offensive coordinator and we were Hoping to see more of the Run game. You know, I love the fact that we use our tight ends, not so much.
You know, we only gave them a small part, but we did use the tight ends. So let's also see what else there is. offense, our receivers catch the ball and throughout the champ and everything we were hearing about the drops, you know, the receipt was dropping the ball, we're dropping, he was dropping them last year, but in this game, you know , we saw the captures, they, eh. You know, here are some sacks that could have been caught, I mean some drops, a couple drops that could have been caught, but you know he put a little bit on the quarterback, but other than that, the offense looked good.
I was not surprised. I was not surprised at all by Jalen Miro at all, you know this because he knew the advantages of him. I saw the advantages of it, you know and that's why I like to see you go smoothly. I saw Bama from the inside. I saw Stephen, uh, landing in Alabama. I look at all of them because I like, I mean, I love the information that everyone posts, that they talk about very quickly. I don't even watch the main channels anymore because to me they just don't know what they're talking about. about Sorry, no, I'm coming home, I think that's why I get my information, but I, you know it's interesting because, as you know, look, there's a lot of guys that report on Alabama, especially on a national level, and Ni They're not even in Tuscaloosa and they don't go to practices, they don't go to facilities, they don't go to media opportunities like none of those guys are in the room, they all report to you from Nashville or Bristol Tennessee and it's like they have more validity , those guys like I tell you, there is a group that is physically here in Tuscaloosa, but most of the people that have a very broad audience are not in Tuscaloosa and they like when they say something it's like oh they know something that they are not, nor They don't even live here.
I'll go to the stadium right now. I go to the country house on Monday and that's what we do, butSometimes it's like when having people that have a higher platform gives them more validity, like Chris Lowe, look, that guy has a hotline to train Saban 100, but what's kind of annoying to us is that he's like Jalen Milro is going to get off to a really impressive start, right? Some of it is like we've been saying since this season ended, you know that's the way it is, so just because you know sometimes you have a bigger platform doesn't mean you're online or dialed, it just means you have a bigger platform. to talk, but I'm going to move on to my next caller.
I appreciate you calling, uh, calling anytime, I love Atlanta, it's always treated me very well and we'll get back to you next time, oh yeah, I'll be there. I'll be back tonight okay man see you mate yeah remember tonight I'll be back at 6:30 as we flip the page to Texas vs Alabama and we start at 6:30. I have Jeff Ketchum from Orange Bloods, if you like my personality. We'll love him because he literally doesn't give her any Fs. I think he'll just tell her what he is like. Injury report. Everyone asks about injuries. So we have Emmanuel Henderson, who we heard he used crutches.
We need to verify that. Jihad Campbell. To see if he's going to be probable or probable for the game against Texas, he was tested. I guess a week before the week one matchup. Malachi Moore came out last night and Jalen Key came out last night. We are waiting for updates and as soon as we have updates we will bring that to you right here at Bama Football on YouTube we had a super chat with our fans they are crazy. Miller Mill Road will be the guy, especially since he's starting to hit the deep balls and I see them showing they've got it.
Same thing, love is a field, yeah, look, well, first of all, Jalen Mill Road has gone completely crazy, call the hotline number, good idea is 205-850 1994, that's call the number, um, yes, Monroe went completely crazy and Chidori too. Sanders from Colorado, my goodness, that was something to watch, he sure did. Excellent here is the head coach Saban following the game if you haven't seen it you can watch the press conference but I will. I'll be right back here's Coach Saban and then I'll get more calls as we continue to break down Alabama vs. the middle here's the goat in person well I think uh um so I was really happy with the way we came out and played in this. game, so they responded to the bell the way we wanted them to.
There are always some shoddy areas that you obviously need to clean up, and we certainly have some of those and we'll work on it, but I thought the atmosphere was great, the fans were great, and I really thought the players did a good job, we did a good job on third down, they do a lot of things on offense, I think the defensive players did a good job adjusting and adapting, not giving up. Lots of big plays and you know, offensively we ran, we had good balance and did a good job of passing the ball, we made some explosive plays, we did a good job on third down, so, you know, pretty good, obviously we got the stuff what did we need. work that we will pay attention to and but I like the attitude of the team that I have a couple of guys hit.
I don't know the extent of his injuries. Jalen Key and Malachi more, but we'll see how it goes. They will be evaluated tomorrow and probably no sooner because you mentioned the explosive plays. I don't think you are one of your students with the ability to separate. No sorry, Rogers leaders you mentioned the explosive plays. What do you think of his ability to achieve separation? Well, they did a good job of opening up, as did you. I know they don't seem to disrespect these guys, they play hard and well, they have a good team, they do a good job coaching, they present a lot of problems for you, but we're going to have to part against a little different caliber or guy in the future, so that's going to be important and we'll continue to work on that and we'll understand it and I think we'll be fine, but I think the receiving group has gotten better.
I think there is better depth. I think there are more guys that can make plays. there's more trust so I'm pretty pleased with the way the group has developed it's specifically through my receivers because the first time why don't you talk again in the future? He was sitting out the first half, you know, I know you guys have a job to do and you know how much I love you and want you to help you do your job, but you know all that and they give you depth charts but I'm not going to to reveal what a guy did or It didn't help to put himself in a position where he shot the first half, but set up the first half.
We'll stay here with Nick Alvarez. What if he is the offensive line? He plays tonight and places in zip. They did a good job. I know I thought there were times when they did a lot of things early on, a lot of blocking sponsors, a lot of moves, so it makes it, you know, a little difficult. Sometimes, you know, I said before that their little, big, little, you know, they gave you something. bad plays and but I thought overall we did a good job we did a really good job protecting when we got sacked he ran back and blocked his guy so I thought they did a good job and I think you know.
We're going to have to have that kind of balance, that's the kind of balance that we want to have in the future, so we have to keep working on it because okay, that's the coach, the goat coach Saban and this is the goat that Elizabeth Reed is coming. to you from Elizabeth Reed Studio my name is Kyle Henderson the football band on YouTube 100 Super Chat thank you very much we appreciate it uh miss Reed good morning and Roll Tide really likes the aggressiveness of the defense even if it was against the middle last "I hope our offensive line will actually show up next week to stay on topic, but what do you think about Texas and Uga's performance yesterday?
Well, first of all, thank you Elizabeth, this is the study of Elizabeth Reed, also known as the study that Miss Reed has built. I'm from your Super Chat, so thank you very much, we appreciate it, you know, like I said earlier on the show, I didn't get a chance to really immerse myself in the Texas performance yesterday. I watched Colorado and TCU and then I I headed to the game, so I'm going to watch it before I talk to Jeff Ketchum tonight at 6:30, so I'll get back to you about that and Georgia sometimes, when I'm so knee-deep in college football.
I'm like I'm connected to Alabama and I want to make sure I'm laser focused, but I usually include other games, but I'll provide more context when I watch. You know, those two teams specifically play in Texas because, um, you. I know that's next on the list. I think you bring up a great point about the aggressiveness of the defense. We saw some really good tackles in open space. Caleb Downs was all over the place considering he's the freshman and he felt like he was out of position on one particular play, but I don't know if that was Middle Tennessee, it was a little bit of a weird play, he went up and made it with the ball down and, in fact, Caleb Downs, as a freshman, led Alabama's tackles.
Deontay Lawson played lights out last night, which is great for your inside linebacker. Spot um and then I think with um the offensive line uh they provided good price protection, but as you've seen on the show, a lot of people that you know want to see them improve in terms of the kind of quick push that you know. that they have um for the runners because we have all these talented runners, but in a sense it was kind of a runner by the Committee and I think that's what we'll see the rest of the way, but I mean, when you have a thousand pounds or more of beef up front, you know you should be able to put pressure on anyone and I think they're going to continue to provide that, you know, big power boost as we go forward, but there's going to be a big opportunity against.
Texas, we'll go to the phone lines and thanks Moody, also for the Super Chat, your opinion on Dial Court, will you be replaced by Texas?, maybe yes, I think Ferguson deserves a chance, we'll see what Eric Wolford does. what does it have to do with that offensive line and um I'm also curious because a lot of people were harping on Dow's court and look, the best players have to play, that court has been here for a long time, maybe it's better suited for the central position, but that is blocked. up by McLaughlin, so maybe I'll take Ferg there and we'll get back to the phone lines with 205.
Hey, you're on the line with Kyle Henderson, who I'm on the line with and where you're calling from my name. it's Tommy Tidwell I'm from Leeds Alabama what's up Kyle Henderson what's up man I missed your name my bad what's your name my name is Tommy I went to the Alabama game last night I did oh I appreciate it man and where are you calling from Tuscaloosa not Leeds Alabama it's okay, I got you, man, okay, you're in the game, I was in the game, uh, hey, first of all, I gotta ask you, Tom, when the lights go down and they go out, it's a The atmosphere is fire , true, yes, sir, it is.
Last night I lost my voice. Nick Saber said there was a big crowd and he was happy. I like how he asked him. I like how the media asks them questions. He exploits them. He is crazy. I have a couple of questions, yeah, a couple of questions for you, um, um, I know Malachi's account, Jalen King, Keith is hurt, Nick Saban hasn't mentioned anything about his performance, but you know you think they're going to play the Saturday night or what, um, no. I don't know, I mean, we're still waiting to see, you know, kind of an injury update on kind of a status update on some of these guys and if there's any status update, we'll get that information on Monday.
Um, you know they're pretty quick with injury recovery updates and if Saban knows that, that's what I respect most about Saban is that he's not going to try to hide injuries or whatever if you ask him directly. He'll tell you if the player is likely to be out and he'll address it on Monday, but those are some Marquee injuries with Jalen Key and Malachi Moore, if those guys are out, so we don't know anything else, all we know now with Jalen. Kia Malachi Moore is, those guys are out. I know it's been reported that Malachi Moore, um, you know, is going to be fine, but we haven't heard that from Saban, so we really can't.
I hate to speculate unless you have someone like I'm sure from the source, I'm just not against the manager and especially when he talks on Monday like he's telling us what's going to happen in terms of injuries, yeah I have a couple more. Jaylen Monroe looked great last night. throw the ball that Zoom to Jermaine Burton that long pass dude I got up on my sea boy through that I got excited about that look I mean everyone was like and you got this too if you're in the game like when he came back and did it let it go, it seemed like everyone held their breath and said: where is this ball going?
Is it in the money? and then boom touchdown boom touchdown boom touchdown because he had three of them. um, all the D balls also weren't like these short as art, you know, the run pass option reads like across the middle, no, they were all 25 yard deep balls to the left, to the center, to the right and they were all touchdowns and I think. uh you know, the people who were a little skeptical about his deep ball are feeling more comfortable today and of course now everyone's going to say we're going to do it against Texas well the opportunity will present itself and even the middle was like look I got to improve. and all that, all aspects of the game, so, but when he threw it up, like the people, you, the crowd went silent and then it exploded, yeah, night games are awesome, yeah, one more question, I'll leave you hang up the phone. because I know you have a lot of people, Kyle Henderson, our defense looked very good.
I was impressed this year, Kyle Kevin Steele was. I think he's the guy for Nick Saban. I look at it's a little flavor of the defense, but in terms of doing your job, just aggressive, creating turnovers, rushing the passer, stopping whatever Run Middle Tennessee had, they did all that and now we're going into a game. where is a completely different caliber. I like the caliber because that's what Coach Seibon uses, but what the defense did what they were supposed to do a player I really want you to see in the next game 34 Q Robinson him in 41 Braswell in Rifle so we're all talking about Dallas Turner I saw Dallas Turner a couple of times I do some things that are the first round, but Roswell and Robinson, those guys, I mean, Brazil played a lot better than I thought, I was going to play with a lot more athleticism than I saw last year and then Q Rob is just flying at the quarterback that's why you can't tell if they're starters or not like Alabama has more than one starter that they can rotate into a lot of guys uh Q Rob is a beast uh anything else Tommy why do we have you on the line no that's that bro I just want to say Roll Tide and tell Nick Saban we're gonna beat that babysitter this year brother, it's okay, I appreciate it, man, take it easy, we'll talk to you, we got a three, three, fourand a 205 within the comment. my name is Kyle Henderson i come from beautiful Tuscaloosa Alabama that was Tommy from Leeds he was at the game last night if you were at the game last night let me know inside the comment box um the stadium like when the lights went on and Those red lights come on, man, there's no better atmosphere than here in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
I tell you and look, I would say that there was what they said was the attendance. I know I probably have it on my stat sheet. They say it's over I'm sure it was over 80 um there was like you know some sporadic seats that were open I mean it's Middle Tennessee um but the next game is about to go to another level so fact, like the media the way the media works is uh oh roll tide uh you from germany i appreciate you coming um i have friends in stuttgart and cindelfigen and uh you know because there is a big mercedes factory not far away from uh Tuscaloosa actually in between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham so I made a lot of friends from Germany so I'm always getting something good oh they said last night it was a hundred thousand that's what they said I mean it'll be a hundred thousand for this. next game, but I don't know if it was clearly 101 uh 100 last night um okay uh let's get back to the phone lines three three four let's do it hey thanks for being patient on the line with Kyle Henderson at home along with him where are you? calling you from hey uh Javier from Montgomery Alabama what's up Javier I appreciate you calling this morning man what's on your mind take it off oh man uh not much I appreciate the show have a great show um I really liked it a lot when I saw it from Alabama last night, um, the defense looked very good.
I think the defense looked better than I expected. I really think it's because I don't think we've had Elite linebacker play since, I don't know. when 20 2017 18. come out there and oh go ahead Javier finishes man oh yeah I think I think Elite linebacker play is so important it's like Deontay Lawson is really good. I like Trashman in the middle, like he just looked, he looked a lot better like the linebacker was flying toward the ball and, uh, no disrespect to him, I was told he was a great play-caller, I guess, or signal tracker. , but I didn't like it, I didn't see the whole sensation and I flew towards the ball and saw. a lot of speed on the wing and it's like these guys have it and it's like it's different, it's like it makes the team look very different, I'm sure everyone remembers the Reuben Foster days, like when you make a pitch, You have the possibility of getting exhausted every time and it was like we lost that aspect of football, it was like our linebacker game was so festive, I like what I'm seeing from the new kids' secondary, it looks good, I say it, I get it, but I really hate how many starters we play at the point, how many starters we have on the playing team and it's like, you know what I noticed last night, so on a punt running down the field it was Roy Dale Williams, um , TRUE. like in punt coverage and Roy Dale said it was like, look, he loves to play football and those already started, so let me ask you this, Javier, did you think it was a target call when Kool-Aid got hit in the helmet? and uh we talked to Kool-Aid after the game, he looked a little, uh, shaking right after, uh, but yeah, I think so, that was definitely talking about how we were all surprised when he came out and it was like you know.
Not aiming, but you know, I'm glad Kool-Aid is okay. Definitely took a look, but a little lit. In that second half you have your starters and Coach Saban likes these guys to have four quarters. I know some of us are like that pulling now, but you know, that's saving the team, what else do you have Javier on the line? uh, I will say that I'm on a specific call, although it was like that. I'll be honest, I don't think that guy was being dirty, I actually think he was just someone pushed him in the back, someone pushed him in the back and it was like a drive to demolish Kool-Aid, so I would say I don't think he was perfectly dirty, I just think it was a bad circumstance that a guy pushed him. back and all that, but I think I like them, I like wide receivers.
I think the wide receiver will be a lot better because we were young and inexperienced last year, plus Jermaine's load, he was on jokoy, I guess that was it. There was a lot of inexperience and Corey wasn't a crazy feature the year before and then, uh, I know people talk about Zachariah Branch USC, but I think because of the parents, the comparison to the speed, well, Isaiah Bond is very similar to him, if you look. In what he did in high school, his track numbers are there exactly because he holds the record. I think he had like he led the nation in the 200 his senior year, which is ridiculous, but he.
I think he's one of the fastest people in the country as well, so I think we'll see a lot of him this year. I think he's going to be a really, really important player for us this year. I really like it and definitely online. I think you know they're trying to get together, but there are some things that don't add up. I think running the ball is like there's always one guy that comes free when we run the ball, it's like you're not setting it right so I think it's time to put them together so I think they'll eventually come together but hey man, I appreciate you taking my call and here we go, all good, Roll Tide two, Javier, I appreciate it. man, it's okay, family, it's okay, we've talked about the middle, we've talked about this game, it's a 24-hour rule, you celebrate it, you enjoy Sunday with your family, we start tonight at 6:30.
