Filming on the film took 84 days when the film was completely finished in late January 1966. Actually 24 days longer than planned, a large portion of the film was shot at the old Tucson Studios, west of Tucson. , Arizona, and some of it was also filmed in Utah. Now, some of the footage from this film was later incorporated into the opening montage of the final John Wayne film.
