Jun 02, 2021
Sam, I'm so fucking upset, jeez, I hate when you're angry. I just watched Harry Potter. Know? There was no blood in that movie. Magic is very dangerous and very deadly. And Harry Potter really held his own through all of that. He's fine, yes. Buy that, I mean, these spells are like some kind of high level magic, even that kid who was knocked unconscious hit his head on the ground. Nothing should be more violent than a gun. It can make people explode. You can turn them into balloons. You can transform them into. animals against the will of him people are supposed to be dying left and right.

my name is mary with mary

potter

and i have a magic wand this is what i didn't understand about harry potter which was like okay we have a magic school it's nice magical antics but then literally the terrorists They attack her and like killing people and refusing to close the school, it's very dark the way they describe things in these books, so I'm surprised they didn't put any of that violence into the actual fights, I mean the people get hit in the face-off and get knocked out and stuff, but there's no blood or guts or anything like quidditch games, it can be lethal like the kids are almost dying, but look he's dead, even in the book, the Quidditch is described as a deadly sport, so there's a big A little moment here with this photographer, wow, that's perfect, you're just going to freeze him so he doesn't crouch and he's just going to crop them out, like, just in some classic like, Are you getting someone to spell for you, but how? guts, yeah, we could get creative with that, not only does it need to be like a spell, guts, like a spell, like an actual spell where you grow a boot out of your side, but it's like intimidation or something because they have some Pretty silly things. spells in harry potter i feel like we could really milk that one its on reddit so i have a crazy idea that matt and i created together draco malfoy basically goes furry, likes it paralyzes it in a little basketball shape and starts dribbling it like under the legs and stuff and he's like going to the end of the table and like a trapdoor opens and a basketball hoop comes out and then he just jumps up and dunks it into the basketball hoop and then all the little kids with their foam.

The fingers are like it's going to require a full 3D reconstruction of that area, so what I'm going to do is roughly model that scene, give it a throat slap and some textures and then there's a lot of random kids in this scene and I want to be able to create some new shots so I have to fill them in completely, so what I've been doing is searching for a Harry Potter robe costume on Google Images and I find similar images to Amazon for these robe costumes. and I take it and then I plug it into pie fudd, which is an open source 2D image to 3D model converter, you give it this image and it spits out a very wacky but usable 3D model and I slapped our 3D scans of our heads in the students we have Dean we have Clint we have me we have Ren we have Nick there uh forming the Hogwarts student body and if it's like a crowd full of little young people you won't be able to tell, yeah so I'm making a wall of spikes in lego harry potter so the kid is a little kid and he's trying his best to do his best spell on harry and he turns harry into lego harry potter and he's like oh shit I'm a lego and his head just pops and like lego blood starts shooting out, so that's the first one and then the second one is from the same scene that peter is doing, one of the teachers is destroyed by Snape and he goes flying and I want to get to face him like a wall of spikes, so he basically flies off into this giant wall of spikes.

If you don't think there's enough violence, what I'm going to do is go to the Quidditch match and that's going to be a violent disaster. The kids are going to be brutally murdered. I'm really excited to see everyone, so yeah, that's always the best part. but hagrid, this is platform nine and three quarters, there's no such thing, hey, ren, oh my god, are you okay, why would you? Do that buddy, I'm on a mission trying to find platform 10 and two thirds. I heard it's a magical place where your renders are instant. Did Sam tell you about this?
we made harry potter r rated
Yeah, Sam told me all about it. Yes, it's one of these walls. a good while, while I'm going to look for that I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and tell you all about Squarespace, who is today's sponsor, what are you doing trying to find the platform ten to two thirds where my renders are instant? What square footage does number one customer service have? Oh, it wasn't that wall. We will find. I'm going to try this. Wait, wait, wait, wait, we already tried that wren. Yes, you're right, I don't want to try. This one though, Squarespace has a huge variety of templates that make customizing your website super easy, as opposed to finding this damn platform, maybe it's been covered in paint, oh, that's a perfect cover-up, okay, Dude, it's definitely this type of wall, I have a good feeling.
This is fine before you go through the portal, although Squarespace allows multiple contributors so you can have your entire team access your website and contribute with different levels of permissions. It's great because teamwork makes the dream work. On the portal, but hey, at least on Squarespace you can be sure that you own all the content you publish. Well, I think I finally know where it is, but the good thing is that Squarespace has a traffic overview that gives you information on the top traffic sources. your website, okay, I think this is, no, no, that, it wasn't, I'm sorry, nico, you're okay, wasn't that a ten and two-thirds platform?
Yes, it's right there, you just have to go through that wall. Well, I think I can do that, so guys, all you have to do is go to squarespace.com quarter crew and you'll get 10 off your first domain or website. It's pretty incredible. I can feel his presence. It's right here. I'm going to jump, that's it. That's it, I can feel it good, I can feel it like I don't feel any of the other walls, you ready, yeah, what the hell did you see that? So for one of my scenes here, I'm doing quidditch, now quidditch should be a deadly sport plus kids should die for a sport where you literally fly on a broomstick and hit people with bats and stuff.
I'm doing this scene where harry and malfoy are chased by a rogue bludger in the movie colin creevy, she's taking a picture. As Harry flies past him, this boy ducks and narrowly escapes death. He wanted to change that. What if our sweet little collin won't bend over? How do you decapitate a child? So first I had to make a clean plate and then I used it. the puppet tool just to give him some movement back and then he needed a lot of blood. You see all these blood shots here and a sneaky little trick I used to get the brains working.
Basically I just use cc shatter only in the 2d. image of his head so you add motion blur to it and it just looks like little brain splatters so you can see I've also traced his head back to the bludger to do this I had to create a pretty gnarly looking head this is our horrible Boy, he looks like Peter, yes, yes, he looks like me when he was a baby, so the wind would affect his hair and his little bits that just hang down to encourage that effect. I applied a puppet tool and a bunch of dots that are on the outside and inside, I also applied a movement expression, it just sells that kind of momentum, they are images of death, that's death quidditch for you, This is also what Harry Potter is for, you are Draco Malfoy you face. against harry potter and this little guy has been giving you trouble since day one oh harry potter is so special oh it's like he's a malfoy malfoy you know I have a bloodline son over the summer you've been playing a lot of basketball and so on You have this spell that will make a basketball hoop emerge from the dueling table and then you will shoot Harry with a spell that will turn him into a basketball.
You're going to dribble Harry down the court and then you're going to run and then don't take him right to the rim, it's taking me back to my basketball days when I was better than everyone when I was dunking on all those little Vietnamese kids, let's calibrate you, uh, calibrate you, let's go in. Your straight pose moving, shake it, okay Draco, are you ready? Oh, I'm ready, oh, you're ready, three, two, one action, man, I don't know what that mocap data is going to look like, like it's pulled out pretty hard, okay? I'm recording come on whoa recording three two one action that's the one it's perfect it's perfect it's

rated

I was worried that this wasn't

rated

enough and this takes it over the edge oh ren thank you this is perfect good enough rated r harry potter what the hell am I going to do do?
I have this idea that is not quite qualified but I am going to try to make it as qualified as possible I want to turn harry potter into lego harry potter which to me is terrifying to be turned into a piece of plastic you no longer have elbows no more you have knees you just have a hairstyle his head shoots out and then little bits of blood start coming out of the hole in his neck and then he just faces the soles to the ground and he starts shooting blood everywhere. Griffin actually put together some super legit Harry Potter heads for me and they're all different states of what he's feeling at the moment, but yeah, I just hand-animated a little Lego guy. cinema 4d now from here i have to light it so it looks like the movie scene look at the original scene and really study it and ask yourself where the lighting is coming from and if you look closely you can see it's dimly lit he's standing on this grid and They're shooting a big soft light from under the floor, so I know I'm going to do exactly that in 3D.
I have this big old area light down here that shoots light from below the ground, but if you look at the footage as well, you can also see that it's lit from above and by adding these lights, these hair lights really add to your render and make make it look really good, so I have these two lights on the left and right, so now I have successfully illuminated my Lego character to make it look like the real Harry Potter in the real scene. Now all I have to do is animate it. I actually filmed myself doing this move.
This is something I learned from Alex on our animator reaction show and this is. something he does throughout his entire career while filming himself and then animating based on that reference, so I basically filmed myself as Lego Harry Potter as a reference and then from there it's just keyframe animation, manual animation, frame by frame, to get this natural. feeling look out of this I used dynamics to get the head out I gave it a little bit of force upwards now from here the last thing I have to do is make this really gory so I wanted to keep everything based on legos this little translucent red disk Actually, it's a Lego piece and I'll have them shoot them from an emitter that's attached to Harry's torso and it's spreading all over the floor, giving him a little bit of blur and a little bit of noise to compose it a little bit. a little better in the scene, I'm excited for peter's shot, that's all.
I mix up the petrificus shot, so lauren nico and clint actually just reviewed this shot in the specialist react because it's a pretty crazy stunt, like this person is literally falling, just like you. We're looking forward to that in a future stunts and reactions episode with Lauren, who's quite into the Mandalorian. The idea here is that Neville is frozen and when he falls he shatters, so the way the dynamics work in Cinema 4D is to basically press play. and it reproduces the dynamics, but there is some noise in the system intentionally, so every time I simulate this it is a little different, so basically all I am doing here is simulating over and over again trying to get different types of results mainly I'm just trying to get a nice looking final image, like one where the skull is looking straight at the camera, that's not bad, the little foot bounces there, at least the skull is facing the camera and the foot

made

a a little funny but it's not ideal there's a lot of skin like Neville's blocking his empty skull so I'm going to rephrase that cash cake so clearly again if you want to bake a party cake yeah have you seen Dean?
You have no idea what I do. I'm talking about baking a pretty cake, little John, breaking it down, breaking it down, let me see you back it up, so yeah, that's what baking in Cinema 4d is like, oh the pie, it's always the, love the pie, there's only one thing on the pie . quite nice, but there is a lot leftto finish this shot, so I'll try to see if I can project the actual texture of it on the film into the geometry and then I'll try to replicate the lighting of the scene that I'm very excited to see the classified art from Harry Potter.
Sam has been working very hard all week. This is not Harry Po. This isn't the video, but I always make sure they put 100 on everything, making an R-rated franchise is a really big task, I'm really hopeful that this is going to be special. I know Peter has been up late with these shots for the last few nights. It's been exhausting knowing that he's working so hard, so you know, I just hope it turns out well, so we have this damn dunk sequence. I got carried away with the idea of Draco dunking Harry because I thought it was so funny and I forgot it was supposed to be rated R, but turning into a basketball is inherently a bit R rated because if you get compressed into a little ball you'll go to break the bones you're going to have internal bleeding there's going to be like blood dripping through your clothes and stuff it's not going to be a pleasant experience so I just leaned towards that but before we got there we had to get the 3D models of Draco and Harry and for those, I was very lazy, I just googled the 3D model of Draco Malfoy and downloaded the first thing that came up.
Same with Harry, but for once we have a close relationship. of Draco's face and this is like a video game 3D model that looks really wacky, so what I ended up doing was taking a photo of Draco's face from the movie and projecting it onto his 3D model in the correct perspective of Shot from the movie, so when you see it in motion it still looks a little weird, but it works as a close-up, so we have Draco set up and ready to go. So what I did was take Ren's motion capture data and slap him.
There I cleaned it up a bit and it was ready, so we have our nice motion capture, but we can't really capture the motion of a basketball, so I had to animate it by hand, which was actually surprisingly the most challenging part of this. process because Ren was doing all these fancy dribbling moves, I didn't know where the hell the basketball was supposed to be, so I had to have my friends sit with me and say, "Okay, here I was putting it between my legs." and here". I was passing it between my back and it took me quite a while to animate that bouncing ball with my hand, so I'm really happy with how this scene turned out.
I think it's pretty funny, but what will bring it to the next one. The level is the sound, we have some guttural screams. This may not be R-rated enough, but with the right screams we can take it to the limit, so let's do that three two, ah, yeah, that's fun, that's cool, that's so intense. I don't know, I've been really stressed about this because I know these guys have been working really hard, but I haven't really been checking in on them, so I honestly have no idea what's in store for this. direction and if nico doesn't like this, I'm going to be in big trouble.
Yes, Harry Potter is over, Harry Potter is over, I think we're ready, there's no reason why he wouldn't get what he wants today, so let's play this video for Nico and he's going to go crazy. I'm excited. Oh, You have your wand ready, are you ready? I really, really hope you like what I did for you, yes, I hope you don't disappoint me. Meet Harry Potter Assaulted Oh wow, I'll fight Petrificus, you're a little scary sometimes, that looks great, yes, it looks so good, impressive, it's one of the most useful spells in your arsenal, it's kind of of a magician's bread and butter.
Really, then, come on, then Nigel, try your best, oh, wet it, heady shakiliosis, scoliosis, wow, diagonally, I think you, especially you Sam, did a great job making Harry Potter much more of what I wanted to see when I think of magic and wizard fights. Like I want to see people break their bones while they turn them into a basketball and dunk, I want to see kids shatter on pottery while their skeleton remains intact and all the blood disappears, you know, I didn't expect memes did yours on this and that was delicious, um, the amount of CG was really great, this is my Harry Potter, this is all super cool, you guys really pulled it out of the stained glass window in the cafeteria hallway, no, you guys did a great job and if you enjoyed watching this.
