Seas #TeamSeas

Apr 20, 2024
Oceans cover a significant portion of the Earth and being derived from fish, it is no surprise that humanity really loves the oceans. It allows us to cool off in summer, produce vital oxygen and, like whales, can often be found below sea level. Therefore, we have learned to treat the ocean with the care and respect that such a delicate and essential system for life deserves. That's what I would have said if this were a parallel universe where things made sense. Unfortunately, we live in the other universe... Because the ocean is going through a rough patch right now, creators MrBeast and Mark Rober have launched a campaign known as #TeamSeas.

It's a sort of sequel to the #TeamTrees initiative, which successfully raised over $20,000,000 to plant over 20 million trees in 2019. But this time, the goal is to raise $30,000,000 to remove 30 millions of pounds of trash and plastic from the ocean, beaches and rivers. That's why almost everyone you follow seems to have developed a sudden passion for oceanography. In the grand scheme of things, eliminating 30 million pounds of trash and plastic is not going to change the world. Billions of pounds of trash are dumped into the ocean each year. However, it will raise awareness about an issue that affects each and every one of us.

And maybe, with any luck, that awareness will inspire those with the power to make lasting change. If not today, maybe tomorrow. Who knows. I think it's at least a worthy cause, so I'll donate $1,000. If you would like to donate yourself, you should go to www.team
