Why Dark Academia Is The Modern Renaissance

Mar 19, 2024
For the last two days I've been thinking about something that was quite interesting and it made sense to me to make a video about it because I have some beautiful images to show you some interesting things that Janna had. captured sitting in front of this church and there's like music playing there, it could be a chelan but I'm not sure, so a quick summary he stayed at Jay's apartment with his girlfriend Echo and yesterday we went to the contemplation garden after all. The whole time I was there and the whole bus ride, I was thinking about this idea of โ€‹โ€‹revival, so to speak, because back in the 14th century there was the idea or the concept of Studia Romanidades or this, you know, this study of the humanities. which reemerged around the 14th century and which directly affected the rest of history and Renaissance literature was directly affected by these efforts to recover ancient texts, for example, the quintillions of ethical texts, for example, ancient texts such as the Iliad of Homer and the apparitions of the Odyssey, comedies, the tragedies of Seneca, all of these.

Ancient texts throughout the 14th century through the 16th century are having this kind of resurgence, you know, everything from the original Latin texts to the scripts of plays from a certain place. There was a real culture in Europe at that time. who recovered and systematically studied the original texts and the art changed forever and if you read any of the literature, for example, the best example, uh Christopher Marla or his contemporary William Shakespeare, which you know everyone knows Shakespeare, in these pieces of literature there has always been this. I know it's a subtle nod to the ancient text, to the Latin base text, and that I like Greek texts, but this revival is what I've been actively thinking about recently because it's a parallel to what's going on with this whole academy thing.

This whole obsession with

dark

academia

for me as an optimist.
why dark academia is the modern renaissance
I think this is really like a parallel to what happened during the

renaissance

. What is entering social discourse right now as a phenomenon is that people are currently obsessed with the aesthetics of old things. but then you know, literature filters through there, but right now it's mainly about aesthetics, but I feel like if we give this a few decades, for example, to filter through, because this idea of โ€‹โ€‹digging into texts older because it already exists this is just the superficial manifestation this is just the beginning of everything right now it's about clothes the dark sweater big old and dusty libraries with the passage of time because these texts, for example, you like shakespeare like homer if you like charles dickens if like some even older stuff, like if you really want to go back to the original sources because this phenomenon had already entered the public consciousness over time, these texts will become more and more ubiquitous, you will see these little pockets of community that are are going to stop talking about Byron are going to start talking about how they loved Keats, although they may not have a perfect understanding or interpretation of those texts, however, there are still more people reading and that is really well, he's kind. sort of like when you were younger maybe you read like a Charles Dickens novel because your teacher made you read it, but years later when you go back to the novel, you realize it was one of the best books I've ever read.
