EV Charging @LAXairport1 Using @PowerFlexEnergy Was Not So Great

Mar 18, 2024
Hi, I'm Joy, two weeks ago I went to New York to work. If you've been watching my videos on this channel, you'll remember that in the past when I traveled, I would simply leave my Tesla Model 3 parked at home and unplugged. for up to 32 days, however, in August when I was booking this trip, I learned that Los Angeles International Airport has a project underway to install a total of 1,300 electric vehicle chargers in their parking lots and 800 chargers are already up and running so I decided to give it a try and see how it works according to the news.

This project at LAX is one of the largest electric vehicle

charging

station programs in the United States. All 1300 chargers should be installed and operational by the end of this year. Chargers are supplied by Power Flex. A subsidiary of EDF, a French energy company, the total cost of

using

the charger includes a two-dollar connection fee and a

charging

fee of 45 cents per kilowatt hour, all in addition to the garage parking fee. I want to mention that until 2020 before Covet Hit LAX already had free level 2 chargers in docked terminals and I used them when I went to pick up friends.

More Interesting Facts About,

This was the first time I left my card parked at the airport for an extended period of time. I'm a little sad that the airport no longer offers free EV charging, but I understand that there are a lot more EVs in Los Angeles now, so the airport should take advantage of the opportunity to generate revenue from EV charging if need to park at the airport for more than one day. We strongly recommend that you reserve a spot online. I went to EV parking.flylix.com to reserve my EV parking spot. Once you are on the website, enter your departure and arrival time and date along with the airline you will be flying with and it will show it to you.

The nearest parking lots with electric vehicle charging spaces available. You can also see how much you will pay for parking during my trip. I paid a total of $85 for four days to park in the garage, which worked out to about $21 a day one time. When you make your reservation, you will receive a confirmation email along with a QR code to scan at the garage entrance before arriving at the airport. I didn't know what to expect because I had never heard of Power Flex chargers and hadn't owned them. Experience

using

it when I approached the charger I found that it is not as easy to plug and play as Tesla superchargers.

I first had to download the powerflex app, set up the account and transfer funds to the power flex wallet before you can charge once you plug it in you need to use the app to scan the QR code on the charger to start the charging session. This entire process took me approximately five minutes to understand and complete. I used the level 2 adapter that came with my model 3 for the Power Flex. Initially when I tried to plug it in, I realized that the charging cable was not long enough. I had to move my car further until the tire hit the concrete block so I could plug it in.
I hope Power Flex can fix this problem in the future by installing a longer cable after my car was plugged in and I verified the charging session had started. I ran to my door because my car's charge status was not low after arriving at my hotel in New York, my Model 3 was already charged to my normal 90 percent and the charging session stopped. I want to mention that I left Sentry mode on while parked at the airport, as you may remember from my Sentry mode battery drain test videos, enabling Sentry mode would drain my battery about one percent every three. to four hours, depending on how busy my car's surroundings are, I was able to remotely view my car's surroundings periodically during the trip by checking all the camera's live feeds directly in the Tesla app;
However, due to the heavy consumption of Sentry mode, my battery began to drain during the four days it was parked. The bad thing about the powerflex application is that there is no way to start a charging session remotely If the previous session had ended on the day it was I was leaving New York and noticed my battery had dropped from 90 percent to 84 percent. I wanted to charge my car back up to 90 before flying back, but I couldn't do it because I couldn't scan the QR code on the charging station. I hope Powerflex can fix this problem, for those who have to.
I park at the airport for weeks with Sentry mode enabled. They can restart their charging session remotely when the battery starts to run low. In the end, my total airport loading cost was just under $20 including the connection fee, which wasn't too bad, however, my overall cost. The LAX EV charging experience with the power Flex was not

great

due to the fact that the charging cable needs to be longer and the app needs to give the user the ability to start charging remotely until they resolve these issues. This is still a good solution for those who don't live near the airport and need to leave their EVS portion in the airport garages when traveling personally for me.
I don't think I'll park my car long-term at the airport again while traveling. I will continue traveling, I hope. This video has given you useful information on how to charge in the LAX parking lots. Thank you very much for watching. See you next time and God bless you.
