Mar 20, 2024
Hey guys Ryan, today's video is going to be a sizing video and it's about making this look and doing that from this, enough people have asked about the

ball

in the

cage

so I thought I'd go and do a video and it's quite nice. outside I think we'll do it outside, okay, all

cage

d, this is the first

ball

on Kate. I made it pretty hard, but I don't really care if it's hard or not, and the artist and all that, so the first step is the initial step. The first thing we do and I just block out where I want things, so I'll use my finger as a guide.

No, you know, I'm not measuring it, but you know, close enough, okay and I'm going to do it. This is a lot smaller than the last one because well, it's a video and you're going to get pretty bored if you keep this up, there's a lot of wood to remove here so I think I'll not only make it smaller, but I'll probably just do it quickly. ahead a lot of this make some cuts, I hope you're still interested, if not, feel free to fast forward, no problem, you know these lines. No, I'm not specializing. I didn't have to do it. be perfect, you know, after all, it's being carved, it's not something super fancy, it can't be carved or something, maybe I shouldn't say that, okay, so that's the first step, block everything out and I can talk more on that, but I think.

More Interesting Facts About,

whittling a ball in a cage...

It will become obvious once we start, so the second step is to make a bunch of stop cuts. Now the stop cuts are just cuts that are usually straight down and that you cut for the second cut, so it's kind of like the first cut and I like to go around and just make the stop cuts where all the lines that I placed are. now. One of the reasons I like to do that is because these lines, these pencil marks will disappear just because you're using them. or you're going to be working there, you accidentally cut one or yeah, eventually you're going to cut them off anyway, so I'm going to put these stop cuts in and they're a little bit more permanent. that the pencil marks, okay, so once I place those stop cuts, I can go in and start cutting basically the second cut that I'm making, I'm cutting a path up to that stop cut, cutting up there and stopping it.

I'm not just going to cut up there, so I'm going to do it every which way, I'm going to hear the wood cracking as you're getting to that stop, cut, stop point, you know, sometimes you have to stop anything, um. I have to cut that line okay so basically what we have here is a good start just go ahead and do this on every four sides it's a pretty good representation so I'm going to do it on each of the four sides here of that way. I have to worry about number one erasing my lines and accidentally erasing my line and then I have a good reference point that will be there until the rest of the things end well, here we go, okay, so we get to this point.

I'm going to cut out a lot of this because it's going to be incredibly boring for you, but basically to get a circle you just cut off all the hard edges, you know, see the square edges, cut them off and eventually I'll have a circle if you were bored during the first part of that video, you're going to be really bored watching me cut this circle anyway the reason I left it like this for a long time and didn't cut it at first is because I like to have something to hold on to while I'm cutting, so I'm going to go down and I'll cut this on the table saw and finish it off a bit.
You see some sticks here and there so you can cut a little. more, but I'll show you what it looks like when I cut it, I'll be right back, okay, this is what's left, so I cut it and we're almost done, you know, here's the old one, there's a little dust in the basement, here there's the old one and here's the new one and like I said, I'm going to wait a little longer to clean it up, but yeah, that's it so I hope you enjoyed the video. I probably won't do another one of these. I don't like. doing things more than twice anyway, so we'll see, maybe one day I'll do another one that has a good day.
