VECTRIC BOX CREATOR GADGET LESSONS LEARNED

Apr 03, 2024
come on let's build something good welcome to ban woodworking today let's take let's make use of more I'm trying to put some of my scrap material to good uses and I have some of this plywood and it's three quarter inch plywood and it was from my forms that I used in my workshop project. Now what I want to do is check these dimensions 39.5 by 48 48.75. Okay, everything's fine now. What I want to do is make some boxes, so we're going to go up here to press the device and go to the box

creator

and we're going to see that our width is going to be 20.75 and that allows half an inch on each side for the guide bearings, the depth of the slides will be 18 and we are leaving about an inch behind the drawer and the height will be 9 inches, the width of the joint is 1.5, we don't need a lid so we are going to leave that unmarked but we will mark all others.

Let's make square eyelashes. You can do dovetails, but I'm going to do square lashes. Okay, flat top and we have the tool right there. 46176 I'll show you a picture of that right here, let's go ahead and press OK, that did exactly what I wanted it to do, so there's the bottom right, the two sides, actually the four sides, front back, okay, a Next we will go to verify. that tool path and we're just going to check it out, preview it, it should do tabs, so let's preview the tool path visible to leave the tabs, oh yeah, you can see the tab in the middle right there and then you can see one over here, I want there.

Okay, this looks good so you can see how easy it was, now all we have to do is take this to the CNC machine and cut it out. See you there. Okay, so right off the bat, the first one I do is A mistake is now i x y z and this is an eighth of an inch bit. I'll show you a picture right here with a mana. Now this is 20 times the speed and basically the mistake I made was that I decided to move. I am back. in the drawing and moved the templates in the material and then basically went ahead instead of using the

gadget

tool path, I just took those, created a new profile, two paths and you can't do that, no, it's not going to be like that.

I'm not going to go down the same route as the device tool, now what it did was cut all the sizes perfectly, but the female and male square tabs were wrong and you'll see that when I take it to the bench. but these are the things that are important to you, you know that failures create success, so you have to have some failures and then you see what works and what doesn't work. The other thing I did was the material. I knocked down all the material. with plastic nails with my vinyl nail gun and that worked great, the only problem was that some of the pieces didn't cut all the way because the material wasn't as flat as I thought.

I was on the bench here anyway, the Avid CNC does a very good job of cutting them. The Amana cutter worked great. Now here I take them all out. I picked them up and noticed a couple of spots that didn't work. I didn't cut it all the way through, so I use a flush cut bit and just run it through my Jasm router and just clean them up a little bit. Now at this point I didn't realize that these things didn't fit so when I put them all together and I noticed there was a quarter inch gap at all the joints and that's because I read that I made the tool myself same, so this time I did the same thing with the box

creator

, except I didn't make any changes. just let the creator of the box do what he wants to do and that's the way you have to do it now, so these things take about, I would say 45 minutes each, because this is basically this video.
I cut two, the first one. one was a mistake and then I cut this one which was perfect so whatever you do you're learning and now I know you know don't try to change the wheel. Another thing I did was reset My z height, um, was at an eighth of an inch and I reset it to a quarter of an inch, I think, or half an inch, so when it went up and moved to start a new cut, it would have a lot of clearance because I broke down a little. That way, I and I believe that it was actually on this piece of wood right here when it gets to the end where it finally cuts it, um, it goes to the plywood had lifted up a little bit and when the plywood lifted up a little bit Drill Bit in the top left corner right there, when the drill bit went to move it, it broke and brother, it broke right there, so I ended up putting a new drill bit in to make sure all the material was down and then and then I cut it again here, I'm re-cutting it with a new drill bit and everything is fine, so this drawer, this second one, came out perfect and, um, they take a little, I mean, of course, this is three-quarter inch plywood. which normally you would probably do some drawers with half an inch, but since I had three quarters and I wanted to put it to good use and I needed drawers in my store, I decided to go ahead and use some of this. three rooms and make some drawers.
Now I have another piece of plywood under this one, like the sacrificial one, so that way I don't cut into my T-Track scrap board. I set the timer here. To show you how long it takes to make these, it's basically two drawers and it took about an hour and 44 minutes to make two drawers from start to finish, so about an hour per piece could do it to be able to make batches this size. drawer, you could make eight of them in a day pretty easily and I'm actually going to make another one right after this one, so this particular cabinet will have three drawers of the same size and that should really help with storage in my little workshop.
It's always fun to learn something new. In fact, I'm getting ready to start designing a piece of furniture and we'll see how it goes. The next thing I'm going to design is a bar stool and with the top and I'm thinking about cutting the legs off the piece of 2x4 that I have a bunch of two-by-four pieces that are about four feet long and I'm thinking about make a template to basically cut off the legs of those two. four at a time we'll see how it works anyway this is 20 times the speed and I guess we could skip this part and go to the end, the final product is fine, so we have two boxes here, the first one was this one, I'm going to tell you the mistakes i made now the box creator or in the Aspire software devices the box creator will do the job it will work fine the only setting I would change is when you are setting up your stuff uh before you even click on the box creator, set your z height to go up a little bit because what happens is if you're plywood, let's say your plywood has a little bit of warp and then when it's cut, it does that final thing. cut and let's say the plywood pops up a little bit when that part is moved to another one for the next cut, it might break if it hits that piece that lifts up a little bit, so what I did was like this first one, the first one I made, the failure was that I tried to move my pieces and you really just need to let the box creator do their thing because what I did was reposition my material and then I thought okay.
I'll create my own tool path and I created my own tool path, but you can see it made a profile path and it cut the female joints too big and this one and the male joints too small, so I went ahead and glued them together and I nailed it because It's going to be a store drawer, so I think I could still use it, so that was the third, the first, now the second. I did everything according to the creator of the box. I didn't change any settings except for the material or the z clearance height and it came out perfect, in fact it's really nice and tight and this is going to be a really nice drawer, so now that I have that setting I'm going to go ahead and make it so I can Go ahead and prepare a few more drawers of this same size and you can see that this fits nice and nice, that's a nice tight drawer, so the box maker just can't, doesn't want to try to reinvent the wheel. let the box creator simply enter the dimensions of your material, click on the box creator and

gadget

s, then enter the height, width and depth of the material and let the box creator simply do the yours and it will turn out really well.
I've had a couple. Glitches at first but yeah this was a total success and you can see from the joints that they are very nice tight joints so anyway thank you so much for watching please subscribe and like the video and see you next time.
