Mar 29, 2024
welcome to a life on earth my name is Kevin and today we are going to talk about the

blue

hole

in Hawaii. This video will be a little different than my typical videos. Usually, I'll tell you how to make a life on Earth.

hike

, but in this case I'm just going to tell you my story about what happened to us on this

hike

and what it was like and I'm not going to tell anyone specifically how to do it exactly for one very important reason and let me explain why I feel like I shouldn't explain exactly how to do it.

There is very little information about the

blue

hole

and even less about how to do the hike. In fact, when Tyler and I hiked, there was nothing. any information where to start how long it takes is there a trail how difficult is it where to go there was no map or anything like that and since there is no way to really know how to do it that made it much more of a real adventure basically everything What you have is a starting point and an ending point. You know where you want to go. It is in the center of the island inside this mountain and the only thing between the start point and the end point is. eight miles of crazy rainforest and it's completely up to you and your responsibility to figure out how you're going to get from point a to point b and I think the true sense of adventure is what makes this hike so incredibly amazing, so let's go.

More Interesting Facts About,

blue hole hike waialeale kauai hawaii the hardest day hike in the world...

Enter our story about our journey to the center of the blue hole. When looking at Kawaii on the map, you can see that the blue hole is essentially formed by the mountain in the exact center of the island, making this the blue hole. It's hard to know what you're pointing at on a map, but what it is essentially is 3,000 foot cliffs on all sides and there's a valley cutting through them. The reason it's called the blue hole is because when you're in it. From these three thousand foot green cliffs you look up and the only thing you can see is the blue hole in the sky surrounded by the green cliffs, so this is your destination and the only thing I'm going to tell you is our starting point and where .

You can start this hike if you zoom here, you will find a small parking lot next to the kihua arboretum, this is where we parked our car, prepared our backpacks and equipment, tied our boots and started our hike according to my estimates. at least eight miles one way, so 16 miles round trip, if you count the times we had to backtrack or do some crazy switchback routes, you probably know that at least 16 miles around we started just after sunrise, around 8 or 9 a.m. and because the hike is so difficult and because we got so lost, especially at the beginning, we didn't finish until well after dark, around 10:10 at night, 10:00 p.m. m., so this hike takes all day and is super exhausting and extremely difficult the first part of the hike.

There were some gravel roads with some big streams, so you immediately got soaked. We opted to take our boots off so we wouldn't destroy them right away, but later on in the hike your boots will 100% get wet, so it's just up to you if you want to get them wet from the start Tyler and I were hiking through those rivers. Finally once you get off the gravel paths towards the beginning of the jungle we found a pile of mud that could almost be called quicksand, your boot would sink like a foot in half in this super wet mud and you could hardly getting it out if your boots weren't tied properly they would get sucked in it was crazy a lot of this hike was so extremely wet or just plain dangerous so a lot of this crazy stuff I couldn't even film so be careful with the quicksand and suddenly you arrive at the door of Jurassic Park.
This is the actual gate where they filmed the Jurassic Park movie. The original gate is pretty much gone, but it still has these two giant cement pillars from where the gate actually was, so it was really cool to see and it's very fitting because at this gate you're going into the unknown, you're basically entering the Jurassic. park without the dinosaurs and at this entrance gate which is where the forest really opens up, you can see the gigantic green cliffs in the distance with the weeping walls full of waterfalls, not far after the gate of the jurassic park you find the river The main and eastern river is apparently called the North Fork Waialua River, so if you ever get lost, simply follow the river downstream and this will bring you back to civilization and safety.
I always have a compass with me because there is a compass in my watch and my watch is solar powered so I always carry a compass with me. It's probably something I would recommend to anyone going on any kind of crazy adventures. You'll want to have a compass, but if you don't, that's all you need. The thing to know is that if you follow this river you will eventually get back to safety at some points, although once you get close to the blue hole the river forks a couple of times and that's where we got really lost and had to back. a lot up here somewhere where it splits, I'm not sure exactly where that was, but we started climbing these huge, very steep cliffs and then the river went down into a gorge and everything was soggy there and we had to walk. across a ledge about two inches wide with this little tree to hold on to and that was really unsafe.
Additionally, you'll want to keep an eye out for flash flooding. You always have a game plan of where to go to higher ground right in case a big storm hits and the whole blue hole turns into more of a raging river, something that didn't happen to us, but I'm not sure. exactly how big the river would get if there was a flash flood so always have a game plan on how to access higher ground if needed so at this point we were walking straight across the river there is no more trails, there is nothing, we are walking directly across the river and this is a big river.
We're climbing rocks, we're wading in waist-deep water, jumping from one rock to the next, there are jungles here and there with weird little waterfalls, there's Tyler standing in the jungle by a small pond, this is kind of the beginning. From the hike to the blue hole area it starts to look like this is what it is once you start entering the river, it's just rocks, water and jungle everywhere, there are no trails, where the river forks, there is a small giant waterfall with a pond. it's so deep you can swim in it so it's really cool, we finally made a little stop there as we got closer to the inside of the blue hole, there are dozens of these amazing incredibly beautiful waterfalls, here's Tyler, we're on a giant cliff in this.
Point with the waterfall, he's looking at one of those waterfalls, once we got into the blue hole, it was almost basically sunset, so we had to do everything at night, which was very difficult because we were walking through this raging river and like me he said in some places it's too deep to even go in it's like six feet deep and there are waterfalls and things like that so we crossed these rivers for about three or four miles in the middle of the night luckily we had our headlamps with us. which we normally carry when we walk, but without a light we literally would not have been able to return, it would have been too dangerous and simply impossible to see our balance, so if we had no lights and we were trapped.
There at night we literally had to go sit in the jungle and try to sleep and just sit there until sunrise, so it was crazy other than Tyler and I filmed a whole video of this hike and it was amazing, one of the coolest. things I've done, for sure, it's so cool that I really want to go back and film it again because it's amazing, the hike to the blue hole is a real adventure and I'll see you all in the next video, see you. then you
