So today's video is really exciting because we're doing a design on a different house, but not this house. any house this is my mother's house my mom lives about 15 minutes from me in an old 1950's single story farmhouse this is a beautiful house we did a complete renovation when we first moved in this is the house From my childhood this is the house that I grew up in and decided to be creative and design a little.

The fun thing about this house is that it has a completely different

style

than what you will see in my house. My mom has been transitioning from her original

style

, which was more of a farmhouse vibe to a more mid-century modern style, so she's been trying to combine those two styles to really curate her space, so this is going to be a little bit of a challenge for me because I'm using all of your

decor

, I've chosen something of my own for the style and to help judge your space, so this is going to be a little bit of a challenge for me because this is not a style that I work with often and We are using 100 of all their items so it will be fun.

We're going to do the formal dining room that we're in now, a little bit of their kitchen and then their living room as well, so hopefully if you have some inspiration, mid-century modern

home

or just in general, so I hope enjoy without further ado let's watch this video so this is the first space we are going to work with this is a formal dining room this actually used to be the garage and they made a formal dining room and then they added a living room space being formal, so this is the furniture and this is what you currently have and again, I'm just going to help you judge the place, design your mantel, design your coffee. table, but that way you can see her style and what she likes.

He loves all mid-century modern design and creates a lot of movement with this. It's very eclectic and curated, so let's have fun and I'll go. To show you how we can, you know, bring a little bit of fun aspects to this room. Well, we're starting with Target's newest vases. I bought them for my house, but I wanted to take them to my mom's house. I think these would look beautiful on her mantel, so we'll start with them on the far right. I love combining them. I love the way. I love the color. They are neutral. They are perfect.

Next we go. to add some greenery, I definitely think you need greenery here, you need texture, you need some visual interest, so they're actually from Amazon. I think they are considered ficus. They come in a pack of six. I'll be sure to link as much as I can. in today's video down in the description box, so I'll fold them to size when I make stems. I like to have a very tall one, a medium one, and a small one, and then don't be afraid to manipulate the branches to make them nice. They look like they have movement, if you hold them straight they will look really fake so make sure you manipulate them and give them some movement.
These are the stems we will be using on The Mantel, start with the tallest one first and I don't mind them falling over because once I put the others on it will all come together so again don't be afraid to bend them and give them some life . because you want it to look like a real branch, if there's a straight stick it's going to look fake so you can see it frames the spot a little bit and it's going to give it a really beautiful, natural look, you can stop there. with two stems for these, but I'm going to bring in a taller one just to give it a little bit more height and some color, and I already love that, so that's the next side, we're going to add some vintage. books I'm working with what I have, so this is what she has.
She has some really cool old books. I'm not really a fan of the color red because I think it clashes a little here, so where am I going? What I need to do is I'm actually going to flip the pages so that you can see more pages versus the spine in this particular style. Alright, then we're going to bring in some black wrought iron candelabras, they have a tall one and a small one and we're going to push them to the side in a style like we have, so we have candelabras, so that's the mantle, keep it super simple again, we kept the mantle very simple, my mom is a bit of a minimalist so she didn't want to do too much, but I definitely think bringing in these stems and greenery really helped this mantel and fireplace stand out well, so let's start alter the design, just a hair, this chair is something like that. in her own little land, you have this one that's just barely on the rug and then she also has this chair that's randomly sitting under this picture, so what I'm going to do is grab it.
This chair and join the type of chair with cable for almost like a double seat will be different, but I want it to be a little more of a community type living room, the space where you can communicate and chat, this seems very disconnected, so Let's go to put everything on the mat and just alter the design a little to make it feel a little more connected. Thank you, okay, so next we are going to design her coffee table, this is from a designer. His name is Herman Miller. This is a Naguchi coffee table, so you have a really mid-century modern base in wood and a glass top.
So I'll start with a black book stand. This is from Kirkland. This was an item I brought. For her we're going to use one of her coffee table books, but I'm actually just going to remove the cover. I always suggest turning to a page in the book that represents what's happening in the room, colors like that. To complement everything that is going on we are going to bring in some warmth, these are my Kathy Cook candle holders and a beautiful brass and lastly we are going to add a wooden element, this is a teak bowl from my mom with just a little dried artichokes in them to fill the bowl.
Next I'm just going to add a very cozy blanket with a little bit of mustard and cream on it, we're just going to spread it on top okay so I didn't tell myself I would do this but I ended up changing the design so this was in this corner alone. I didn't really like the look of the core just sitting on the floor, so I ended up creating a moment where this little side table was on the side of the couch. I removed it and put it here so you have your own vignette, so we're balancing this corner from the other side of the couch, so we're creating a moment for people to gather and chat and I really like this design a little better, They have their greens here and I put the big plant in this corner so you'll have to let me know what you think sooner or later lol so we'll move on from this point. unfortunately I have to do voiceovers because it got too loud so we're working on my mantelpiece.
This is in the living room. This is an original fireplace with real brick, so we have to use what we have to work with, so from here I added. A beautiful piece of landscaping art that has many natural earthy tones. This is from Amazon and then I'm pairing it with two black wrought iron candle holders with white taper candles. This glazed stoneware vase is from Target from the threshold collection from a few years ago and then. I paired these stems that I found on Amazon, they are so pretty they are a very delicate stem with little thorns and just little sprigs of greenery sprouting out.
I thought the greenery was really pretty and I played with the artwork and then my mom had some. leftovers from old books, so I simply combined some books that were the same green for a really beautiful mantle look. The next area we are going to design is the sideboard behind my mom's couch in her, my mom's, living room. She collects Bauer Pottery, so this was something she wanted me to add to this area, so I paired two of them together and then also added a really cute hand carved wood basket that I bought from Home Goods.
Then we are using those same Ficus stems. I love them. I think they add a lot of movement. In my opinion, they look extremely realistic and are a great way to add a lot more movement of color, height and texture to any space. The next thing we're going to add is two coffee table books instead of stacking them on top of each other, I'm actually opening them to a page and placing them on top of each other. This is just another really fun way to style your coffee table books by opening them up and styling them like this.
Adding a hand painted ceramic bowl from my stepdad's mother was something important to him and I really wanted to include it in some of these looks so I included one of his mother's hand painted ceramic bowls and this is the final look of this. The next area of the sideboard was her media console and at this point we are really starting to run out of decor so we kept this as minimal as possible. All I did was stack two coffee table books and placed this beautiful hand carved teak ball on top. and that's it, like I said, at this point we were running out of decor, she wanted it simple and this is what we came up with.
We moved into my mom's kitchen. He recently just renovated this space to leave it completely white. Her kitchen island is black, but with white kitchens you need to add a lot of contrast, a lot of warmth and texture just to break up the tones, so I'm using cutting boards, cookbooks, a basket with a beautiful plant to give it a little of color and then I'm just stacking some handmade wooden bowls on top of your cookbooks in this corner. We'll keep it simple, a few more cookbooks with a beautiful potted plant and then we'll go out and pick some live stems for an arrangement that I.
I'm going to do it on my mom's kitchen island bringing in that greenery and I love using the outdoors so why not lol foreign guys and that's it for today's video. I hope you enjoyed coming to my mom's house, my childhood

home

again, this is where I grew up and it was really fun to go in and sell things that I'm not used to designing with, it definitely takes me out of my comfort zone, this it's a completely different style of home decor and she really ended up liking it. I'm so grateful that she gave me this opportunity to come here to our old house and decorate it, so until next time guys, I love you so much, thanks for Be here and see you in my next video.
Peace Foreign.
