My daughter is getting ready to turn 10 and she has always used it. one piece swimsuits because she likes to cover up completely and she doesn't really like wearing bikinis, but she has noticed that her friends have started wearing bikinis and she is a little more modest, well that's her way so I want to help her by making a great suit. cover up now i first saw this on trash couture dot com and it's a really cool project and i thought it would be cool to make it with recycled materials or things you can find at the thrift store.

Now I found this amazing beach. girl's

tank

top at the thrift store and I have this fantastic purple

lace

to go with it. This should be an easy project, one that you can ruin if you're using used materials or cheap materials, so let's go ahead and get into it, shall we? This shirt is actually too big for my daughter. It's an XL size for girls or young women, but it should serve our purposes perfectly. It should cover from the shoulders to the bottom of the swimsuit. Now you'll want to bring your trusty Fisker scissors. sharp lifetime warranty love them and we're going to want to cut along the side seam of our garment okay just be very careful now this is going to be a little bit hidden according to the plan I saw you know like it I noticed in the front of the episode everything we do in Daddy Sews is for the first time without practice so you can see all my glory or all my misery if we make mistakes because we are doing it for the first time together so I already did it.

Well, you're basically opening your shirt like this. I'm going to go ahead and do the other side and then we'll cut out some lace. Okay, now it's time to cut the lace, so I'll bring my trusty Fisker. swivel here too, make sure the safety is off How many times have you tried to cut with this thing and then realized the safety was on? I'm going to put the cord on my mat. I'm going to move one, two, three, four inches and We're going to take our ruler there, look at one, two, three, four inches on our mat and then we're going to want to cut there.

Now that I have folded my fabric enough to get two pieces, one for each side, now your lace piece will want to run all the way up here on the shirt and all the way to the back, so make sure you have enough to do that on both sides of Shirt. Okay, let's start pinning it. We have our lace we have our shirt now we are going to start pinning now. In fact, I'm going to start pinning this to the front of the shirt, as you can see here, so let's move that up and put our lace right down there now.

It's been cut to size for my shirt and it's just going to go up here and up the arm and back down again. Okay so be very methodical and slow and pin your lace now your lace may be a little thicker than I am wearing the t-shirt it may be a little thicker maybe you are using cotton that is not it's inside, so that's all going to change how many times you want to pin it, if you have to be careful not to stretch. While pinning it, proceed carefully and make sure all the edges are properly pinned.
Well, I'm going to go over this with a little movie magic and then we'll be back and ready to start sewing right now. everything is set in place, we're just going to move on to our sewing machine. I'm going to use a zig-zag stitch because I think it will tie everything together a little better with this delicate lace and knit shirt as you get started. As always, don't forget to sew back. Luckily with my jukey, I can just press the back of my pedal and it

back like I programmed or I can do things like cut thread when I step on the back. of the pedal, which is super cool, just go ahead and move slowly, don't pull too much on the material, especially if you're using fabric, but guide it, let your machine do most of the work and don't forget to pull the pins.
As you go, I'll move a little faster now, maybe don't follow that example, just make sure you're careful. I'm going to go ahead and go around this whole edge and then I'll come back and we'll chat about how we connect the sides, okay, I know what you're saying Christian, you don't, so on top of the garment you've completely ruined this, this is going to Being a failure, he repeats, well, it's not. because if you look here is the top of my garment or the right side and that's where I sewed and when you turn this over ooh look you don't see the seam, now we're going to do the same thing with the other side, okay , and then we'll talk about how we put everything together to make sleeves on this amazing summer coat.
Well, we are in the final stretch. I just rethreaded my machine with white thread. I don't have a light lavender light. purple to match this lace, but okay, we're just going to wear it right, so we've got our shirt on the outside, we've got the lace on both sides, you see how cute it looks, now let's go ahead and turn this bad boy inside out. come on now let's line up our socket, let's see if we can get this right now, the straighter you cut this traitor, it will be yes, the cut is important, okay, and we'll just line it up like this. okay and then we're going to sew that together now you're going to want to leave this area open which is your sleeve area and you can determine how thick you want or how deep you want that sleeve, but I'm just going to do what I think is the smartest thing and easy and stop at this line now you can pin or you can use groovy clips and again if you want a great deal on groovy clips just click on the link below daddy says comm slash groovy clips and that's it.
Best price I've found for them, so we'll just pin them together and then sew this lace. Okay, I'll start pinning and then why don't you come back when we start sewing everything together? okay, let's go ahead and start sewing. I went with a combination of a pin at the end, don't forget to sew back and then continued with groovy clips all the way to the top. I thought the pin held it together very well right at the end and then the Wonder Clips are doing a great job holding the lace together as it is delicate and has holes in it and I think there is plenty of room for the pins to slide through when it is just right into the lace, so one at the end and then followed with Wonder Clips the rest of the way down, now that you're getting close to the point you want to stop, you have to make a decision: are you just going to sew back when you get to that stitch or I'm going to sew to make a sort of bottom sleeve area.
I have two minds, so I think what I'm going to do is make you one of each. I'm just going to stop and I'm going to sew back when I get to the armpit part and on the other sleeve this sleeve I'm going to go ahead and sew all the way to the end of the lace that way I can decide which one I like best and you can decide such Which one you'd like to try, so we're getting to that point where we're in the armpits. I think we're pretty close here. I'll make sure my lace is straight, that's right. very delicate things, so be slow, be methodical and I think I've got it there, okay, I'm going to go ahead and sew now, I'm going to lift my foot but I'm going to leave the needle down and then I'm just going to sew my lace until I get to this small part of the armpit, drop the foot and sew.
Now I'm making this because it's for my daughter and I'm not really sure what the best way to do it for her is, so I want to make sure it's nice and strong and safe, when we turn this right side out, you'll see what It happens when you take a stitch and go to the lace side under the sleeve. You've got the lace insert here, which looks super cool, but on that side. The stitch puts a strain on everything here now, that might actually be better for my daughter. I'm making it for my youngest daughter and this will keep everything a little tighter for her so it won't be as swishy, but if we didn't do that you would only have lace up and down the sides.
Now you can do this either way, but I think I'm going to go ahead and leave the pinch off. I think it will suit you better. Let me go ahead and finish that. I'll show you some final photos when we're done. Thank you very much for joining me in this episode. If you like the project.
