There are four fundamental principles you must master to master

land

navigation

. The first is to know where you are. I can determine this by an important feature of the train that I can identify on my map or I can be given an eight-digit number. Grid Coordinates Once I know where I am, my next step is to orient my map and plot my location. The next step is to orient my map towards our map. I'm going to set my compass directly on my map and make sure North on my map is aligned with North on my compass once I've oriented my map I can now plot my location.

I'm at zero four seven five seven seven eight zero so I'm going to rewrite to zero four and up to seven seven now I know I'm somewhere on this grid square to find my exact location. I'm going to take my protractor and I'm going to line it up at the bottom left corner of zero four seven seven and I'm going to slide my protractor to the right two seven five and then I'm going to read up to eight zero and then I'm going to plot my location two Rivera Phi I'm going to put it back to zero four seven five seven seven eight zero and make sure that the black line on my map on my pencil is directly below the black line on my protractor.

The next fundamental is to plan the route to plan the route. I'm going to plot the location where I want to go and determine my azmuth so I'm heading to zero three eight two seven seven five one again. I'm going to set my protractor to zero three seven seven. I'm going to slide it to the right and find eight two and read up to five one, lower my protractor and again make sure my pencil mark is directly under my black line. Now that I've plotted my two locations, I can determine my azmuth, so I'm going to use them with the ruler, my protractor, line it up. from where I am to where I'm going and I'm going to draw a straight line, I'm going to take the center of my protractor making sure the zeros on the top and the 90s on the right I'm going to place it on the I center where I start.

I'm going to read again and determine my grid, which is 253 degrees. I'm going to take my map, turn it over and use the declination diagram. the declination diagram is the difference between grid north and magnetic north which is 9 degrees so to convert from a grid azmuth to a magnetic azmuth I need to subtract my GM angle which now gives me an azmuth of 244 degrees, the next step is to calculate it. my distance, so I'm going to use the scale on my protractor and I'm going to put it right from where I start to where I'm going and I can see that I'm about 980 meters away, now I know my distance, it's a good idea to double check your work before you start moving, so I'm going to put my protractor back and Rivera Phi all my coordinates zero four seven five seven seven eight zero and zero three eight two seven seven five one looks like my layout is good, the next fundamental thing is to stay on the route .

I can do this a couple of different ways if there is a fixed point that is not moving. I start heading towards the next point. I can use this to stay on my asthma. called dead reckoning I can also preset my compass degrees on my compass they are marked with red numbers as I rotate my compass I want the black line of my bezel ring to be directly above my bearing to fire my azmuth I am going to use a compass method cheek by bringing the compass to my eye and looking down at my degrees, then I'll look up through the wire at my azmuth and find a direction mark to use a center hole method.
I'm going to bring the compass to my torso and find 244 degrees. Once I have my 244 degrees, I'll look toward the horizon and try to find a bearing mark that's on my azmuth. As you can see, the green tractor is directly on my azmuth to preset my compass while keeping it on a heading of 244 degrees. I'm going to turn the bezel ring on my compass until it's aligned with my North finding arrow. Once I have done that, I can walk in a straight line and if I veer to the left or detour. Well my luma

lines will no longer be aligned or if I hold 244 I can now maintain my heading now that I didn't know my distance and my direction.
I can start heading towards my direction mark one 69 70 71 72 every time I go 100 meters, which is 72 steps. I'm going to stop and redo my count, so I'm just going to count every 100 meters. I can keep track of how many 100 meter increments I walk using beads. stones or tying knots in a rope once I have it, I will start again 1 2 now that I have reached my Stern mark I can use my back azimuth to determine if I have been going in the right direction after asthma there is nothing more the exact opposite direction you've been heading 4 degrees from zero to 180, you're going to add 180 degrees, if your direction was between 180 and 360 degrees, you're going to subtract, so my back azimuth is 64 degrees.
Using my compass, I'm going to shoot my 64 degree azmuth and make sure I've been pointing in the right direction, which I can now go to the other side of my bearing mark and in exactly the same direction again now that I'm on the other side of my address mark. I can fire my azmut again at 244 degrees. I don't have anything I can use as an outside marker, but my compass is preset, so I can use it to stay on my asthma, the ultimate fundamental. is to recognize the target once I have moved the required distance, it should be right where I am supposed to be, I go out of the required distance and found my 62nd point, now I am ready to move on to the next point, just remember. these four basic fundamentals the next time you go out to exercise

land

navigation you have to know where you are you have to plan the route stay on the route and recognize the objective
