The first step was obviously to remove all the existing doors and drawers. While you're doing this, you want to make sure you number them and mark all the doors so you know exactly where each of them will go. I filled all the screw holes on the old hinges with wood, buddy, we won't reuse them because for the stronger holes you want to use new screw holes now for painting. First we have to clean the cabinets and I did this using a teaspoon of solution in hot water that removes all the dirt, grease and grime, then I clean the cabinets with warm water, so in this kitchen we have two types of cabinets, we have the laminate. veneers and we have the unfinished wood which is the new cabinets the unfinished cabinets are really easy you just prime them and paint them with the laminated veneer cabinets there is an extra step you want to give them texture sand them a little so the primer has something to grab onto, you can do that with fine sandpaper, but I really want to minimize the amount of dust I create, so I'm going to try liquid sandpaper.

I've never used this before, so let's find out. how it works on my first try I just wiped the frame with the solution and that didn't work after doing some more research I found out I had to leave the solution for 15 minutes to dry for it to actually work so I did that and was pretty impressed With the results, the shine was gone and the cabinets felt rough to the touch, time to paint, I taped everything, the corners, the edges around the appliances, the floor and around the countertop for the primer. I'm using Sherwin. -Williams Extreme Bond Primer This is a water-based primer and I was really impressed with how well it worked on the laminate.

I simply cut it in with a brush and then applied it down the middle with a quarter inch nap roller once it was dry. a fine sandpaper to knock down any texture that had appeared especially on the cabinets that were raw wood. Now for the paint I used exactly the same procedure as with the primer, cutting on the edges and everywhere else a roller could reach. I used a roller to apply the paint. The first coat looks pretty disappointing, but I went back to apply a second and third coat and I actually sanded between coats two and three with 400 grit sandpaper and the color started to look nice and rich, unfortunately.

I lost my footage for that part, but now you can see what the painting looks like. Well, it's been three days since I painted these cabinets. They had enough time to cure and passed the nail test. What is the nail test? Basically, you take the nail. and you scrape it against the freshly painted surface, obviously you want to do this in a corner that you can easily repair if the paint hasn't cured, but if you can run your nail across the surface without damaging it, you're good to go. It's time to reattach the doors and drawers for the doors and drawer fronts.
I am associated with a company called New Cabinet Doors. Basically, they make the doors and drawer fronts so you can easily update your cabinets without having to change them all. They make doors, drawer fronts, door boxes, floating shelves, so basically anything you need to easily upgrade your kitchen without having to completely disassemble it, so this is the door I'm using, this is the shaker style, too you can ask them to make the boards hinged. for you, now let's go ahead and install these to attach the hinges to the doors. You can simply line up the hinges using a quick square to make sure they are nice and straight and screw them in if you are using a

power

drill be sure to use that. controller settings and do not overtighten the screws while attaching the door to the cabinet frame.
I like to use a level that attaches to the cabinet. This helps me keep the door level where I need it and also gives me something to support the door while I put it on, then I just mark the pre-drilling and drive in the screws. If the door is not aligned, there are a couple of screws on the inside of the hinge that you can use to fix it. I use the kreg hardware hack. To attach the posts and voila, now for the drawer fronts, I started by making the holes for the drawer posts using the Craig hardware jig, then pre-drilled a couple of holes in the sides of the existing drawer box and then I lined up the front of the drawer. the drawer and added a couple of temporary screws through the hardware holes, these will hold the drawer front in place while I add the screws from the inside through the pre-drilled holes and then I simply removed the temporary screws and added the hardware that also I have a Lazy Susan corner cabinet that I put together with some screws and installed it and there my friends are the completely renovated cabinets.
We saved a lot of money just by keeping the existing cabinet boxes, painting them and adding brand new doors and now it looks. like a brand new kitchen, I have one more quick project in the space and then it will be time to reveal the full kitchen, stay tuned
