Spray Painting a 30-Year-Old Light for UNDER $10

There are few things more important than being able to take something old and make it new, reusing something in your home is pretty extraordinary. In this video you will see me taking a 30

year

old lamp in the throne room of my master bathroom. Using some steel wool, apply some

spray

the throne room and as I was cutting out that red the white on the red I looked at this fixture and I thought oh my gosh so I thought instead of having to replace it why .

Don't remove it, remove the glass, wipe off the half inch of dust and since I have an oil rubbed bronze motif all over the place, I could get away with just

it black, replacing the glass and putting some LEDs. there, leave me on top of the throne room, you know what I mean, I'll probably get away with it because it's black on the ceiling of the throne room, so I washed it all, took it apart and I'm beating it with a little bit. steel wool here because I'm like, well, you know, if I can spray paint, this will save a little money, so I'm going to try to get rid of a little bit of this top layer of rust and then I'll hit it with a little bit of this flat paint primer. two in one oxide-oleum, so I took out all the screws that hold the glass shades of the lamps, for starters, those are already worn brass or bronze and I will put them back in the nut that holds this.

It's pretty dark, I'll be fine with that, they'll give it a two tone look and I don't need it to be perfect, I just need to scrape the surface a little so the paint stays on, that's pretty good, there's still wool there so I'm going to hit this with air, a little bit of paint, no compressed air. I feel pretty good about it, covering the terminals here, I don't need to worry about painting. the inside because the glass lampshades are going to be there, I want to move around a little bit, so just shake it, remove that little plug in there pretty good, I could have removed these cups, however the inside had a Ton of freshly wrapped cables, all three were wrapped together in one big hornet's nest of wiring and that seems pretty good to me.

I'll let it dry, turn it around and touch it up. It dried quite well. I'm happy with that aspect. some areas I might have missed right over my finger, damn, mmm, well look at that, when it dries, that'll be it, those are the wires I was talking about on the inside and I don't want to remove those bowls, like this I just go. to put this back in there like it was, the paint is still wet on the ceiling, so I'm going to do this while I wait okay and now that's just going to hang there, obviously, making sure we're ready. on the switch otherwise we would

up like a firecracker and I'm going to leave it hanging until the paint dries because I don't want paint to get on the sides of my new black gloss Now that I have all my wires connected I have my night wires tucked in this is dry now it's okay I'm just going to tuck this in, find my center hole for the cape here, tuck it in carefully up to the ceiling and then I'm going to attach this back nice and tight to the ceiling, it looks pretty good, I like how it's two toned, it's rough looking, it looks really clean, super clean, let's put in the glass fixtures, let me start with this here. that's not so bad, it has that classic look, but now it's a little updated with some paint, we don't have that 80's brown here with all that rust, not that anyone is really looking at the ceiling when they're inside. the throne room, considering how old they are, like 20

s old, actually 30 years old, this fixture was installed in 1990, so to have something that is 30 years old, give it some steel wool and some paint to make it look this cool, thank you.

From watching this video of the

light

fixture on top of the throne room, it was really cool to be able to just pull that thing down. I wonder if we can do this. Hit it with some steel, we'll nail it with some paint. In fact, it looks great when it's on the ceiling. Obviously I didn't have all the bulbs because I didn't want to blind the camera, but with that thing on it really lights up with these LEDs, that old technology mixed with new.
