Here's Why All Smash Bros Games Are Broken

May 04, 2024
So a lot of you have been asking me recently to react to Hugh's series of x Smash Bros. The game is

broken

. Now this is a video series highlighting each and every type of interaction and

smash

. They're either

broken

or just completely ridiculous. Whether informative or just humorous, I sometimes think that with my years in professional success I could provide some interesting commentary in addition to the things shown in all these videos. Now I won't show any of these. videos in their entirety and I completely recommend them if you want to watch the full videos to go to the great channel please subscribe support his content and see what he has to say in full and also make sure to subscribe if you watch them. regularly but you are not subscribed and also ring the bell to keep up with daily uploads.

That said, I think one of the most interesting things about Smash 64 having so many hits is that it's not just the game that has a ton of hits. but you also don't have any kind of options to escape from disadvantaged positions, so while Smash 64's headstand is absolutely insane and one of the things that a lot of people talk about when they remember the game, a lot of people don't talk about is The fact that Smash 64 also does not have any type of options to exit the story. In most Smash

games

, you can air dodge to get out of this advantageous position or you can perform a move or you can perform some type of action. put yourself in a better place, some characters slide for example in fights or you have teleports, you have some kind of mechanic to help you land on the ground.

smash

64 is extremely unforgiving and most crackers have absolutely no tools to land, not to mention that. you can't just air dodge in any bad scenario so you're stuck dying since smash 64 is obviously the first in the series, it had a lot of mechanics that you would never imagine playing smash without it, but back.

More Interesting Facts About,

here s why all smash bros games are broken...

The day a lot of people know it's their first time playing Smash, I mean, it's just what we had back then, but it's also very interesting how, over time, the development team managed to add a mechanic on top of the mechanics and Smash. has been getting better and better despite adding so many things to the mix. I think one of the most interesting things about Smash is that it was originally intended to be a different game, but then it changed to the fact that you know they work well. If we put smashed characters or Nintendo characters in this random fighting game then it will probably sell a little better and boy were they right oh this is still in the game I will say it's one of the things people hate the most . general luigi grab combos people just hate it so much they tried to weaken it by changing the way it works downer which people found out you can do it from t

here

anyway and it's the same thing this chain grab is actually a lot harder than it's welding too when you basically just press and it doesn't really matter what they do it's always the same moment but in the fight one interesting thing is that the chain grip was actually different depending on the weight of the character if you did the change when a light cacket, the chain grab time was faster if you did it on a bigger character like Bowser or heavier, then the chain grab was slower, you actually had to individually practice the bend of the chain chain on each character, making this chain graph much more skilled than people.

I think when I was a little kid I used to hold down every time I got hit. I had a feeling that every time I held down I would survive longer, which was obviously unaware of the fact that I was crouching canceling the game, which when you hold down, you actually survive longer and go less far, obviously because I'm a little kid. , I couldn't say that, but every time I get hit by my friend's peach, I'll take like 80 million percent and I was so frustrated because in my head I thought that had to be the best character in the game.
here s why all smash bros games are broken
On the other hand, this stupid character is not the best, but unfortunately, he was too young to know much of the reasons why many characters like Mars who has such a ridiculous gravity range or Yoshi who has such a terrible graph or a cactus type clock game that can't lock it completely is because the melee combat was actually a very rushed game, so much so that I think the game was finished in about a year of development and t

here

were many times where they had to going through tough times to even finish the game, just like the reason they had to rush melee so much that they had to meet the game's release deadline, it's crazy to think that maybe if they had one or two More years of development maybe the melee combat wouldn't be as flawed as it is and it leads me to think that if they had more time with the game they would have removed a lot of the mechanics that people tend to enjoy. for melee today and melee would never have been the game it is today, it has to be the combo I hate the most in the game, all kinds of ladder combos in smash, I really hate it because they basically became mechanics in which everyone will play against the other. a character like you will be like a 10 and there will be like a 150 and then you make a mistake they will grab you or a b or whatever random setup they had and you're just dead there's nothing you can really do and your mistake is ja you should have killed him at 80 instead of having an advantage like any normal fighting game.
In my opinion it was one of the most toxic mechanics in Smash and I don't know why Smash 4 was so famous for having all these random game mechanics where the more you won the more you lost, for example Rio was actually rewarded for losing because how much The more damage you did to him, his cheerful true shuriken will start to kill you like 40 or 50 percent and then the zero suit rosalina and bayonetta were known for just killing you just to win, looking back, those things combined with the fact that the Rage was a mechanic really makes me believe that because they had Rage, which was another mechanic that also helped casuals beat good players, they were essentially saying, "Okay, we don't do it." We want travel to be part of the game, we're going to tone it down in other aspects, but we still need to make the game accessible to a wider audience, so we need to make sure that casual players can keep up with the good players they were.
It's not to balance the heavies because in the end, the characters who could best abuse anger were not the heavy ones, while the light characters liked zero game and bail, but it became a mechanics that affected the outcome of each game, there were so many. times I won tournaments due to anger and lost tournaments only due to anger, it is by far in my opinion the worst mechanic in the game because it also generated ladder combos oh my god the amount of chin holds there are in The fight is ridiculous. Not only did almost every character have a chin grip, but many characters could simply infinite each other.
Mars actually had a legit chain chart that was extremely easy to do essentially when you grab Nest or Lucas specifically and then let them break free from your grip on the ground, they will have an insane amount of lag meaning you can grab them before they can act. Basically you can just infinite from a chart anywhere, which makes the matchup simply unplayable. Spice Smash Ultimate has so many characters I think. It's a really well balanced game, the fact that there's nothing nice about it, we all agree on who the best character in the game is, which is a first for any successful game, I think is a great testament to how balanced this is. game, so every time you play any character, it feels almost anyone can win and almost everyone doesn't have much time.
In my opinion, the game feels very fair. In fact, I think it's a really good game in terms of multiplayer. It's crazy how we're talking. about how ridiculous Richter's range and projectiles are, but then he's considered almost a low level character if you thought Snake's choice was ridiculous and ultimately you don't know how absurd it was in bro, I think History says that Snake was originally. It was supposed to be a lot bigger than it actually is in brother, but again, because they just didn't balance it for God's sake or maybe they just didn't care, they essentially didn't change the size of the snake hitboxes intended for the larger model at the time. smaller model, meaning Snake basically had the hitboxes of a character that was much larger, that's why Snake has hitboxes that don't make sense, that's why he will hit here and then hit you here until it was originally intended to be like twice.
As big or something, maybe as big as Bowser or something. Ice climbers have a lot of obstacles in terms of grappling combos and I actually think they're low key, a bit broken, but we haven't had someone like that yet. Really go out there like a big tournament and just kill him like he's in the top 8. better like evo or something so people can see it, but there have been a lot of regional tournaments where the Icelanders have dominated, I don't know. Why are they so bad at balancing ice climbers like they actually want them to not be able to do grab combos because they made it like nana mocks when they grab you so you can stop the player from doing combos but ? they're still not able to control it, they even went so far as to nerf these things, which is when you try to control this separately and you can still just throw everyone out, you can see hitboxes like this that go from 64 to fight and it's mainly because during a time the only person who balanced in smash was actually sakura himself and what I mean by this is that he was the only person who balanced; in fact, he usually did these blog posts where he said he'd have like two or four controllers and he'd move all the characters with his bare hands like a keyboard and he'd balance all the characters that way and I think a big reason why that there is so much garbage, especially in melee and fighting, and also in 64, it is because you put the whole task of balancing a fighting game, which is normally a task intended for a group of people, not a single person, and then obviously things will fall by the wayside but it's crazy because I personally feel like my favorite smash

games

are definitely somewhere between melee and brawl has this kind of magic yeah even though it's wacky and ridiculous at times it has this type of magic and I feel like it has a lot to do with the way Zachary balances things, as far as I know the reason Roy is so bad compared to Marth is because Marth was the original character they made and then based on Roy completely out of character.
I think a lot of the same animations that Marth has include attacks or certain things actually carried over strictly from Marth to Roy, but a horrible one. What they didn't do is they didn't actually make an adjustment based on that portability, so a lot of Roy's moves don't make sense because they're based on the gait model, which I think is a little higher or different in certain aspects. ways i don't know exactly the technicalities, it's essentially a gait model inside roy, but it's not tuned properly, so a lot of roy's moves just don't make sense again, another example of why rushing in the game is bad because they wanted the wii to be the ultimate casual console that was accessible to everyone, they essentially made a big chunk of smash on the wii, which is, bro, a lot easier than it should have been, hand-to-hand combat actually he didn't hold anyone down in terms of mechanics, but the fight did, so they weakened him.
He removed many of the mechanics, such as adding shooting, to make professional players more competitive. Players couldn't overpower casual players so easily and use flash. Still, there was one really interesting balance thing they did in melee and that was they actually made Mart go down a spike. in the European version, which makes it super interesting because it's a legitimately good nerf for an otherwise very, very broken character oh my god this is also so thick okay so not only were you able to create a I could be much faster than everyone. more in the game because for some reason the weight and height of the self affected the way they played in the games so if you made a short self you will have a small hitbox and also a small self will be super fast therefore it could have a small character extremely fast than almost everyone else in the game, but then they will have the strength of Mario or even more, for no reason, the weight should have affected the power of the character, it would have made a lot more sense, but it didn't balance it out That way, what this means is that, if combined with anger,You can create a really broken character in tournaments that allow customs that allow you to modify your specials.
Many people in Japan theorize that he was actually the best character in the game. My brother because not only did he have guaranteed kill combos from any graphic anywhere on the stage, but he was basically Mario, but better, and Mario was already a top-tier character. Oh no, his optimistic bangers could kill your 40s. I made a lot of videos about it. on my channel because it was so funny how you can beat anyone with this. Looked at him. 31 you're dead, not that you could have done it through combos like 23 you're dead, you could even do it in a way that In fact, I could also come back from that to this day.
Charizard's slide is one of the lamest things I've ever seen. They all have amazing glide, including the metallic and pink one. But Charizard is so horrible that it's just not going anywhere. It's ridiculous. I say this. it's one of the nastiest things in the game, like Chrome could basically steal you like that, but they were really cool about it and it was one of the first things they were passionate about in the game, they were like no, that's definitely not the case. .something we want to finish the game we didn't intend for that to be there, I don't know why, but Chrome almost always died second, he was so curvy that he is a prime example of very poorly designed characters.
Curves just don't work. a lot of his direct moves just don't work in close combat, they aren't timed correctly, a lot of his attacks with them are actually negative, hey, so you can punish him for getting hit by Kirby with curves. he misses all of his jumps from above, that's the most trash thing I've ever seen, I didn't even know I've been playing Miller since this came out, that's hilariously flawed and horrible, my god, what a horrible character, oh man, there is this one. clip if you have to sum up smash 4 competitively in one word, it will be this, the spirit of smash to convince has always been this promising player, fighter, the game of the best player, five promising players are losing and then the best player is like clearly winning but they're both on the last action and the better player dies on something smashing four near the ledge, I mean, where you'd think the fancy guy actually wins.
I'm thinking the classy man is about to lose away from death here, yeah, classy, oh my goodness. oh my god one hit optimistic the popup is what kills me the popup kills me every time oh my god oh it's all a real combo until the popup happens every time this is how I can define smash 4 in a nutshell, competitive, this only happened because of anger, by the way, there are really interesting theories here, apparently the game on guard is based on the Mario model and the reason again why the game and the watch do not work for many of your movements, not only that.
In fact, they specially programmed some of these arrows so that you can't even cancel them, which is a mechanic that allows you to have less lag when you press the shield when landing with the attack, but also explains why his shield doesn't actually adjust to their model because it was originally meant to be mario because it's using the mario model but they just didn't balance it properly because we're rushing the game we have to deliver on the game give that line in fact i think gamer watch and mario have a lot of same properties, I'm not sure if maybe that's the case, but therefore many of their properties match.
I remember when my friends and I played melee for the first time, we all thought Jigglypuff was trash because she's super light, she doesn't have good special moves, I just thought she was a bad character and then she thinks she doesn't even have a real cooldown. We thought she was so bad and then my friend one day was smashing B for some reason during a combo and I went flying in a burst of flames. he died like a zero that was the day i knew there was something wrong with jigglypuff the funny thing about the restraints, especially the characters had attended the recovery like omar it's like if you grab the ledge they couldn't really break that, kill olimar sometimes it was as easy as knocking him back out of the level, grabbing the ledge and that's all all of our players had to do, no matter what they do they will die every time, giving olimar and ivysaur one of the worst comebacks in all of them. the story of smash, I say. the most insignificant difference between any of the echoes has to be between pen and dark, like ken and rio they are completely different characters, same as chrome and roy, but then paying in dark pit is like side b and the arrows pointing to the normal arrows.
They're not even that good and a lot of times Dark Pit's arrows tend to work much better in certain bigger matchups. I remember one of the first rumors in Ultimate that I think a lot of people asked me when I started live streaming. the game what are the differences between peach and daisy and I wanted to say well, there isn't any, but every time you say there aren't any, there will be like a hundred people in the chat saying no, the daisy, uh, smash, makes a por hundred more damage than them. uh his four are stronger than daisy, just all this random fake stuff just isn't true, it's just placebo effect. pikachu had crazy infinite on almost every character in the game but it was very easy to do in meta knight which meant pikachu and mennonite was actually an even matchup or some people even theorized that pikachu was the only character in the game that he beat mennonite because not only was pikachu able to keep up with the men in his frame data, but he could also kill him in one grab because he could actually set infinity from the chain graph that pikachu already had on the man and wave like a changer to deal like 80 damage, but other than that you could just kill him from the camera so Pikachu grabs midnight at zero and just kills him.
Okay, if you had the technical ability to do it, that's why a lot of people have theorized that Pikachu might be the only character to actually beat Meta Knight if it wasn't the ice climbers, oh my god, the bug of the self -yo is one of the craziest kind of bug, as I understand it, is that there is some random property to the smash attack or maybe the yoyo itself, but essentially you can attach a hitbox and replace the original hitbox with something else that create a wide variety of crazy things that you can either for things like setting up a trap where you can put a hitbox like a broken move like a smasher deck or something somewhere on the stage or you can give things to the nest called jackets that, like You can give it as property to the demanding one. thunder or you can give it intense fire, there are a lot of crazy things you can do and I remember when this problem was first discovered, which was forever ago.
I remember doing it to a casual friend and they legitimately wanted not to do it. You didn't play with me anymore because they thought I was using Action Replay or something because it was crazy, especially back then, because it wasn't very popular and people didn't always go online and check everything, but you know, for some reason. I found it on the forums and like an obscure thread of nest characters and they were like, oh yeah, the yoyo problem, bro, to me it was still one of the funniest things I've ever seen overall, oh my god, that's so The big difference is probably that right here, oh my god, smash four, you're dead, man, I saw that in my head, I thought the moment I saw the percentages and the grunts that you're dead, there's nothing you can do, oh my god.
I hate Lucario so much, I hate Lucario in Smash 4 with such a passion because the developers for some reason thought we would give one character rage like we would every character in the game, but we would also give them aura so you have two rages. and then Double the character's wins by losing this will create scenarios where Lucario will actually kill you at 20 or 10 percent with a charging hit. It was incredible how poorly balanced his character was, this character that I hated the most of any character in Smash 4. Yes, I hated Bayonetta or Rosalina or characters like that, but Lucario really got on my nerves.
The stamina mechanic has to be one of the worst things I've ever seen, but it basically made the Pokémon trainer really bad, not just the three Pokémon really. Bad apart from Squirtle, I say, but adding a mechanic that makes you have to switch Pokémon at a certain time, otherwise your Pokémon becomes practically useless. It's so bad that I'm really glad they went with an ultimate, even though it didn't make sense. They made it a little better and ultimately at least he can be behind the B side, but it still sucks, it's still the worst kick in the game, man, huh, except when I use it against the best players, then it's a good character, not just them. make the hits made for fights non-existent which is directly a statement towards competitive players because they just didn't want competitive players to destroy the casual ones because they wanted the game to be much more accessible on the wii, but they also added a bunch of mechanics. that allow you to cancel a hit, as you can dodge the air very quickly to negate combos, you can jump, you can attack pretty much any action when hit, it's much faster than any other smash game ever made most of the time.
You are encouraged to attack once or twice, do your bnb and then walk away and then wait for the other person's action because your turn is already over. There's actually a big reason why my left player is absolutely the spice brother, because everything makes melee movement interesting. combos and intensity are gone and brawl brawl is all about neutral patience and has nothing to do with combos in my opinion I like both games equally if I want to play something intensive I play melee if I want to play something I mean a little slower but still very intense in its own way.
I like playing brother, but melee players always had problems with brother. If you go back and look at the forums, you'll see that melee players had this campaign where fighting sucked. dont play

bros

trash game and almost the entire narrative of brawl being a bad game is because melee players got mugged and it wasn't like melee or close to melee yeah no only Bowser and Donkey Kong were two of the worst characters. Initially in Smash 4, but after they gave them both the best shot in the game, which is basically, let's know, having a combo shot that does 30 damage at all percentages but also kills you and all the characters in a certain percentage no matter what. you can't escape and you know that nothing on top of both characters has incredible grappling range, in my opinion it made them one of the most toxic fighting archetypes in the entire game, it got to a point where Bowser and Donkey Kong deliberately didn't will use their other moves because they didn't want to stop the percentage, the right percentage to kill you with the grab, so essentially the character became grab the character, it didn't matter which one you chose, they were both playing the c.
In exactly the same way, you will even play with the best Donkey Kong Bowser players and all they will have to do is grab, oh my god, watching him grab onto the platform brings back too many memories of Maciado for me. I think my favorite memory is when Ultimate came out. I went out to play music and I was going to team up at a lot of different events when I thought I was going to compete but obviously I didn't, it's just that I theorized that the insurer had to be one of the best characters in the game because she could farm super broken counters in doubles and then when you turn it down your hero was one of the worst characters in doubles and one of those cards in the period of the game seems a lot more broken than it actually is, it's really balanced out by the fact that it's during a setback like that here otherwise it's crazy because smash 4 diddy was pretty amazing and he's my favorite character for the longest time in competitive but in brawl diddy was so much better danny had access to so many shots than in smash 4, not only able to do consistent infinities because it was basically able to hit you with a banana and infinity from anywhere on the stage, the peanut gun was much better, it could basically wave bananas around, it was ridiculous and it was also much stronger in terms of killing . power, I remember doing that to a casual friend and he ran out of the game saying that he was cheating and that he shouldn't play with them anymore because I'm abusing glitches and bugs so I'm not good at the game.
I would say that while stumbling is a terrible mechanic, I think I've only lost maybe one or two games in my almost 10 years of playing my brother competitively, so I don't think it's a really bad mechanic, as much as I like it. people say no, it's like a hot shot or whatever, but the number of timesI've seen someone lose a game in a competitive game because the stumble has to be like 0.1 percent of all the games I've seen, which means that for a mechanic that many people claim is the worst brother mechanic, no. I agree, I think there were a lot of other mechanics that were much worse than the brother and that actually determine the game much more than that, specifically the amount of infinities the game had definitely made the game much worse than stumbling.
I ever did and it's also why considering mechanics like smash 4 rage are so much worse because smash 4 rage affected the outcome of every game no matter what you did, while stumbling sometimes didn't even become a factor, not to mention running in the fight was just bad because you couldn't act outside of the initial run for so long, making walking a better option anyway oh you guys hate that Luigi is down being ultimate, you'll hate crushing 4 Luigi's that way I could kill them on zero on any character, I'd say I had the best edge tool in all of Smash 4.
Not only was it literally like every cooldown, but even if you just traded one attack on downbeat they all went off, it was Absolutely ridiculous and also killed a lot up. faster than they gained a max, plus every character could kill you like zero, I swear, the only characters that didn't actually attack you, I know this sounds funny in context, but the cloud didn't actually shoot you, so much cloud just broke. overall but it didn't kill you randomly at zero every character will just steal from you essentially cloud would be a better character than you essentially it's amazing how wacky this game was i think if we were to make a level. list of the most broken smash games you have to smash them because there's just no competition oh my god dude i remember what people were complaining about if i said i can make videos about this people in the comments will be like oh my god ".
I guess he's the most boring character in the game and now if you pick ike it's like oh pog ike, oh that's exciting, ooh you know, he used to be like the hated kick because people saw him as a good easy character, but then you know. everything is gone, it's crazy how this video is practically dedicated to highlighting all the bad and wacky things about Ultimate from Gameboy's perspective, but in my opinion, a lot of the things he mentions in this video are just for comedic purposes, but also the fact that a lot of these things, while in short they look broken, it turns out that two years later, in retrospect, watching this, almost everything in this video ended up okay, well, there are some things that are still pretty stupid, like Luigi's grab combos, but the last one is incredibly. balanced and it's actually a very impressive testament to how they managed to make a game with almost 100 characters this balance the amount of jank in this game is very small the amount of character balance almost all can be purchased except the super bank characters essentially Lo which I'm sure they'll eventually fix with a patch and they keep adding character after character with the two battle passes right now and yet the characters don't seem to break the game like we haven't.
I had a character like Bayonetta or Cloud Tier and Smash 4 or Mana Knight Tier that just breaks the game. We haven't had anything like that and I think it's a really great testament to how they managed to find the balance. In this game I feel like I was in Smash 4 Band and Nanko was trying to figure out what they were doing because that's why the bounce was so weird but in the end they actually figured it out so I don't know I still think the funniest glitch ever times was the infinite trophy bug where you could win like a million assist trophies, that has to be one of the funniest random things they added to the game.
Stuff like that was always really cool. It's also very hard for games to break completely because patches like melee and fighting were much easier to break and I'm sure if brawl had any kind of patch or melee didn't have any kind of patch it would probably things would have been patched, probably all the things we look back on and say, man. It's stupid that it's in the game, they probably would have been patched. The developers had time or more time with the game. I guess what this all boils down to is that if developers have time to work on a game, the games tend to be much more polished. smash 64 was successful enough to introduce a basic concept that back then was the complicated concept that became melee bro and then those two were so successful and they managed to bring in a new development team and they managed to attract all these amazing people who worked in smash today and managed to raise all the necessary funds to make this ambitious crossover project what it is today, I mean smash 4, even though it is as trash as they come, it is still one of the most innovative games that introduced things like Cloud is in a video game that is not Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts, right, and it is a Nintendo game.
However, I am a fighting game. He can fight Mario and Sonic. This ambition was only possible thanks to the team, but I truly believe that the latter is the best. The best hit game ever made, maybe not in every category, but overall the package is so strong. Now you know, what I really want to see is them fixing the online play, that would be nice, anyway, it was a really good watch. just remembering and going over each game and reviewing everything a little bit now I know I didn't have much to say about Smash 64 simply because there wasn't much to talk about the game, it's nice.
Broken and pretty crazy, but almost all the mechanics that are in 64 are gone so it's hard for me to add much input, as always I hope you enjoy talking through all the games and giving something back. You have some interesting comments to start, as always I hope you enjoyed today's video and I'll see you in tomorrow's video at 10am. m. and make sure to keep those alerts notified with that saying, see you thanks for watching.
