SAMSUNG GALAXY BOOK 3 PRO/360/ULTRA Hands-On (deutsch): Notebooks mit Top-Technik

Frank from GIGA, I'm here at Samsung and Samsung just introduced new laptops. This is the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra, the jewel in the crown, the mother of all new Samsung laptops. And let's take a closer look at it now, along with the other models. But only briefly. This is the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra. This is basically the best equipped version of the new Samsung laptop line. This is even the model at the highest level of expansion. There is an i9-13900H processor here, an RTX 4070 in the mobile version. So here you can definitely run machine learning algorithms or even play a game.

That's pretty crazy. And 32 GB of RAM, really good features. A big thing here is, of course, the display, which comes directly from Samsung. This is not a classic IPS or another LCD, but rather an OLED panel with a very high resolution. Samsung calls it 3K, i.e. 2880 x 1800. 16:10 picture ratio, so there is a little more space in height here. Especially good for people who want to edit videos while traveling, for example. This AMOLED display can have a brightness of up to 500 nits and of course also supports a high contrast rate. HDR and, what I personally think is very good, 120Hz.

So the animations here are nice and smooth, if you like it and set them that way. Before we get into the basics, a little more about home office suitability. Up here in the box we have a 1080p webcam. Here is a keyboard with, I would say, very good pressure points. This is a chiclet keyboard as we know it. What's cool is this huge, very responsive touch panel. There is also a keyboard with number keys. That is also missed in most laptops. Although the device has a 16-inch screen, it is still relatively compact, especially in relation to its high performance.

In this case, this is a maximum of 12.8 mm at the thickest point. The weight is 1.8 kilos. It's not necessarily the lightest model, but like I said, it's 16 inches. I think it's a good compromise if you want to do really heavy workloads while traveling, as they say. And since we have the device here, let's take a look at the sides and see all the ports and plugs that we have here. So, this is a micro SD card slot. This is a USB-A slot. Classic, it's nice that you can still connect older devices to it. Here there is a jack socket for headphones and microphones.

On the other hand, here HDMI. However, only HDMI 2.0. These are two USB Type-C sockets, each with Thunderbolt 4 capability. As a desktop device, that is, for work, this is sufficient. Here you can connect two monitors in 4K resolution with up to 120 Hertz. However, HDMI only supports 4K60 and that's a shame if you want to connect it to a TV, for example. When it comes to the inner workings of the Ultra version of the Galaxy Book 3, there are basically two processor configurations. One with i7, another with i9. The smallest has an integrated RTX 4050 from Nvidia. The largest is an RTX 4070.

Of course, in the mobile version of this generation of graphics cards. But you know, they also have a little bit of leeway, I would say, thanks to DLSS 3.0, for example in games. And also increase the frame rate a little. So there should be enough provision for mobile games here. Just a quick trip to the store. The device has a TDP of 45 watts. Accordingly, it should be equipped with a 45 watt power supply. Samsung is very proud of the fact that all power supplies here work with USB Type C. This way, you can use a power adapter to charge Samsung laptops, as well as smartphones and tablets.

It's also especially important for Samsung to emphasize that they are strengthening the ecosystem a little here. Basically, it can make Samsung devices work better together with other Samsung devices. For example, you can simply use a Galaxy Tab, if you have one, as an external monitor. Everything can be done with just a few clicks. You can also exchange data between Galaxy laptops and smartphones using drag and drop. Even if you have your smartphone next to you, you can also operate it at the same time with your laptop's keyboard and mouse. Samsung offers all of these options. Of course, this is also known from other ecosystems, for example from Apple, for example from Huawei.

But of course it's nice that Samsung is also letting its device families grow a little bigger. Of course, it would also be nice if everything was a little more open, so that it could also work with other device manufacturers. This is now the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360. Because it is convertible, which means with the help of these 360 ​​degree hinges I can basically rotate the device completely so I can use it as a tablet. I can also use it with this shape of roof, so to speak, and I even carry with me an S-Pen with which I can paint on the touch screen, which is the only model with a touch screen with which I can, for example, paint pictures and things like that.

Both the Pro and Pro 360 models only have a TDP of 28 watts, so they have a slightly lower level of performance. As for the connections, there is a difference with the Ultra model. This is just an HDMI 1.4 port. This means that if you connect a 4K monitor or television to it, you will only be able to use it at 30 Hertz and I think that is a shame. Samsung is a bit complicated here, but otherwise we have the same Thunderbolt 4 ports. The Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 is also the only laptop in the entire family that is also available with a 5G modem.

However, this is also a component that Samsung is paying more for. This is basically the base model, the regular Galaxy Book 3, but it is also called the Pro. It exists in two size versions. This is the slightly smaller and more compact version with a 14-inch screen, but here the 16:10 screen also stands out and also the high resolution of this AMOLED screen. This is the device that should be used by people who are a little more mobile, who need to work quickly on the go, but don't necessarily need a lot of computing power to do so, although that's relative too.

Here there is also a variant with an i5 processor and another with an i7 processor from Intel's 13th generation. Intel Xe graphics only, but there should still be enough performance for most workloads. But like I said, this is more of a basic model. Friends, this is a luxurious and quite large model that is mainly aimed at so-called content creators, people like you and me, but also gamers like you and me. 16 inches, which of course is relatively large, but the device is nice and slim and really makes a good impression. The only thing that bothers me a little is the fact that it only has HDMI 2.0.

If you want to connect it to the TV to play games, for example, I think it's a shame that it only works in 4K60. . Otherwise, well, we have Thunderbolt here for emergencies.
