IOWA GOBBLER HEADSHOT (Insane Drumming Audio)

Apr 30, 2024
Welcome again. Spring in Iowa, it's like mid-March. We have many things we want to do today. The first thing we're going to do this morning is the guys arrived, probably a couple of days ago and on the same ridge we were on. mowing and clearing last year we had a lot more work to do and they burned a few more spots that we want to get into right at the tip of this ridge there's another big Hickory Flat shag crust down on that Ridge, there's another um and you know, no I'm an expert, but the more I learn about this, it's like every time you know that all your situations are totally different.

You know I'm a huge Jeff Sturgis fan and he's like cutting hinges. It's not for everyone and it's definitely not, but in our case we have so many weedless Giant Hickory and we're trying to get in there and open up some sunlight for the weeds and I'll show you a little bit later. one that was made like a Ridge that was made three years ago, we have another Ridge that was made last year and then obviously we'll do one this year and just show its progression and how much weeds and how many stakes and how many eyebrows have come up for these deer and we have this big ridge that we're just trying to get you to know the value and use the property as much as possible because a big open park-like ridge, uh, it's not very useful. there's not a lot of Oaks and if it's Oaks, they're crowded, um, no bedding cover, no brows, just if it's that Ridge, they're really just passing through, they're not really doing much so they try to get rid of some.

More Interesting Facts About,

The trees create instant cover in addition to opening up the subsoil, obviously we already burned it. Well, we hoarded it and burned it just to get out all the little multi-floral rows of Scrappy and all the invasive trash, so we're going to do that today. We're going to hang some trail cameras today for the turkeys and we're going to put up some turkey spots, really not even blinds, just more spots and situations that we can get into, leave it down here, set up a decoy and we're on. It's good to go in the morning with the bow, so I run through the bow to hunt turkey, ideally prepared for the bow, which I like to do, yes, it's spring time to do some things, upgrade the helmet and Andrew He's making fun of me, but he could have done it.

I have the ones that have uh this, they were dyed, but I decided not to. I thought you would make fun of me even more. Hey, I gotta keep all my smart brain cells contained. I realized that it is a great thing. during shedding season, I'm like marked, but these little white rings are what I wanted to do hinges, especially now, um, very quick little dots, just a couple of hours we did that one and I'm still hoping here maybe another one. day I can get in here, but it's good to use, especially during shed season, even you know, going around in areas where you just want to get in, hinge and cut.

I don't know, maybe 30 trees, probably 30 or 40 something like that. like that, but now we're in transition, we're going to do some turkey stuff, we get to the famous turkey blind that we shot the turkey last year, but it needs a little TLC, it's always good to come here and if you do the natural thing. blind natural blind are mainly setups you know, I like sitting on the ground shooting turkeys, especially with the bow, it's more fun, it looks better for video, you can see everything of course, it's always okay if you open a blind and hunt. but I love to see it and hear it and add the challenge, we're in this field, honestly, we were hunting with Derek at the end of the season, a bunch of turkeys are always there, they roost on this river bank right here and all those big trees that you can slide on, in fact, there's a big tree there too, they roost in those big trees and, uh, there's a good chance every morning that something will fly into the field and I love running Jake's only half prop like a good and high quality one, it really works.
I've used a couple different brands, but it's a good, high quality Jake half prop, and especially early in the season, like April, soon, if you get to May, they get a little more, um, not as aggressive, I I feel. um but they see that bad boy and they get excited and they go up to them um it's a visual thing that's why I love hunting in the field or hunting in open woods when I do it like that with the bow wanting them to come attack the lure or approaching the decoys, a long Jake about 12 to 15 yards.
I love to get tense, like this tree had already fallen and stuff, so we just got in there, um and we. They didn't call or anything, they just come, see the decoy and run and want to kick their butts, so I'm going to put this chair over there to readjust some of these branches and make sure everything's okay. Well, also setting this up, you know, obviously, if you're not filming your hunts, you don't have to worry about it, but we film our hunts, so we have to think about the cameraman situation, so throw out all those cameramen.
Here you can see well and then I'll be down right there so it'll be like an over the shoulder shot and that's how we got the shot from last year. I feel like any type of production stuff is really awesome if you get the settings dialed in if it's deer hunting, turkey hunting. I mean, it's the kind of deal where it's like preparation, you get more success and more interesting things, so we get our spots and we access, you know, thinking about our access, we stumble over here, we go down, we have perch trees , perch trees, perch trees, perch trees fly into this field and, uh, we're going to be good, so I definitely want us to clean this up a little bit more and get it. brushed a little bit I have to hide a big cat this time just level my chair a little more but I'll be there you'll be there just over the shoulder that's blind number one I like it I would love to have three just in case we need to mix things up in a couple different spots, setup number two is done, we actually had all the brush we needed, we just cleared a little spot on this, this is a little Clover food plot on the edge of a big corn field and we have tons of Perch options around us and they usually land there and then slowly make their way towards this patch of Clover before heading to this main corn, so set up these little spots, little setup. places in areas where there are already turkeys, but what I might do here as well is now is a good time to put up a couple of tactical cameras as well, um, because this is a ni, I mean, this is going to be Clover, this is going to be a normal thing. .
Um, you know, the road that the turkeys will travel until turkey season is over, so maybe we'll put a trail camera right here, right in front of this blind, and we'll see what's going on, yeah, she's . I'm not going anywhere today is going to be my opening day of turkey season, it's a couple days away, but we just got to a permit farm that has a lot of birds, so we have to close the view this morning, though , uh, I decided not to hunt our pre-made blinds just because I want to hunt this place and there are a lot of turkeys.
I saw a lot of turkeys in the fall, so I know there are a lot of us who are going to sit right on the edge. of this Big River Bottom are hidden in this little corner of this field, so we cut down some Cedars, we have to drag them with us, prepare, we probably have a lot of time, so we have 40 minutes until it's legal. It lights up so we only have a 250 to 300 yard walk here, we get ready and hopefully it's just in time for them to gobble right as we sit down. I bet right when we sit down and get ready, and you're like tuning up. on camera my predictions are going to appear, the birds are flying down right now, we don't have anything really close, but we have a bunch of them on this river bank, I don't know, they're probably 800,000 yards away and then we get some They crossed this pretty good sized river in the neighbors field and flew over there so we had to sit and see where they disperse too early they will be super dry so one isn't too far away. right behind us, like that, dude, give me a friend, oh my God, like that, I was like Andrew, I think I think one flew down.
I'm like, okay, like two flew in that direction, one flew down and then it's like. I heard it and I thought, I literally said, I heard spitting and I just turned on the camera and looked and he was flying, that was like Stone Cold, he saw me come to draw completely a little bit and he liked looking at that, looking at that, God. I told you we were going to do a little killing spree which was stupid, that's how it's supposed to work right there. Oh my first kill with the new turkey bow also this thing is equipped with a short little St stabilizer, super light, only 60 lbs. the perfect deal we give it a minute as fast as kick but it's a beautiful bird spring turkey man bow I'm like shaking just do it it's like the adrenaline rush happens right after because just me he literally flew down and it was just like here now same beard we have a beard yeah just a thick rope we gotta go get the triple beard oh yeah we gotta go we saw a triple beard just a beautiful bird I love Iowa Easterns like any other big old Eastern like this just a big one old rope on them comes running in the head helicopter made a deal with them maybe I have to censor that but perfect

I mean my big push this year I don't like the Grafica the gory and We're not trying to glorify that, but my big thing this year that I've been pushing, that's why we made the turkey arrows, that's why we've been talking about it, so if you want to bow hunt turkeys.
The most ethical thing to do is shoot them in the head. The wound rate on turkeys is incredibly high with the bow when you shoot them at the body. So I'm trying to push like you're trying to shoot the Bohan turkeys. you know, let's try chewing them on the head, that's what I feel is right, especially for Bohan turkeys, just because the R wound is incredibly high because it's incredibly difficult to shoot a turkey in the body, so we fix this. I've gotten over it a few times and get it flowing every time I get on the lures and things like go
