641bhp BMW M2 review. With 40% more power, this Litchfield M2 is wild..

May 02, 2024
Well, welcome to a new video from Harry's Garage and today's car is the BMW M2 g87, the latest version, and if you're a regular Harry's Garage watcher, you're going to say: wait a minute, haven't you tried one of those before? Well, I have done it. Last summer I had a blue Xanor one here and we got along well. This one is very different. This one has been at Lichfield Motors and they've added some horse

power

, quite a bit of horse

power

and a lot of talk and made modifications to the suspension and it caught my eye. I think wait a minute.

I think I have to revisit

stock car with 460 metric horsepower and

one with 641 horsepower torque which also increases by 40% and makes a dramatic difference in how it runs. drive as you will see in a moment. I'm not going to go into all the details about this car because I did in the previous video. I'll put a link there so you can see it if you want to know everything. details, but I think in black the kind of look calms down a little bit because it did, it's just this square block look that looks a little clunky.

The style, but the black disguises it and if you come from the side, I think the muscle. I've always liked the muscle that doesn't because of the way the Arches are really pumped up, but now these fluid alloy wheels save 2.4 kilos per wheel, which is quite a lot, but improve the appearance, I can't. I have black wheels at best, but on the M2 they looked horrible, what a difference it looks with the smoke type look, there is a brake dust here because I was there yesterday, but that helps and it also has It also has a kit to lower the chassis so it has adjustable platforms and that just dropped it and just the wheels look better it's working so you know in Mitland Pilots for s instead of cup two that was an option in this car.

I think it's I also got the Trap package on this car and then on the rear, the only change here, this one has acrapovic exhaust which I'm mixed up, but it's an essential part of the TuneIn package. Other things you should know, black again. disguise it, why is it so clumsy here? This rear diffuser just stops there, that's not going to do anything. As for the arrows, there is also another comment on this one. It has the carbon roof as standard, but it has a muscular look when I look around. this car now and having seen it on the road and what it offers reminds me of the Maserati Shamar, it's pumped up, you're not quite sure if it's really ugly or really pretty, think alpha SZ if you like the 80's monster, That's the kind of vibe I get from this car, but what it's really about is how it puts out 641 horsepower.

I think it could be pretty exciting, let's take it outside. You Come Alive. Yes, the difference between this one and the other one I've

ed. Yeah, these seats have the track package, so they have all kinds of extras and there's a fancy traction control device and these seats, you look at them and they look super aggressive, but they have padded side bases when you get in. You don't have a hard carbon look but they do have that weird part in the middle that I don't really understand and interestingly they are all electric which is strange, you would expect that as part of this package they wouldn't be electric but they are and they tilt to give easy access to the rear and owners comment that it's much roomier here than the previous generation M2 which is good and a manual is now an option on this 550 last time I looked it should just saying the track package is expensive now £99,950 extra here, yeah I have, you've got wireless charging there, um decent, I mean, because it's B based on a normal car, the M2, you get the kind of places you know . to put bottles.
You have a glove box with good storage, but what it comes down to is all the noise and all the sounds that this car makes and, yes, initial start, there you go, it has the trick exhaust, but you really wouldn't. I know if I go home here yeah this is the other thing this is the kind of standard setup here it tells me what mode I'm in I'm in efficient mode there's efficient sports or Sports Plus it sounds a little crazy to call this car efficient because it doesn't really. it's about that, but it does the best it can anyway, so yeah, the WRA round dash design, we just have to get used to it, it's not pretty but it's extremely functional and there's a huge amount of information there and I love it. the way you can adjust elements to bring it to your car, one of the things I'll have to do in a moment is remove the speed warnings.
I decided that my front drive is 20 thousand hours, it's not, but um, it will sound. me, so I have to turn off all those warnings otherwise everything gets a little crazy, but anyway let's go out and see what this car is all about. I'm normal, just getting away from here, yeah, well, that didn't take long to figure out. at 60 I'm going to say that a lot in this

review

I think, but yeah, it's pretty civilized in its normal configuration, the way I have it now, you can see all the things there, it's just comfort in the suspension.
I have standard shocks on this car and they adjust on every parameter, like I say there are so many adjustments on these BMWs now. I really like what they've done and I can forgive the steering wheel because it's still too thick, BMW, but you'll stick with this and you've been at this since, well, I don't know about the 90s I guess, but you have the M1 and M2 buttons which are simply brilliant and give access to your personal settings, and forgive the steering wheel. having those two levers there I tried it on my noisy road and it came out at 75 DB so it's civilized despite all the adjustments despite the trick exhaust yes it can be used every day it's not noisy yes you know , it's a good setup, there's no escaping the electric steering feel that comes with this car, everyone had to move it for Lan's departure reasons, but I'm interested to see if it's been tuned with all that work you've literally done removing the rubber bushing.
It's one of those things where you don't feel as connected as you thought you should with your M2 and you go into second gear and do the uphill squirt, here we go, yes, yes, I can confirm that those 600 and Sumon horses are very healthy . and ready to gallop at a moment's notice, as demonstrated up there, it's lively, yes, it gives the tires a lot of work and I'm on M2 now so there's a bit

more

exhaust noise. I'll be back home yeah so we're in sport still in Suspension Comfort sport steering suspension and brake comfort yeah I never understand why they feel like you have to adjust the feel of the brakes on a car like This one, you should have a brake. field that you get used to every time you get in the car, it's a good gear change to use too.
I have to remember that it blinks on its own so I'll shift into third gear, there you go, that wasn't me in second gear, yes I can. Do that too, yeah, let's focus on what we have suspension in normal comfort like termit and this is my complicated path for such an extreme car. This is excellent, really excellent, very easy to live with. I like the way we have these adjustable. shock absorbers here. I'm surprised how good it feels down here. There's a bit of control, but the mainspring sorts out the actual feel as you go down the road.
I don't feel like I'm in a modified car. could be standard and the M2 was surprisingly good on a road like this, before you knew it Litfield was getting close to it, well there, yeah, turning that sharp. I'm just playing with change even now because it's fun, well, ah, now. There's a difference there, there's a connection there that you were missing, your previous standard M2. I took it around and you just trust it, there really wasn't anything that really came through the direction that felt sharper and there was just a hint of feel through the W, it just feels tight, but I mean from the steering point of view, rather than the suspension being tighter, so I'm impressed, it's the right time for some things I like and don't like about this car.
I noticed it during the time I used it. I'll take it out of M1 to close it up a bit. Yes, the brakes grip. I'm not really sure why they cling so much. I was hoping it was just a setup, but when you jumped. It's the first time you have to control your braking like the Audi of the past, but the brakes are super powerful and there are no complaints about the power. You don't lack carbon brakes in this car, it has exceptional power, another one from time to time if I put it in sport. It's too sharp, I find it on the highway, the throttle movement and when you're trying to get out of a junction it's a little clunky, that's why I keep putting it back into efficient, it's just off the line.
I would like a slightly different map oh it just feels alive this car oh it explodes and explodes W it's a

wild

wild

ride but I think it's incredibly controllable it has this drift button m o control um track control variable works like a dream I can't get over how well it works, I have it in three blobs and it just makes the car feel like that, but even in normal mode it controls this wild torrent of 646 horsepower much better and it's the torque, the torque is monstrous, a huge number of 560 foot-pounds. The power of today's Porsche 992 Turbo S is basically what I have in this one, not as much as about 20 feet of power less, but almost, and I weighed this car and it was less than what BMW said, they stayed at 1700 kilos. put this on the scale 1660 kilos yes, it has lighter wheels and it has the lighter exhaust, so you save about half of that weight, but the rest I don't know if it's the seats or whatever, it weighs 16 60 kilos and 46 horsepower pushing it down the road and all that torque, well, it's 4,000 RPM.
The peak torque is absolutely animalistic, it's precisely what you imagine a 640 OD or roughly M2 feels like, but I feel like I'm in control, it's so naughty and because it has such a good system, the smart differential, traction controls etc, it feels

more

controllable than it has any right to now. Obviously all of these modifications on this car come at a cost, but I think they're pretty reasonable, which is why the ECU gets this horsepower. it actually has to be sent to Finland to unlock the main ECU and that costs £17.95 but it's programmable so you can program the pops and explosions if you don't want them and can't you?
I forgot to mention it. limited in first and second in this car, um third gear, I need to be in third before I get the maximum performance and the full horsepower and talk, which is very smart, I think it's a good thing to do, but all of that is programmable and once you buy the car you can do it on your phone activate an app spring platforms to lower the ride height and have those wheels fill the arches 1495 for that suspension all the links they can't adjustable toe At the rear, new steering arms. that's around £2,000. I think the big cost, which is a surprise, is the cost of the exhaust.
There is a Miltech rear exhaust system. I think it was 2,600, but the C exhaust I have here and then it's a little over £6,200 and then the Other major costs are the wheels and tyres. I think it's around 52,000, so there are £6,000 worth of mods on this car, but I think you can save some there. I wouldn't make the wheels. It would have the standard wheels. painted silver I think, and the exhaust, yeah, not sure I'd go all the way. I'm tempted to save 8 kilos, but let's get it out of here. My goodness it's a fast car yes and if Look at them in the rating yes m2 even after a year with 52 53 000 2000 3000 miles and a dealer will give you around £8000 off talking to Lichfield.
It's really interesting what's happening in Lichfield now because the previous generation of the M2 you know. The second and third owner got them, he's actually adding kits to those and ECU mods and stuff, one or two of them a day. I can see Happ in this car because where else can you get a 600 something two wheel drive front engine manual type? horsepower car for about 50 60,000 I can see this being a real car in the future, now it really is and I like the way I've gotten used to the look and in this black it disguises the parts, the uncomfortable parts , the square part in the front and the overhang and now this is just funny, it has me looking at the classifier, say KY, how can you get close to that?
I think if you think about it, it's Aston Martin Vantage, the new one, which has 670 horsepower, but it's just a paddle shifter. only shifts and about 100,000 more than this car but this is a small group of wonderful cars that I didn't expect to see in 2024 25 but here is BMW making their electric cars and rubbish I5 but they also make the M2 and I haven't had as much fun like in the last days. It handles exactly how you'd imagine a 640 horsepower M2 would handle and I like the way it drives. I feel connected to him. I like the modifications. so yeah, I enjoyed my time with him.
