Has WARN Lost Their Mind? 16.5 Ti-s Winch

Mar 16, 2024
welcome back friends to the store today's video was made possible thanks to our friends at Simply Safe in today's video we are going to install the largest

winch

that Warren makes on the new F350 Super Duty. Oh, take a look at this thug. This is Warren's new one. uh 16 16.5 ti 16.5,000 pounds of straight line pull, this thing is an absolute monster, as far as I know, from the big consumers, this is as big as it gets with a good duty cycle and thermal protection. This is not a sponsored video that I paid for. full retail for this, I like to know that when I watch videos just so you know I can be objective, I would love to advise that they make the best

winch

es, absolutely the best when I was going to make the original port loaded winch.

I didn't get in touch about the Badlands apex that failed, so when we were removing the stump, this is the winch I wanted. I was hoping it would work for us, but it didn't, so this is what it was. My dream winch here is 16.5 ti, so this is a big boy. Here we have the large 12 volt electric motor that is powered by a huge set of planetary gears. Just look at the size of this gear head, which is something else. there you don't know anything fancy, you know, just old school basics, keep it simple, keep it simple, make the principle work and that's what I like when it comes to winches.

Now you can get them with metal or synthetic cable. I chose the synthetic. It's a little more money, but it's a lot nicer to work with, but look, this is a big old thing. At 90 feet from the synthetic line, we have the synthetic cables right there, nicely polished and finished. It would be great to have them. that worn out logo there, you guys know it all, they gave us the nice forged hook, did you know that little detail at the end is a bottle opener? I just found out about it from watching another guy's YouTube video, here's our controller and now instead of the normal five pins we're all used to, there are six pins and I'm guessing that will power the thermal protection.

Now this is unique to this winch, it has a pre. a large, longer duty cycle, meaning it can run longer, but because it is so powerful and so large, they have built-in thermal protection, so this light is supposed to come on to let the user know that Hey, the engine is warming up. Be, let it cool and that's a good thing because other than putting your hand on it you wouldn't know and that's hard to do when they're hidden under the bumpers. What else do we have here? We've got the line protector and then of course our hardware and then here's our solenoid pack that's also going to mount on top and that's where our controller is going to connect with a little bump to

that if you're going to charge three grand dollars for a winch, it would be nice if the The sticker did not peel off or delaminate from the factory.

I thought it was a bit shabby. We'll stick it back in there, but you know, I mean if you're a premium brand you don't need to have things like that because they stick. in the boy's craw, you know, even though everything else is perfect, you see things like that and it just diminishes, you know, it's just me, but I'm kind of funny with that stuff, all our cables are ready to go, color coordinated, pretty simple. I think it should be easy, so let's see if I have the horsepower to mount this under that bumper. Alright, you guys are ready to go, I'm not going to leave the port loading legs there at Haws, they call them Haws Lead.
I think the roller fair cables are for wire, steel or cable, they are not suitable for synthetic. This bumper, if you're wondering, is a bumper. I think they are the two classics that they built for me. A beautiful bumper. the entire bottom is 3 8 aluminum, very nice and sturdy, I chose the aluminum because it saved me a lot, it basically saved me the weight of the winch, so the savings you get with the steel basically offset the winch when you start hanging everything this. The weight in the front, you know, that also affects your suspension, so that's good, and then the synthetic line is also significantly lighter than the steel cable that I've had, if it was going to be something really heavy, registering and filling the steel cable.
It's superior, it's more durable, but it's hard to work with, it's hard on your hands and stuff, and the synthetic material is much safer, it doesn't carry all that energy. This is the access panel on the top of the bumper, so we'll remove this and this will give us the ability to plug in our remote and then change our clutch and also help with the rope feed. Let's see here if I can fight to lift this thing. I guess the clutch handle. It will go on the driver's side. I guess it will fit. I hope I don't have to remove the bumper to fit this big planetary head.
Oh, like a glove, the winch has plenty of room. I need to turn it 180 here to align the feet and the question will be do we have room for the solenoid pack in the factory bracket, if not we may have to stack it. Oh, that clutch handle is hanging off. custom mount to relocate that solenoid pack, we'll get to that here in a second, there we go, oh no, I've got it backwards, fingers crossed guys what's the chance of the solenoid pack fitting into these tight confines? Surely I would make it? easy if you saw that, that's good engineering for you, they built it, so it sits very low right under that engine and I still have an inch and a half to spare.
There is a hole drilled and tapped right there. on the top of that housing and they've given us a cap screw that has a pretty good design because the guys are going to mount them on all the different types of bumpers that you know there are, so it's got to be difficult for engineers to design something that will fit most applications when you don't really know what's out there because it's not possible to test everything, but that's a pretty good option, but they gave you so many mounting options that you know those ovals in there and that's it. no problem, it's actually perfect, make sure the lid is on and then we'll be ready to go.
I play it backwards every time, yeah, there we go, man, that's tailor-made, isn't it? Could not be better. It looks like they want us to use six bolts to mount these four on the front two on the bottom we have four long and four short just check this twice and we'll start with these guys the bracket seemed to line up perfectly. the lock washers on the inside, if you are trying to determine what size winch you need for your rig, which

warn

s they have a formula, simply take the gross weight of the vehicle, for example, let's say it's ten thousand pounds and then multiply by one. point five, which is equivalent to a fifteen thousand pound winch or at or close to that is the size that they are, so when you see the eight thousand and the nine thousand, you know if you are putting it on a jeep wrangler or a small light truck , you can make that decision, this is a license plate bracket and then we'll use the short bolts and the lock washers here, this will serve a dual purpose here, we'll go through and hold the winch on as well as the license plate, okay, that's cool Simply Secure is an effective and reliable security system that you can install yourself.
How do I know I've done it? Two of them have all kinds of sensors that can cover everything from wireless cameras to glass break sensors to freezing and water sensors, you can simply order them over the phone or online, they will deliver everything to your house and usually , you will be able to have the system installed and running in less than an hour, simply save at home, one of the best things about it is simply safe, there are no contracts that you can cancel at any time, you can also enjoy coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, if an alarm goes off, it could be smoke, it could be a glass break sensor, they will call the fire department, they will call the police department and they will stay on the line with you until they make sure everything is okay .
Our friends at Simply Safe asked me to share my favorite feature of the system. It's an easy question. It is the new wireless camera. Now I spend a lot of time on it. my editing room and it's dark there I'm like a mushroom in the dark and I can't see anything that's going on when the baby is playing outside all I have to do is tap my app on the phone and it activates the camera and I can see everything, I can even talk to her, we can have back and forth communication, look at this, it's you looking at me looking at me on my camera in real time from anywhere, that's cool, right?
I really like the wireless camera guys when Sweet Bread used to come see me when Mrs. W was gone and she would ask me if she could play in her sandbox. I said no, you know someone has to look. I want to watch you now. Every time I say yes, I turn on my phone, prop it up while I work. I can keep an eye on her. It's really wonderful. If you want to get 30 percent off your system right now, you can safely visit us. dot com forward slash wrangler star and get your own system thanks for watching and let's get back to the video we're ready to connect our cables.
The manufacturers finally figured it out and gave us the right contacts or the right accessory bolts for our accessories, so what? What I'm going to do is have an air compressor and the lights on this stud here, but I'm going to put this first because I want it to have the best contact to install the winch, now we can get our synthetic. line set up here we have to do two things, look at this, this is a nice little piece, a little machine piece that is now going to clip onto the drum and that's what we're going to use to hold this on and then we'll get started. wrapping the drum now on this end here on the business end I've never seen a synthetic cable this big before it's kind of big we have this really cool hook here so we can make this pretty simple to get over the old pliers trick there I cut my hands with these, not having them bent back, they're pretty sharp, you get old pliers like this, they just lose them, they're just not sharp anymore, you know, you think those things don't wear out, but sometimes these things just wear out and It is better to change them for a new one.
Okay, what's wrong with that? Nice and clean. Let's do a quick test run to make sure it works. Engage the clutch and/or we're in and upside down, so we're going to wind the cable down on the bottom, come down, let's break up our line here, I'm going to roll, I'm going to wind this on the drum, but we want to take it out again when we go. outside, when the weather is better, the better and I roll it again under tension. I learned since the last time I did it. I did some damage to my synthetic line because I didn't wind it under tension and it absorbed itself and became damaged, so I'm not going to make that mistake with this with the line this time, but we can at least put it on the drum line through the haws to the bottom and I guess this little one, yeah, I guess.
We can probably just mount it to it so it stays there with a little Allen wrench, that's pretty fancy, wouldn't you say what do you think we should have the hook here or should we do it the other way around? here, man, that's loud, that's the loudest winch I've ever heard. Well, I'll do it the other way around from top to bottom here, maybe over here, follow this route here, play there and get your fingers into it. What do you think I liked the other way around? Well, that's it, it's about truck construction. Yeah, I can't think of anything else I would do to him, that's what I was putting off.
I had been putting it off and when we had the first snow I thought, man, I had to put that winch in there, I guess I was putting it off because I only did the test doing things twice and when that went through this whole process. with that port cargo, that eight or what was the apex, something apex and when and when it ate itself, taking it all out there and doing it again, you know, it's never as fun the second time, but this is what it should have originally done. if you want if you want the best then you want Warren and this is again what is one of those things where it's hard to compromise on if you're talking it's a life safety thing for me you know that kind of thing when you do it you need. it's in the middle of the night and you're in trouble or someone's in trouble or in the ditch you just need it to work you just can't have a failure uh it's just not acceptable to me so now I know that we We're ready and with 16.5 000 pounds of straight line traction and you know, now we're at 30,000 pounds, if we throw a block there, I'm not going to do the inline Mavs in the video, you know. that, but, that's a man that has incredible voting power, the last one I had was 9,000, so this is almost double what you can calculate with these big trucks, I mean, if you get in the ditch with a big truck like this and you have you know, a big mobile snowball trailer, you have a big caravan, I mean that winch9,000 pounds, you know, that just doesn't happen and it has long duty cycles and heavy-duty construction, yeah, I know it's expensive, but when you're in the snow storm in the middle of the night and you get out of it and you sleep in your own bed, you forget about that extra money you spent and could have saved on a no name brand that can't be trusted as we saw well so that's it, thanks for watching, God bless you and to your families, please keep us in your prayers and see you in the next video here is a piece here is a piece of the housing the port loading wedge I don't think they want to get it back
