internet

and of course Jay's favorite brand of tea. Yorkshire Tea always takes the advice of an Englishman when it comes to tea because this stuff is divine anyway. Today's episode will be about uh, how I managed to not go crazy without the Internet for two

weeks

, right before I moved

here

were like contact details for plumbers, um people you might know how to vacuum your carpet and then like the mail service guy or like the mail service or the post office box subscription, some kind of car, some kind of jazz and , no, no, there were approximately 20 brochures there. Internet providers already know about Internet services, so I saw the brochures and thought: yes, it makes a lot of sense for me to have Internet here, since my entire career depends on the Internet, but then I thought again. Do I really need it? The

internet

here is kind of like wires shooting into my brain.

The state library, which is a beautiful library with great internet and it's free. It's right down the street from my apartment. It's like three minutes away, so I could walk there and I thought to myself I'm not going to die without about eight hours of Internet. If I want to use the Internet for specific purposes, like submitting homework or communicating with people or uploading YouTube videos, I could just head to the state library, so I took all their pamphlets in a care package and threw them in the trash and that's basically it. started this whole experiment of living deliberately, so in today's video I want to share some of the lessons that I have learned from this whole process of living without the Internet first, of course, distractions, interestingly enough because we spend most of our lives distracted, Yes, even people in your self-help circles who claim they are not distracted people are still distracted people, there are two ways. of brain function here, like the focus brain mode, like the flow state, there are many names for this, but there's also the normal state, which is like the state you go into when you're cooking a meal.

I have a few gigabytes of data on my phone that I can use for Spotify streaming so I can listen to music, but I can't do anything beyond that, so without internet I found myself going back to all these things I didn't know about and enjoyed For example, reading, listening to music, cooking a meal, that's something that really surprised me. I, you know, when I was hooked on this dopamine rush of the Internet, this hedonistic treadmill of the Internet, I wasn't aware that I had actually enjoyed those things, but now that the Internet is gone, I found myself going back to all the things. which I used to really enjoy as a kid or a teenager or, you know, just now venturing into my early adulthood, I found myself, you know, just reconnecting with some of the weird things that I've enjoyed before the second lesson I learned.
From this whole fiasco of the Internet experiment, my actual Internet use became much more deliberate and I no longer have that craving for the Internet because I have to go down, hit the elevator, you know, make small talk with my neighbors, all the time. process requires effort. that five minute walk to the library that takes effort settling into the library that takes effort after going through this whole ritual you better make sure your time on the internet is worth it you know it's always okay here's a video that I need to upload here is a The task that I have to submit here is one thing that I was going to do but, however, it was swept under the rug because I was busy.
The Internet is just a tool to help us grow. The Internet is just the tool for us to be better. As humans it's not part of us and shouldn't be part of us in a sense, the trip to the library ritualizes this use of the Internet, so it's no longer just a commodity, it's something you're using to get to a place. better for the whole relationship to really change and I think that is one of the most important lessons that I have learned from this whole process and the last lesson that will be very important for people who venture into their twenties or early 30s , which is that sleep improves a lot without the Internet.
I'm not going to cite any scientific studies because you know there are many channels on YouTube that have already done how it works for me, but personally I used to be the type of person who didn't go to bed before 1 a.m. m. just before I wasn't the type of person who went to bed early and got up early, of course, that's like no, I'm like a bohemian person or like you know a crazy person I am. He's not a tidy person who has that kind of temperament, but after getting rid of the Internet, it's really strange how this worked out.
I found myself wanting to relax around 9:00 p.m. m. and I found myself gravitating towards my teapot to make a cup of tea. I found myself wanting to read a chapter of, say, Proust or, say, something else or, say, something that just calms you down. We are not making any judgments here. You know, you can sleep in and that's totally fine if you like that guy. of things, but I don't know, there is a feeling that I am a little calmer and life is a little more orderly and I was actually able to implement habits that really stuck, for example, journaling every day, for example, reading before going to bed every day. a single day and, for example, just making tea on time and eating breakfast on time, those things are difficult for 20-somethings to master, because normally I run out the door and have breakfast on campus, but now, with these few hours I have.
I have saved myself from going to bed early and getting up early. In fact, I've saved quite a few hours just to listen to a podcast where I make a really good breakfast and make my first cup of coffee, so those are a few. of the lessons I learned and I also made the fatal mistake of shining the light out of the window again because you know
