What's inside my Copic Markers? - (Let's Cut them OPEN!)

Apr 09, 2020
catch y'all, I'm jazzy and today I'm finally going to get to the bottom of

what

's inside that elusive alcohol-based marker. I mean, they're not elusive, they're pretty easy to find and locate, but it's not easy. to enter if you know how to make this video for a couple of reasons, the first is that these very cheap yo-yo alcohol

markers

arrived in the mail two years late, a video recorded two years ago that was released that was about buying desire and eBay bookmarks and put it to the test and yes apparently the shipping had something up, I might have wanted to keep more, not two years, two years, how is it different in any way, but it made me wonder why these and all the non - Name equivalents are so cheap compared to kopecks.

What happens inside these things makes this average ten dollars per marker and this, you know, thirty and forty cents, and then we have a nice middle ground marker that's kind of a mid-range thinking ability marker. high. the black spectrum illustrator that is right in the middle of the owner if there is a difference between how efficiently they give you the ink through the tips or the length of the tips inside or the amount of ink that is actually held and

what

the cartridge looks like. I'm really curious and especially because I saw Mirabile as a video where she had sex with guys in a Copic Sketch, so the credit is also there because I partially stole the idea, now I know that my initial joke had the table saw and that was obviously incredibly dangerous and a lot of fun.

I'm starting the video with the explosion. I don't think it's an efficient or clean way to

; in fact, the view I did a couple of years ago where for April Fool's Day I made a tutorial on how to combine kopeks. where I literally put a Copic marker in a blender and remembered that when June passed I expected there to be a lot more liquid and it was like fluff, it was really strange and surprising but we'll get to the bottom of it. Nowadays I know much more clearly why that is, and although the table saw would have been much messier, I think a table of some kind is probably an efficient way to do it, which is why I have my dremel here and print it out. in 3D.

I don't know if this will work, but I 3D printed a small drum that will hold the theory. In theory, there is so much stop fire. I know it was right here while it was on the runway, of course it was. of these I think it's like oh look there it's oh look that, yeah, you feel like a miniature saw looks dangerous, look at this, it's just missing, so the theory is that you set the moment to like it, okay, okay, that's fine, so this is denying this. film except I need to stabilize it because there's nothing to break down, we'll get there.

I like to make more videos about the removal process. figuring out everything you shouldn't do along the way to figuring out how to do what you really wanted to do. observation time, this is not my solution to make it incredibly safe and stable, I say how stable will it be, we have never been there and the map let me just ski and then the guy because the distinction that we seem pretty stable, this is I'm not going to go nowhere as scary as ever. Can we just do a mini montage of all the power tools I've used?
How do I react when using

them

? I'm professional. I should play rollin while I move things. I'm professional. If that is all. Sums it up pretty well. I think we're going to go up in price, so let's start cheap and see if there are any unpleasant surprises. I actually want to do this, it's not me, as it's possibly well on the cheap. The alcohol-based marker is this one. We have a fairly long chisel tip, but it goes inside a very basic kind of shell. I'm going to be the white card over here and I'm just going to place this on top so you can see it very clearly.
It just has the The shell and the inside has the chisel, look, it's a pretty long stem, but not everything goes inside the ink here, there's just a little bit left there and I guess that stem just pulls it all up, then we have the ink inside of this and Look at that, like a little door, we have the other end of the marker, so it's a separate piece of plastic from the casing, which otherwise is like the whole pen is just a piece of plastic and then you insert this thing that has the brush tips and when I say brush knee, it's not a visit brush, it's a bullet tip, so it's not really like that after that you can't get pressure sensitivity or anything for that matter. the style, and I imagine the brush tips and brush tips are probably just more expensive to produce so it's hard to get good

markers

cheaper and I guess this is a matter of taste because it's the same type of material than the tip of the chisel and it won't be particularly good for making art, but that's what You get it, so, just for the sake of experimenting while we're doing this, let's

open

this up.
I could use a knife to get it caught on this thing. It's like fluff. Hey, it opens pretty smoothly. It almost looks like cotton candy. dry and you could still paint with this one, but it seems like it should be a lot juicier, so maybe we won't find that the other markers are much more. I think this is an interesting place to start to just In a way, I compare the others because I'm really interested to see, you know, if there's a lot more ink in this bottle, this is coming out quite a bit here, but I was expecting it to have more, I guess if you did. use the marker to color a page like with the tip of the chisel and you were saying that color in an area like that would be quite an achievement, so you know it's not, it's no worse that it's also surprisingly dry, so there we have it . it's our first cheap marker, let's move on to our mid range marker, this is where this is starting to hurt a little because I don't have like I didn't buy these for this video.
I'm just destroying my cousin Marcus. I'm an adult, it feels loose, the thing is ready, crack, crack, open it up, do some crack, which is no joke, quick stats. I think this is the old Illustrator series. I think the newer ones have the chisel and brush tip again. Very similar setup. to the other one where we have a main shell bit and then we insert another shell bit that needs to be assembled making this bit first and then they put this thing in there like this and then they need to go let's see how they make the markings so there's my deduction after this intensive experiment, the only thing I immediately noticed is different is that I think the density of this ink cartridge here, just by looking at it, it seems more solidly built and it just seems darker and denser, but it could be wrong there too, for Of course, we have a brush tip which, as I mentioned, I suspect is more expensive to produce, as you can see, and it has pressure sensitivity, and it's much more organic to use.
This one also has a bullet tip, just for comparison. This is the tip of the trap bullet here in my left hand and then the mid-range one will be delivered in my right hand. It's smaller and a little softer. The big, cheap one was actually pretty stiff. The smaller midrange one feels a little more flexible, which is more comfortable when it touches the paper, so now that we have the ink cartridge, let's do this right the first time, oh, it's already bleeding, that's it, that's it a good time, very interesting, it still looks a bit like cotton candy and I guess it's something like that. how they contain the entrance, but this is as you can see, with a denser color to see what happens when I leave this, as you can see, it immediately got much more inside and the color is much better so you like it, you really see how it spreads on the page unlike cheap blue, we have a lot more saturation and a really uniform pigment distribution or, like with cheap, it has uneven spots and less saturated, so to get a really strong blue, there will be a lot more work , much more, in some ways, the worst result with the cheap marker, but then the midrange marker has much better saturation and much less effort to get there when you do it this way, which I don't do.
I don't recommend it, let's be honest, okay, so we cheated, we made an affordable mid to high tier marker and now we're going to use the more expensive bar. I guess you could say the industry standard, the Copic illustrator marker, these are illustrators' favorites. comic artists, graphic designers and generally YouTube, this is the part that will make me sad cotton candy is definitely not their thing just don't do it that way experiment don't eat I don't think I have a working Dremel saw anymore. Bring everything out from within yes, yes, I would love to do another one.
I can't leave this unanswered. Unplug this just to show that when you play this stuff safely, he said after doing something stupid, okay, don't try it, this is hard. is that my only vision is this salvageable I think so, let's save it, it's very tight around here the experiment has spread: what happens if you have a very fluffy substance similar to cotton candy with a drip that moves very fast, so are we learning? a lot today hey at least this thing didn't move right let's try again one day I'll be my own downfall today may be that day but I'm going to finish what I started I'm going to try this a different way once I go and open it like a nutcracker Hey, I kind of like doing it this way all the time we're looking at how we look we look good we look good good thank God how interesting the brush is The tip is something like, I don't know if it's in one piece , but it has a strange internal shape, it's very dense here at the bottom and the top is quite spongy.
Now the Copic Illustrator brush tip is definitely the best thing about this, it's the That's why we use it at 70. It has great flexibility, but it also holds its shape on the end so you can get a lot of fine detail and it distributes the ink very uniform, so it is very interesting to see that it varies in density. I've got the spongy but still pretty solid end there and as it goes into the marker it's very dense and feels dense to the touch, it almost feels on the other end like the chisels are really solid.
Is it a single piece? Let's find out. I'm going to cut this in half, it's like cutting a card payment, that's really fascinating, they are two different materials, you have the same substance as a chisel, maybe it's less dense, but to the touch it feels like the same substance and to the touch almost end. It tops it off with a soft, spongy material and maybe that's how it keeps its shape. It almost has a skeleton. It's really interesting. I never knew and I would never have guessed because I think you can pull out the tips and you see one. piece and no one is stupid enough to cut this guy, you're welcome, let's see if there are any surprises with the chisel tip.
I'm going to cut this one in half; I wouldn't say anything particularly surprising, since it's all one. type of substance, you don't know in several parts, however, on the inside, as you can see, it looks a little fibrous, err and the outsides I don't know if they are compressed or something, but on the outside it feels almost like a wood raft, quite compressed, I think. that just goes to show that there's a big difference between these different tiers you get what you pay for between the different tiers and there's a reason why expensive markers are expensive because I think there's obviously a lot of development and science that's gone away. to make them as efficient as possible now let's look at the ink and again I think just like our mid level ink, it's another step up in density, you can see the color is immediately darker, these are similar colors at the level of the surface o However, as you can see internally, the density of the ink definitely seems to increase with each variation, so let's open up Copic Sketch, so on the right we have the internal fluff, the colored fluff.
I don't know Copic. marker and then on the left is the Illustrator Spectrum Noir, both look pretty dense with liquid, let's see how the Cup is drawn while I do this. I don't notice a huge difference in the amount of liquid between this and the Spectrum Noir, so I think you get at least the same value for your money in terms of how much ink is in either of those markers. I guess it's kind of the quality of the ink in the colors that is up for debate and I guess everyone has their preferences and that's where some people prefer one color over another, but I think it's worth noting that again the degree of the ink and the texture when applied is a step up from the predecessor, so compared to cheaper ink there is of course.
There are less spots and a more uniform distribution in the spectrum of the black illustrators, but then with the kopecks at full density, a little less spots again and a little more saturation, so this is the result of the massacre of today and I must say I thought we might see something. difference between the markers what I wasn't expecting was how clear the distinction was between the quality and I guess the materials in each of these. This is easily my favorite find today. I just think it's absolutely fascinating. I hope you found this interesting. Since I did, at least I hope you were entertained withthe honor of chaos.
