Apr 10, 2024
Welcome back, troglodytes, to your daily dose of

guitar

information. Today's Trogley

guitar

show. Schechter

sent

me a guitar, if you remember, about five months ago I

review

ed the Banshee model, that Purple Demon guitar that was really cool, I just wasn't really in love with it. The whole Floyd Rose thing, but Schecter saw that video and said, Hey, can we send you a guitar so you can check them out and raise awareness that Schecter isn't just about Shreddery Metally Guy guitars, they do a lot of classic

style

s ? the guitars too, so they

sent

me this for free.

I can keep it and do whatever I want with it, but I wasn't paid to do this

review

or anything, just the guitar, so I'm really excited to see what they sent. with me today because they just let me choose between a few models and I think we narrowed it down to about four of them so we'll see which one they ended up shipping, I definitely don't have to worry about this opening in transit here we go and besides that banshee model I think that the only other one I've reviewed was the sinister doors in the first season of the original trading tuesday, so I have very limited experience with Schecter and I'll be honest, I don't.

More Interesting Facts About,

schecter sent me a mystery guitar unboxing review demo schecter pt fastback goldtop t style...

I really thought too much about them, I guess we also unpacked one of their single cut versions, which was a bit more of a traditional guitar, but there was never a full review and

demo

like we're doing today, so here's what I thought. they sent. nice little hard case I wasn't expecting that and I like the Schecter hard cases, they look like they would stack well because they have this ridge on the top right there and then it feels like this area goes in a little bit smaller so in They would actually intertwine with each other, at least I think that's what a Schecter fan told me a couple of days ago, but let's go ahead and open it up and see what's interesting about this model.

It looks like a Telecaster Cabernet. What have they sent me here? Well, Schecter Diamond series. Wow, could you look at that? It's like a T-

style

guitar that's kind of like a custom Telecaster in some ways, but it still has the TV Jones-style pickup, so it's really reminiscent. I one of those cabernets that I really love now I think they call this model

fastback

and I think it's new for 2020. So first impressions here we have a satin finished neck that feels like one of those high end instruments made overseas , something like that. Minaret guitar that I had at one point, that binding has that very distinctive type of yellowish look, let's see where it's made in Indonesia, but wow, I love this back, it's fantastic, I also like this because even though they have the cap screw. neck right here and they don't have the neck plate, they still have it sculpted a little bit, then they have fenders like the Tele Ultra series, so they're definitely trying to get everything out of the way and I would.

Let's say it's definitely a hit, so as far as stopping here, I think it's going to feel comfortable all the way to the second to last fret and a lot of times manufacturers will make the top binding cheaper if they have a little bit of comfort card, right? there so it's nice to see they still do it looks like we have how many body pieces it looks like one right there and there's a second one there then a third there's a fourth on this side maybe not but I like the finish shiny gold which looks great, something that puzzles me a little, although I'm missing the first fret inlay.
Typically when you have square inlays, you'll have one on the first fret, so that's a bit of a thing. It's a bit to get used to, but first impressions I don't see anything that really stands out, it's super strange, I love that it's more of a traditional guitar, I don't have to worry about the Floyd Rose setup or anything, I'm really excited. To try this style of pickups we'll have to find out what they are, but before we throw this one on the workbench, let's go ahead and check out Schecter's website and see what kind of models they have available and if this one is available in All the different finishes they have lots of different acoustic styles, it's an interesting guitar with three soundholes, then the Schechter Banshee GTS, I reviewed that purple one while we were talking about this is a cool series and I usually don't like these styles. of guitars, then they are similar, like Banshee, make fun of the Apocalypse series, as well as many characteristic artists.
I think I've seen a few people wearing these elites and they have so many different styles and in so many different colors, but did you? I know they like simple Explorer type cuts too, even V-style instruments. I never really knew and hey, did you know that Schechter is actually the parent brand of wild audio? But anyway, the one we're talking about today comes from the retro series. It reminds me of a Les Paul signature here. You can see this review and

demo

of one of those. I mean, it's not exactly the same, but it reminds me of her, based on the gold top.
It looks like they even have a Firebird style model. and this looks great too a les paul special even wow it looks like the one we're talking about today is the pt

fastback

it looks like they're going after like this the deluxe telecaster custom telecaster with the vibe with the pickup deals that they offer. I have pt fastback 2, it has a dark emerald green finish. I really like this one and it's got those split humbuckers here so it looks exactly like this. That's great, but we have the one we're talking about today. which has the gold top finish and these are mid priced guitars at 599 new but if you don't like the gold top finish it looks like you can go with a black one this is more like the Telecaster Custom and the fact that it has the humbucker wide range up here and then a different one on the bridge, traditionally it would be the regular single coil, but it's cool to see that they're doing that and matching the inlays to be black, they also have a three tone sunburst version of that, as well as a white one, but overall I think I'm happy with the one they sent me because it has that natural mahogany back, so let's go ahead and take a look at this one on the workbench. to learn more about its specs, so with everything taken apart, this is what it looks like, let's go ahead and go over each and every little individual spec here, so that most of this guitar is covered by that dial, which could be good information for them.
I know that some of the dust that gets trapped under the pick actually ends up marking the finish, obviously you can't see it with the pick on, but maybe that's something they need to take into account, but you have the toggle switch in this location. it's fully protected, you have the shielding inside the paths right here, but you can still see through the mahogany body on the edges inside these channel paths, but then inside where your controls are, they have to fully shield it. so the pickups here they call them Schecter Diamond series ultratron pickups, kind of like entering the era of transformers.
Let's call the next version the Decepticons, but that's just a pun on the original filter. The tron style has flt n4 which probably means driver neck. and then you have your four conductor bridge. Now notice I say four leads because if you look here I was surprised to see that your tone pots are actually push-pulls, which means we don't just have the traditional three middle and middle neck tones. bridge, but we can also coil split them, so that's something that surprised me. Our usual tone pots are made in Korea and they have the shielding right here and they also have a little protective plate over here, very basic. little pickguard here, it appears to be three layers, white, black and white, so if you were to use it through the white layer you would see a black layer, well let's say you're not a tron filter type of person, can you place a humbucker? here it's really close, I mean it's fine this way but you would have to do some extra routing on the edges or I guess if you were really complicated you could shave the baseplates so yeah but not at the same time As far as the bridge goes, it's their standard string style and they call it the diamond hardtail bridge.
It actually feels very sturdy and substantial, it's like one of the biggest things that caught my attention at first, a lot of times these bridges can feel very cheap, but this one has a decent weight to it and feels pretty thick and I love the aspect of that spoiler on the back which is cool but it just attaches to the body with four screws like that and then you have six. individual mounts as for the knobs, they are top hat reflector style, kind of from Gibson territory, they also say volume and tone, so I love the specs on this guitar, it's like a Schecter version of the Fender version of a Les.
Paul inside the Telecaster body, everyone is fucking each other here, we can say that even more certainly because we have the gold top finish, so as we saw when we first unboxed it, it's just a mahogany body, there is no cover maple or anything like that. It's just a standard T-style guitar as far as that goes and as I was putting this back together here real quick, I thought, would the humbucker really fit on the bridge? It does to a certain extent, but the tine guard would need to be widened. but as far as pickup readings go, they're actually pretty low lines, so 4.77 at the bridge, neck position, wow, 4.08 and then in the middle 2.2.
Now remember that you can also spiral each and every one of these down to the end. one if you have them both split, this 2.39 split and this guy 2.04, so I'm really curious what this is going to sound like. The online spec sheet says it has 22 extra jumbo frets, that's something I noticed about these things, they're tall, so that might be a deciding factor between which brand you choose in this case, if you like those frets super tall, you can check these guys out, the spec sheet calls it an ebony fingerboard, the only small flaw I could see on this one is its appearance.
Like it got scratched or something and I noticed these frets were squeaky a little so I gave them a little polishing work, they look super polished right out of the box but when I did some bends I could feel that it was like that. It has a kind of grille so the acrylic block inlays look pretty cool and if you prefer the rosewood fretboard, remember all those others we talked about, some got the rosewood board and the others had maple, definitely take a time to go deeper. check out their website to see which one fits you best if you are interested and the website calls it a Graphtec xl fang nut and I measure a nut width of 1.64 inches and on the 12th it is 2.05 with the first fret raised by 0.8 and 0.88 on the 12.
So I have a relatively thin neck feel and we have to remember that Schecter sent me this guitar to get my honest opinions on it. I don't like the headstock, I think they should try something a little different. I mean, I understand what they want. but maybe try to make something even more unique because this just doesn't cut it for me, the logo looks great. I'm also not in love with the way you touch the soul. It would be nice if there was a way to hide that because, you know, it's kind of ever-present, so maybe the 2021 models could do something with this to liven it up, but we have two string trees on top here, but so far, besides the headstock, I really enjoy this guitar, the fretboard feels good, I love the look of it, but the real money making opportunity with this one and the reason I think this finish is superior to all the others is in that side profile view you get that beautiful mahogany color mixed with that gold. top I love the back of this thing, they've really removed it, they're doing themselves an injustice by leaving the black and white filled in and despite it being several pieces, they don't just hide it with a badge or anything like that they match the wood grain really well, I mean you can definitely tell I'm talking about the super tight wood grain here and then it gets a little more grainy, but that's fine with me and you get this giant comfortable carving here back and I have the big strap buttons, the string through the ferrules, the outlet connector on the side, it's just flat and then the neck sculpts like we were talking about, but here's the other thing I really don't like about this. one, I feel like this one should have a mahogany neck.
I know maple necks are traditional for this style of instrument, but how cool would it be if this whole back matched a beautiful mahogany because I think I would like the headstock better if it was a dark mahogany color because then it would naturally hide that little cut just right there for access to the soul. It would be a little harder to make sure your Schecter stands out, but I think that would make this model look fantastic as For now, they're just going with that '70s Goldtop Deluxe V, which is cool on its own, but II'd love to see a version with a mahogany neck or maybe even a baked maple version, but this neck has that satin finish that we like. we were talking before, it's super fast to play and then everything else has a beautiful shine to it, it got a little volute hit and here we can see our serial number made in Indonesia with mini Grover tuners as far as quality control goes, this thing really looks like.
It will be pretty good, it has a polyester finish so it's not as hard to get it right as the nitro, but you can see along the edges that the wood looks a little sloppy, like there's that line just right there, I'm not talking about the seam line, that's going to happen, but there's just some marks on the wood where it was very noticeable to me, it was on the side here, it looks like you have two cuts on your guitar, so no I know, maybe you can just give this a nickname. which I don't think is wood grain, the fret work was actually pretty good, I mean the only nitpick I could find is like the e side of the nut, you can see it sticks out just a hair, it could have been filed a bit. a little softer there, I don't really see that affecting the playability too much, so overall a pretty solid guitar as far as build quality goes, but all said and done, this thing weighs seven pounds and 14, 3 ounces, so it barely weighs eight pounds, that's pretty good for this. so let's go ahead and plug it in and hear what this thing sounds like.
Now that we know everything about the Schecter Fastback model, what are my final thoughts and opinions on this thing? Did it blow me away in the tone department? Unfortunately no, maybe it's because I'm used to hotter pickups, but these Ultratron pickups sounded a little weak in my opinion, the only thing I really enjoyed about this guitar was the clean neck tone which had a nice juiciness to it, but so soon Like you put a little distortion on it, it was a little muddy now, sometimes coil splits can help clean that up, but honestly, you know, I didn't really find anything.
Unfortunately, I liked using these, so I would prefer a different pickup. style, but if you are used to low wine pickups you might like it better, but how does it play? How does it feel to play this? It's comfortable when you have this comfort trimmed here for your tummy if you need it. Again, you have those extra carvings on the back to ensure that you can reach the upper registers if you play there. I usually rarely get there. The neck is very thin, a little too thin for my preferences, but if you like those really thin necks you will enjoy this one, but as far as build quality goes, the only thing I noticed is that the G string has a small groove on the nut so you can hear it pinch. but that's the only other thing I noticed while playing this, so it just needs a little nut file then you'd be good to go there, but the high frets are great for bending if you like to do that.
It was definitely comfortable, let's face it, they made a beautiful guitar here. I really like the aesthetic and it's very well finished and for 5.99 would I ultimately recommend it? I would say try one of these first, maybe don't blindly order one because there are so many different ones. There are models that maybe the other pickups sound better, maybe I would like the wide range humbuckers a little better or maybe it's just because they are not single coils and when I normally take a Telecaster I think they are single coils but of good build quality . Maybe not the guitar for me but before we say goodbye today let's go ahead and take a look under black light, under black light it doesn't shine too brightly as far as the body itself goes but take a look at those inlays they are cool , super bright and central. get some shine on the face of the headstock everything looks great on this shacter fastback just as a quick clarification here these don't actually ship with hard cases this is an aftermarket upgrade i would have to do i think that Schecter cases are. around $150 or so, but if you get one, this is what you can expect: a nice blue interior.
I love the interior color of the Schecter cases. They have some great ones. It would be nice if they had a fitted version because unfortunately there is a lot of movement up and down, but they have so many crazy shapes that you just have to have something one size fits all, but troglodytes, I hope you enjoyed seeing the top model Schecter Fastback Gold with me today, No. Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe and we'll see you tomorrow in the next episode, take care.
