Explain what I'm doing. I'm not going to be able to go into much depth, so bear with us. This will be a fun challenge, but I have to focus on my piece. Let's do this, you guys are going down, okay? This was a little more challenging for me than usual. I had to remotely find a piece on Facebook Mark Place here in Tennessee where we are because it was obviously crunch time, so I found it last week and the lady kindly held it up for me. I bought this for fifty dollars, I probably overpaid but we had to finish it so I went to pick it up yesterday when we landed and I have to deal with the way it is and I hope we can bring it back to life in 24 hours I don't know oh, It's a little hard, this one is dirty, you guys, it has a lot of dust.

I just finished cleaning my piece, so I'm going to remove this last piece of hardware. I usually like to, you know, move the hardware first, but then I forgot I was going really fast, so I'm going to clean up that little spot over there. I also have to figure out what I'm going to do with this piece. I think I need to just go through it and do a little bit. once it's done i think i'm going to need some dixie mud there are some holes so let's get the dixie mud out so lets look we have mike to the rescue here i'm missing a drawer slide on one of my drawers and since we only have 24 hours we don't have much time to go to the store, things like that, so he's going to try to cut a piece of wood that he already had and I'm just going to make it work, so luckily he has a table saw with fingers crossed you can do this Christina, I think that might be a trap, I think that might be it, wait, let her have it.

I have this amazing cameraman, thank you Mr. Mike, let's try it guys. Too short, what are you doing? Mike Fail. She accidentally cut him. Too short. He has another piece. He's going to try again. Let's try it, guys. Okay, we have to line this up. I think we're fine though. Well, Christina is hogging the Lijaré over there. I'm going to go ahead and choose my color. I'm thinking bare wood, so I have to have a color that goes well with the light wood. I really love this color. I've been meaning to use it for Ago for a while, but I think I just want to make it a little darker, so maybe let's mix it up a bit.
I don't know, I don't know, this is pretty, I don't know the risky color, but I think since then. There won't be a ton of that in the piece, it might actually go quite well with raw wood, like that palmetto wood. I like it. I think I'll try making decisions there. Do you want to go fast? or you want to like not having to take out your swirls uh and I feel like we should put something under here so it doesn't wobble what do you recommend? Well, it depends on what style you're going for because I want it to be smooth, okay, if you wanted it to be smooth, let's go slow and no, we're still going to put it on spin mode, but we're not going to take it off, like I just took it off, so let's go.
Let's start, we will do it. It works, so we're going to start with a 120 but we're still going to go into uh rotex mode, which is what it's in, so this is just a regular orbital sander that's rotex. I'm going to put it as a 4. And you can increase it up to six if you feel like it, but I think maybe we should start with three, okay, and just understand it because it's a lot now, I realized it was a lot, so she said it. They'll take me away if I'm not careful, so let's start with that and see how and it just came on, yeah, just change, there I am with the sander now and I've never used this one, that's why Christina was showing.
I, um, but I'm kind of interested in it, but this is just a Rotex Festool sander and it's an orbital. I'm going to use it in orbital mode, but my goal is to remove the top and drawers as well. I'll see how it goes, I hope it doesn't take me far. I'm done sanding. I've finished now. I did all the stripping and also sanded it to make it gold. I'm going to clean off all the dust and then I'm going to debate whether I think we need to apply some primer or not. I brought some of my own microfiber cloths.
We're almost done for the day. Let's go pack. We are hungry. I'm going to go out early again tomorrow morning, I think, and I'll be done in these 24 hours, yes, I'm ready, I'm tired and I'm hungry, it's hot right here, right in the garage, the sun is shining in the afternoon and I think It affected us so we're ready to take a break, let's go get some food, let's do it, we're back for the second day, we have a lot to do, we don't have time to talk, we have to get to our rooms we're fine, it's fine, I'm here, I think I'm ready to paint, so I sanded very lightly with fine sandpaper on top just to smooth everything out one last time.
I haven't decided if I could do it. I want to lighten this up but I'm not sure yet, it looks pretty good, the drawers look amazing but I'm going with the palmetto so I made a little test sample right there and I really like the way it looks like time is ticking , let's start painting, we're done with the first coat here and I love the coverage of this and I think I'm definitely going to need one more coat, possibly two more coats, but we're going to let it dry for a while. I got some here, so I'll definitely have to sand it again to clean up the paint, but in the meantime I'm going to keep my brush somewhere where no air gets in. and then we'll come back for coat number two, so I want to lighten this wood a little bit, but not too drastically, so I'm going to try to use the water based gel stain, white magic, and I'm just going to lighten it a little bit, I'm just going to make a little section and we'll see how it looks mmm, that could actually be cool, although I like it for something else, not really with this color though, it's too light. there's like a weird yellow stain right there oh, that's weird, this is really weird, I wonder if that was like a marker or something, it wouldn't have come off with the like, although if you don't like it, you don't do it.
You don't like it or you like it with the green, yeah, because once you cover it it won't look so white, but from here it looks too white, but from here it looks great. Your second favorite college team is green and white. from here it looks totally destroyed so I don't know because if I just did the drawers too I think it would be too much yeah that was honestly I think you think this is just a top coat okay I scratch it. idea with white magic, but you know you have to try some things, but like I said, no mistakes, I'm just going to go ahead and sand that back and hopefully that won't take up too much of my time, okay, I need it.
To do a little more dixie mud here, sometimes you have to do two coats when you're filling in holes or little imperfections, so I'll let it dry a little bit, like I said, it's actually a lot easier. Look for imperfections once you've applied the first coat of primer or the first coat of paint, so I finished off the dixie mud which will dry a little bit and then I'll be able to apply coat number two once. I sanded it and yeah, I had to say that twice because I didn't even push the wire back in, so I had to push the wire in again.
I already did the first coat of paint. I already did the washing on my wooden part and while it dries. What are you doing? I have my Dixie mud back in there, but I'm ready for coat number two after it's dry and sanded, but we're ready to head to the hobby lobby to get some hardware. I wish we could. find some good stuff, hope there's enough for you, fingers crossed, come on guys, how many did I have? Do you remember six or four? I think I was just hitting my two, two, two, oh, but my drawer is wooden, I don't know.
I need something that complements the color but also the wood. I can't get something that goes very well with the wood because I want it to stand out a little. Guys, I'm struggling. I usually don't come looking for him. additional hardware unless it's just plane stuff, it's decision overload, there are so many options you'll probably end up getting more than one just to play with them, I don't know if I want to go white, I don't know if I want to gold the ones I like no There's enough of Christina she just went in and found the ones she wanted well she found a couple of options and boom it was that easy but I don't know the clock is ticking and we have I have about a few hours left I still have to do a coat of paint and top cuts and all of that uh let's go for it I think we're going to do these my green dressers with wood tones this is green with gold but it's a little bit of a different green so it won't be like a matching set but maybe just a little complementary , so it's between these and the other wooden ones that I have, we're going to take both and recover the ones that don't.
I'm not working, I don't have any more time to keep searching, I just have to keep going, so it's time to get home. Lauren finally made a decision. I'm very happy because we have to get out of here and we also have to get some food because I. I'm starving, we only have a few hours left, we're at crunch time, we have to go and finish our pizzas, we're back from the hobby lobby, we have a lunch break, but we're in the home stretch and I don't have any left plenty of time to get through these 24 hours, so let's get back to work.
Christina is already there working. I'm going to be sanding this mud and it looks like she's going to make another coat. I have the second one. layer palmetto over the base, so I'm ready to go ahead and start covering the drawers. The reason you want to topcoat raw wood is because you don't want all those oils and stuff on there yet. It really shouldn't change the color too much. Another thing you could do is something like orange wax or even the best wax. I'm just going to use a flat clear coat and that way it won't have any shine.
There's just a little spot here that was kind of yellowish and now it's turning green. I covered it with a few different paints and used a clear embossed boss to mask it a little bit, so I'm just going to go ahead and leave it as is and I have to apply one more coat of finish before we can move on to the hardware, but we're getting to the point. At the heart of the matter, we have to go orange or any color that is palmetto green. I would definitely understand that, oh little bird, here, these shots shot his own father, this looks too much like Texas, oh my god, I would prefer that even for your mom instead of that, well, I'm done too, I think we both have to do it. assemble and maybe add a little shine and a little dry oh I lied, you know what I didn't do?
I haven't made the blouse yet, oh fire, you just cut that part off. Christina has a little bit more top coat to apply there, I'm just going to put things away and probably put my hardware in and put my drawers in the hardware on these. This is great, I think the tone of the wood isn't quite right so I think I'll end up going. with these and I think they will complement each other very well, this is really out of the ordinary for me, the last piece of hardware here, we're going to put a little bit of the big mommy butt in our drawer, where it slides into the drawer. slides on its own, alright, we're done, it's time to take these bad boys inside and introduce them, we have to introduce them, I guess that's the last part we have here, guys, my piece is finished and I think it looks even better, the scenario, this challenge was a challenge.
The 24 hour mark came much faster than I thought it would between all the decisions we had to make. I think one thing I would have done differently is maybe I would have painted the top the same color just to give the drawers a little more pop and just to accommodate the top a little bit, not that I don't like this but I think that would have been like, I don't know, giving it a little bit of obviously a different look, but I think it would have also been just helping with the hardware and everything, I think it's too woody for me, but overall, in the 24 hours, I think that I did a very good job of choosing what I chose.
ReallyWe want to thank Christina and Mike for letting us into their garage. and just working with us, she gave me some advice on my article. I gave him some advice about her article. It was a lot of fun to
