An Inside Look - Mounted Color Guard

The Foreigner was initiated by Lieutenant Colonel Lindsay. He returned from a Vietnam tour and saw that Camp Pendleton had a clear

guard

unit set up, so he decided to start one here to represent the Marine Corps in some of the local parades. This was designated as the

mounted

honor

guard

. from the Marine Corps in 1967. We try to maintain as much tradition as possible and have recently begun to push for Calvary Maneuvers demonstrations to be able to represent that history, so that our everyday lives that we come from, we feed into it. and we water the horses every day and then we'll raise them, groom them, brush them, saddle them, start the preliminary work, she kind of hits that cool morning so she can work the horse.

It gets the horse's attention and that's when the Riders themselves you also know that they are concentrating that they are getting their emotions and mindset right for riding and concentrating on what they are doing, which is amazing with horses. is that they can feel every movement you have, meaning every one of them when you're around them, not just riding them, you know you're feeding them, petting them, they can tell what kind of movements you feel, they can't. I understand how much time we would spend out here rioting and working with these guys. We spend a lot of time with these guys and it's amazing because you build a connection with these horses and you just see the personality of that horse and how. they react to things you couldn't get that joy and seeing a horse that you know you just have fun and enjoy doing what he does if you weren't here and Barstow is small that's the great thing about the honor guard. it gets the word out about Barstow and it's the only thing about Barstow, so nope, glad to see it's still going, thanks.

The most rewarding experience for me here is when I work with a younger horse or even one of the older horses for weeks at a time preparing for a specific event, um and getting there and successfully performing the event knowing that the horse may have, you know a couple of problems here, there, you know, I might be nervous or something, and I get there and the horse performs phenomenally so it's the biggest reward you can get here abroad.
