Three, two - (Applause) TIM COOK: Wasn't that great? I took an early look at the entire season and loved it, and I think you will too. We can't wait to show you this series and our other original shows launching this fall. Now, Apple TV+ will be available in the Apple TV app that's on all your screens, including your Smart TVs. And of course, the best way to enjoy this content is with AppleTV 4K, which offers an immersive cinematic experience that delivers the highest picture quality of any streaming device out there. Apple TV is powered by tvOS, and tvOS is just one of the software platforms we're here to talk about today.
So, let's get going. (Applause) I'm excited to share with you this morning how we're going to make tvOS even more entertaining and personal. We completely redesigned the home screen, making Apple TV come to life from the moment you turn it on with full-screen previews of the best TV shows and newly released movies. Apple TV is designed for the whole family to use, but we wanted to make it even more personal. Today, the Up Next list has a mix of shows for everyone in the home, but when you sit down to watch TV, you want to watch the shows you love.
That's why we're introducing multi-user support for tvOS. (Applause) Now everyone in the home gets their own Up Next list plus personalized recommendations for new shows and movies. Now, it's easy to switch between family members using the new Control Center. It works just as you would expect. TvOS also offers Apple Music with over 50 million songs and curated music video playlists. And now, with multi-user support, everyone in the home gets their own personalized music experience. You will be able to see the lyrics of your favorite songs in sync with the music. This is really cool. (Applause) This is the best musical experience on television.
Now, Apple Arcade will also look great on AppleTV 4K this fall. Playing great games like Ocean Horn 2, of course, is even better with great gaming controllers, which is why we're expanding support to two of the best and most popular gaming controllers available. Xbox 1S. (Applause) Yes. And PlayStation DualShock 4. (Applause) Yes. I think there are some PlayStation fans out there. Finally, let's talk about our beautiful screen protectors. We've already captured some of the most stunning places in the world and even some from outer space through our collaboration with the International Space Station. This year we are going under the sea.
Oh, it's amazing. (Applause) We've teamed up with the BBC's Natural History unit to record beautiful footage in 4K HDR, taking you to places few people have experienced before. So, that's the new tvOS. More personal and more entertaining than ever. (Applause) Now let's talk about the Apple Watch. (Applause) Yes. Apple Watch is the number one watch in the world. It keeps you connected to the people and information you care about just by lifting your wrist. Track your workouts and motivate you to stay active throughout the day. And with innovative new features like fall detection, heart notifications, and ACG, Apple Watch has truly become a smart guardian of your health.
For many of us, the Apple Watch has become an essential part of our daily lives. Today we're taking another step forward with watchOS to bring new experiences to Apple Watch while improving the ones you already love. To tell you everything, I would like to invite Kevin Lynch to the stage. Kevin. (Applause) KEVIN LYNCH: Thanks, Tim. Good day. I'm very excited to be here. We are delighted to see how Watch is making a difference in the lives of so many people. This drives us to make Watch even more powerful and more personal to you. Let's start with the watch faces.
Now, these are something you interact with more every day and we have more watch faces this year since the first Apple Watch. (Applause) From the simply beautiful to the richly detailed, let's take a look at some of them. First, we have the gradient face that gently animates over time. Then we have this big dial with numbers that shows the current time in multiple languages and the very modern digital dial that shows a great look in multiple colors and then the California dial, classic design for a watch face. Now, many of these faces can have more information added to them, like adding rich complications here right on the California dial.
Then we have the solar face. This displays the sun's 24-hour path around the dial and you can see it change throughout the day or by turning the Digital Crown. These are simply beautiful. (Applause) Now, on all watch faces, we are introducing touch ringers. And when it's enabled, on time, you'll feel a silent touch on your wrist, and if sound is on, you'll hear an audible chime like this. Yes, that is the song of a bird. It's actually a robin caught in Apple Park. I mean, it was recorded at Apple Park. (Laughter) The robins are fine. (Applause) Now let's talk about applications.
Now, they're designed for quick interactions on Watch. First, we're bringing more Apple apps to the Watch. The new Audiobooks app that lets you listen to Apple Books and voice memos so you can easily record your thoughts. (Applause) And calculator. (Applause) And look at this; It also includes the ability to perform tip calculations, including the ability to split the bill with friends. (Applause) We also now give developers great new tools and APIs to create great apps for Apple Watch. And now we make it possible to create apps that run independently on the Watch, without the need for a companion iPhone app. (Applause) And now you can get more time to access sensor data and complete sessions like physical therapy with Kya or brushing your teeth with Colgate or meditating with Calm.
And watchOS 6 now enables the Audio Streaming API so you can use just your watch and stream great content like podcasts, music, and live sports games. So with new developer tools and a new native UI framework coming this year, we're enabling a whole new generation of Watch apps. Now, to make it easier for you to discover these apps, we're excited to bring the App Store to Apple Watch. (Applause) You can explore apps curated by our editorial team or find favorite apps like Head Space or Carrot Weather or Streaks, Nike Run Club. You can search the entire App Store using dictation, scribbling, or simply asking Siri.
And you can view product pages to see information such as app description, reviews, and screenshots. And finally, you can purchase and install an app directly on your watch. (Applause) So discovering and using apps on Apple Watch will be better than ever with the App Store and these great developer tools. Now, we're also adding new health and fitness capabilities, and to tell you about some of them, I'd like to invite Dr. Sumbul Desai, our VP of Health, to the stage. Sumbul? (Applause) SUMBUL DESAI: Thank you, Kevin. Apple Watch is a fantastic health and fitness companion, and in watchOS 6 we're adding even more features so you can better manage your health starting with activity.
Being physically active is one of the most important things you can do for your health. If it were a prescription, it would actually be one of the most prescribed medications in the world. The Activity app on Apple Watch already motivates you to stay active. It also lets you know how active you are every day, but knowing how active you are over the long term is equally important. It gives you an idea of your overall physical condition. So in watchOS 6 we introduced Activity Trends. (Applause) For nine key metrics, you'll compare your progress over the past 90 days to the past 365.
If trends show you're maintaining or improving, you'll see an arrow pointing up, and that's great; keep doing what you're doing. But if you're trending downward, we'll provide you with simple guidance to get you back on track. You'll see trends for familiar metrics like moving, exercising, and standing, but you'll also see trends for some new metrics like your walking pace during training, flights of stairs climbed, or even your cardiovascular fitness level. Activity Trends will give you a more complete picture of what you can do to stay active and, more importantly, give you the motivation you need to achieve long-term success. (Applause) Now let's talk about your hearing health.
Your hearing is a precious commodity. Think about the sounds that surround you every day, about hearing a friend's laughter, about listening to your favorite song. Protecting your hearing is essential for living your daily life and maintaining your independence as you age. Since hearing loss is usually so gradual, it is important to know when the sounds around you are loud enough to affect your hearing. Like when you're in the middle of a construction zone, at a sporting event, or playing your music too loud to drown out your singing voice. I do that all the time. The new Noise app uses the microphone to detect decibel levels and can notify you if you havereached a level that could affect your hearing over time.
Because the watch is always on your wrist, you're in a great position to monitor ambient noise. If you tap the Noise app, you'll get more details and can use the complication to check by simply raising your wrist. It's a simple way to protect your hearing health. And of course, this feature was designed with privacy in mind. It only samples periodically and does not record or save any audio. (Applause) We think the Noise app will really have a big impact. Now, there is one more new feature in health and fitness and all the women, pay close attention because this one is for you.
Cycle tracking. (Applause) Knowing more about your menstrual cycle gives you a window into your health, from simply making sure you're prepared to understanding your personal patterns and regularities. As a doctor, I know that understanding what is normal for you is critical to making informed clinical decisions and can really enrich conversations with your doctor. So in watchOS 6, the Cycle Tracking app gives you simple, discreet ways to view your cycle right on your wrist and is really easy to use. You can record key aspects of your period and fertility, including symptoms, and you'll be notified when it's about to start.
You can also choose to receive a fertile window prediction to be better informed. This feature is available on Apple Watch, and because we wanted to make it available to hundreds of millions of women around the world, Cycle Tracking is also available without a watch in the Health app and on iOS. (Applause) Yes, for everyone to use. (Applause) You can use it on your iPhone to perform all the same functions that can be performed on the Watch. We are very excited to pay more attention to this incredibly important aspect of women's health. Now, back to Kevin. (Applause) KEVIN LYNCH: Thank you, Sumbul.
So the Health app is the best way to see all your health data in one place and we've redesigned it to make it even more personal and meaningful to you. In the new summary view, you can view health-related notifications. You'll see your favorites, the information you're most interested in, as well as automatically generated highlights so you can see your health data over time. For example, if you are more active than usual, how consistently you may have been attentive this week, or how your heart rate has recovered after a recent workout. Health uses machine learning on your iPhone to determine which highlights you might find most interesting.
Therefore, the new Health app will give you even more powerful insight into your health. Now, all of this health data is safely stored on your iPhone or encrypted in iCloud, and since there is nothing more private than your health information, you control your data. You can decide whether you want to share particular health data with selected apps, if you want to share anything. These are some of the great new features coming to watchOS 6. To take a look at some of these features live, welcome to the stage, watchOS Program Leader Haley Allen. (Applause) HALEY ALLEN: Thank you very much, Kevin.
I love watchOS 6 and I'm very excited to have the opportunity to show it to you today. Let's start with some of my favorite faces. This is the new modular compact dial and now I can have a great information graphic complication along with a beautiful dial. And there's even room in the corner for a couple of my favorite delicious complications, like these two new ones, Wind and Rain. Let's tap customize and look at some of the options. This is the new Noise complication that tells me how loud it is here. It's pretty quiet. Let's make some noise and see how this works. (Applause) Incredible.
Thank you. Brilliant. The next face I want to show you is one of our most popular faces and this year we've made it even cooler because you can customize it with our new monochromatic style. I love the simplicity of this two-tone look. Here in the middle is the audiobook complication and I can just tap on it and pick up right where I left off. And the Now Playing controls in watchOS 6 are great and show me exactly what I need to see for that app. In Audiobooks, I can tap here at the bottom and find the chapter I want to listen to again.
It's never been easier to listen to great books on the go. The last face I want to show you is the gradient face. Kevin showed you how beautiful it looks in full screen and I can also customize it to add all my favorite rich complications. I am constantly multitasking. With a busy job and a kid at home, sometimes I only have a moment to capture a quick thought. Let me tap the Voice Memos complication in the bottom right corner and do that now. Remind Marcus that just because he's almost seven doesn't mean you should, quote, "veto his bedtime." Well.
Now, I'm very excited to give you your first look at the new App Store. With curated collections and apps, it's easy to discover and download great Watch apps. Let's take a look at Chineasy. I can tap here to see ratings and screenshots. And I can download it directly from my watch. It is very convenient. Let me show you an app that I already downloaded, the MLB app. With the new audio streaming APIs in watchOS 6, I can listen to any game live no matter where I am. Now, you're not actually playing right now, but let me tap here and give you a preview of how it works.
MALE SPEAKER: Two, one, tone on the way. A swing and a drive high to right field. Getting back on track, he has possibilities. Right on the wall. He went away. HALEY ALLEN: Yeah, isn't that great? Come on. (Applause) Very good. Thank you so much. These are just some of the highlights of watchOS 6. I think you'll love it. Back to you, Kevin. (Applause) KEVIN LYNCH: Thank you, Haley. That was really cool. Now, there's so much more in watchOS 6, like recognizing songs with built-in Shazam and automatic software updates right on your watch. Now, finally, we know how custom you like to make your watch, from the watch faces to the physical straps, and today we're introducing some new summer colors and a brand new Pride edition watch strap. (Applause) It matches perfectly with the new Pride Watch face on your watch.
So, watchOS 6 is another big step forward for Watch and it's truly an honor for the team to create something so personal for all of you. Thanks and back to Tim. (Applause) TIM COOK: Thanks, Kevin. All of these great new features will make Apple Watch an even more indispensable part of your daily life. Now let's talk about iOS, the most powerful mobile operating system in the world. (Applause) Last year, we launched iOS 12, which is packed with amazing features, from new dynamic AR and Memoji experiences to screen time and faster performance, and once again, iOS has the highest customer satisfaction in the world. industry with an incredible 97%.
Is incredible. (Applause) And, as always, our adoption rate is also leading the industry. 85% of iOS customers have the latest version. And in fact, iOS 12 has been installed on more systems than any version of iOS. Now, that's in stark contrast to those other guys' latest offering that launched before iOS 12; They only have 10% adoption. (Applause) Now, this high adoption rate is a great benefit for both users and developers. Now, to tell you about the next major release of iOS, I'd like to turn it over to Craig. Craig. (Applause) CRAIG FEDERIGHI: Hello. Thank you. Thank you. Well. I'd like to talk... okay, we have a lot to talk about this morning.
I'd like to talk about our next big iOS release. Now, when it came time to name this release, our excellent marketing team really surprised us this year by demonstrating their ability to count up to double digits. Yes, it's iOS 13. (Applause) Now, iOS 13 is a huge version packed with many capabilities, but we know that nothing is more important to our iPhone users than performance. That's why this year we worked from top to bottom on the system, making everything faster and so you can do more. Things like unlocking with Face ID, now 30% faster. (Applause) Now, this is great.
We've changed the way we package apps in the App Store, and when this launches in the fall with iOS 13, you'll see that your downloads are now 50% smaller. And updates, 60% smaller. But what is it... yes. (Applause) But what's really amazing is the effect it has on the app's startup speed. It's up to twice as fast in iOS 13. (Applause) Now, we were able to do this in a version packed with new features and there's one that I think will really resonate with some of you here and I'd like to introduce it to you now. We'll see. (Music playing) (Applause) That's right.
We bring dark mode to iOS. (Applause) I'd love to show it to you live now. (Applause) Okay. (Laughs) Okay. Let's take a first live look at iOS. Now, here it is in its traditional luminous appearance with this gorgeous new wallpaper, but now let's begin our descent into darkness. (Laughs) Look at that. The gorgeous dark wallpaper and notifications look great. Let's take a look at our widgets. They look simply amazing. Let's take a look at some applications. We will start with News. Look at it with a beautiful dark appearance, very nice. And your calendar and daily events never looked so amazing with this truly beautiful palette.
And notes. Look at this refined texture, it's really fantastic. Let's take a trip to Messages. You see how your images, your emojis, they all look just fantastic. And of course the keyboard, with a new extra refined dark look and some new tricks because now when you type, you can swipe. (Applause) It's that simple. It's really great. Let's take a look at Photos. Of course, it looks fantastic in dark mode. Now, this is our Dark Mode project team at the start of the project. You see, they were happy times. They slowly began their descent into darkness. We take the details very seriously.
Let's take a look at our new share sheet. It looks amazing in dark mode, but you notice that in between it intelligently shares suggestions based on who you're sharing with and who's in the photos. You can share with just one touch. It's very quick and easy. And finally, the music. Your music looks great in dark mode. You can check out some of my recent plays. Of course, start playing some music here. And now, for the first time, time-synchronized lyrics. (Applause) And this is a quick look at what's new in Dark Mode in iOS 13. (Applause) So, great performance, smart sharing, the new keyboard shortcut, and Dark Mode.
But of course, there's a lot more to iOS 13, starting with apps. Let's start with Safari, Mail and Notes. Safari now has new options to quickly change text size and has per-website preferences. Mail gains desktop-class text formatting controls, including support for rich fonts. And Notes gets this beautiful new gallery view, support for shared folders, and much more. But where we really dig deep is in Reminders. We've completely reinvented the app, rewriting it from the ground up to make it smarter, more intuitive, more powerful, and easier than ever to create Reminders. So, for example, just type what you want and Reminders will understand when and where to notify you.
Or you can use the new quick text bar; Just tap and enter things like location or even attachments like photos. With tasks, you can now associate to-dos with a higher-level reminder. Now, smart lists help you keep track of your most important items, and if you tag a person in a reminder, well, the next time you're in a Messages conversation, you'll automatically receive a notification to let them know it's now the moment. talk. It's really useful. Next, Maps. Maps is with you wherever you are, from work, home or even on the go with CarPlay. And our team continues its obsession with creating the best map possible.
Now, we've outfitted literally hundreds of planes and cars with custom sensors and lidar and traveled more than four million miles to rebuild our map from scratch, and the results are truly impressive. Here is our old map and here is the new map. (Applause) It's just great. Now, we hope to roll out this map across the United States later this year and select additional countries next year. But we didn't stop there. There's a lot more to Maps, and to give you a quick look at what's new, I'd like to invite Meg Frost, our Director of Product Design, on stage for a quick demo.
Megan. MEG FROST: Very good. Alright. Thank you. I'm very happy to show you what's new in Apple Maps. Alright. First, let's take a look at that new map. Like Craig said, we've been driving and flying all over the United States, collecting ground and aerial data to add significant new details to the map. Now the roads, beaches, parks and buildings look fantastic. We've also added a couple of very useful new features to our newly designed home screen, like favorites, where I can add the places I go every day for quick and easy access. Now I can tap and go.
And with collections, this is where I can organize all my favorites, or I can make lists of favorites to share with friends, or I can finally organize that next big trip. Let's take a look at my collection of SF ads. Now I've been visiting Chinatown. You will notice that in the upper right corner there is a new binoculars button. When I tap that, I get a new view around the window. Yes, this is the right place to visit, so I'll go full screen. Looking around, I get a gorgeous high-definition 3D view. It's an amazing way to explore. (Applause) But this is my favorite part.
Turn on your phone and hold it tight. Move gently down the street. (Applause) Yeah, I bet they've never seen it like that before. I can tap the tags to get more information about new places. Yeah, I think I'll check it out later. And those are just some of the new features we're bringing to Apple Maps. Thanks and with you again, Craig. (Applause) CRAIG FEDERIGHI: Thank you, Meg. Now, we think Maps users will really love bookmarks, collections, and looking around, but there's a lot more to Maps, like crossroads views for China or the ability, when you're on the road, to share an ETA Update with friends and family with just a tap.
But most importantly, Maps has been designed to be private and secure. We always protect your identity and activity, and there's no need to flip a switch to ask Maps to start respecting your privacy because at Apple we believe privacy is a fundamental human right and we build it into everything we do. This year, we're doing even more. I want to focus on three big areas starting with location. Sharing your location with a third-party app can really enable some useful experiences, but we don't expect that privilege to be used to track us, so this year we're building in even more protections.
Now, for the first time, you can share your location with an app just once and then ask it to ask you again the next time you want. (Applause) And if you choose to give an app the ability to continuously monitor your location in the background, we'll give you reports so you know what they're doing. Now, some apps try to bypass these protections by looking for Bluetooth or Wi-Fi signals to infer your location. Well, we are also closing the door on that abuse. (Applause) Next, I want to move on to logging in. We've all seen buttons like this, asking us to use a social account to log in for a more personalized experience with an app.
Now this may be convenient, but it may also come at a cost to your privacy. Sometimes your personal information is shared behind the scenes and these logins can be used to track you. We wanted to solve this and many developers do too. So, now we have the solution. It's called sign in with Apple. (Applause) Sign in with Apple is the quick and easy way to sign in without all the tracking. Its simple API allows the developer to log in with the Apple button in their app. Simply tap it and you will authenticate with Face ID on your device, log in with a new account without revealing any new personal information. (Applause) Now, some apps may want your name, and maybe even an email to send you information when you're outside of the app.
Now, we allow them to request this information, but check this out; You can choose to share your real email address or you can choose to hide it and when you do, we will create a unique random address that will forward to your real address. (Applause) Yes. Much love for the random addresses here. And that's good news because we give each application a unique random address. This means you can disable any of them at any time when you are tired of listening to that app. It's really great. (Applause) So, of course, this whole experience is intended to help you have control over your data.
This is now available on all our platforms and also on the web. Now, next I want to move on to HomeKit. You know, our homes are very personal places, places where we deserve to feel safe and protected. That's why HomeKit has been designed from the beginning to protect privacy and security when using home accessories. And no accessory is more personal than security cameras that record in and around your home. Now, unfortunately, most home cameras send people's video to the cloud, so it can be analyzed to distinguish between maybe a leaf blowing in the wind and someone at your door, but unfortunately, this puts at risk your privacy.
We have a new way; It's called HomeKit Secure Video. Now yes. HomeKit Secure Video, in which case the video is analyzed in your home on your iPad, HomePod or resident Apple TV and then encrypted and sent securely to iCloud, where no one, not even Apple, can see it. (Applause) Now, of course, you will be notified if there is any activity and you will be able to review the recordings. Now, ten days' worth of clips storage will be included in your existing iCloud accounts and will not count against your storage. Yes. Netatmo, Logitech and Eufy will be among the first to offer these cameras with more to come.
Now, in addition to cameras, HomeKit supports a wide variety of other accessories. But many accessories don't simply connect through HomeKit; They also connect over the Internet and through your router. Unfortunately, this can leave them open to attack and we want to make sure this doesn't happen. That's why we're bringing HomeKit to routers. Now, with HomeKit on the router, we'll automatically cut off each of your accessories, so even if one was compromised, it wouldn't be able to access your other devices or compromise your personal information. The first HomeKit-enabled routers will come from Linksys, Eero, and Internet service providers like Charter Spectrum. (Applause) Next, Messages.
Now, we've all gotten messages like this, like who is this guy? Well, wouldn't it be better if you could see something like this, or even this? Well, now you can because with iOS 13, you and the people you message will be able to share your name and photo, and even use Memoji or Animoji to create a photo of yourself. Now, this information is only shared when you message someone, so you have full control of who sees your name and photo. Now, since we're all going to be creating a lot more Memoji, we wanted them to reflect our personal style even better, so we added a ton of new makeup options, accessories, and more.
I would like some experts to take a quick look at it. DESI PERKINS: Hey guys. I'm Desi Perkins. PATRICK STARR: And I'm Patrick Starr. DESI PERKINS: We are beauty influencers. PATRICK STARR: From the Internet. Today we will show you how to create a cute and flirty Memoji look. DESI PERKINS: Using all the new makeup and accessories in iOS 13. PATRICK STARR: Starting with eyeshadow. DESI PERKINS: This is my favorite eyeshadow right now. It's called Apple Fuchsia Number Six and it comes in this really cute little toolbar. PATRICK STARR: Close your eyes. Let me see. DESI PERKINS: Lipstick.

DESI PERKINS: Piercings. PATRICK STARR: Nose ring, forehead ring, earring, lip ring, tongue ring. DESI PERKINS: Can you customize your teeth and hair? Oh, braces, gap tooth, missing tooth. PATRICK STARR: A mini grill. DESI PERKINS: Earrings, do you think this will look great? I am allergic to fake jewelry. PATRICK STARR: Okay, moving on, hair. How about this? DESI PERKINS: We have to take a screenshot. What other thing?
Hats. PATRICK STARR: Hats. DESI PERKINS: And glasses. PATRICK STARR: Cute, cute, cute, cute, cute, cute. What do we have here? DESI PERKINS: Last but not least - DESI PERKINS AND PATRICK STARR: AirPods. PATRICK STARR: Everyone, these are our finished looks. DESI PERKINS: Thank you, Pat, for joining me. PATRICK STARR: Oh, of course. Thanks for joining me. Don't forget to like and subscribe. Thank you. DESI PERKINS: And Craig, I have some advice for you. Let's connect after the show. (Applause) CRAIG FEDERIGHI: I think that's given us all a lot to think about. (laughs) Now we're all going to have a lot of fun customizing our own Memoji and that's why we wanted to give you even more ways to use them.
So, we are introducing something new. It's called Memoji stickers. (Applause) Now, instead of expressing yourself like this with emoji in your conversations, now you can do it like this. We automatically create a sticker pack for each of your Memoji. Now, of course, you can use them in Messages, but we've also built them in along with emojis on the system keyboard so you can use them in apps like Mail or your other favorite apps like WeChat. And we've made them usable not only in more apps but also on more devices because, while animating a Memoji puppet with your face requires a device with a True Depth camera system, Memoji stickers and Memoji editor support are now supported with all devices. with an A9 or later chip.
Next. (Applause) Next, I want to move on to Camera and Photos, where we've given you great new ways to capture, edit, and experience your photos. Now I'm going to start with portrait lighting, where we put the power of the studio right in your pocket. In iOS 13, we take portrait lighting to a new level. And it starts with a brand new effect we call high pitch mono. It looks just amazing. Now, we're also expanding portrait lighting so you can adjust the intensity of the lighting effect just as you would in a lighting studio by moving the lights closer or further away from your subject.
So when you increase the intensity of the light, it's like you're virtually bringing the light closer. This has the effect of smoothing the skin, brightening the eyes and facial features. Or you can remove it for a subtle, more refined look. And we tailor this effect uniquely to each style of portrait lighting. Next, I want to move on to photo editing. We have a completely new experience for you to control every element of your photo. You can see all your settings at a glance, and with just a touch and drag you can make adjustments. It applies to all of our existing effects and many more that are new in iOS 13.
But we are, yes. (Applause) But what's really cool is that we're bringing all of this on video for the first time. (Applause) Now, for the first time, you can rotate a video. How are you? (Applause) But, of course, much more. You can apply filters and all these effects. It's just amazing. But, you know, our biggest change this year is in the way you can explore and experience your photos. You know, we all have so many photos in our library, so many cool things in there, but often everything is overwhelmed by images of receipts, whiteboards and screenshots.
That's why we now use advanced machine learning to remove duplicates and clutter, letting you focus on your best shots. And we're taking these photos and we're cleverly organizing them to create a sort of diary of your life. By using it, you will be amazed at how you discover the moments in your life that matter most to you. Now we do all this within a new Photos tab. And so to show you, I'd like to bring up our photos app team leader, Justin Titi, to give you a live demo. Justin? JUSTIN TITI: Thanks, Craig. I'm so excited to show you the new Photos app.
Let us begin. So here we are in all the photos. It has a new home here in the Photos tab. We've also given you more control over how you view all of your photos. You can simply pinch out and see a bunch of photos or you can zoom in and see more details. It's really fast and fluid. Now, as you can see, I take a lot of photos of my kids trying to capture that perfect moment. Many times my best shots are lost in the sea of images. That's what the days are for. I just tap here at the bottom.
You can see that the days are absolutely beautiful. The clutter of similar photographs has disappeared. I can just scroll and enjoy now. So Photos uses intelligence to create these awesome layouts of my photos. Every day looks great. And you can watch videos like this in time lapses that automatically play for me, which really brings my library back to life. Like live photos, they help merelive those really fun moments. And a simple trip to the farmers market makes me feel like a professional photographer. So days is simply the best way to explore your photos. So let's look at the months.
Just touching and even moving between views is beautiful. Thus, Months organizes the most significant events in my library month by month. So here's a trip I took to Tahoe, my kids' last day of school and my wife's birthday. Now, this is a video we all take but usually forget to enjoy and now I'm playing it right here. Really fun concert and of course last year's WWDC; These labs were wonderful. So, it's months. It makes it really easy to browse the top hits in your library in a single view. So let's go to the years. So the years give me a high-level overview of my library.
What makes the years really special is that they are dynamic depending on my context. Today is WWDC and the photos know that I go to WWDC every year, so now they show me all my WWDCs from the past. Test it. Is awesome. (Applause) I can go back... I can go back to my first WWDC in 2011. I was very excited to be at that

keynote

. Now, the years can do much more. What if today was my daughter's birthday? Let me show you what that would look like. So the years have now totally transformed and it's all about my daughter.
As a proud father, this brings me so much joy. It has grown very fast. Her first bike, those fun times when every meal was a disaster, and this is her first smile. And this video brings that moment back to life for me. I can just tap and relive that whole great day. This is the new Photos application. We think you're really going to love it. Back to you, Craig. (Applause) CRAIG FEDERIGHI: Thanks, Justin. We are so excited for you to try this. When you experience it with your own photos, it is a very meaningful experience. That's Camera and Photos, and as you can see, there's a lot to experience in iOS 13.
And now, while much of our interaction with the iPhone is done through touch, we also experience iOS in many other ways. We use iOS when we're on the go with our AirPods, when we get together to listen to our favorite music on the HomePod. And when we are traveling with CarPlay. And of course, Siri brings all of these experiences together. So to tell you what's new with AirPods, HomePod, CarPlay, and Siri, I'd like to invite Stacey Lysik, our Senior Director of OS Program Management, to the show and stage. Stacy. (Applause) STACEY LYSIK: Thanks, Craig. Let's start with AirPods, where we have a couple of great new features coming to iOS 13.
First, when you use AirPods, Siri will now be able to read your incoming messages as soon as they arrive and you'll be able to respond instantly. Let's take a quick look and see how it works. SIRI: Amy said, "Can you meet for coffee at 9:00 am?" MALE SPEAKER: Tell him I'll be there. SIRI: It is sent. (Applause) STACEY LYSIK: Simple as that, Siri helps you stay in the moment, whether the incoming notification comes from the Messages app or any third-party messaging app that uses SiriKit. (Applause) Another great new feature is audio sharing. We've all had a moment when we wanted to share a movie or song with a friend.
Now you can do it with just one touch. (Applause) Like everything that happens with AirPods, the experience is magical. And when you get home, there's no better way to continue listening to music than with the HomePod and its incredible sound quality. To make that transition seamless, we added Handoff to HomePod. (Applause) Now, when you walk in the door, simply hold your iPhone close to your HomePod to instantly stream your music, a Podcast, or even a phone call. And you can take it with you when you leave in exactly the same way. (Applause) Today we present Live Radio.
Then, you can ask Siri to play stations from iHeartRadio, Tune In, and Radio.com. In fact, we have more than 100,000 radio stations from all over the world. (Applause) Now, HomePod can learn to recognize who in your family is speaking and personalize the response. (Applause) Of course, this is great with Apple Music, so now when you ask Siri to play music, it's based on your tastes and listening history and not anyone else's, and the customization goes a long way. beyond music, to Messages and Reminders. , Notes and more. So that's the HomePod. Next, let's move on to CarPlay.
CarPlay leads the industry in adoption with availability in over 90% of cars sold here in the US and 75% of cars sold globally. This year, we have our biggest CarPlay update since the beginning. It all starts with the CarPlay dashboard, where you can now have your music next to your maps and still have room for Siri's smart suggestions, like a garage door opener when you approach home or a view of your next calendar event. . You can see your entire day in the new Calendar app. The music has been redesigned so that your album art is front, center and beautiful.
Siri stays out of the way so you don't lose sight of what's on the screen. Siri has always been great for getting directions or requesting music and now works with third-party apps like Pandora and Waze. (Applause) As you've seen, Siri is with you in much of what we do on iOS, and last year Siri became even more powerful with the introduction of Siri Shortcuts. Shortcuts let you use your apps through Siri, and in the Shortcuts app, you can create your own custom multi-step shortcut. Now, in iOS 13, the app is integrated and more powerful than ever. It's now the only place you access all your shortcuts, including the ones you've added to Siri, and we're making it easier to get started with your first multi-step shortcut using a new feature called suggested automations that take your habits and personalize them to a template level like returning home or going to the gym.
An integral part of all of these experiences is the Siri sound. When we started with Siri's voice, we used short audio clips from actor recordings, but sometimes when we put them together it didn't always sound as natural as we wanted. That's why this year we've taken a big step forward using cutting-edge machine learning called Neural Text to Speech, where, for the first time, the voice you hear is generated entirely by software. As a result, it's more: it has a more natural cadence and better emphasis. It's most noticeable when Siri says longer or more complex sentences. Let's listen together starting with iOS 12.
SIRI: Absolute zero is the lower limit of the thermodynamic temperature scale, a state in which the enthalpy and entropy of a cooled ideal gas reach their minimum value taken as zero. STACEY LYSIK: All right. Then it's okay. But now let's try iOS 13 with Neural Text to Speech. SIRI: Absolute zero is the lower limit of the thermodynamic temperature scale, a state in which the enthalpy and entropy of a cooled ideal gas reach their minimum value taken as zero. STACEY LYSIK: Much better. Better. (Applause) So, that's Siri along with AirPods, HomePod, and CarPlay. Thank you. Back to you, Craig.
CRAIG FEDERIGHI: Thank you, Stacey. So that's our next big iOS release, iOS 13, and there's a lot of things we didn't have time to talk about, like the ability to deal with spam calls by sending unknown calls directly to voicemail. Yes. (Applause) Either low data mode or, for our business customers, the ability to single sign in to business accounts and have separate iCloud accounts for your personal and work life. (Applause) So, you may notice that one thing is missing from the iOS 13 story and that is the iPad. Yes. (Applause) Now, from the beginning, the iPad has been built on the technical foundations of iOS, so of course it includes all of these great new features that we're bringing to the iPhone.
But over the years, the iPad has also evolved into something unique. You know, with its giant canvas and powerful features like swipe and split view, drag and drop, and Apple Pencil, the iPad offers a truly different experience. Big changes are coming for the iPad this year, and the time has come to recognize the platform in a special way. We'll see. (Music) (Applause) CRAIG FEDERIGHI: That's right. We call it iPad OS and I'd like to take a first look at it. So, let's take a look at the iPad operating system. Swipe home and the first thing you'll notice is this tighter grid of icons, allowing you to have more tools at your disposal right on your home screen.
But what I think is cool is seeing what happens when I swipe. Now I can pin my widgets directly to my home screen. (Applause) It's wonderful. You get a lot of information at a glance. Let's move on to multitasking. Let's start by swiping up. Launch Safari and swipe in from the right side of the screen. You can see I have messages there right now. Now, of course, I can change the application that I have on the slide. I can just grab Reminders and drag it around. Now I have Reminders on the slide, so next time it comes out, of course, there will be Reminders.
But what if I want to go back to the last application? Could we make it super easy? The answer is yes. I can just drag from the bottom and they fan out like this. (Applause) With just one touch, I can switch apps. I can even just swipe across the bottom to quickly move between my apps by swiping. It's really great. Now, next, I'd like to talk about Split View because we're now bringing multi-window capabilities to iPad apps. For example, I have a single note here in Notes, but why do I want to have two notes next to each other?
Well, now I can. I can tap, drag and now I have a split with two notes. (Applause) Now, I can also use this in spaces, so here I have two notes, but here I have a Pages document. What if I have some notes I want to use while working on my Pages document? Well, I'll just slide in, make another note, and I can go back to the Pages space and drop it in there. Now I have Pages right next to Notes. Now that I have notes in all these different spaces, well, you can guess how I can find them, right?
I simply open the Dock, tap Notes, and now we have the app exposed on the iPad. Here are all my Notes spaces in one place. Now this simply doesn't work for system apps. It also works for third party applications. So in addition to Notes here and Pages, I can have two Microsoft Word documents side by side. I mean, that's entrepreneurial. (Laughs) And it works really well for some of the workflows in apps like Mail. So, for example, let's say I want to reply to this message from Phil. Well, of course, I can start writing to Phil and then realize that I'd like to tap into some of the other contents of my inbox for this response.
I can drag that compose window to the side into Split View, even create a split so I can see all my messages. I can access these other messages. If I find an image that I want to put in my message to Phil, just tap on it, drag it like this and look at this; If there's a link I want to preview, just tap and hold. I get a preview of that web page. That seems perfect for Phil. Just leave it here just like that. Compose better through multitasking on iPad. And that's a quick look at the new home screen and new multitasking in iPad OS. (Applause) But there is much more.
Let's start with Files. Now when you browse Files, of course, you have icon view and list view. Well, how about the column view? Great for drilling down into deep file hierarchies. You get a great file preview right here and quick actions for things like rotating documents: images, creating PDFs, and great, rich metadata right at the bottom. We're also now improving the way you can share files. For example, in iCloud Drive, we now support folder sharing. (Applause) And listen to this; We also have built-in support for SMB file sharing so you can share from your work or home PC, directly to the files.
Now there is one more. That's right, now you can connect a USB stick. (Applause) So USB sticks, external drives, and SD cards appear directly in the Files app, but now this one is cool too. Sometimes when you're working with a camera, you'd like to import it directly into an app like Light Room and now you can. (Applause) Of course, there is much, much more. This is a big year for Files and it's also a big year for Safari. You know, Safari is simply the perfect device for browsing the Internet. It's like having the Web in your hands, and this year we're making Safari more capable than ever.
When you look at the Web today, it often falls into two broad categories. On the one hand, you have the mobile Web designed for screenssmall and mobile devices, and desktop sites designed for large screens, like your Mac. And often, websites offer the wrong thing for the iPad. Well, not anymore, because we're bringing desktop browsing to Safari on iPad. (Applause) Now with this, Safari does all the heavy lifting, so instead of the mobile site, you'll see the desktop site, but it will be perfectly sized for the iPad screen and automatically optimized for touch input. Now this also works great for apps like Google Docs, Square Space, and Word Press.
They all work great in Safari now and the desktop-class experience doesn't end there. We're also adding a download manager to Safari. (Applause) Thirty new keyboard shortcuts and much, much more. Next, I want to talk about sources. Now, we all know that fonts bring out the personality of a project, and this year we're giving you a new way to use custom fonts within your favorite apps. You can download them directly from the App Store. We are working with leading font providers. Next, we take a big step forward in text editing, making it even faster with the power of Multi Touch.
So when browsing long documents, you can now grab the scroll indicator and jump to any part of the document instantly. (Applause) Now moving the cursor is easier than ever. Simply pick it up and drag it wherever you want it to go. And selecting text, simply swipe down and drag a selection. There's no need to double-tap and no magnifying glass to get in your way. And if. And when you have a selection, look at this, you want to copy or cut, you just pinch with three fingers to copy and spread three fingers to drop it. This works in all types of applications. (Applause) And if you make a mistake, don't worry, just swipe with three fingers to undo it.
No more shaking that iPad. (Applause) Finally, I would like to talk about the Apple Pencil. The Apple Pencil has quickly become an indispensable tool for many iPad users. It's perfect for marking up documents, taking notes, or making illustrations. A key part of that experience is the incredibly low latency of the Apple Pencil. You know, our goal was to make it indistinguishable from making marks on a physical sheet of paper. Now, the Apple Pencil already leads the industry with a record latency of twenty milliseconds, but we've been optimizing and improving our prediction algorithms and today we're reducing that latency to 9 milliseconds.
Is incredible. (Applause) Now, of course, an important part of your experience using your Pencil is a great tool palette and a great toolset, and so now on iPad OS, we've redesigned it and we're providing a PencilKit developer API , so third party apps can have the same great experience. We've also made it much easier to mark anything in any app. You can simply drag the stylus up from the corner of the screen and you will be on the markup. You can mark up a screenshot or even an entire document. This works very well throughout the system. Now, to show you Pencil in action, I'd like to invite Toby Paterson, our Senior Director in charge of the iPad system experience, to give you a demo.
Toby. (Applause) TOBY PATERSON: Thanks, Craig. Well. Well, let's move on to Notes here and take a look at the new text editing gestures. It starts with a tap to place the cursor at the top of the screen, and then to move the cursor, we'll just grab it with our finger, whoops, grab it with our finger and place it exactly where you want it. Now, for typing, there's the standard keyboard, of course, but look what happens when I pinch it with two fingers. It comes down to a new compact design and is really great for typing with a finger or thumb while holding your iPad. (Applause) I know.
I do it a lot. And you can use the fast route here. Oops. So. Now, to select text, just hold your finger on a word, sorry. Hold your finger on a word and simply drag it like this and our new gestures will make editing text a breeze. It's a three-finger pinch, once to copy or twice in a row to cut, and then a three-finger release gesture to paste it into place like this. Now... (Applause) It's really easy. Now, to undo your gestures or undo your changes, I want to assure you that you can still shake your iPad if you want, but I find it a little easier to swipe left with three fingers.
I also want to point out that these gestures are not just limited to text editing. They will work in any application that supports copy/paste, undo and redo. Well. Let's switch now and talk about the pencil. So you can see here in the tools palette with its beautiful new design, the new tools, and now you can drag them around the screen like this. You can pin it to any edge of the screen, minimize it to the bottom that way, and then with a tap or drag, bring it back up. Now, of course, Notes has been tailored to work very well with the Pencil, but you can use it to mark up any app on your iPad.
Let's move on to Safari here and I'll show you how it works. So, Craig put me in charge of the next external software and I want to share an idea with him. So, check this out. Watch me drag from the corner of the iPad with my pencil like this. It takes you directly to the markup where you can see a screenshot of exactly what you were looking at. But many apps can now support a new full page capture mode that you select with this button at the top. Here you can see the complete document you were viewing.
You can scroll through it or use the sidebar on the right to quickly navigate and, as you would expect, you can mark it with your stylus like this. I bet we have some Rush fans in the crowd today, I think. (Applause) Yes. I think Craig would make a great Alex Lifeson. Now when he's done, he just opens the share sheet and he can send it right from here and that's how he can easily mark up anything on his iPad. Now back to you, Craig. Thank you. (Applause) CRAIG FEDERIGHI: Thanks, Toby. These are big improvements for Apple Pencil and much more for iPad OS.
There are a ton of great new features that take iPad OS to the next level. Well, that's what I have for you now. I'll give it back to Tim. Thank you so much. (Applause) TIM COOK: Thanks, Craig. These are just awesome great releases. iPad OS, built on top of iOS, takes the distinctive iPad experience even further. In a powerful new version of iOS, iOS 13, we can't wait for all of you to get your hands on these fantastic new releases. Now, let's move on to the Mac. (Applause) We love the Mac and so do our customers. In fact, Mac is by far number one in customer satisfaction in the industry.
People use their Macs to create amazing things, simply and powerfully. We have the strongest Mac lineup we've ever had, from the new MacBook Air to the powerful iMac Pro. And for Mac users looking to push the limits of performance, there's one more place in our lineup where the team has been working very hard to fill. (Applause) Yes. Creating a product that will take Mac further than ever and I'm very excited and excited to show it to you now. (Applause) (Music) (Applause) TIM COOK: This is the new MacPro and it's amazing. (Applause) It has a truly magnificent design and extraordinary performance to match.
It's the most powerful Mac we've ever created. And to tell you everything, I would like to invite John Ternus to the stage. John. (Applause) JOHN TERNUS: Thanks, Tim. I'm very excited to tell you about this new MacPro. Now, when designing this product, we wanted to create an architecture that could meet the incredible diversity of professional needs, a system that offers virtually unlimited customization possibilities. And the key to this is a simple and elegant solution to access the internal components. Now, inside you will find a stainless steel frame that forms a strong internal structure for the entire system and provides a foundation for modularity and flexibility.
The structure also incorporates stainless steel handles. They feel great in the hand and make it easy to move the system around. All internal modules are mounted on this frame, meaning users have 360-degree access to easily configure components and each subsystem has been optimized for performance. So, let's start with the processor. Now, we've designed this new MacPro for our customers who need the latest in CPU performance for tasks like production rendering, playing hundreds of virtual instruments, or simulating an iOS app on multiple devices at once. So, we are using a new Intel Xeon processor and it has up to twenty-eight cores. (Applause) And to squeeze every last ounce of performance out of this processor, we're giving it over 300 watts of power and a huge heatsink for cooling, which means it can run unrestricted all the time.
We now also have a very high-performance memory architecture. Six channels of super-fast ECC memory in 12 DIMM slots enable an incredible 1.5 terabytes of system memory. (Applause) Now let's talk about expansion. Many of our professional customers need to add things like Fiber Channel or SDI audio or video DPS to their systems, so we're bringing PCI expansion back to the Mac in a big way. (Applause) Because this new MacPro has eight internal PCI slots. There are four double-width slots and three single-width slots, and there is an additional half-length slot that we complete with an I/O card. Now, this I/O card has two Thunderbolt 3 ports, two USB-A ports, and an audio jack, and there are also two more Thunderbolt 3 ports conveniently located on the top of the system.
And finally, the MacPro has two built-in 10-gigabit Ethernet ports. So one of the most critical areas of expansion is graphics. Graphics performance is very important for tasks like animating 3D movie assets or compositing 8K scenes or creating complex 3D environments, but we wanted to go beyond the typical graphics card design, so we invented something completely new. Now, it starts with an industry-standard PCI connector, so the slot maintains compatibility with standard cards. We've added a second connector that allows us to integrate Thunderbolt throughout the system and provide a huge amount of additional power. In fact, at 500 watts, this module has the same power capacity as the entire previous generation MacPro.
And instead of adding its own dedicated fan, we have a massive heatsink that's quietly cooled by the MacPro thermal system. We call this the MacPro expansion module or MPX for short, and using this architecture we are going to offer multiple graphics options, starting with the Radeon Pro 580X, a great all-around graphics card. For a big boost in graphics performance, the MacPro can be configured with AMD's Radeon Pro Vega II. Vega II offers 14 teraflops of graphics computing and 32 gigabytes of memory with an incredible memory bandwidth of 1 terabyte per second. But we didn't stop there because with the increased headroom of the MPX module, we can use two Vega II GPUs to double the teraflops, double the memory, and double the memory bandwidth.
This is simply the most powerful graphics card in the world. Now, these two GPUs are connected via Infinity Fabric Link, which allows data transfer between them five times faster than the PCI BUS. This is really important for applications optimized to take advantage of multiple GPUs. And if all of this wasn't crazy enough, the MacPro can be configured with two of these modules. (Applause) Enabling up to 56 teraflops and 128 gigabytes of high-bandwidth memory. This is an incredible amount of graphics computing on a single workstation. Now we've also done something really special for video editing. One of the challenges when working with high-quality cameras is the need to convert native files to proxy servers for easier editing.
This is a time-consuming and error-prone process. Being able to work directly with native formats would be a game-changer for these high-level workflows, so we've created a new card we call Afterburner that turns your MacPro into a monster video editing machine. Afterburner is a hardware accelerator card built with an FPGA which is a programmable ASIC and this ASIC is capable of processing 6 billion pixels per second. (Applause) So with this custom solution, we have achieved an unprecedented level of performance for the ProRes and ProRes RAW codecs. The most powerful workstations in the world today struggle to play just one 8K video stream, but with Afterburner, the new MacPro can play three incredible 8K Pro Res RAW streams. (Applause) Or 12 4K streams.
This is groundbreaking performance and means we can finally say goodbye to proxy workflows. Now, of course, all this computing requires an enormous amount ofpower, so we've given each MacPro a 1.4 kilowatt power supply. Of course, all that power requires a tremendously capable cooling system. So the MacPro has three huge fans and one blower that together can generate up to 300 cubic feet per minute of airflow and is very quiet. In fact, when it's under your desk under typical load conditions, it's as quiet as an iMac Pro. To seal the thermal system, the beautiful aluminum case slides over the frame and snaps into place.
And its exclusive three-dimensional vents are machined on both the internal and external surfaces. The resulting lightweight lattice pattern maximizes airflow while creating an extremely rigid structure. And finally, optional wheels make it easy to move the MacPro around the studio. (Applause) As you can see, utility and function define the design of the new MacPro, and while the specs we've been talking about are impressive, we've really focused on delivering real performance where it matters most. To do this, we have been working closely with several professional application developers. This includes Adobe, Auto Desk, Serif and Blackmagic, who today announce support for the new MacPro.
In fact, Blackmagic is seeing amazing performance improvements. With the Afterburner card doing the heavy lifting of decoding video, they can take advantage of the CPU and GPUs to add real-time effects and coloring on native 8K content. This is a workflow that has never been possible before the new MacPro. Side FX, Red, Epic and Avid are also announcing support today. (Applause) Avid is taking advantage of the incredible expansion capabilities of the MacPro to do something never before possible in a single workstation. They are allowing support for up to six HDX cards. This produces more I/O, more voices, and twice the DSP processing than any other system can achieve. 3D application developers such as Unity, Pixar, Foundry and Maxon also announce their support.
Maxon is seeing 20% faster GPU rendering performance in Cinema 4D than on a Windows workstation maxed out with three of the latest Nvidia Quadro cards. We are very excited to announce that Maxon is bringing its Redshift rendering engine to Mac optimized for Metal. And finally... (Applause) There you have it. The folks at Otoy are already hard at work creating a version of Octane that will really shine with the incredible GPU performance of the new MacPro. We are delighted with the enthusiasm and commitment we are seeing from all of these great developers. And of course, our internal applications teams are also very excited about the MacPro.
So now I'd like to mention David Earl from our Pro X marketing team to give you a first-hand look at some of the amazing things you can do in Logic and Final Cut on the new MacPro. David? (Applause) DAVID EARL: Thank you, John. I'm excited to show you Logic Pro 10 running on the new MacPro. To start, let's open this musical score from a documentary we are working on that was filmed in Kenya. What you see here is a Logic project and each row is a track and each track represents the performance of an individual musical instrument.
So, let's listen. (Music) Okay. So, we wanted to have some fun and see how far we could take this powerful new Mac. What you're seeing here is a completely new version of Logic and the theme of this version is all about performance. So to show the performance, I'll use these incredibly realistic sampler instrument libraries. I use the libraries to make it sound exactly like a real orchestra when I create my parts. So, let's add a 50-piece percussion ensemble to the score. And you know what, how about a 100-piece orchestra? And how about another full orchestra just because, you know, we can?
Now, many composers have to add a second and third computer to be able to run these massive orchestral libraries, but the new MacPro with CPU and RAM power can do all this in a single unit. So of course I'll need a lot more to power this MacPro. So let's add a lot more clues. We've never seen this before in Logic. I have 300, 400, 500, now we can have a thousand audio tracks and a thousand software instruments in Logic. (Applause) That's four times the amount we had in our previous version of Logic, and of course with all this going on we have to check the CPU.
Opening up the performance meter, i.e. 56 threads on 28 cores with more tracks and plugins than we've ever seen in Logic before. The MacPro still has power to spare. It's a monster to run Logic on. Well. Now, let's bring this musical score into Final Cut. It is the soundtrack of this beautiful documentary that was filmed and edited in HDR. Follow Ami Vitale. She is a world-renowned photojournalist who was recently assigned to Kenya. Now, what we see here, we've never seen before on a Mac. This is an 8K ProRes RAW render at full resolution. Now, what makes 8K so amazing is that there are over 33 million pixels in each frame, which means it looks great on a huge screen like this, but includes enough resolution for us to crop and reframe for projects. 4K and, you know, we can add real-time 8K effects like this animated title, and I think I'm going to go in and add some advanced color correction and non-stop lens flares.
I don't have to wait for it to render. Now, so far we've been looking at a single 8K ProRes RAW stream, but this computer has Afterburner installed, which means we can take it even further and we can have our single 8K ProRes RAW stream, add another 8K stream and what? such a third 8K ProRes RAW stream running simultaneously. That's 100 million pixels. This has never been seen. (Applause) Never seen before in any video editing software on any computer. The MacPro is an 8K powerhouse and by far the most powerful Mac ever created for professional filmmakers and musicians.
Thank you. Back to you, John. (Applause) JOHN TERNUS: Thank you, David. That performance is crazy. This is the new MacPro. It's the most configurable, most expandable, and by far the most powerful Mac we've ever created. But of course, a great computer deserves a great display, and to tell you more about that, I'd like to talk to you about Colleen Novielli from the Mac Product Marketing team. Girl? (Applause) COLLEEN NOVIELLI: Thank you, John. Good day. Screens are incredibly important to our professional customers because they play a vital role in creating the best work of their lives. However, today, if you look at their wish list, there is no single display that offers them all the features they have asked for, and this feature, High Dynamic Range or HDR, is increasingly requested because it is not yet available. delivered with professional level precision. .
So what is HDR? HDR is a way to bring content to life by better reflecting what the eye can see in the real world. The eye sees the brightest specular highlights, truly dark blacks, deep, vibrant colors, and all the details in between. Today, more and more devices can play HDR content, so more and more professionals who create that content need a great HDR display. There is a class of screens. They are commonly called reference monitors and offer true HDR along with these features, but they still lack these features and are incredibly expensive. This one costs $43,000. Our goal was simple.
Create a display that expertly delivers all the features professionals have asked for. Like the MacPro, the design is impressive and every element is designed for professionals. And it's the most incredible panel we've ever done. It is a 32-inch LCD display with over 20 million pixels and at 218 pixels per inch, it is a 6K retina display. (Applause) It's the largest retina display we've ever made. It's more than 40% larger than the iMac 5K's display, giving professionals even more space for their tools and content. It has P3 and built-in 10-bit true color and reference modes. All calibrated by experts in the factory.
And we keep that color accurate at a super wide viewing angle by using a state-of-the-art polarizer. On the contrary, it is twenty-five times better than a typical LCD screen. (Applause) It's amazing. Now the glass cover has our industry-leading anti-reflective coating, but for challenging lighting conditions, we've created an innovative matte option. So most matte screens add a layer to the glass and this layer disperses light, but also adds unwanted haze and glare and reduces contrast. So instead, we precisely etch the glass to get a nano-textured surface, which means improved image quality and contrast along with low reflectivity.
Next, we've delivered HDR to a level never seen before. Now, to get great HDR images, you need extreme brightness along with extreme contrast or deep blacks, and this is incredibly difficult to achieve. That's why we've designed a backlight system like no other in the world. Firstly, a large array of blue LEDs generate extreme brightness. We calibrate each LED on each display in the factory and then this feeds a massive algorithm and then modulates each LED based on the content quickly. We then use custom lenses and reflectors to precisely shape and control the light. Now, a typical thermal system would make this impossible to achieve for more than a few minutes.
So, we did something amazing. We designed the rear lattice pattern to act as a heat sink and this doubles the surface area, silently drawing heat away from each LED. The results are incredible. This display can maintain 1000 nits of full screen brightness indefinitely. (Applause) Forever. And a maximum of 1,600 nits. And this will allow our professionals to do things they have been dreaming of. So, for example, video editors can now work with their HDR content exactly as intended and photographers can now edit an amazing HDR image like this for hours. And that's not all. Those images will have gorgeous, incredibly nuanced contrast, an incredible million-to-one contrast ratio. (Applause) The images produced by this exhibition are truly impressive.
With these capabilities, we have taken this path beyond high dynamic range. This is Extreme Dynamic Range or XDR, which is why we call this display Pro Display XDR. (Applause) We've now included all the features on the pro wish list, but there's more. Thunderbolt 3 will provide seamless connectivity with a single cable. So with a 15-inch MacBook Pro, you can have an incredible desktop setup with two displays, or with the new MacPro, you can connect a whopping six displays with 6K resolution and 120 million pixels. Yes. (Applause) Woo. Yes. Courting. That's how it is. Now, there is one more feature that does not attract much attention on other screens and that is the stand, which is as professional as the screen itself.
First of all, it has an incredible counterweight arm that makes the screen appear practically weightless. Provides tilt and height adjustment and maintains screen angle when raised or lowered and has rotation for portrait mode. Yes. (Applause) And this is perfect for retouching photographs, designing a website or writing code. Yes. And it is removable. Quickly detaches from display for packing up and carrying to location. And finally, for professionals with unique mounting requirements, we've designed a base quantity adapter that connects in seconds. So, that's the new Pro Display XDR. It's the only display in the industry that offers all the features on a professional's wish list and more.
And now, all professionals can use the same display throughout their entire workflow and have the same incredible XDR viewing experience with all the features they need to create the best work of their life, making it the best professional display of the world. And now back to you, John. (Applause) JOHN TERNUS: Thank you, Colleen. This is what the new MacPro and Pro Display XDR are like. Innovative in every way, they deliver performance and capabilities that will forever change professional workflows. Now, the new MacPro will start with an eight-core Xeon processor, 32 gigabytes of memory, Radeon Pro 580X, and a 256 gigabyte SSD.
If you look at other systems configured with comparable components, you'll see that they cost around $8,000. The new MacPro will start at $5,999. (Applause) And it will be available this fall. Now, we know that many customers who use MacPros really want to be able to mount them in racks in edit bays and machine rooms. So to support this, we will also have a version optimized for rack deployment. (Applause) As for the Pro Display XDR, well, the reference monitors we're talking about can cost tens of thousands of dollars and still not match the packageof functions. The Pro Display XDR will cost $4,999 for the display itself.
And the nanotexture version will cost $5,999. The VESA mounting adapter will cost $199 and the professional mount will cost $999. And like the MacPro, all will be available in the fall. This is what the new MacPro and Pro Display XDR are like. Now, back to Tim. TIM COOK: Thank you. Thank you, John, and thank you Colleen. We can't wait to get the new MacPro and Pro Display XDR into the hands of our pro users and see all the wonderful things they'll create with them. Now, the engine of the Mac experience is macOS, the world's most advanced desktop operating system. (Applause) The latest version of macOS is Mojave with system-wide dark mode and new features for both the browser and desktop that were inspired by professional users but designed for everyone.
It's been a big hit with Mac customers. The next version of macOS brings more exciting new features to Mac and to tell you all about it, I'd like to invite Craig back on stage. Craig. (Applause) CRAIG FEDERIGHI: It's great to be with all of you again. So for our next major release of macOS, we're heading out of the desert and into the beautiful waters of the California coast, a place for boating, diving, and more. It's macOS Catalina. (Applause) Catalina now includes exciting new features, some really cool new apps, and powerful technology for developers. We'll see. We start with iTunes.
Now, iTunes began to focus entirely on copying, mixing, and recording songs on your Mac. And then came the iTunes Music Store, kicking off the digital music revolution. And then he embraced Podcasts and redefined radio. And then video, which brought us movies on demand and ad-free television, and if that wasn't enough, it also handled all the synchronization, making the first iPods and iPhones possible. Well, now customers love iTunes and everything it can do. But if there's one thing we hear over and over again, it's can iTunes do even more? I think it can. How about Calendar in iTunes?
I mean, you could have all your quotes and your best leads right in one app. Could we go further? I think so. How about mail in iTunes? (Applause) And maybe Safari on iTunes? And how are you going to switch between these applications? Well, of course you'll add a dock. I believe we have made it. (Applause) "Truth be told," our team had a better idea. The future of Apple Music or iTunes not in one application but in three, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and Apple TV. (Applause) Let's start with Apple Music because Apple Music on Catalina is the best music app we've ever made.
With its singular focus on music, it's very simple, but has all the powerful music features you expect from iTunes while being incredibly fast. It's the best place for Apple Music subscribers, with personalized recommendations from a catalog of more than 50 million tracks. And for those of you who use iTunes to sync, we've also improved that experience because now when you plug your phone in, this is what you see. Nothing. (Applause) If you want to sync, you can find it in the sidebar of the finder; All your sync options are there. (Applause) And next, let's turn our attention to the Podcast.
It provides a dedicated podcast listening experience for Mac and features all the great features you're used to on iOS, like listen now, where you can watch new episodes and track your listening across all your devices, and it has a great new characteristic and has to do with search. You know, sometimes you hear something on the radio, maybe or a new podcast or something in the news and you think, oh, I want to hear more about that, but you're not sure what show it was on or even what it appeared on. title. Well, we now use machine learning to index the spoken content of Podcasts, so now you can search for that content and find the Podcast with just a few clicks in the app.
It's great. (Applause) And finally, the Apple TV app, your new home for TV and music on Mac. Now, you'll love having access to Watch Now, including all your great channels like HBO and Showtime, and you also have all your purchased movies for iTunes , and they've never looked or sounded better because now on recent Macs, you have support for 4K HDR playback on Mac with HDR10 and Dolby Vision. And also Dolby Atmos playback so you experience incredible spatial audio rendered directly from your MacBook speakers. That's Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple TV, and now I want to move on to something new.
We call it a sidecar. Yes. Now, Mac users love to connect their laptop to an external display so they can distribute their work, but often when they have to go out on the road, they have to leave that screen behind. Well, not anymore, because now you can use your iPad as a second screen for your Mac. (Applause) It's great. You can distribute your work on your iPad, but of course some professional users like to use these dedicated tablets to make precise input on their Mac. Well, now with the iPad and Apple Pencil you can do that too.
It works both wired and wireless so you can feel comfortable and works with all your favorite tablet-compatible Mac apps. Now, the next thing I want to address is accessibility. We now believe that technology is more powerful when everyone can use it. That's why we design a wide range of assistive technologies into all of our products. Now, for users with physical motor limitations, voice can be an extremely powerful way to operate a computer. And this year, we're proud to introduce voice control. Now, voice control allows you to control your Mac completely with your voice and not only that.
We will also bring it to iOS. I would like to show you how transformative this can be. MALE SPEAKER: Wake up. Voice control is an innovative feature that gives you full control of your devices, comma, just with your voice, period. It's a whole new way to do everything you love, period. Like this. Right love. 16. Open photos. Scroll up. Show numbers. 13. Click share. 3. Tim, next field. Let's ride this one today. Thumbs up emoji. Click submit. Open maps. Show grid. Hold it down. 20. Open the app switcher. 4. Tap share. Play Tim. It's time to send. Hey, it's good to see you.
Open music. Turn up the volume. (Applause) CRAIG FEDERIGHI: So, that's voice control. Now, take advantage of Siri's latest voice recognition technology to accurately understand what you're saying and all those commands, and of course, your voice is processed locally on the device so none of that audio reaches Apple. Now, next, I want to move on to a new solution that will help you find your Mac in case it is ever lost or stolen. It's called Find My. Now, Find My combines Find My iPhone with Find My Friends and is now also available on Mac and iOS devices.
And it has a new twist because now you can even locate Apple devices that are offline. Now, this is particularly important for Macs because often your laptop is folded in a bag, sitting idle, and no longer on the network. Now the way this works is really cool. Let's say you've misplaced your MacBook. So even when offline and sleeping, it sends a secure Bluetooth beacon that can be detected by other people's Apple devices nearby. Now, they can broadcast your MacBook's location to the network and ultimately get back to you so you can find it. Now, the amazing thing is that all this interaction is end-to-end encrypted and anonymous.
It uses only small chunks of data that take advantage of existing network traffic, so there's no need to worry about battery life, data usage, or privacy. Next, activation lock. We've added Activation Lock to your Mac to make it much less attractive to thieves. It's available on all Macs with a T2 security chip and works just like it does on your iPhone and iPad. So in the unfortunate event that your Mac is ever stolen, the thief will find it completely useless because they can't even install or start it unless you reactivate it with your credentials. Now I want to move on to apps because there is a lot more to the story of apps in Catalina.
Now, you'll find, of course, the beautiful new photo browsing experience in Photos, an updated home page in Safari. The new gallery view in Notes. And a completely redesigned Reminders app, but also, for the first time, we're bringing Screen Time to Mac. Now, it has the same great iOS features, so you and your family can understand the full picture of your usage across all your devices and all The limits apply across all your devices. We think this will be great for families. Now, of course, Mac users also love third-party apps and love having more on the platform.
We've been working on a new project that we internally call Project Catalyst, and it's a new technology that allows developers to quickly and efficiently create Mac apps based on their existing iPad apps. There are now over a million apps for the iPad and we think some of them would be fantastic for the Mac. Now, iPad developers would of course also love to have a larger audience to sell their apps to and there are 100 million active Mac users waiting for you. Now, if you're running Mojave, you're already using Catalyst technology because we use it to create news, actions, voice memos, and home.
That was just V1 and we've learned a lot since then. We spent the last year expanding the number of app categories the technology could support and have fine-tuned it to result in a much better Mac app. We're excited to announce that today we're making Catalyst available to developers on macOS Catalina. (Applause) Now, the experience begins right here in XCode. Just open your existing iPad project and check the Mac checkbox. And just like that, you will get a big advantage because XCode automatically incorporates all the fundamental features like cursor controls, window controls, etc., and that allows you to focus on the touches. endings, maybe a translucent sidebar, dropdown bar. menus or any feature that would make your Mac great: your app on the Mac.
Now, this means that for the first time a development team can create a single app that can span from iPhone to iPad to Mac. Now, we've been working with several developers to preview the Catalyst technology and we've already seen some great Mac apps. For example, the fantastic racing game Asphalt 9: Legends from Gameloft. Here's what they had to say. "We had Asphalt 9: Legends for Mac running on day one. It looks stunning and runs super fast using Metal on powerful Mac hardware." And Twitter, excited to return to Mac with a native application. They said: "We had Twitter for Mac up and running, including native Mac features, in just a few days.
Now a single team can efficiently manage Twitter for iPhone, iPad, and Mac." And finally, we asked Atlassian, developers of Jira Cloud, the leading project management solution for agile software development, to try Catalyst. To tell you more about it, I'd like to invite Rob Chatfield, Senior iOS Engineer, to the stage. Rob, come up. (Applause) ROB CHATFIELD: Thanks, Craig. Jira has been on the web for years and we've recently put a lot of effort into mobile devices, like our iOS app that offers quick and easy access to your projects on the go. Many of you have asked us for a similar experience on Mac.
Well, today I'm delighted to announce that we've done just that. We were impressed that we were able to get the Jira project up and running in just a few days and it is a huge project. Now, our iOS developers are also Mac developers. One code base, one team. Here's a preview. The dashboards view looks amazing on the Mac screen with plenty of space for multitasking, and the advantage of being a native app is that it's incredibly fast. We can switch between these views instantly, which is a level of performance that you simply don't get on the web.
And this is a project, so all the work we did on iPad was automatically translated to Mac, like keyboard shortcuts, Spotlight, and Drag and Drop. And it was easy to add those finishing touches that make it perfect for the desk. For example, we add our main tasks to the custom toolbar. All of this would never have happened without Project Catalyst. We're so excited to bring the Jira app to Mac and can't wait for you to try it out. Then look for Jira Cloud in the Mac App Store later this year. Thank you so much. (Applause) CRAIG FEDERIGHI: We're very excited about this technology and excited to see what apps everyone brings to the Mac App Store this fall.
So that's macOS Catalina. Sidecar, solid security improvements, great new system apps, and Project CatalystThey provide a whole new way to bring new applications to the Mac. You know, you've seen a lot today in terms of tools for professional users and do you know who our largest group of professionals is? Well, you're developers, all of you. And, you know, everything we do for developers is focused on the goal of helping them create the best and most innovative applications, and we do that by giving them tools and technologies designed to give them an advantage. Well, we have a lot to talk about this year, like Metal and Core ML, but we'll cover it later in the conference.
Today I want to focus on just two areas. AR and Swift. And we'll start with AR. Today we have three really big announcements, starting with RealityKit. So, you know, creating complex 3D environments may require deep knowledge of 3D modeling and mastery of sophisticated game engines like Unity and Unreal, but what about developers who want to incorporate 3D and AR into their applications but don't have that? experience? ? Well, that's where RealityKit comes into play. It's built from the ground up for AR with photorealistic rendering, amazing effects like camera motion blur and noise, and it's seamlessly integrated into ARKit and has a native Swift API.
Now, how do you actually model your 3D content? Well, that's where Reality Composer comes into play. Reality Composer is a new drag-and-drop application: a drag-and-drop interface and a library of high-quality objects and animations that make creating an interactive environment incredibly fast and easy. Now, of course, it's integrated with XCode, but it's also available on iOS. So you can edit, test, and tune your app right on the device where it will eventually be delivered. Now, of course, the foundation of AR on iOS is ARKit, and ARKit is a major update. I want to focus on an area related to improving the way people are handled in AR scenes, starting with the occlusion of people.
Now this is crazy. (Applause) What once required painstaking handwriting can now be done in real time. (Applause) Now, knowing where these people are in the scenes, we can see that we can overlay virtual content in front of and behind them. And look at this; Motion capture. Simply point your camera at a person and we can track the positions of their head, torso and limbs in real time and feed it as an input to the AR experience. (Applause) Now, developers are going to do amazing things with ARKit 3, and that brings us to Minecraft. Minecraft is the best-selling game of all time and a great platform for creativity.
So to see how ARKit is enabling Minecraft to go to the next level, I'm happy to welcome Mojang's Lydia Winters and Saxs Persson to the stage. (Applause) LYDIA WINTERS: Thank you, Craig. Our incredible community inspires us to push boundaries and create unique experiences. We are here today to show you our new creation. SAXS PERSSON: We've been dreaming about a Minecraft in the real world and a Minecraft in Augmented Reality. We share a vision with Apple, how AR can uniquely connect us to the world, and today the technology is ready for that vision. We built something that we think is pretty special.
LYDIA WINTERS: We're excited to be able to demonstrate the game for the first time here on stage. (Applause) This is Minecraft Earth. PERSON SAXS: Let's start with the basics. This is a real, living, breathing Minecraft world, right on your table, with redstone circuits, fireworks, and running water. You can break anything, you can play with your mobs and when I look at Lydia, I can see what tool she has in her hand and I can see her name and we can see whatever she is building. LYDIA WINTERS: I'm going to participate in the construction. There I am.
SAXOS PERSON: Good. She looks like you. Let's use Motion Capture and make your character wave. Try a wave. Let's try the double wave trick. Cool. LYDIA WINTERS: This looks amazing on the table, but let's use the stage. Here we go. (Applause) Look, mom, I'm in Minecraft. SAXS PERSSON: You fit right in with the new people occlusion feature like you fit right into your Minecraft world. That only works on iOS. LYDIA WINTERS: It's like hide and seek. SAXS PERSSON: This is a fully interactive world even at this scale. LYDIA WINTERS: There are some interesting levers here. I'm going to press the one with the feathers.
PERSON SAXS: Very good. Be careful with the chickens. LYDIA WINTERS: Chickens. PERSON SAXS: I'm going to put some seeds in my hand. They should come running. LYDIA WINTERS: How nice. Hi Saxs, there's another lever here. It has TNT. I'm definitely going to do it. PERSON SAXS: Be careful. LYDIA WINTERS: I'm right on the edge. Skeletons. SAX PERSON: Very good, Lydia. Can I help you with the skeletons? LYDIA INVIERNOS: Thank you. PERSON SAXS: Uh oh, chicken, I'm sorry. LYDIA WINTERS: Oh, no. Just skeletons. PERSON SAXS: I'm trying. Alright. There is a huge cave below you that we can illuminate.
LYDIA WINTERS: It's hard to believe that there is nothing on the floor or around us on stage. It's incredibly immersive. The fun, whimsy and surprises of Minecraft are waiting to be discovered. Oh no, Saxs, a creeper. (Applause) It's always a creeper. Minecraft acquires its largest dimension yet: the Earth. Unleash your creativity, build with friends and turn the real world into your playground. SAXS PERSSON: Go to Minecraft dot net to learn more and sign up for a chance to play on iOS this summer. LYDIA WINTERS: We can't wait to see what you do in Minecraft Earth. Thank you all.
PERSON SAXS: Thank you. (Applause) CRAIG FEDERIGHI: Isn't that fantastic? Now, to be clear, no chickens were injured on the WWDC stage. I know it was very realistic, but that was an illusion. So, those are ARKit 3, RealityKit and Reality Composer. It's a great year for RA. It's also a huge year for Swift. (Applause) Now, platform programming language transitions only happen every 20 or 30 years. You know, C and Objective C, they were created in the '70s and '80s and Swift was released five years ago and it's amazing how strong it's become. There are over 450,000 apps on the App Store that use Swift and developers love it. (Applause) Yes.
Thank you all. But you know, a new language allows for new paradigms and, with it, new frameworks. Now, Objective C enabled AppKit and then UIKit, improving developer productivity by an order of magnitude and ultimately starting the app revolution. Now, when we introduced Swift, the first step was to make sure developers could access these great frameworks while taking advantage of the languages, speed, and expressiveness, but of course the biggest gains were yet to come. The real step in development would only come when we designed a new framework, built from the ground up to take advantage of everything Swift had to offer.
Today we announce that new framework. It's called SwiftUI. (Applause) SwiftUI is now built into Swift for Swift and provides a new paradigm. You specify the user interface with simple declarations. It makes the code really easy to write and understand. It's designed to help you build better apps with much less code. For example, let's take an application like this, a simple list. We've all written one of these. It turns out that if you want to write this with support for all modern features, you might end up writing something like this in UIKit. It's actually quite a bit of code.
The same thing happens here in SwiftUI. That's all. (Applause) Just a few lines of Swift code. Yes. Now, there are many things that SwiftUI offers you. It allows you to focus on the functionality of your apps and we automatically do new things for you, like when we add Dark Mode, your app gets it automatically. And of course, the framework is only part of the story because in XCode there is a new interactive development experience. You can think of it as Playgrounds turned up to eleven and built for apps. Now, to show you SwiftUI in action, I'd like to invite Josh Shaffer, the lead of our iOS UI Frameworks team, on stage to give you a live demo.
José. (Applause) JOSH SHAFFER: Very good. Thanks, Craig. Let me show you how easy it is to start using SwiftUI. On the canvas on the right, you can see my simple Hello World app. And I can select the text on the canvas and when I do, XCode highlights the code in the editor on the left. See what happens when I edit it. The preview updates immediately. (Applause) Now, to get started, let's open our views library. We can see options and drag one out and drop another directly on the canvas. As soon as I do that, the code is added to the editor on the left.
With a simple drag and drop, we can create real code instantly, and the built-in inspectors allow us to adjust the layout of our views exactly as you would in an app like Keynote. Inspectors are designed for each type of view so you can see the type of options you have and choose exactly the one you want. And I can also use the exact same tools to edit the code directly. So, with just one step, we can take this view we've been creating and turn it into a scrollable list of views. Now, a list requires content. (Applause) Thank you.
It's really amazing. Well. So a list requires content and for that we can bring in a model object that I created earlier and start connecting it to our views. For the first public app written with SwiftUI, we thought it would be fun to help our product marketing friends choose the perfect name for the next version of MacOS. Here we have a list of themes, but we need a place to display the version name. For that, we can drag a custom component that we created earlier and drop it on top. Now, even with this small amount of code, SwiftUI already provides default support for really common features like right-to-left language localization and, of course, the new dark mode in iOS 13. (Applause) Very good.
Now, let's make this interactive so that when we select a row in the table, we display a name for the topic. Now we are ready to test it and with just one click, we can go from designing our application to interacting with it, right in XCode. Now, testing within XCode is awesome, but I also want to test it on a device, so with just one more click we can now install it on our phone and be ready to test it there. So let's try farms or maybe food. That's great, but what's really awesome about this is that we can start editing it live right on the device.
So, SwiftUI includes built-in support for animated transitions. So let's look at some options and choose a good one for the top. Now, this time, when we choose a name, it will animate. So let's say deserts or maybe beaches. That's better, but we all know that product marketing chooses these names at random, so to get an idea that matches that reality, let's wrap our banner in a custom random component that I built earlier to help us choose a name and now we're ready to choose the next name for macOS. That's not cool. Let's try one more. Cute animals seem promising.
Well, that's perfect. Alright. So, because SwiftUI includes built-in support for integration with other Apple frameworks, I thought it would be fun to use the new RealityKit framework to imagine the release of MacOS 10, Flying Squirrel. It looks like it's going to be amazing. This is a quick look at creating UIs with SwiftUI and XCode previews. You're going to love it. (Applause) CRAIG FEDERIGHI: What do you think? (Applause) Now, I'm sure many of you are very excited to adopt SwiftUI in your apps and the good news is that you can do it from a single view to an entire app.
And this isn't just for creating iOS apps. For the first time, we now also have a native framework for building Watch apps. (Applause) But not only that. SwiftUI is available on all of our platforms and provides bindings to all native controls so you can customize your experiences specifically for each one, all while using a common API. It is incredibly powerful. These are just some of the big news for developers this morning. I want to thank you all for spending time with me. You're so amazing. I'll give it back to Tim. Thank you. (Applause) TIM COOK: Thanks, Craig.
What an incredible morning. You enjoyed it? (Applause) Yes. Today, today we advanced all of our software platforms, giving customers new ways to enrich their lives and powerful tools for developers so they can continue to change the world. All platforms will be available today in beta. (Applause) And the public seed for macOS, iOS, and iPad iOS will be available in July, and of course all of this great software will be available to our users in the fall. (Applause) You'll also now get an early look at the new MacPro and Pro Display XDR in our Pro Studio atother side of the street.
I encourage you to do that. We have a big week planned for you, with over a hundred sessions, over two hundred hands-on labs, and over a thousand Apple engineers who are here to help you. So, look for them. We can't wait to see what they will dream of and how they will continue to change the world. Now, before I close this morning, I would like to thank everyone who worked so hard at Apple on all of the products you saw this morning. These guys have given up their nights and weekends away from their families and so on, and many of these innovations have been years in the making.
So thanks. Let's give them a round of applause. (Applause) Yes. Thank you all for coming and sharing time with us. Have a good week. Thank you. (Applause) (Music playing)
