IKEA HEMNES SHOE CABINET HACK I SHOE STORAGE IDEAS I ENTRYWAY MAKEOVER (PT.1)

Mar 23, 2024
You know what I hate when I come home and there is a sea of

shoe

s all over the entrance. You're watching DIY by Nikki Foster. So, in general, this is what my hallway usually looks like. We need a major

shoe

organization, so this is a great trick. for a small space and I would also consider it renter friendly because you can uninstall it as well. This will probably be a two part video because I want to show you my process and how I do what I do for the The first part will be the trick of having a shoe rack, um, which I'll show you guys, and then the second part, which I'll explain with more detail in the other video, um, how I'm actually going to do it. transforming the entire hallway area, oh, so with the Hemney shoe rack I wanted to make two next to each other, but if you could see here in this picture, there's a gap in the middle if you put it together exactly how it's supposed to be. and I didn't want that space in the middle.

I wanted it to look like a unit and a little more personalized, so that's what I'll show you. I looked online and tried to find something like that. different ways to do it and I didn't really find detailed information on how to do what I'm going to show you how to do it, basically that's why I created this video and, yeah, that's it, so let's get into the video, as you can see, this It's basically what the hallway looks like when you walk in, we have like a sea of shoes, you know, this is like my shoes and the kid's shoes and then here are all dad's shoes, so his shoes are pretty big, I hope the Most of them can fit in the IKEA shoe rack and here's just another quick look at what the hallway area looks like so this part can be self explanatory but I'll still tell you how to do it, first I take everything out of the box from Ikea and that's mainly so I can have more space to work, as I mentioned before.

More Interesting Facts About,

ikea hemnes shoe cabinet hack i shoe storage ideas i entryway makeover pt 1...

This is a small hallway update, so having as much space as possible is invaluable to me after it's all done. Take the box and put it in my garage. Well, it's all done. I just take that bag of screws I showed you earlier and sort everything into piles. This makes it very easy for me to find the screw I'm looking for. Instead of digging through the bag every time, as I mentioned before, these are two

cabinet

s, but you have to install them individually. The first one I'm making, I'm putting it together exactly the way the Ikea Hemi instructions say the only thing.

What I'm not going to do is not put the top on and I'll show you why later in the video, let's do a time lapse and watch me put together this

ikea

hemnes

shoe rack, so as I mentioned before, this is a small hallway, so that I have to move my current table out of the way to make room and then I'm just moving the first Hemnes

cabinet

against the wall and that's mainly for placement. I'll show you what I mean in the next one. a few steps, so this is Heming's second shoe rack, um, and I'm basically doing what I did with the first one, which is basically like laying everything out and, um, then I'm going to figure out which leg I'm not going to put on. put it, you know, so it looks like one shoe rack instead of two separate shoe racks, so yeah, that's what I'm going to do, so I have half the leg together, so I'm just doing one side and I found out that it was kind of easy to follow from step seven, so the side that looks like seven just follow it so I can follow it to the end and not get confused, so now I'm going to move on, it's not.

This one is fine, so again to reiterate, I assembled the shoe rack the same way I did the first one, but I just didn't attach a leg or the top. I basically assembled the cabinet like it's supposed to be, except not. without this leg, but I still need that part of the back to still look finished, so I'm going to use this leg just as a placeholder, I'm not going to screw it on or anything, I'm just using it. to seize while I'm going to put this one up okay so before we continue I just want to point out that this is what the Hemnes Cap Shoe Booth looks like when it's fully assembled this is the actual way to put it together except normally you would have the part top, but since I'm trying to match it up where it looks like it's just one leg and not two cabinets next to each other, I'm going to do this trick, so I'm going to use a little bit of glue. the top and then some clamps to basically keep it attached.
I use Gorilla wood glue and then I added it to the side of the cabinet and also to the side where the wood was exposed and here are the clamps that I use and this is the part where all the magic happens, I just take the cabinet and place it right against the first cabinet and the part where the exposed wood was shown fits right into the back of the other cabinet so now it looks like they share a leg and then I just took the Clamps and held it tight so I added the glue and then now it's I fastened it with this and then I also added a clamp to the bottom to hold everything together, to apologize for keeping everything together.
Hey guys, what's up today? It's the second day of my Ikea cabinet, so I let the wood glue dry on the top and bottom overnight, but this morning I noticed that these two pieces are like there's a gap between them, so I'm going to put a little. stick there too and then just use some masking tape to uh I guess it will keep the cabinet tight and close to each other I think that makes sense anyway let me clean up I'll show you what I'm going to put on so I use Same wood glue and I squeezed a little bit of glue into the space where it was still loose and then used masking tape to try to secure it so it could dry in place, so now I'm just going to move this around and make sure it's centered.
I waited for the cabinet to be assembled as a single unit to verify that it was centered with the mirror I already had on the wall. They are going to drill this so I wanted to make sure it was right the first time. Remember when I showed you that I glued part of the cabinet together to make it look like it was going to be more secure? Well it didn't work, I thought it was going to be a quick fix, I thought it was going to do it, actually I thought it was going to work and it didn't work, but I have the real solution that is going to work.
I have to admit I was being a little lazy and didn't feel like getting the drill out, but this method is really effective and it's going to work, so I'm going to show you exactly how I'm going to do it. In fact, I have to remove this part here to make what I was talking about, that part. It sucks but it is what it is, I mean it's like a little cross-eyed squirrel that comes out right so now it's off so for this trick to work you have to use the extra leg that actually came with the second handmade one . cabinet take the frog tape and line it up and then you can take a pencil and then just make the holes in the exact space then take the same piece of frog tape with the holes and line it up with the leg this is basically used as a jig so you can screw the holes when the time comes, don't screw, drill the holes when the time comes, okay, so look, I've got the frog tape and it's lined up with the leg, the inner leg that's already installed and look where what are the holes?
I'm just going to take a pencil and mark exactly where I'm going to drill the holes and the sizes. I'm going to double check the size of my holes and I'm using something called a hobby drill gauge. It looks like this and I will have it in the description box below. I bought it on Amazon so if you're looking for it you can buy it there so now I'm going to check my sizes. Always nervous because I like to drill too big a hole so I bought this just to double check so like this little guy I know it's a 1 16 drill because I don't just look at it you know I've already messed up with the glue, I don't.
I want to mess it up again, so I'm using the caliper to quickly make some marks on the tape so I know exactly what size to drill. You need this type of drill, these type of drill bits to drill the holes in the side. of the cabinet, they come in different sizes. I was able to attach these guys with the drill, with the drill gauge to make it easier for me, so the other thing I did with the drill bit was put on some masking tape. Put some frog tape on the bottom, so I'm not going too deep into the hole, so yeah, okay, let's see what happens.
Well it was the first hole I drilled and this goes here and it fits pretty well, not too deep so I'll do the rest, okay here's a look at my process. Since I had already built it and everything, I ended up removing the left leg, which was nice. easy so basically I can leave the cabinet intact so now I'm going to finish putting everything like the bottom leg and the top leg back on and then I'm going to put the left leg on so I can finish this project and make the cabinet really look great Now all this has a professional look, it looks like a real trick.
Well, I mean you know it was a real trick anyway, but you know what I'm saying. This isn't moving anymore, it's safe, so I'm excited. I'm going to put the drawers in and do the top and then everything will be ready, so okay, let's get started. I've seen some other tricks done where they replaced the top and put in just like a full piece of wood or a different color of wood or something like that. I'm not actually going to do that because I might be redoing my floors in this hallway or lobby area and um um, so I might be redoing my floors. in this hallway area and I'm not sure what color I want to use so I didn't want to get a piece of wood and not complement the floor you know what I mean so I'm actually just going to use white , anyway I like how white looks because I can change my decor and everything for different seasons and stuff.
This is an extra super sticky tape and it's supposed to be super durable, as I've read some reviews on Amazon and people were like hanging their TVs with this stuff, so I'm going to try this in case I decide to change it later in the top obviously the recording is self explanatory but I wanted to show that. I had to cut it a little. I used the excess that I cut off to adhere to the back of the table and it helped me see how much product I used, so I just want to show you real quick, this is what I'm doing for the top, I'm just putting it right against the edge where the other one is and then I put the other top right against these edges so I ended up putting the first top to one side and then going and then coming back and adding masking tape to the other side. um I felt like it was a little bit easier for me to do that so I could see the location of everything and, yeah, and here's a quick look at what the hallway looked like. like before there were so many shoes all over the

entryway

and it basically made everything look very messy when you first walked into the house and this is what it looks like the hallway is now super clean there are no shoes in the foyer area anymore everything It's in These Hemnes Shoe Racks that I cut up to make it look like a lot of shoes fit in there.
I haven't actually counted how many, but everything that was basically in the hallway fits except the boots, and because it's so narrow, the hallway seems to have a lot more space, which I love. As you can see, the cabinet was pretty easy to put together. It only took about 45 minutes to put together the first and second one because of my little test. and mistake, it took a little longer, but it's still pretty easy if you just follow that second method, like screwing everything together. I also want to point out that the shoe rack holds two women's size shoes, okay, not the shoes in it. about two women's sneakers, I'm like seven and a half years old, so it fits two of my kids sneakers, it can fit three to four pairs of sneakers very easily and adult men's sneakers, About two pairs, so they fit a little tight. um if you wear a certain style of shoes then um that's it oh and also for me I have one where I just put sandals on and I can like as many sandals as I can fit right now it's only three or four pairs of sandals. there, but I'm pretty sure it could fit more and yeah, that's it for this video.
I hope it was helpful to you guys, you know, and if it was, make sure to give this video a thumbs up because it helps me too. uh be sure to subscribe because I'm going to do part two of this for your little hallway update. um yeah and I hope it's like a major transformation for you guys that you guys will like so yeah that's it see you next time peace no don. I'm not saying that, what else was I going to say? I kept forgetting oh man what happened with the battery dagger no no scratch so I had to take a break get my kids out of the school building hey people remember me I guess that's it all.
