Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra vs iPhone 15 Pro Max - Which is the Flagship KING?

Apr 19, 2024
- The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is here. It is the best we have from Samsung. How does it compare to Apple's best, the iPhone 15 Pro Max? Well, let's put these SuperSafStyles face to face and find out. Initially, loo

at the construction and design, both use titanium. The iPhone 15 Pro Max introduced titanium a few months ago when it was launched, and Samsung now has the titanium frame as well. Now the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the smallest device overall. It also weighs a few grams less. And we have these curved edges compared to these flatter, sharper edges on the S24 Ultra.

And for those reasons, I would say that the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the most comfortable device to use overall. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is available in four colors: Black Titanium, White Titanium, Blue Titanium, and Natural Titanium. Yes, they call each of the colors titanium. And guess what? Samsung also calls all colors titanium, but they changed it. That's why they are called Titanium Gray, Titanium Black, Titanium Violet and Titanium Yellow. So they switched to having titanium at the front instead of at the end. But anyway, there are three additional colors available of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra,

which

are available exclusively on

They are titanium blue, orange and green. Now, if you are interested in purchasing the S24 Ultra in these colors, you can use my exclusive affiliate link in the description below. That will give you double the storage and up to $150 in credit. You're going to want to check it out. Both devices have an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. However, you can submerge the iPhone 15 Pro Max deeper into water compared to the S24 Ultra. I'm not sure how important that will be to you. Now with the design of the devices, I would say they are both incremental.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max has had a similar design for the past few years. And with the S24 Ultra, I mean, it looks a lot like the S23 Ultra,

which

in turn looked a lot like the S22 Ultra. Even so, I think both devices look very good. And I like the matte finish we have on both devices, including the frames. Previous generations had shiny frames, which I personally wasn't a big fan of. Now let's turn these devices over and take a look at the screens. So the first thing to note is that the S24 Ultra now has a flat screen.
samsung galaxy s24 ultra vs iphone 15 pro max which is the flagship king
Previous generations had some curves on the sides. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has always had a flat screen. Now this will depend on your personal preferences. I think curved screens look better, but flat screens are more practical and easier to apply screen protectors. We have Ceramic Shields on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. We have Gorilla Armor on the S24 Ultra. Gorilla Armor is now exclusive to the S24 Ultra. It is supposed to reduce glare by about 75%. It is four times more scratch resistant compared to the previous generation and also uses 25% recycled materials. Apple's claim of Ceramic Shield is harder than any smartphone glass.
Now, I'm not one to abandon testing, so I'm not going to abandon it. I'm sure there will be many others. But in my experience, both are very premium and also very durable. I can notice that the S24 Ultra is less reflective compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. These exhibits are absolutely beautiful. They are some of the best screens you will find out there. We have a slightly larger screen on the S24 Ultra. They both use AMOLED technology and both have a refresh rate of up to 120 hertz, which makes things very smooth, but they can also go down to one hertz, ma

king

them more efficient.
The S24 Ultra gets some advantages for its screen. Firstly, it has a slightly high resolution, meaning things will be a little sharper, and it also has a higher maximum brightness of 2,600 nits versus the iPhone 15 Pro Max's 2,000 nits. So the iPhone 15 Pro Max is already very bright, but the S24 Ultra is simply brighter and will help in outdoor situations, especially if you wear sunglasses like me. They both have always-on displays, and you can also have the wallpaper activated on both always-on displays. I personally don't like having this on because it distracts me. And the S24 Ultra has a higher screen-to-body ratio because we only have a very small punch-hole.
This is smaller compared to what we had in the previous generation. In the iPhone 15 Pro Max we have that dynamic island, which takes up more space. Now there's a reason for that dynamic island. We have sensors for Face ID. Face ID works very well. It is really fast, effective and secure. With the S24 Ultra, although you can use face unlock, it is not as secure as Face ID, but it does have the second-generation Qualcomm 3D Sonic fingerprint sensor. Now this is pretty much the same as we've had in the previous two generations, but it's one of the best fingerprint scanners out there.
I find it very fast and convenient. Now, whether you prefer Face ID or a fingerprint scanner will depend on the way you use your phone. Personally, I prefer a fingerprint scanner. I just find it more convenient. Still, with Face ID, if I'm in bed and I just want to take a look at my phone and my face is on the pillow, it won't unlock, and I have to get out, and it's very annoying when I have to do that. So I prefer a fingerprint scanner, but again, there's nothing really wrong with Face ID. Good. Now let's talk about the cameras. - Hey. - I have this.
I have this. - That seems fine to me. -So Side Saf was just going to remind you that if you're enjoying this video so far and want to see more like it, then he considers subscribing and hitting the bell icon so you don't miss future coverage like this. Now for the cameras, I have done a detailed SuperSafStyle camera comparison between these two. It's about 20 minutes long and I've covered all the different aspects. I'll link that video in the description. You can go ahead and check it out after this video. But to give you a summary, they both have excellent cameras, some of the best cameras you will find on any smartphone.
Both have a 12-megapixel selfie camera and both take great selfies. And for the rear camera, the iPhone 15 Pro Max has three rear cameras, an

ultra

-wide angle, a main and a five-times telephoto lens. The S24 Ultra has four rear cameras, an

ultra

-wide angle, a primary, a three times telephoto and a five times periscope zoom camera. Now, in my testing, both are really good in all situations. I would say that the iPhone 15 Pro Max has better dynamic range overall. It's also better in low light and has better overall video too, especially when it comes to things like cinematic mode.
The S24 Ultra, however, has that dedicated triple telephoto camera. So for zoom ranges between 3 and 4.9, they will be better on the S24 Ultra. On top of that, you have a better extended zoom on the S24 Ultra, and that's because Samsung has been doing extended zoom for a long time. And it actually has excellent video, some of the best video on any Android smartphone I've tested, with the ability to record 8K and 4K video at up to 120 frames per second. You don't have these two things on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The S24 Ultra also has many AI features for photo editing.
So you can remove reflections, shadows, select subjects, move them, resize them and, my favorite, the ability to straighten an image without having to crop it. In fact, you can fill in the outer spaces so that you're not really losing any of your image, and this actually works very well. Once again, check out my SuperSafStyle camera comparison, which took me a long time to make. You won't want to miss it. And yes, the S24 just came out, so there will no doubt be more software updates that will improve the cameras, and we will cover these updates in my full review.
Good. Now performance. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is powered by the A17 Pro. It is a three-nanometer chipset. The S24 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. It has a higher clock speed compared to other Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and is a four-nanometer chipset. Now, in terms of performance, the iPhone 15 Pro Max scores higher in the benchmark tests. But in everyday performance, these are honestly some of the fastest and smoothest devices out there. Whatever you throw at them, they work absolutely fine. They are also great to play with. I'm not a big gamer, but my friend Thunder E from BooredAtWork is, and he's done a lot of playtesting on both devices.
I'll link those videos in the description below if you're interested. Now with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, one of the new things we have is the ability to play console-level games right on your smartphone. I tried "Resident Evil Village" and it works very well. But I'm still waiting for other titles. I'm still looking forward to "Assassin's Creed Mirage", which has been quite a few months now. But this might be something that appeals to you if you're a gamer. We now have more RAM on the S24 Ultra compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. But because we run different operating systems, they manage RAM differently.
That said, in my experience I've found that I can leave things running in the background more often on the S24 Ultra compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The 15 Pro Max is very aggressive. I mean, before, even if you tried to upload a story on Instagram, if you just went to another app, it wouldn't finish loading in the background. Now he does it. But if you're uploading something like a reel, it will literally tell you to keep the app open to finish uploading, and I find that quite frustrating. Whereas on the S24 Ultra, I can leave something uploading, go ahead and do something else, and it will finish loading in the background.
Now for the software. Of course, we have iOS versus Android. The iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with iOS 17.2.1 currently at the moment of this video. The S24 Ultra will come with Android 14 and One UI 6.1 on top. One new thing to note with the S24 Ultra is the fact that Samsung is now promising seven generations of Android OS updates. This is super impressive. It aligns it with Pixel devices. Now, whether or not they're going to deliver on the promise of those updates, we'll have to wait and see. But Apple has been known to support the iPhone 15 Pro Max for a long time.
Normally it is about five years. It may be longer with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but I don't have a set time for it. Now, I'm not going to get into a full battle between Android and iOS, but there are certain things I like to mention based on my personal usage. I prefer the general customization you have on Android. You can see here that I have multiple icons, I have five columns, whereas you can only have four on the iPhone. I also have the icons at the bottom, which are easy to access. With the iPhone, I can't do that unless I spam widgets to the top of my screen.
I also really like the app icons that appear in the notification bar, so I can take a quick look at what's available. When I use my iPhone, I don't like having those interruptions, so it would be nice if there was something like that too. But with the iPhone, things are always more optimized. Now, Samsung has worked with Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok to optimize cameras for use within those apps, but the apps are generally always more optimized on iPhone compared to Android. I can give you some examples. TikTok, we still don't have dark mode on Android. We've had it for years on the iPhone.
Right now, if I try to post an Instagram story on my S24 Ultra and I want to use hashtags, I can usually only use one. If I try to do other things, they just won't work. While I have never had this problem on the iPhone. And YouTube actually gets a lot of updates on iPhone first before Android, and YouTube is a Google app, and Google makes Android, but that shows how easy it is to get some updates on iOS compared to Android. Now, one thing I've loved about the iPhone over the last few years is the airdrop.
We've shared quickly and closely, but things were pretty disjointed and not completely consistent across Android. In fact, I even made a meme about this. (Saf speaks foreign language) (dramatic music) The good news is that quick sharing will now be the new standard on all Android devices and Windows PCs, so it should align with airdrop. It will take some time to roll out to all other devices, but I'm definitely looking forward to this. Now the S24 Ultra has some new AI features, which are some of the key selling points of the device, so we have to touch on them.
The first is live translation. Imagine you are on vacation abroad and want to reserve a table at a restaurant. You don't speak the local language. Well, the S24 Ultra will be able to help with that. You'll be able to take what you're saying, translate it to the person on the other end, and then when they respond, will translate it to you. Now it's not instantaneous, there's obviously a slight pause, but the person on the other end will be told that this is being translated, so that should help. And right now we have support for 13 languages. I have tried this.
It's pretty impressive. The only other languages I can speak are Hindi and Urdu. And when I was speaking in Hindi, the voice that you have here currently is just a female voice. So I was talking and I was talking like a woman, which was pretty funny. Now I am sure that we will have more voices and more support in the future. We also have the interpreter function, which works very well. You can see it here. Hello, my name is Saf and I have a YouTube channel called SuperSafTV. (the phone speaks a foreign language) (Saf speaks a foreign language) - I will watch your YouTube channel and like the video. - There is chat assistance, which can adjust the tone of your conversation.
You can make your conversation sound a little more formal, a little more friendly. The navigation assistance is quite useful. You can summarize web pages and highlight key areas. And I think my favorite AI feature so far is the search circle. So you can tap and hold the home button or the navigation bar, then you can circle whatever's on your screen and it'll go ahead and find it for you. Now I tried this with our traditional Apple event image. And as he circled the trainers, he discovered that they were the MKBHD Atoms 251. Now, I was very impressed with this because those trainers are very small in that image, and I was still able to find them.
Now, one thing to note is that Samsung has said in fine print that these Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025. So, there may be a monthly charge after that. And right now, we have no idea how much that could be. Now let's talk about some of the additional features we have on both devices. So with the S24 Ultra, of course, we have the S Pen. Now I don't use this all the time. But when I need it, it's amazing to have, whether it's just to take some quick notes, which can now be corrected using AI, editing some images, or even signing a document.
It also has Bluetooth, so you can use it as a clicker or shutter button trigger as a camera. This is something I have used quite a few times. Set up the camera and then use it to take the photo. And while the S Pen hasn't changed much in recent years, it's still very, very useful. The iPhone 15 Pro Max also has some unique features. It has a LiDAR scanner, which can measure depth information. This is really useful if you want to use AR. And now we have the action button. This is a customizable button that we have at the top of the device.
And you can really customize this. You can make it open any shortcut. You can make it open an application. You can also use it to open a particular instance within an application. So for example, every time you use the camera, if you always record videos, you can have it open the video as soon as you press it. With the S24 Ultra, you can double-press the power button to launch the camera and you can also customize it to open a particular app, but you don't have the level of customization that you do on the action button. Now I'm going to be honest with you, I don't really use the action button on the iPhone 15 Pro Max because it's the top button on the device.
It's not very practical. I would have preferred it to be somewhere around here, so I could also use it as a camera shutter button. The S24 Ultra now has Wi-Fi 7, so if you have a compatible router you'll be able to get very fast speeds. The S24 Ultra also supports DeX, so you can connect it wirelessly to a TV and get a desktop experience. You can also connect a mouse and keyboard to it, and this will be very useful if you are someone who travels a lot. Now looking at the speakers, we have stereo speakers on both devices, one on the earpiece and one on the bottom.
They both sound absolutely great to me. I'm not an audiophile, so I asked my friend Thunder E from BooredAtWork for advice. And he, again, told him that this time things are very even. We previously found that the iPhone was richer compared to the S23 Ultra, but Samsung has improved the S24 ultra's speakers. Now, one new thing we had on the iPhone this year is USB-C. It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here. The S24 Ultra also has USB-C, so you can charge both devices with the same cable. Speaking of cables, the iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with a very nice braided cable out of the box.
The S24 Ultra still comes with a very standard USB-C cable. Now for the SIM cards. The S24 Ultra has two physical SIM card slots in some regions and we also support an eSIM. With the iPhone 15 Pro Max, here in the UK, you have a physical SIM card and an eSIM. But in the United States there is no SIM tray and I know that is frustrating for many people. Now for the batteries. We have a larger physical battery in the S24 Ultra. But it's not just about the size of the battery, it's also about how you use it.
That sounds a little dubious. We use different operating systems, so they manage batteries differently. And in my experience, they both have excellent battery life. I think they are very, very similar. Now I'm sure there will be plenty of battery consumption tests that will tell you exactly how many minutes one is better than the other. I don't really find them too accurate because many of them use devices that they have been using for the past few months. Obviously the battery won't be as good. If you want to keep an eye out for a battery test, I recommend checking out the phone bus tests, which will be available soon.
However, let's get back to the point. For me, I would say the battery life is very even. Both have excellent battery life, but the S24 Ultra has faster wired charging. You get up to 45 watts, while you only get 20 watts on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. That will give you about 50% in 35 minutes on the iPhone. On the S24 Ultra, if you get a 45 watt charger, it will give you around 50% in 20 minutes. Neither of these come with a charger included from the factory. The S24 Ultra also supports 15 watts of key wireless charging. You get 7.5 watts on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
However, if you use a MagSafe wireless charger, you can get up to 15 watts. MagSafe is really great, it just fits and works. Many accessories are also supported. The S24 Ultra also supports wireless power sharing, so it's reverse wireless charging. You can charge some headphones on the back of the S24 Ultra if you want. With the iPhone 15 Pro Max, you can connect a USB cable to another device so you can charge it, but you can't do it wirelessly. Good. Prices and availability. These devices are therefore available in three different storage variants, 256,512 gigabytes, as well as a massive one terabyte version.
In the UK, the 512 gigabyte and one terabyte versions of the iPhone 15 Pro Max and S24 Ultra are priced the same. The 256 version is priced £50 more. In the US, however, the price of the S24 Ultra has increased, so each version will be a little more expensive compared to the iPhone. Now, this varies quite a bit depending on the storage version you choose. For the 256 gigabyte version, you'll pay $100 more compared to the iPhone. But for the 512 gigabyte version, you'll only pay $20 more compared to the iPhone. However, as mentioned above, Samsung has really good pre-order deals for the S24 Ultra.
Currently you can get double the storage and you can get up to $150 of instant Samsung credit using my exclusive affiliate link in the description below. Now, considering this, you will pay less for the S24 Ultra compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. With Apple, I don't really see any deals for their iPhones and the price remains the same until the next iPhone comes out. Now I'm not sure how long these pre-order deals will last, so you might want to grab them soon if you're interested in purchasing the S24 Ultra. But even if you buy it in about six months, the price would probably have gone down.
So, considering all this, you will get a better deal on the S24 Ultra compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. And that's SuperSafStyle's detailed comparison of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I think they are both great

flagship

smartphones. They will be my two daily drivers in the future. Obviously both have advantages and disadvantages. With the iPhone 15 Pro Max, you have a consistent experience, you have incredible cameras and an excellent screen. In my opinion, with the S24 Ultra, you have a better overall display. You've got the S Pen, you've got all those new AI features, and you still have really good cameras.
But it may fundamentally come down to which operating system is right for you. You may not be willing to switch and in that case, I can easily recommend any of these smartphones. That's what I think anyway. What do you think? Leave me a comment below. Let me know what you think. If you want to see the comparison of the SuperSafStyle camera, I will link it here. If maybe you're not interested in the S24 Ultra, you want to look at the S24 or S24 Plus, I've covered those devices here as well.
