Exploring the 5 Acre Pond in a Glass Bottom Kayak! (Glow Lights)

Apr 07, 2024
Friends at home, welcome back to Crimson Oak Pond and if you're new to this series, we built this five

acre

pond

over the last year and it took us several months to dig up all the dirt and we had to bring in several trucks. of clay and we also built an island, a dock and got the whole structure in place and then it took us a couple of months to fill it with water, then we stocked it with a lot of bait fish including bluegills and threadfin shad, and not long after that we stocked it with these aggressive little two inch basses and we'll give you an update on them here in just a minute and show you how big they've gotten and before we get started today I need to address a lot of questions and concerns that everyone they had in our previous video and in case you missed it, we added a bait tank here on the dock and stocked it with a bunch of bait and one type of fish we added in there was a goldfish. and we had dozens of comments saying not to put the goldfish in the

pond

and how much negative effect they could have and those were all valid points, but I don't think I did a good job explaining my purpose to them last time. week, so the goal of this bait tank is to allow us to start hand feeding our fish every day and get them to come closer to the dock and be friendlier to us, so my original intention was to feed goldfish to the bass and there would be a very small chance that many of them would escape and have enough numbers to repopulate, but once I received the shipment of goldfish I realized that they were too big to feed the bass, so I I didn't put any of them in the pond.

Except for the little one that jumped out of the bait tank and slipped through the cracks, so there is one known goldfish in the pond, but the rest are still here in this bait tank, so you guys don't have to worry about them. They do some damage to the pond, our plans now are to give them away to people as pets, but either way I appreciate all the comments and thanks for looking out for the best interest of our pond and checking it out, one of the whistling ducks. flying over so a quick update on the pond while we're here at the dock and if you look at the shore you can see how much the water has dropped and I've been keeping the pond a little bit low on purpose because unfortunately this is a hurricane. season during September and October and I still have the fear that if a hurricane comes and dumps a lot of rain it could really mess up the pond so I let it go down and almost too low so I think we're going to open the well and let it come up a little bit.

More Interesting Facts About,

Okay, we just opened the well. Look, it's pretty incredible how much the PVC pipe has curved, it almost forms an S that it's going to start pumping. about 100 gallons per minute in the pond and I'm happy to say we haven't had to use the well in about four months and that's even better than I expected during the hottest part of the year because during May, June, July and August We had a lot of rain and we have 10

acre

s of watershed for every acre of pond, so we've had enough to keep it full. I'm excited to finally give you a sneak peek at a project we've been working on.

Over the past few months, you know, we've spared no expense when it comes to wildlife here on the farm and the goal was simple and that was to build the ultimate duck houseboat for our new duck family, but I want to give a big shout out. I told one of my coworkers, Nathan, who is the brains behind this whole project, and we went above and beyond: it's decked out with solar panels, a jacuzzi, an indoor aquarium, a pump house that keeps the water fresh. flowing out of the pond, a wide variety of electronics and sensors underwater LED

lights

a landing platform and last but not least a duck shower and you will see the complete build and its first day on the pond in our next video and believe me, friends, you don't want to do it.

I miss this one, now it's time to feed our two smallest pets, the tiger and the copper, and the tiger is a tiger bass and the copper is a coppernose bluegill, and we catch them both out of the pond and the we have been feeding a combination of golden shiners. from the bait tank and protein pellets from the fish feeders and just like Moby the tiger he is very aggressive and no matter how much bait you put in there he can never have enough, look at that thick belly, he's starting to grow, right? OK? I had a package delivered here at the farm, it's our

glass

bottom

kayak

.
Well, it's actually made of the same thing airplane windows are made of, so it's not actually

glass

. The next thing I'm going to do is install the LED

lights

. on the

kayak

and this particular model is made to go above or below the water, but this kayak is perfect for them because it has this little rivet and both LEDs will slide down on each of them, so we'll keep inside the kayak and this is a waterproof battery pack and that makes it nice the whole system is waterproof so you can use it even here in the rain and this is our little on off switch that will allow you alternating between all the different colors and the color we're going to use tonight is green because it matches all of our underwater lights.
Okay, the people around you have the LEDs on. They seem to be nice and shiny. I'm going to get out of here around some of these. other LEDs and basically we just cruise around the shallow ends of the pond and see if we can see some fish down there that might come out to the deeper ends. I'm not quite sure how bright this will shine, but we'll find out here. in just a minute, okay, I set up both GoPros. You'll have to excuse the cowboy boots that were here on the farm all day, but I'll go ahead and tell you that this is going to be amazing.
I have already seen some small minnows swimming there, they are attracted to the light as are all the shiners. I am very excited about this little adventure, we go and there is one of the big trunks of the old oak tree. Wow, look what you've got. all those little ducklings that hatched here on Crimson Oak Pond flying around in a V shape. I love watching them, so one of the things I'm going to do is just paddle out to all the brush piles that I know have a There was a lot of bait and bass, so we'll see if there's any activity there, so once it got completely dark and everything calmed down, all the fish started coming out, there were bass and bluegills swimming around me.
There were times where I felt like I could literally reach out and touch them, if it had been a tiger I would have bitten it and man I'm glad I brought some mosquito repellent because it's a magnet for bugs. Now we get to visit one of my favorite places in the entire pond. that's the oak throne this looks like something out of a horror movie look at all those roots sticking out so the whole night was great. I learned a lot because I went around some of these brush piles and there wasn't a lot of bait there and others would load up on it and you know, wherever the bait fish are, that's where the bass will be.
I could also hear the owls hooting here tonight, the deer didn't know what to think of me, but that has been the coolest part of this adventure, being able to sit here in the water next to all the fish we are raising in the pond and I figure the only thing that could overcome this is to put on some scuba gear and go underwater. with them so maybe we'll have to try it here in the future guys I can't tell you how many mosquitoes there are here flying around me right now, if you're not okay with dozens of mosquitoes at a time then this night kayak can may not be for you, we'll definitely be wearing long pants and long sleeves next time we go out, but overall it's a really fun experience and I'm sure we'll do that in some future videos so if you followed our Pawn. construction series, you know Eco flow is one of our biggest supporters and we are currently powering the Crimson cabin with a Delta Pro series that has the solar panel attached and allows us to convert sunlight into usable energy and when the sun is not shining we can they use their dual generator that can run on gasoline or propane, but they just released a new product called the Delta II and the first thing I noticed is that compared to the older models, it's much lighter, more compact, and one.
Also, at the last minute I decided to pack the Eco Flow battery here because I have this AC outlet and I can basically charge those LED lights here at the lake, so if we go out and we're having a good time, I won't have to go back in and charge them , but I can literally think of dozens of uses for this on the farm, you can power TVs, pumps, grills, appliances, heaters in a draft house and it can provide up to 1800 watts of AC output and only takes 80 minutes to fully charge and It also comes with an app that you can use to monitor and also see how much battery power you have left, so friends, do me a favor and go check out the Delta II I.
I'll put a link in the video description below, so finally We managed to establish a nice grass on the pond dam and it's time to mow it, so I had a guy come by who has an RC lawn mower, that's it folks, it's a remote control. lawnmower and I have to say it's one of the coolest things I've ever seen - they just stand somewhere near it and use a remote control to drive it like they're playing a video game, so some of You guys may be thinking why would you need that and if you ever have to cut a pond dam that has a very steep slope then you will understand the need to do it because there are many injuries every year when people flip tractors and lawn mowers.
Some cases even go off on the water side of the pond, so having an unmanned lawnmower really has its advantages and eliminates almost all the safety issues, but I was very impressed with how well it handled the slopes that those rubber tires did. They didn't have a clue. There were no problems and there were no slips and I must say I would love to have one of these but they are quite expensive. This particular model can cost around sixty thousand dollars, so for me, in the short term, I'll just hire this guy to get it out there, but while we're on the topic of lawn mowers, I have to thank this company.
Moschio because they saw the pond construction series and saw our need to mow the grass on the slopes and sent us a Flail. Lawn mower and this will basically hook onto the back of the tractor and ride up the slope of the pond, so we are going to use this in the future to mow the slope to the edge of the water, but I have to get another rear end. remote installed on the Kubota, so it will be a couple of weeks before we can play with this one. Well the sun is setting and the underwater green lights are about to come on so I've been feeding them a couple hundred a night and you can see the bait tank is working well, there are plenty of lively shiners in there , all the goldfish are out, let's go ahead and pick some up for tonight, once you see what they look like there's a good look at one in there, but I've been feeding them a couple hundred a night and I have a feeling which will increase once the bass start to grow a little, so several people commented on the last video saying that we should just bypass the filter in the bait tank and just pump water directly from the pond, but I have a second use for this bait tank I hadn't told you about yet and pretty soon we're going to start tagging all the bass and one of the things I've been looking into is a fish anesthetic and basically the way it works is it doesn't put the fish to sleep. fish, it just calms them down, so you can imagine how difficult it will be to catch a bass that is squirming and won't stay still.
Still, you basically put them in something like a live well or in this case a bait tank and the anesthetic calms them down, you tag them and then when you release them into the pond the effect wears off immediately and all the fish come back. to normal. So until we finish tagging all the fish, I'm going to keep the water in this bait tank isolated, but if any of you have used that technique to tag fish before, please contact me because I have a couple questions about it and since we were able to see eat the bass, now is the time to watch those fierce bluegills eat and it seems like they aren't as aggressive as they were in mid summer or maybe it's just because there aren't as many of them I've talked to many other pond owners who say that around October and November they will be less and less interested in bluegill pellets until next spring, so I was setting my lures out here in this dove field and something keeps coming.
Going ahead and taking them down, so I set up this game camera, let's see what it is, maybe during the day, maybe during the night, but something is definitely roughing them up. The first culpritIt's Al Capone and the next one is one of the coyotes, I think. He got a little scared and the deer aren't quite sure why the birds are perching on the ground at night. Okay, we catch a bass every two weeks. It's time to go out and catch one. We're trying to see how big. They are getting it because soon we will start our tagging system where we tag a bass and start the contest so I got the spinning rods ready let's see if we can catch a big one today I got it oh yeah I got it. a nice big little mouth quite green in color right there on its fins, but basically here, when it gets a little bit bigger, we'll start putting them in that tank and that anesthetic so it doesn't slump as much and then we'll go ahead and label it. and we will submit it to the contest. that's exactly what I wanted to see now, back, okay, setting up the peanut picnic table again and everyone knows the deal peanuts pistachios Brazil nuts pecans and sunflower seeds now let's see what kind of bugs they go out to eat tonight first I caught a farmer in the wild preparing some deer plots and you know the sunflower seeds will always bring those little birds and some bucks wondering how those peanuts got on the table and here's one I didn't expect I see the cat which we call whiskers, is usually there chasing the mice, but tonight another deer doesn't come by, but they don't commit to eating and last but not least, George Jones the possum is always cleaning up.
Duty and usually whenever he shows up. He will be the last peanut of the night because he cleans them up. Now it's time for another full moon night. Let's relax and listen to The Crickets and the Frogs. Well, everyone knows that I like to experiment with different foods. Wildlife, this one is new to me, it's called g d rack attack and it has corn, rice, bran, soybean meal, wildlife mineral supplement, and apple flavoring. They definitely like apples, so let's spread some of that around here to see what comes up on camera. and this is one of those plots that I continue to plant with soybeans and winter peas all year round so that the deer will use this plot frequently.
I will be planting it here in the next few weeks, it is a very fine powdery substance so instead of spreading it. everywhere I tried to pile it up because we have a lot of sand in this area so I made two little piles to see if you like it and look who appeared is Pepe Le Pew the skunk and as I have seen in the past he is not afraid of deer and he is not will back off, but as we watch some of these deer clips, I've been asked a lot if we're ever going to hunt here on the farm, so my original thoughts were that we're not going to hunt and just film all the wildlife here on the farm, but I understand that whitetail deer can become overpopulated and cause some damage, so I honestly think I'll leave it up to you and I thought if I ever did a search, it would probably be a subscriber search where we would bring in one of you and we would stay at the cabin for a couple of nights and potentially even let a child in. and shoot your first ear off or something, but I'm not sure about the legality or insurance coverage if someone gets hurt, but before you start thinking about all that, leave your comments below, uh, yeah, you'd like that. to watch a hunt or know how to keep it like we've been doing and just let the wildlife do their thing, but I have to say I was impressed with the Rack Attack.
Normally when we launch a new product, the deer don't touch it. for days and we're skeptical, but this particular product had a lot of deer traffic in front of it and especially bucks, so here in a few weeks we can do a comparison video where we put this in addition to some apple corn and some other things that we know. Deer like this every week, when I see these nighttime images there is usually one or two times where I am surprised by what I see and this is one of those clips where have you ever seen a coyote chase a little mouse to the feet of a deer and I couldn't really tell there at the end if it chased away one of the coyotes or if it just ran off on its own, but look, here's the same group of deer and coyotes starting to move through the peanuts. fields and then, just as they reach the top of the hill, something scares them.
I'm not sure if it was a neighbor or some other wild animal, but the race is on. Here's a quick clip of Sarah hanging out with some of her friends. She must love it, that's what farm life is all about and now it's time to feed Mr. Moby. Foreigners who are going to conclude this video, be sure to hit the subscribe button to follow the five acres of pond adventures that you won't be able to do. I want to miss the duck houseboat that will be featured in the next video, but I hope you all enjoyed this video and I'll see you next time abroad.
