Fall signs using window clings.

Hi, I'm Rachel and these are Rachel's rustics, welcome or welcome back today. I've got some

fall

themed DIYs for you, they're rustic and farmhouse style, if that's something you'd like to see, stick around, like and subscribe, okay, so here we are. I have a pumpkin that I bought from the Dollar Tree. I think last year I may have picked it up this year and I'm just

using

a heat tool and a razor blade to try to remove the slats from those two back slats so I can try to paint them separately without getting paint on the others.

I just thought it would be a little easier in the end. I ended up not even

using

those back slats anyway, so I took my time speeding this up. but it took me a little while, so here I have the five pieces and then I end up trying to figure out which direction I'm going to go. I use this pumpkin with Waverly chalk paint, pumpkin is the color I use on two of the ribbons. and then I ended up using an antique wax to go over them because it was too shiny for my taste, so this one, uh Agave, oh no, peacock, peacock, I did that for the middle piece there and then there's an antique wax. that I'm about to take out I have about three or four different types of antique wax.

I have had this for a long time and use it constantly so it lasts a long time and while the paint is still wet. That's when I go in and use that old wax, try to mix it in as much as possible anyway and use a little bit more on this stem to make it a little bit darker, yeah, and then I do it for that piece too and then On the Two other pieces I used Waverly Ivory Chalk Paint and then I ended up doing the same thing with the Antique Wax on top as well and it normally covered up those holes but I had intentions of covering them up of some sort.

By the way, so I left those holes there that you can see at the top of the second and fourth piece of wood. Okay, so I have this wooden round that I got. I got both from the Dollar Tree. I forgot to mention that. and I just use those same age marks to go over everything, so at first I start using a brush and then I take a baby wipe and it gets a lot softer when you use a baby wipe. I guess there's some kind of like a slip factor, I heard Holly from Holly's hot Humble Pie, she says there's a lot of like a conditioner type in there and it works really well, so I just did everything and then I make sure to do the abroad. and I use my heat tool to try to speed up the drying process there, so I place this over the pumpkin on the wood around it and start gluing them together, but I leave a little bit of space between each one because I still want it to have that slatted look. and I took some Scrabble pieces, Scrabble tiles and I spelled out be grateful and then I spaced them out as evenly as I could on the pumpkin, so I just took my heat gun and I took just a little bit of hot glue and I stuck them down there trying to put two on each except the ends, there is a letter on each wooden slat and I use a ruler to make sure everything is straight, then I just grab a bunch of flowers I had in my stash trying to figure out what would look good.

I spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out what not what I wanted to do. In fact, I almost didn't put this in because I had to walk away because I just wasn't satisfied and I'm sure a lot of people know that crafters are familiar with that as well and they'll notice that my nails are red here and then when I come back I think. They're white, so that's how long I stayed away for about two weeks. I let this sit without putting together a video because I just couldn't figure out how I wanted to finish it, so I just took a couple of sheets and then some. flower from one of the stems and I also bought all of these at Dollar Tree all the flowers from Dollar Tree and I'm taking acorns and pumpkins and all kinds of things um so here I walked away here I came back and I just took some of this it's like a white cotton rope.

I don't even remember where I got this from. I've had it for a while, and then I pulled out a few others because I was trying to decide which ones. one I wanted to use and chose this one just to lighten it up a bit. Sorry I just took the hot glue and glued it very slowly around the edge and then I ended up making a hanger using a coat hanger for that for the top unit well hang it up so I'm taking my time and wrapping the rope around it , I cut it and then use a little after cutting it, like the excess, I use a little heat. glue just to try to pull the seam together so it's not so noticeable where it starts and ends weird so this is where I grabbed some thread and then I put a piece of tape on the end and put it through that hole and then um I just it creates a knot in the front and I think I had to tie two or three knots on each side so it wouldn't come through because it's a thinner thread, there's the end result, well this is where I use the Agave. so this is just a sign I got from the Dollar Tree.

I had planned to use it before, so, this is the back, I'm actually on the other side. I had peeled what was there, I took it off but I use the Agave all over the sign and I end up giving it these two coats, I actually just use my heat tool to speed up the process so here's the second coat and then while this second coat It's wet, I grabbed I think it was mineral, the mineral color, Waverly chalk paint. and I did some strokes on top just to lighten it up because my house is decorated almost in gray and white so when I add a little bit of color like this it's really drastic and very stark-like to me so make sure you try to lighten it up yeah mineral chalk paint, so I try to lighten it up somehow, so I took like a little brush and put some streaks on there and then I mixed it, mixed the two together.

It is painted while it is wet so there are no hard lines or anything like that. I think it turned out really well, so while I have a second I just want to say that I apologize for not posting as many videos as once a week, there's so much. work that goes into creating these videos and then doing the editing and then the voiceovers and I mean all that and then my computer was acting crazy so I'm trying so here I have some

that I got from Dollar General, I think the last time. year um and some Mod Podge matte, so I put the Mod Podge matte map on top of almost the entire board, um because I'm going to use the largest

window

of that set that they're putting on the right and I have some paint. or something there, so I'm trying to remove it, so we just take it and leave it, I try to center it as best I can, but down and I don't use Mod Podge much, so I'm It's like learning as I go.

I'm trying to do things that aren't all Cricket related because I know not everyone has a Cricut, but I'm learning that with Mod Podge you have to use either very thick, you know, a thick. consistency or go inch by inch with that kind of stuff because it tends to dry before you know your um like adhesive or whatever on top of your project, so then I have these debris and transfers that I got from the Dollar. Tree this year and I really like them. I've wanted to use them for a while and I just couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with them, so I picked up a couple of those and ended up putting "No".

I don't know like three or four of those

leaves on this sign that I was going to use like the squirrel and the leaf and all that, you know, those things that are in the window, but I just don't know, it's too much for I think I just needed a couple of little things, so when they're really easy to use, you literally just put them down, scrape, you know you could use this, uh, I don't even know what it's called, just some kind of a scraper or a stick of trowel, you know, any kind of hard service, you can even use your fingernail, probably and just scratch it and it will come off right away, but you have to work slowly when you're peeling, there's like a little layer that you need to peel off, but if you can't get it everything, just put it back in and scrape it again and it'll be great so like I had it, you could see the Mod Podge that I wanted. to go over the whole thing so if you look at it you know from a different angle it doesn't have spots where you can see the mod podge and then spots where you can't so I just went over everything and this is matte so it has a little bit of shine , but it's pretty opaque, I think, compared to the others, and it's also like a protective, um, protective layer that's on top of your project that will hold all of that together. things okay so I think I use my heat tool um at the end just to speed up the drying process because I'm really impatient yeah and then I take some pip okay please tell me what they are are they berries with pips or nugget. berries with seeds, um, but I love them every time I see them, I grab four or five of these from the Dollar Tree, so I take the end of one and take out some of the berries because I didn't want them on the back and then I wrapped it up a couple of times, usually on projects like this I use twine and I'll wrap it a couple of times, but on this one I had these little bears that I thought would look really cool, so I did it. all the way up and down um and it's a very thin wire, you can cut it just like you saw with scissors and in the video there are those two holes at the top.

I didn't put the thread there um in the video, but I did later. This can be hung, so again just wrapping the bottom with these seeds or berry pips, tell me: I'm sorry, I think I'm catching a cold, so there it's all pretty and it's a beautiful finish. I like it, it adds a lot of color. which I'm not used to, but I think it's a good type of color. Here I have a type of board that I asked my husband for. In fact, he used her. He likes this paint pouring technique and was not happy with it. so we scraped all the paints off and I didn't want it to go to waste so I kept it at first.

I used chalk paint. I forget what the color is, but it's very light gray and just didn't provide coverage. I feel like I would have had to apply five or six coats of paint to cover. I'm going to cover up anyway, but I didn't want anything to stick out, so I wanted it to be a solid color, so this is elephant. Waverly chalk paint, which is dark gray, and again, here I go trying to use Mod Podge. I have a piece of scrapbook paper that looks like barch wood. I think it's called barch, yes, barge. I don't know, but anyway, here I am.

I'm covering everything like I haven't learned before and I'm not happy with the placement, it's not all the way on the edge so I lifted it up and it's like it wasn't even glued and I just put it on. There's no fan on downstairs or anything so if you do things like this make sure you go little by little learning from my mistakes The weather in March is called Birchwood right, oh God, so I use this little one. I can't find my words today. I don't know what the hell this is, it's like a rolling tool and it makes sure everything is really flat and there are no air bubbles or anything like that.

I'll think about it when I go to bed tonight so I take a razor and cut the excess off the sides and I used my heat tool just to try to dry out some of the Mod Podge and the sanding block to try and There's kind of blending on the edges a little bit, it just makes the lines softer, they're not as hard, so here I have some other window

that I got from Dollar General last year, one dollar, they're really nice for just a dollar.

So I'm playing with it to figure out what the best location is, so I turn it this way and that. It's like I'm really going crazy because of what that thing is called. I know. I hear people say it all the time. but I can't think of that but anyway I use some Mod Podge and put it on the back of the window and try to straighten it out and then do the same thing with the truck if there are some Mod Podge tips. I would appreciate it if you would let me know. I don't use it much, so I'm learning.

I know there's a technique where they leave it on and then use it as an iron on top or as a Cricut. heat press like stuff like that, you can, it's really cool the way it's done, but I haven't tried it yet, so I was almost done with this, but then I changed my mind, it wasn't like that, it wasn't how I wanted it to be. So I take these little wooden dowels, they're square dowels and then I take the same elephant colored Waverly chalk paint and I paint all four of them on three of the sides and on the ends, so I didn't paint the side that I'm on.

I'm going to do like a border with these Dow rods, so I didn't paint one side because I'm going to glue it on, so I paint all four of them and then to lighten it up a little bit, I took the ivory. Waverly chalk paint and just a dry brush on top of that and I did it on, you know, all three sides. I was pretty brave to do it right on top of my project, uh, it probably wasn't the smartest thing, yeah, so we're just dry brushing. on top of them and then I place it on top of the line, you know, the edge of the piece of wood and I painted the edges of this, this is like an inch tall or something, so I also painted the edges with the paint the elephant trunk. so I just line up the windows, do the sides first and then I know I'm going to need to cut the pegs down, so I just put that one in there and measure to where it needs to be.

I cut it with my little scissorsmiter there and sand the edge. I really like these things, they are very useful, they work very well in most cases. time and normally I would take that piece and place it against the remaining piece to measure it, but I have learned that is not smart because the top and bottom of many projects are not the same size even though they are Square, so here I am just measuring again, cutting what I don't need, sanding it. I had to keep cutting this when I cut too short. I was so afraid of cutting too much so I just glued it on and then dry brushed the sides um also since I dry brushed those wooden pegs not sure if I showed it there but I try to show it in the final result , which is about to appear, so here is the final result.
