The WORST Draft Day Comparisons of the Last 10 Years

Apr 21, 2024
Every player in the

last

ten

years

has had some sort of comparison going into the NBA Draft, some have gotten it right and these players have turned out to be exactly what the Scouts expected and then there are others who have been absolutely terrible and didn't. It didn't make any sense then and it still doesn't make any sense now, and those are the ones we're seeing today. All of these

comparisons

come from the NBA Draft Network and of course I understand that it's impossible for them to perfectly predict everyone's career, but that's the fun part, that's why we look back to see how wrong these were.

Scout based on how these players turned out and we'll look at all the bad

comparisons

from the

last

ten

years

, from 2008 to 2017. There are more of some and less of others, but at least one from each

draft

, so with that said, we start in 2008 with Jerryd Bayless, most casual NBA fans probably don't even know who Jerryd Bayless is, but if you know him, you'll know he never has been. More than one decent bench player has bounced around a lot of teams over the last 10 years, but coming into the league, hopes were much higher for him because coming into the

draft

, Bayless was being compared to Gilbert Arenas and G Williams I mean, the way he played in college, it makes sense, but the way he played in the NBA, they couldn't have been more wrong.

More Interesting Facts About,

the worst draft day comparisons of the last 10 years...

I mean, Arena was an elite scorer and playmaker and Bayless is a good corner 3-point shooter and then the other bad comparison. of 2008 was Michael Beasley and you know that someone who played as well as Beasley in college and finished as poorly as him had to be on the list of the comparisons he was receiving at Kansas State Beasley had one of the best. In his college seasons he scored 26 and 12 on 56% shooting and 38% from three. He was so dominant in his first year that he ended up being compared to Carmelo Anthony in his early years. Those comparisons had flashes where they seemed accurate, but almost always. since then he couldn't be further from that, so the way he ended his career, this has just been horrible and then we go to 2009 with Hasheem Thabeet.

Alright, flippy was a good offensive player, he generally only scored on the smaller players and was dominant. 7-foot-3 shot blocker on defense in college, which is why he was selected second overall and compared in the draft to Kimbe Matumbo Hashim, who dominated on defense and Stover, four bucks a game during his three years at UConn , but only because a seven-foot-three man. guys being able to block a lot of college players doesn't mean he had to be picked second overall or compared to an NBA Hall of Famer because on top of that, he didn't really know what he was doing talking about second picks overall what they turned out to be will be a failure that brings us to 2010 with Evan Turner, who was compared to Brandon Roy.

Now, if Turner lived up to the hype, there's a good chance these comparisons would have made sense, but he did, he had one of the most dominant seasons in college. he was athletic, good around the rim, could shoot pretty well, honestly he was considered surpassed by John Wall, but the moment he entered the NBA everything changed, he instantly looked like an average athlete compared to his stagnant competition in the NBA. offense and its games. I've never really been able to translate it into an NBA game. I mean, everyone who gets drafted looks great in college, but not everyone can be a star in the 2011 NBA.
The first one is Kanter, this one didn't make sense back then and still does. It doesn't make sense now because Ana Cantor's comparison was Al Horford Provider of Horford who can do a little bit of everything block shots rebound pass midrange shots and 3-pointers and post up, but when we think of a Kanter we usually think of a traditional big man. I think Canada has been very underrated for a while, but not that underrated. He doesn't play the same style nor is he as good as Al Orford. Klay Thompson. Well, this is definitely one of the

worst

comparisons on the list and possibly of all time because of the Klay Thompson comparison. was Marco Belinelli Belinelli was practically known his entire career as simply a 3-point shooter and Clays turned out to be not only 100 times better but also one of the best shooters of all time at the time, his weakness was said to have been his athleticism. but that hasn't stopped him from being one of the best defenders and overall players in the league all these years and the fact that the Scouts turned Klay Thompson into a guy like Belinelli is just funny to think back on right now.
Leonard honestly this one isn't that bad with Kawhi being compared to Luca moba bootay and Gerald Wallace Kawhi is offensive even to this day he has a similar style to what Gerald Wallace had and his defense is similar to mobile Muto is now 10 times better than both. of things and those two guys, but it's still a pretty solid comparison, especially with players who had been in the league up to that point. I mean he really should have been compared to Scottie Pippen but he didn't but he made the video for how much better he became than these guys and from his draft report that says things like this Kawhi Leonard doesn't have an offensive look that stands out or that allows him to consistently score the ball, he doesn't have great touch around the basket and is not very disciplined on defense, gambles too often and leaves his teammate susceptible to allowing easy baskets.
We're talking about the best defender in the league, the guy who has more steals than fouls, so they definitely got this wrong too. Tobias Harris, okay? I've seen Tobias become a star this year and we've seen how good of a scorer he's become. I mean, even in high school he was a five-star recruit and played forward in college, but even through that draft comparison. I still compared him to Kris Humphries. Come on, this is getting out of hand. I understand. You can't predict how good everyone will be, but when you're that wrong, someone needs to be fired.
Right now, let's look at 2012. One of those only players is Draymond Green and this makes sense because Draymond wasn't very good in high school, he didn't stand out in college and he was drafted in the second round and yet his career started out pretty slow , so we can't blame him. Anyone for this one except the guy was compared to Jared Dudley coming into the draft and I mean they both had similar styles and weren't the most athletic so I'd say they did a decent job judging him as a player back then but it was a terrible job judging his potential and now we got a lot of 2013 first with Cody Zeller.
Great things were expected of Zeller, who went fourth overall in 2013, but I still don't think he should have been compared to LaMarcus Aldridge, and by the way. Things have turned out that he shouldn't know is that his post port said there was very little chance of him being a bust and I guess they went a little wrong because so far he's been nothing more than an average center in the NBA, Victor Oladipo , so now we have the other member of the 2012-13 Indiana team, and this one is terrible too, since they compared Oladipo to Tony Allen.
Victor has always been a great defender and took time to develop his offensive game, but his report said he didn't have a complete offensive game and never developed one, and getting those comparisons to Tony Allen shows how bad they thought he was. was their offense and what could have been, we've seen how good all the deposits were. went to that extreme and how wrong it has proven that these Scouts beat Ben McLemore, another

worst

in the video and possibly one of the worst of all time. Here is a quote from macklemore's preliminary report. He is a prototypical guard with a delicious combination of athleticism. and shooting ability has an elite-level MPA to protect potential, he was the talent to eventually rank among the league's best shooting guards in his prime and was compared to Ray Allen.
I mean seriously, he looked good in college but now it seems like he's coming out of the league he's still a good shooter and athletic but there's nothing good about his game and he's the furthest thing from Ray Allen now that you can get CJ McCollum in college McCollum was a great scorer and three-point shooter, but not enough to be compared to Steph Curry, which he was. I want to be fair, the comparison was made right before Curry made his first all-star team and became the greatest shooter of all time and the two-time MVP we know today, but we're still looking. what these two players have become The Scouts were wrong Rudy Gobert Gobert is one of the best defenders in the league right now, but they started comparing him to Sean Bradley, the eight-foot-one guy who didn't have a lick of athleticism in his body and was in the league only because of his height, but this comparison comes from the fact that Gobert is one of the tallest standing and with the longest wingspan and combines history, he was quite thin at the time of getting drafted, I mean, they mentioned in Colbert was a good run saver, but come on, the studies are better than Sean Bradham 2014 with Andrew Wiggins.
We all know that average fans compared Wiggins to LeBron and KD and some sites compared him to a mix of Tracy McGrady and Clyde Drexler, but the NBA Draft. Ned had him like a cross between Vince Carter and Rudy Gay. I'm not going to lie, this isn't the worst comparison, but I just had to mention it because of all the other college comparisons he got in high school. Dante Exum had high hopes for I mean, just because they're tall doesn't mean they'll always be great all-around players like Hardaway was, and Exilim made it very clear: He went fifth overall, but he's never started or averaged more than eight points per game and he definitely won't.
It seems that way. Ever Mark Smart Easily one of the worst on video with Marcus Smart compared to Dwyane Wade if it's not already clear this is why college cheats a lot of times because the best athletes can make their games look like a much better than they actually are, but they are faster and stronger than most other players at their positions, but I mean Dwyane Wade, they couldn't have been more wrong, smart, has great fundamentals, but is basically just Known for his energy and defense, not his Level of Play Hall of Fame 2015 Justice Winslow this is one of the worst and most accurate comparisons at the same time, Scouts compared Justice Winslow to James Harden they had a similar style when he was in college, but since they are in the NBA they have absolutely nothing in common they are completely different players he toughens up they show up they score and win souls a complete athletic player with good defense so he definitely knows James Hart but do you think whoever made this comparison should be fired but they also compared him to Wilson Chandler?
They are also two strange players to compare someone to, but since Winslow has been in the NBA he has played very much like Chandler, so strangely, Chandler was terrible and great at the same time Kristaps Porzingis Chris Tops was compared to Andrea Bargnani and Pau Gasol. which really is the worst comparison for him, but he just makes a list for the fact that he wasn't compared to Dirk like, come on, they're Stanley Johnson twins. Many of you may have never heard of Stanley Johnson, but he is the Pistons' backup forward who averaged 7 per game during his non-college career, which is why he was compared to Kawhi Leonard and Ron Artest.
Don't get me wrong. Stanley is a great underrated defender, but Kawhi in our test was a blocking defender and excellent on offense. also and Stanley Johnson isn't for now, they overrated Johnson's buyability in 2016 Brandon Ingram Brandon Ingram was compared to Kevin Durant I mean do I really need to say anything besides his body shape? They had nothing in common as players and finally in 2017. We had Kyle Kuzma, who once predicted that Kyle Huisman would be a Jared Jeffries type player. He is crazy to those of you who don't even know who Jeffries is. This is him and he averaged four points and four rebounds in his career with 25% from three and here is Kuzma, who already averaged 17 and 6 with 34% from 3 in his career.
Sure Koosman surprised everyone, but even looking back, he's terrible. Donovan Mitchell talks about terrible. We have Donovan Mitchell, who was compared to Norman Powell out of college. Norman. Powell in these first two years of Mitchell's career has already had a better career than he normally will have in his entire career. I mean, Donovan compares much better to a star like Dwayne Wade than anything else and it's not even like it took Mitchell years to develop, so there wouldn't have beenKnowing how good he was, he started playing like a star in his rookie season and just one year before the Scouts thought he looked more like Norman Powell and Marquel finally retires here we have the last one and the fact that Marquel retired withdraws generated comparisons. with James Harden, I mean, maybe there was some resemblance in college, but it's funny looking back now that this guy was thought to have been the next James Harden, and actually, it's a little depressing, but that'll conclude the video.
A little long but he wanted to get through as many of these as he could. I didn't make any rookies because we had to give them at least a year to show themselves, but if I missed any more in the last ten years I definitely calmed them down. below and let me know, don't forget to like, subscribe and I'll watch your next video.
