The Car Market Is a HUGE Dumpster Fire! Dealers STUCK With Overpriced Cars, Trucks & SUVs

Mar 11, 2024
The auto

market

is a big

dumpster

right now and

dealers

hips are crumbling under the weight of excessive inventory and high prices. Dealers are literally doing everything they can to get rid of as much inventory as possible. I'm standing in an overflow lot to buy a Jeep Ram Chrysler. Dodge dealer here in Scottsdale, Arizona and I am amazed at the number of vehicles stored here. It's hidden behind this shopping center about a half mile from where the

dealers

hip actually is and it's not the only brand struggling with an overflow of inventory and slow sales, you also see what they're doing there, they're jumping on a Grand Cherokee and the The problem is that when these

cars

sit for a while, things break and the batteries run out.

In my last video we looked at prices in Boise, Idaho to see if there were any discounts and some dealers got a few thousand off their

trucks

and honestly truck prices still need to drop much more so while we're here in Arizona, I want to go ahead and see if there are any discounts on Ford RAM, Chevy Jeep and Toyota. and in this video I don't just want to look at the prices of the

trucks

, this time I also want to see what the prices are like for some of the

cars

and also other SUVs from all these brands, you don't just know Dodge and Jeep, where I am.

More Interesting Facts About,

the car market is a huge dumpster fire dealers stuck with overpriced cars trucks suvs...

I'm here, but while we're here on this lot and I want to show you something that I thought was a little crazy when it comes to Jeep Wrangler pricing and I wanted to show you this right here, which is one of the most expensive Jeep Wrangler I've ever seen. , it's not a 392 with the V8, it's basically a Sahara, but it's a 4xe, which means you have the electric plug and you can charge it and all that, but the price of it. Honestly it's a little outrageous, I have a 2024 4xe high altitude, MSRP is $7,455. This dealership adds window ENT and whatever Zack Tech is, but that brings the total to $7,950.

It's basically Jeep trying to compete with AMG at this point in the Mercedes G. Wagon, but what we really need to see as far as Jeep trying to be more luxurious is this wagon ear here, they're getting very, very expensive and As you can see, they have a full line as far as you go. I can see it here and they sell, but very, very slowly and they sit still for a while. This seems like a sort of mid-level trim level. It's a 2024 Wagoner L with four-wheel drive for a whopping $73.0. 73 Grand is a lot for a Jeep um in my opinion and just for fun let's look at a regular Grand Cherokee again covered in a ton of dust so these things and tree leaves have been here for a while this is a 202 4 model with two wheel drive for 53170 and it's limited so Jeep is no longer cheap unless you get one of these little guys but what I want to show you as far as the car Side Dodge has the Challenger and the charger but this year it's practically the last one. that any of these cars will have the V8 engine, they are getting rid of it and they are trying to make more twin turbo engines, but as you can see here, sales of sports cars are quite slow, these are also covered in dust and uh. leaves and all kinds of other things, this one especially is bad.

It seems like it's been here for a long time. You can see some handprints that were also recovered in the ground, so I want to show you how much this. The Charger is and it's a Scat Pack version and it looks like a 2023 Charger Scat Pack Daytona with the 392. You're looking at $61,500 for this thing, plus they added a $5,000 dealer markup on this, uh $4.99 for window 10 Zack teac for $299, whatever, wheel locks for $199, bringing the price to $7,595 and no wonder this has been sitting idle for a while and is totally covered in dust, pollen and little leaves of trees because they want $55,000 more than the MSRP for this, which you definitely should.
Never ever pay and as you can see they have a row of them up here and another row on this side over here and a truck bringing more inventory there now let's see what it's like at the actual dealership. Quick and then we'll go see what's going on at Toyota, so I get to their actual lot and they're loaded with trucks in this row and it's pretty full, they have some empty spaces here, but I talked to the sales department. guys inside and said they have some discounts, they're not on the window stickers, but if you go talk to them, they have discounts on the big Wagoner, up to $20,000 off some of them.
All Gladiators have discounts of 10 to 20%. off if you buy one of these the Wranglers are a little off not sure how much but they said everything is discounted you just go ahead and talk to them so I'm here with Val at the dealership and He I just want to talk about the

market

for a minute and what they are doing with pricing, the market is definitely becoming a buyer's market and what we are seeing are

huge

incentives from the factory. Grand wagoners, up to $20,000 off, you've got your work cut out for you. trucks at 20% off, it's definitely a buyer's market if you're looking in Phoenix for a wagon close to a truck or something and you're wondering if you're about to buy something and you're wondering if I can get a better deal.
Yes you can. Getting a better deal here at Air Park will make any deal a reality. Distributors are literally doing everything they can to get rid of as much inventory as possible. They are getting pressure from the factory. Hey, take that inventory, take that inventory. Fortunately, we have everything under control and we are. in the business you don't make good deals but great deals but any of the vehicles that are special they have some 392 here and they have as the latest charger Scat Pack which also has a profit margin so like many dealers they are still marking .
Some of the special cars, but all this inventory that you see here, it's a normal everyday thing, they're giving discounts here in Scottdale at this dealership, at least now we're going to see what's going on at Toyota and conveniently it's there same. here at Toyota and as you can see behind me, they have very little inventory. You have a few Camrys here and there, maybe a handful of them. You've got a top trim level camera here and you've got the crown, which is selling very, very slowly because honestly it looks a little weird, but we've got some Force wrap around here and of course the Tundra is clad in everywhere, but the interesting part compared to now and when I was here at this dealership.
Back in December, this whole section here was completely filled with Toyota Tacomas, so it looks like Toyota is actually selling a lot of their stuff and got rid of all the 2023 Tacomas they had. They just left, but let's see any of These Tundras here are marked with discounts or if like Jeep Ram Dodge, you have to go in and talk to them to find out what the discount is and I want to start here with this white one just because it caught my attention, maybe the chrome wheels caught my eye and it is a Capstone which means it will be the most expensive version and looking at the window sticker I already see a problem that bothers me: you are looking at $81,000 898, however, If you look closer at the decal they want $1,199.95 for the Expo, window fender protectors and protection package, $249 for the door edge protectors and $4.99 for a custom Toyota tailgate emblem , which brings it to $2,744 in additional add-ons and I don't know if I could look, because the sun was pretty intense at that angle, but there are $2,700 worth of options that you honestly don't need to pay for and they wanted almost $500 for this shiny tailgate emblem rear and, if I read correctly, it seems a little crazy to me. now let's see real quick if I can find one a little bit cheaper that's a Capstone that's a platinum that's a platinum that's a Capstone and we have a TRD 4x4 Offroad right here so let's look at this real quick.
I like the darkened one. Grille on this, I think it looks great with the blacked out wheels and it's a 2024 limited crew max MSRP of $64.65 with the $2,744 worth of ridiculous stuff, now there's nothing wrong with add-ons if you ask yourself, what? TRUE? I want to wear this, but when they put it on and basically force you to buy it, I think it's a little silly. I just found a Tacoma and it's there and we have to go see it because it's in my favorite Toyota color and by the way none of these have window discounts and with them putting in extra stuff I'm not sure if there will be discounts, it looks like we have a Used TRD Pro Tacoma right here and honestly this green color is my favorite sticker. a little hard to read here but it's $529.99 with all their extra stuff on the 10 window and everything for a couple of Grand's which brings it to $54.2 $89 and most of these midsize trucks really don't last a lot on these lots because they are just hard to find and even at that price I don't see the Tacoma lasting long because the TRD Pro versions are really hard to find, but the 54 Grandin is still a little crazy for a midsize truck and for You, parents, who are. among the minivan crowd, this 2024 Sienna Platinum Hybrid, let's look at the window sticker it's 55.66984, trucks are expensive, but what about the Rav 4?
Because I haven't actually seen many new Rav 4Ss at dealerships, they usually go very quickly and this. one, uh, it doesn't even have the window sticker, oh, it's down there on the ground, I don't know if you can see it, but this is a 2024 WRA 4 hybrid and the price is $34,320 $578 and interesting difference here about this. Rav 4 is that you don't see any of the dealer's complementary stickers. I don't know if they just haven't gotten them yet or if they want to keep them at the low price they have so you can find them. something interesting at Toyota if you're looking for a Rav 4 um if I had a Rav 4 I'd actually buy this one here this blue one here with the black wheels and it's the TRD off-road package and this is actually a new color for the new 2024 Land Cruiser that isn't in dealerships yet, so we have a 2024 Rav 4 TRD Off-Road in Cavalry Blue with White Top.
You're looking at $44,100 and again there's no additional dealer sticker. here, it looks like their trucks have add-ons, but they don't on their SUVs or cars and of course we have to look at the Camry because this video is not just about trucks, we are looking at everything as a whole because many of us don't need trucks, so this black one here again is a 2024 Camry SE unit and you're looking at $31,500, so it looks like you can get some reasonable stuff if you go down to the car level or the smaller SUVs, obviously the 4Runners are always going to be expensive, Tundras will be expensive and the new 2024 Tacomas are actually going up in price, but enough about Toyota.
Let's see what's happening at Chevy. Well I came here to Chevy and We were at this dealership like the others in December and they were loaded with trucks and it looks like they still have a lot of them but not as many. We have this whole line that goes all the way here and around the corner to You can see and they also have some on this side and around the corner, however, they have sections here that are finally emptying out, so they're finally starting to get some out. of these trucks from the lots, so we know that's empty back here, but I want to go around this corner and see how many they have in this back.
We have a couple of empty spaces here as well and a few more empty spaces right here. All this again used to be full of trucks and you just couldn't. even walk anywhere they even had trucks stacked along this row where they could and parked on top of the sidewalks here so it looks like they are selling out but again still very very slowly and this is also empty all over the place side where it used to be. full too and we still have some empty spaces here and there are so many less that I can basically stand right in the middle of all these trucks so Chevy is selling out and I think they are outselling Ram for at least two reasons and The first reason It's right behind me, so you've got some of these lower trim levels.
This is a Chevy, this is a GMC, pretty much the same thing, with a more basic trim level, so this 2004 1500 Pro will set you back an MSRP of $41,000. They are already starting lower than what you see from RAM and Ford with their fairly high prices. I would never see a $41,000 entry level Ford F-150, you're looking at 60 grand and this is like almost 20 grand. Less so, but one thing is that it wasn't four wheel drive, so what about a full size four wheel drive Chevy Silverado? They don't have the full window sticker that I can see here, but they did have this little sticker with their ad.
It's got denim, it's a 2024 with a couple grand in add-ons for 5739 and it's got four wheel drive in a nice black color and that's one of the mid to low trim levels so it's being pushed up . There, into Ford's entry-level territory, but what about this top-trim ZR2 Bison we have here? We have the Bison ZR2 in black and it is a Duramax so it could increase theprice compared to the V8 engine. It's pretty dark here, but it's a 2024 ZR2 with all-wheel drive and the price is where we go crazy: $823,000. I've never really done SUVs on my channel so I want to see how much these tahos cost so let's go ahead and look at this Cherry and We have the window sticker on the front so we have a 2024 Tahoe High Country with 22 wheels inches and this is pretty much one of the high-end trim levels you're seeing at $8,600 with many dealers. add-ons worth $2200 for $88,834 and the thing about this is I spoke to the salesman and one of the sales managers and they have discounts there is a 5000 factory rebate on some of the vehicles and then there is a dealer discount. about $3,500 depending on which vehicle you look at but that's what car dealers do.
They find ways to make that money back and they do it by adding over two thousand dollars worth of stuff and the good thing about those discounts is that you can finance with GM Financial for its lower interest rate or take the discount, but you can't do both. take the lower interest rate and the discount at the same time so either way it's really a wash depending on where your financing is and that's the hard part with dealerships and why a lot of people are just put off by this. Not only is it never easy, it's always complicated and you have to get in, that's what we have to deal with now until something changes and to be honest, I actually didn't think this Tahoe was as expensive as I expected in the middle of the year. 60s, now let's see what's happening at Ford.
Well, we finally get to Ford and I want to start with something that I thought was really interesting. Ford's quite a bit slower seller, we have the Mach e electric SUV and they have some of the most Mach I've seen at almost any dealer, they have a whole row that goes all the way to the entrance and it's not just one row, this row It's double stacked, so as you can see, I can stand on the right. in the middle and we have some over here, some over here and a bunch in this back row, but this is probably where you'll find one of the biggest discounts I've ever seen at Ford and they said there are discounts.
On some of the trucks, all 2023 models are discounted on the disc, but will not be on the window sticker. You have to go to the website and there are some discounts there, but this Mustang Mach e actually has a discounted window price. so let's take a closer look at this, but it's an all-wheel drive 2023 GT with an MSRP of 66,329, but I don't see any of that $15,000 price savings on any of these that you'll see below. row was just the one I had it in the window so I want to check if these are like 2024 models or if they are all 2023 and it looks like this is also a 2023 model, it's a lower trim level with an MSRP of $51,000 so it seems that they're having trouble selling that high trim maky Mustang and that's why that one has what looks like a $115,000 discount but as you can see, they're full of Maes, but we'll see.
What is happening with the trucks? Because since I was here last December they got rid of a lot of them, so obviously we have this fight that's still going on around here, but really all the truck madness is over. The fight actually stops. here on the sidewalk and they filled it with all these Ford trucks, work trucks and a Ford work truck and more work trucks here and before they didn't really have much room to put anything else and as you can see here, Now we can put other trucks besides the F-150, but they still have this row here and the heavy duty trucks there and they still have a whole row of 2023 Lightnings and that's one of the big struggles of Ford is that their stuff is just It's not really selling very good right now and those deep discounts like the one you saw with $115,000 off reflect the change in the market where many of the early adopters bought these trucks and then there is no one else left to buy them, at least not on the scale needed to have everything this lightning inventory, but like I said at the beginning of this video, we'll also look at a couple of SUVs because I've never checked what the prices are like the Escape. or the Explorer um so let's go look at it real quick so we have all these explorers here and I'm going to pick this white one at random because it looks like a 2024 model that they just got and yeah this is a 2024 with the Ecoboost V6 and it's an st model which is more of a performance trim level and the MSRP is $2,770 for the more performance oriented trim level and again there are no discounts in the window and there really aren't many discounts on The 2024 models are like trucks 2023 model they've been

stuck

with for years, but if you want something cheaper you can go for this little guy and, a side note, the exhausts will be gone.
I think this is the last year for the exhaust and the sticker is out there. I don't know if you can see it, but I can't even read what the MSRP is. Oh, I can. It's 35.9 Escape Hybrid makes it difficult when you can't see the sticker. but this one has a window sticker it's actually a 2023 model with front wheel drive and the tiny 1.5L EcoBoost and it'll cost you $32.5 40 and I'm pretty sure since it's a 2023 model if You visit their website, they probably have some kind of discount. I just wish they would put it in the window to make it a little easier for the buyer.
Check out this white 2023 Offroad FX4. There is no sticker on there that I can read. make it very easy to see the prices here is a sport and there is a sticker on the window and take note this is not four wheel drive it is a two wheel drive XLT and for a two wheel drive I still thinking this is too much. but it's a 2023 with the V6 for $57,900 Grand, don't you know, it's not higher, so that price still surprises me every time I see the price of these Fords in the last three years, but while we're at Ford, I want to check it out . something that I think is a little bit more fun and it's the new must-have Ford and they actually have quite a few of them in really good colors and I want to see how much we can find a GT for this red here's a GT. and they have the window sticker on the front but it's backwards it's a 2024 Mustang GT for $47.3 15 and here's the funny thing about sports car prices versus truck prices A long, long time ago , sports cars always used to be like the most expensive thing you could get and trucks were cheaper, but now that trucks got fancier, you know, with the high equipment levels and the high prices, the Ford Mustang It has actually become a more affordable car to buy and let's look at this one that is not a GT.
To see how low the price can go, this is a 2024 with 4-cylinder EcoBoost and you can get it for $37,800, so getting a Mustang under 40 Grand is pretty good. If you ask me, the only thing I don't like is that I like the new body style on these, but what bothers me about the lower trim level is that you get two separate screens here, honestly they look very cheap. I think it was a lazy design. They could have integrated it into the dash with the double bubble that Ford has always released. on the Mustang it gets a little better on the GT because you have a solid screen that goes all the way through it, but it's still not my favorite thing.
If I were to get into a Mustang again, I'd choose a GT350 because it's probably one. one of the best things ever made, but as you can see many dealers have discounts on the 2023 models, some of them have to go to the website to see them, so there is some kind of fix on the market, the only thing that is not correct is it's msrps because once you raise that MSRP it's really very difficult as a business to justify lowering that MSRP even though it would be the right thing to do, instead of raising prices to people with those higher RPS they're just offering all these incentives and discounts for the dealers and all that to make up for it, but I still think the truck prices are too high, too high actually, and I wish they would write the discounts on the window so you have an idea of what I could get because it would probably help people walking around the lot if they saw that things were discounted without having to talk to anyone instead of walking around the lot, you know, the prices put them off.
