They included: three beautiful rooms, an impeccable kitchen and this dream pool that makes you feel like you are in a cenote. Join us to see it. We are currently walking along 72nd Street in the center of Mé

rida

, and we are about to reach what will be our next prey. Let me introduce you to the "Zunum House". "Casa Zunum" is located just outside the limits of INAH's jurisdiction. For those who don't know, the INAH is a government institute in Mexico that deals with the preservation of historical buildings and monuments.

Such is the case of these historic facades in the center of Mé

rida

. This is what allowed the designer of this project to play on a "blank canvas" with this design. Something interesting that he was talking to us about; is that with each project it seeks to give back to the community. The façade of the property is an example of this. This one coincided with the property next door, which luckily, was a project that this designer also worked on. If you pass by here, there is much more harmony between these houses than those with completely different facades. -Wait, there is a passerby. -Yes I know.

More Interesting Facts About,

This façade is 8 meters wide (26 feet) and as you may have seen, it is retracted. Which allowed him to have this parking space. Despite having the option to include a second one, the designer decided to include this tree right here as a way to donate something to the community. They also included gravel instead of grass since this house is primarily used as a vacation rental space, and they wanted to reduce maintenance issues for people staying here. However, this didn't stop them from adding greenery: we have this tree in addition to these plants on the sides. The designer told us that his intentions are to plant more trees than there were when he arrived.

So you can imagine the garden we have in the back. Something very curious about this house is that in addition to having a colonial facade, it is very updated. We can see it here in this smart lock, as well as the irrigation system, the lighting system, heck, even the coffee machine! They decided to include these doors that replicate the doors used in the colonial facades. It is made of cedar wood, which is a very resistant type of wood and typical of the region. But hey, I think we've talked enough about what's outside, how about we go take a look at what's...behind this wall?

Once we are behind the wall, we cannot ignore that feeling of peace and tranquility that emanates from this space. You feel like you're walking down a hallway in one of Stanley Kubrick's movies (which, of course, aren't very "peaceful"). This, accompanied by these ArtDeco style arches, may even make you think that it is the entrance to a theater. They also included these hexagonal beige paste mosaics, which play a very important role in the property which we will get to later. They complemented this area with this standing mirror right here, with the intention of giving it a feeling of spaciousness.
Below we see how they left this skirting board exposed. They did this to allow the walls to breathe and prevent moisture problems. Here we have a door that gives us access to the first bedroom. We'll see. In this bedroom they included these four lights that are distributed symmetrically, and also two double beds. These are accompanied by an iron bed frame, a work that is also present in the closet we have here and on the desk. Practically in all the furniture we have in the room. To better locate ourselves we have this window that faces the outside.
It has these shutters that allow natural light to enter. Its frame is also slightly inclined so that the window can open much more freely. This is where we have the bathroom. Oh and of course, this hammock that looks delicious in this mustard tone. Here we have the bathroom... In it they included this polished white concrete plateau that extends to half the wall. It contrasts greatly with the rough finish we have on the top. For those who don't know, the rough or dashed finish is what we see up there; It consists of pouring concrete and spreading it with a trowel.
You've probably noticed that this bathroom is very well lit. This is thanks to the skylights that we have on the sides. They allow natural light to enter, and were complemented with those two LED light bars that illuminate the entire bathroom at night. It looks

incre

dible! Let's keep going. After seeing such a comfortable bedroom… which by the way, if you are ever interested in staying in a place as amazing as this; You can do it! This property is listed on Airbnb, we leave you the link with all the information in the description below. You've probably also noticed how well lit this space is...
This is quite rare in central Mérida properties, you generally tend to share walls with your neighbors and this prevents you from having windows. Well, they were able to achieve this thanks to the giant skylights we have on both sides of the roof. They are also present throughout the property. Once again, they used this baseboard and left it uncovered so the walls would collect less moisture. Although here they expanded it a little more, leaving the masonry work as a decorative element. Over here we have the bathroom that serves guests. In which they included this floor-length mirror to open the area a little more.
Also, they added this little mirror here... Hello Fer! It looks like a window. Something very curious about this room is that around here we found evidence that indicates that this room used to be a bedroom... A hammock hook! According to what the designer tells us, this bathroom, the one in the previous bedroom and the laundry room were a single room that they decided to convert into these three spaces. And if we continue here. We come to these walls that, look at the width, are probably a Roger wide. Here they used these curtains that allow us to control and prevent the air conditioning in this entire area from escaping into the receiver right there.
Let's take a look at the kitchen. You will probably agree with me when I tell you that the kitchen plays an

incre

asingly important role in our homes. This is why the person responsible for this project decided to pay tribute to them, exemplifying an altar. We see this in the kitchen hood that emulates a crucifix, and also in the kitchen island that looks like the pulpit. Above it they included two storage cabinets and a small wine cellar with a mechanism that regulates the temperature. Because the heat here in Mérida is crazy (#saveusfromtheheat). Here they used a black quartz finish which they also used on this kitchen countertop.
Something very curious about the kitchen is that they previously included a tile mosaic here, but when they saw the finished product they were not convinced by the result. Once it was removed, they liked the look of these textures and saw how well they harmonized with the entire area, so they kept it that way and simply covered it with paint. Over here we have the laundry room, for the fans. We see how they included both a washing machine and a dryer, in addition to all the necessary equipment. Let's keep moving. Check this out, folks! We're going to Mexico City!
We have been invited to the "Cemex Works Award" ceremony. This is the 31st edition and it has been a real marvel! If you don't make it, don't worry. We will be streaming the entire ceremony live! More information in the description below. See you next time at Premio Obras Cemex... Let's go! Here in the dining room they included this beautiful parota wood table, ideal for seating six to eight people. You have probably noticed the presence of several hummingbirds. This is because the word “zunum” means hummingbird in Mayan. This is because every day in the morning they have small visitors who come to suck the nectar from the flowers of the beautiful garden that we are about to see. Over here we have this table that is ideal for you to sit and have a cup of coffee;
It reminds me a lot of the one in my grandmother's house, that one was specific for answering calls. You could spend hours on the phone gossiping about anything. In contrast to this historical memory, we have these smart switches that allow us to not only turn the lights and fan on and off, but also dim the intensity of the light. Let's see how well they work. We'd better keep it up.... In this part of the property, the terrain gets a little rough. It was a little crooked, which complicated construction. You probably remember that I told you that the floors of this property play a very important role.
It was decided that these tiles should have a hexagonal shape to somehow keep this irregularity imperceptible. If we had used normal square tiles, the unevenness of the terrain would have been much more noticeable. Likewise, they included this blacksmith and wooden furniture to delimit both areas. On this side the living room, and on the other side the dining room and the kitchen. Instead of putting up a wall, they built this structure to allow our eyes to roam freely and make this space appear larger. In the living room they put this sofa... Again, sorry. In the living room they managed to include this L-shaped sofa without it looking strange thanks to the incorporation of this piece of furniture right here.
Which delimits this side and prevents the sofa from appearing to float awkwardly in the middle. It is also very comfortable; I think the dilemma is whether or not I prefer to watch television or stare straight at the view that awaits us... Likewise, they included this cushion that complements the sofa very well and that you can use to sit on. bend over or meditate. This was brought from Morocco. It's very comfortable. By the way, we have mentioned before how we are building a select community with which we will be sharing unpublished material. A little behind the scenes, and various dynamics to get to know each other better.
If you want to be part of it, don't forget to register at the link that we will leave you in the description below. Let's go outside. Welcome to the jungle (we have fun and games... right? no). This house has a purpose. Live life as if you were always on vacation. Crossing the jungle and passing through the pool to get to your room is part of the experience. Who wouldn't feel like they're on vacation being in an area like this? With these chairs, this hammock where you can relax and read a little, or with this grill to make the perfect barbecue.
Likewise, in this area they included this structure that we have here. It is a cistern, which was already part of the property. For those of you who don't know, cisterns are rainwater tanks that were formerly used to collect water and then use it for everyday things. On this occasion they decided to turn it into a bathroom. (Proceeds to make a joke in Spanish about the cisterns). Here they included this very simple but very efficient bathroom that services the entire pool area. We were told it was a total challenge to get it right. Going deeper into the jungle and further down this hallway, we finally reached the pool.
It was made of gray concrete with the intention of giving it those blue tones that simulate greater depth. As if we were in a cenote. Unlike other houses we have visited where they used lighter tones to give the water a turquoise color, as if it were from the Caribbean Ocean. You've probably already noticed this hammock behind me. Who says you can't hang a hammock between two walls with a space 8 meters wide? There you have it folks, no matter how far the distance is, your hammock will be sturdy. (Rhyme? I hope so...) This pool has the following measurements: It is 5 meters long (16 feet) and 3 meters wide (10 feet).
In the jungle, the person in charge of giving us shade is this banana here. We can already see how one of them is already bearing fruit. Did you know that once bananas bear fruit they die? They fulfill their purpose of giving us delicious bananas and then they are gone. Man, I love bananas. Are you banana? How about we check the bedrooms? In this bedroom we are welcomed by these hexagonal mosaics in which they included this beautiful print that gives a unique feeling to the entire space. This, complemented with this white concrete finish that we have on the walls.
Likewise, we have this majestic king size bed that is complemented by this parota wood frame that I loved. We had already seen a parota wood table but not a bed structure, it looks spectacular! Imagine waking up in this bed, with this view of the jungle where, thanks to the foliage, we have the privacy that every bedroom needs. And for those workaholics who go on vacation to work in a remote location. They also included this desk ideal for answering emails. Here in the back they built this small

patio

with the intention of giving it avisual respite to the bedroom, and also for better ventilation.
We see, once again, the use of gravel and abundant vegetation. They also included this shower head that makes me want to stand under it; I don't know if you've done it, but showering outdoors is liberating. Have you ever showered outdoors? Leave it in the comments below, and if you haven't, do so. If you're not exactly an outdoors person, they also included one in the bathroom. How about we take a look? Here we once again have the use of curtains to delimit spaces. This, with the intention of preventing the air conditioning from escaping. Here they included this wooden wardrobe/dressing room.
Here we see that they also included this white polished concrete plateau accompanied by these wooden touches that give it that feeling of elegance. On this side we have the shower and the most private part of the bathroom. They complemented the shower with those concrete lattices from there. They give this area the feeling of spaciousness it needs. How about we go see the third and final bedroom? Come on. It's amazing when you remember that we are still in the heart of downtown Mérida. It is not only thanks to the vegetation of this property but also that of the neighbor.
That is why we can create this tropical paradise that makes us feel as if we were really in the middle of the jungle. I loved! Let's take a look at the bedroom. This bedroom is very similar to the one we saw before, they included these mosaics and also used the same parota wood bed frame which looks amazing. My friends, imagine waking up to this wonderful view. It doesn't really feel like downtown Merida. In this bedroom they managed to have great ventilation thanks to those giant windows and the ones we have here too. We have this space over here where they put these concrete lattices to allow the wind to pass through, and it also connects the bedroom and the shower.
Let's take a look at the shower, it's interesting... They also included a closet/dressing room here, just a little smaller than the one in the previous bedroom. And again, the use of white polished concrete on the plateau and skylights on top, just like the rest of the property. And the famous shower, in addition to letting water fall from above, also allows us to shower practically outdoors. But don't worry, if you are not a lover of outdoor activities we have the possibility of closing this glass door that is hidden behind the wall. If you don't believe me, check it out.
Let's leave it open for now. Hey, if you are enjoying spaces like this with places that never cease to surprise, and that practically have an entire jungle inside... You can't miss this next video, I'm sure you'll love it. he. And until next time... behind the wall.
