game of thrones cast on whether they read the books...

I talk to a lot of people about them because apparently a lot of people have and it's interesting to have different points of view. characters and then of course we have David and Dan's words, so I just let it unfold. I like to be surprised, but I'm afraid. Now I'm going to die. Yeah, well, time to kill another Lannister. All my apologies to George and in that I am so in awe of this man um but uh I don't want to know what will happen to me in the future. I'm terrified and I don't want to play any kind of final. uh when I'm doing this show and I just live and breathe this show and I, uh, I get so embarrassed when I have to address you, yeah, do you know how often we get asked this question and I put up with it and then just say welcome, I'm coming too to ask who you're dating at some point, yeah, I can't subtract the show from the book either, so you know I'm that guy who has a hard time reading the book. after I see the movie because I'll just imagine Steven Dorf, you know, okay, sorry, if you could tell me what movie Stephen Dorf made that was based on a book.

I'm just interested in why you thought of Stephen Door is just the first actor that comes to mind and he comes to mind all the time. Now we're getting somewhere, yeah, oh, now we're getting somewhere. I would imagine my friends on the show and, uh, I'll do it. I'm going to read them when we look for my character to be killed now yes, I read the first four, not the last one, okay, I couldn't help it when I received part i and you know it's Based on the books I went, I read them very quickly, actually because I just wanted to know what happened to my character and then I got too far ahead of myself and I had to, you know, do it again and yeah, so I wrote, yeah, yeah, I read. per season, yes, and I must admit that I took a leaf out of Sophie's book and also looked up your character's title and then, of course, filled in the gaps in between.

Well, like with Maisie, my mother read the book and she did a great job. nice summary uh dan and david can you talk a little bit about which characters you found most general die? All of a sudden, um, which characters were hardest for you to choose and why, um, arya, yeah, arya, I would say we probably saw more of them. more people for arya and daenerys than for any other character i mean we must have seen how many 300 muslim arias and this was she was one of the ones we were there just no one was right no one there was a couple of a couple of kids who felt very actors and who felt like, you know,

they

've been through that child actor processing machine that produces talented people, but you know they're good at what child actors are.
Usually roles are

cast

that, you know, aren't as adult as this and just no one had that reality that we were looking for and one of the last faces we saw was Maisie's face in the

cast

, that's the name. of the program that you launch with the window, you know, it's a little window that big, we just saw that face that big and we said, please, be well, we were in a place to go to Morocco and we're in the hotel and we have very, very iffy internet connection and we're so you can click on the link for maisie's audition are you waiting you're looking at like the little line oh and we're just looking at this little thumbnail image of a face that looked so perfect and waiting and waiting and waiting and then it was probably literally 30 to 10 seconds after the audition we were like yeah she's the one and then we had a chemistry read actually with um with those two maizie and sophie got together and um and it was love at the beginning The view is where you met because I read a lot about you guys being great friends who met at the audition.
Yeah. I did my first audition which I guess they saw and then I did another audition meeting other girls who were playing. sansa um and I got along very, very well with Sophie and I just remember she was super tall and after everything we do she's like oh, you're so pretty and then I was like, yeah, I'm only a year younger than you, but um, yeah, we got along really, really well and I came out of the audition and told my mom that even if I don't get the part, I really want that girl too because she's really cool, so yeah, oh you.
You're really cute, Phil, just a year younger. Anyone else have an interesting casting story. Well, Jason Momoa came in and of his own volition, after doing his audition, he did the Maori haka, the Maori war dance that wasn't written into the scene. He actually didn't have anything to do with the scene, but I would say he impressed us, he did it, he did it a lot, he really did it, so yeah, it was another very difficult role to play in the past. His name was Drogo and, surprisingly, you had Peter in mind, yes, Peter, actually before I think the HBO deal was even done.
I sent you an email. I had met Peter before at a dinner or something and he ignored me. to my wife all night, but I remember thinking he's very smart, he's very funny, as you've seen tonight and, you know, when we thought we might have a chance to do this, but before we had the deal, because the deal. It took me a long time to get him to send them a note and that you had already heard about the books and the character, I think, and then we met and do you remember what you said? You had him in a lawsuit, he won the man said no, no. beer beards without long beards no more long beards.
I just never understood why in fantasy dwarves always don't offend Mr. Tolkien, but, and you know, I think he had just made the Narnia movie a couple of years before we met, so we had to do it. rewrite the whole script and still wear a beard tonight it's not up to my knees some of these hollywood beard the fact that the books existed before we started airing a show and had so many fans led to a phenomenon that a show that wasn't based on books, it wouldn't have been at the time the show was announced, I started receiving tapes, pictures, links to YouTube performances of the main characters from aspiring actors from literally all over the world and of course Of course, I'm in Santa Fe.
New Mexico. I was giving my opinion on some of the chosen auditions, but I was not at the casting session. I just sent all of this to Dan and David. Here's another one that appeared on YouTube, some of them didn't. kind of bad, but some of them were terribly bad and terribly inappropriate according to the characters as described in the books, but you know, but I mean it's sincere, I don't want you to know too ridiculous, I know there are people out there. with dreams and all that uh but uh it's not really the way you can't get cast in a major tv show by uploading it to youtube and asking fans to campaign for you or dismissing the fact that you were in a play from school and here's a photo of your performance as Othello or something.
Well, we're running out of time, but I wanted to ask something that I'm sure everyone here is really wondering where, where are you? the how close are you series well, I'm writing book six, the winds of winter, and of course I'm starting to worry because everyone's asking me what you're going to do if david, dan, and the show catch up to you. You, uh, which is starting to scare me. I didn't think it was a problem before, but they are moving faster than me. I have a. I haven't stopped noticing this. Sometimes I feel like I am. laying tracks for a railroad and I can hear the locomotive coming this way and it's picking up speed and I see the smoke and I hear the whistle and I better keep laying that track pretty fast here because I'll get crushed if the locomotive comes but I still have a considerable lead in less that's what I'm telling myself season three is the first just the first half of book three so season four will be the second half of book three and then I have book four and book five uh those are books behemoths that have to be recombined because they're actually parallel, but I'm hoping for at least two seasons, maybe three, to give me some time to finish book six and for when they arrive.
That's it, they'll do that season and I'll write book seven, that's my story and I'm sticking to it on that note that will conclude our evening, so let's leave it one more time for the duration.
