Auf 23 Fuß Rund Ostsee (Nebel, Sturm, Russische Kriegsschiffe und Tornado)

Apr 23, 2024
I would like to tell you about my summer, how it became one of the most beautiful but also most demanding moments: you can never have one without the other. Two years ago I learned to sail a boat. This summer I had to do it. Going to the Baltic Sea with my own boat I had almost no open water sailing experience and the first two weeks were the transfer of the sailboat from IJsselmeer to Kiel, which gave me an incredible experience in a very short time, but at the same time, it was one of the most exhausting stages of the trip with tides and cold, so today we will leave for Borkum in the middle of the night so we can have all the currents.

Unfortunately, it is very weak and now we have. We sailed all night and then decided why we wouldn't have made it to Norderney under sail and we would have had to pull the engine to do so. We will sail to Wangerooge and extend it by 12 hours. Initially we will have a little time. current against us, so that when we enter the Elbe we can take as much current as possible, but when we reach the Baltic Sea we are no longer tied to the tides or any lock openings. The spring in advance took a lot out of me and I realized how demanding these first 14 days really were.

More Interesting Facts About,

The first destination was the Danish South Sea, facilitating the stage in the North Sea, and the beauty of nature there was also the absolute first sensation of my trip. There is a dolphin. , I think you should be able to see it pretty well. We are now passing through Mars Tal and immediately turn left and then pass through the entrance to the Danish South Sea. We expect quite a bit of wind again, so probably. We are still three weak, but at least it is more than advertised. We are also going 4.5 knots. A very pleasant evening is coming to an end.

I'm just waiting for the last bits. The wood has burned and then. We return with them to the ship. We have now reached the top of Langeland, which means that the Danish South Sea is now slowly behind us. Now we cross the big world towards the small water and then head east in the direction. from Sweden, unfortunately the next few days there was a bit of wind, which you can probably see from my mood, so today it probably won't be the big picture, the wind has already completely calmed down and even completely turned into our against and then with us Two knots here I crossed as you can see and now I looked with wind and look at it until 7 p.m.

It's exactly where I sail so a blue circle there's no wind at all so I'm going to enter the port here now. Look to you. This is very nice, very nice, we are still going 1.3 knots, so we will be there tomorrow at 6am. m. Well, we'll take a look, maybe there's something else the GoPro has. I decided to do it now here in the last meters. That's why I'm going to strike again with my cell phone, this is behind, then we'll anchor, we're still going at 0.3 knots, we're getting closer. the Storchströms Bridge, so in terms of sailing, there was a little less wind again, but fortunately it was back.
We've moved back a bit and I think we've covered 23 nautical miles so far. Here again in Rottwick. Today we are heading to Sweden. Since the southern coast of Sweden is relatively the same and there is a lot of industry, I skipped a large part of this coast in a larger stage and then came directly to. The H0 bay to the first Swedish scissors and then reaching for these scissors made me feel so much better. At this point we leave the first Swedish scissors behind and continue north to Kalmarsson, it is the section between Ölland and Sweden and there is usually one here.
Relatively calm sea, except when the wind blows from above or from below, then you can have a somewhat uncomfortable and rough sea because it runs a bit like a funnel and then there are the waves that sometimes become very compressed and then shorten. and higher up, the mosquitoes come when there is no more wind, but the wind is supposed to come again in the next hour from a different direction, so the wind is probably changing now, I will be patient, the wind is coming again. We finally reached Kalmar, the first largest city from the Kielfjord. Yes, it was a very long route without civilization and it was very good to have some contact with people again, which is what I really did that day.
I met two nice neighbors from the pier on a boat and met them again and again over the next few weeks so that we would meet again in different ports along the Swedish coast and so on. I'm going to Borgholm because the wind is also quite against it, which means there will be a lot of crossing today, probably the wind is still so strong against it that not even the engine can cross. Now I have to cross here against. street with the mainsail support, that's a sporting start again, yes. Now we are in the area where we can actually sail properly, the engine is now off and let's see what kind of angle we can run here with the wind, I don't know.
You know, somehow I have the feeling that it's a little drafty here, but you'll see that it's pretty good today, the coffee very fast. I put all the rubber on and it gets quite wet, but yes and you. Her husband understands it. After some stormy stages you are already in the north of Öland. From here you have to cross the Baltic Sea. Stopping in Gotland, on the way to Gotland, just before Whiskey the fog became increasingly thick. and thicker until I ended up in quite thick soup and that right in front of the capital of Gotland on the streets it was really not a pleasant experience: a fast ferry passed me under a nautical mile and I didn't actually see it for Cinco Seconds before I saw the one next to me, so it was a bit of a scary experience.
Later they also told me that the ferries are relatively cheap. You can easily see it on your radar if you put up a radar reflector, which I had. In this case, today is also the perfect opportunity to drink the last can of Heineken. Unfortunately the weather isn't good today, but I'll take one anyway, spend some time in the city and take you guys. I, so maybe it's not so easy to guess right now, but I completely underestimated Gotland. I really only saw Gotland as a destination as a stopover to get to Estonia, but Gotland was incredibly beautiful and I, um, don't.
I don't know why I found it so beautiful, maybe because I wasn't expecting it, but look at the photos for yourself, it was incredibly beautiful. I was glad to spend a few more days there than planned. With success, let's go out here. Then today's stage begins. I think the coastal section here on Gotland is very impressive, so it's definitely worth a look here. Well, finally it was time for the jump over the Baltic Sea. 24 hours Finally, Estonia came into view and there, in the port, I somehow realized that I was the only one in the port, which I actually encountered more often in other ports and that I was often one of the few who traveled there. , so that was again a very lonely part, especially the route from Sarema to Tallinn just made the route which helped not very pleasant, the distances between the ports were very long and I actually drove the route from the westernmost one.
From Sarema to Tallinn in ten days I still have a few days to spare because my sister will be in Helsinki and now I have earned the time to look around for a few days and I am back doing a bulk purchase. It was the stupidest decision. Definitely the watermelon because it weighs almost 5 kilos and I have to carry it here. It wasn't that easy. I went for a short walk to the harbor dock and looked. Sunset, beautiful, then ran over the Gulf of Finland and picking up my sister after Helsinki was also very nice. I think that without the stages in which friends and family sailed with me I would not have been able to last all the time alone.
There was still a moment of trepidation during the crossing. Anyway, I saw a rather fat Russian frigate passing by, so I knew because they were talking to other ships on the shipping route via a VHF point, not necessarily very nice. Yes, and after looking at Helsinki for a few days, it happened. Then also in the first stage. It was, of course, one of the hardest stages of the two weeks that my sister was there as an introductory stage, but still, it really was. Pretty well we made it to the end without any damage or anything. Now we are here in front of a port.
Now I tried again to go to another place where the back deck was, but it was an absolute failure because the wave was running exactly in that direction. , it was almost impossible to fix it somehow. Once we got it fixed we decided we had to restart real quick because it didn't work at all and as I was pulling out I put the gas back into the engine. then the engine stopped meaning I quickly hoisted the big sail again and then fortunately we were able to save it quite well. I sailed a little bit first and then figured it out relatively quickly and started the engine again, but these are really things you need in this kind of wind.
Today we took a short hike and went swimming here for the first time, which worked out really well this year, We reached the goal of our hike, but there are many mosquitoes here. which means I'm going to fast forward here and see that we get there and hope there aren't as many mosquitoes up there. Now that we are at the top of the tower, the weather is no longer optimal, but there is still a. Nice view, yes, and then we move on to the next stages. Unfortunately, we had to go upwind a lot, due to the westerly wind situation in the summer months.
On the Baltic Sea, it can be reached very easily in one direction. and relax with a tailwind in the other direction, then unfortunately only into the wind, but that's how it is, so at some point you just have to go through it and come back, so we covered a lot more distance and made no progress. as fast as we really wanted, but the result is that you learn to cross very precisely because all the scissor streets and such don't give you much room for error and, in any case, the next stone will definitely come if you don't get it right. the walls in time yes and the time with my sister passed very quickly again 14 days to Toko, so to speak, right on the Finnish side of the Baltic Sea yes and from there it came back again and in Stockholm my girlfriend would come Aboard with me and in the middle is just the Orlands, so initially I was just intending to use the Orlands as, well, an intermediate destination and actually try to get through them quickly, but as soon as I was in the first real zone.
Orlands, it worked for me. I also did it immediately and realized that you definitely need to spend more time here and, above all, summer has only really arrived in the north, it was almost the beginning of July, yes, that. It was really extreme, I didn't really have summer until July. I always went with a jacket and everything, so here in Kühlka there are really beautiful hiking trails, it's really super, super nice, you always get to such high elevations where I have a view, it's really nice, it didn't really exist in Finland because it has everything .
I've tried anchoring the stern here twice and hit a rock each time, but very, very slowly, so there's really no danger. I tried to anchor here once and the anchor won't hold either, so I'll take that as a sign and keep driving, so there's no question why it didn't work there, of course, because this is a much better place. place, no, the place is actually not 100% protected from the direction of the wind, which may start tomorrow in the early hours of the morning, but I do it. Anyway I docked here because I wanted to know if it would work and on the map it showed a depth of 10 meters to the edge.
I said I had already hit two stones, why should I add a third? No, but it actually worked. In retrospect, I would also say that the Orlands were the. The highlight of this trip, but here I also had to move slowly at some point to finally reach Stockholm and then be back on the Swedish mainland. And now, not far from Stockholm, there are two more stops in Haven, but then We are in Stockholm. Before we get there, a very heavy downpour is coming, I hope it doesn't affect us, as you can see. Of course it really affected us, boy, after the downpour yesterday I had so much going on that I couldn't film anymore, but my girlfriend is here now.
Today we are going to see Stockholm. It was quite a disaster here in the port. Concern: I had reserved a space in advance, but somehow they rebuilt the port and moved the space to another location so I could go through the entire port first, then the space was so poorly marked that someone else was already in my space and now I'm in IKEA in Stockholm to buy a new rinse box, so some replacement was definitely found. Finally the box, which is only held together with tape, can work. again here in Stockholm We are now almost back in Kalmarsund in Westerwieck, so we will soon be able to help you again where you have already been in an area you already know, so now you have arrived at the latest.
On the way back to Calmasand we had a pretty good summer, but unfortunately there was also a lot of headwind, which made the days very tiring at times. Now that I've arrived, the mooring worked pretty well with the tail buoy. I made a small mistake of pride and thoughtusing the short line as well, it seems like it will work, and I don't feel like taking out the long line at all, of course. There was also exactly half a meter. little line, luckily there was someone here at the jetty who was able to take one line off us so we had enough room to tie a second line to it, so everything went well and now we are at the end of the line again.
Kalmarsund So now the way back would be to Bornholm and from Bornholm to Rügen or Stralsund, then we are almost in Stralsund and then back in Germany, then the trip is officially over. I left the ship and it's back to me. I drove it home and then I wanted to sell the boat. A few weeks later I sold it again and then I wanted to sail the boat to Lübeck and I actually experienced quite a bit during the trip so that's what I really wanted. That happened near Rostock. I wanted to do a stage from Stralsund to Rostock and then from Rostock to Lübeck and well, I went out to the Baltic Sea in front of Rügen and that was in the middle of the night, so it was good.
The thing is opposite Rostock, then five nautical miles from Rostock. I see an extremely thick storm cloud in the sky and yes, Rostock was behind it. I wanted to go to Rostock and make a stopover there. I thought so, five nautical miles, the cloud. It really wasn't easy to get around it, it was pretty firmly stuck in one place and then I just went in. Well, now in the cloud itself there wasn't much of a problem, only when I was within a few nautical miles of it. the cloud that I saw Suddenly a log forms from this cloud behind me and a

tornado

actually forms directly behind me and it was really an experience that I thought about and what would have happened if you had been in that place one hour later at that time it would have been or then the probability would have been relatively high that it would have still been under this cloud or something, so that was really again, so somehow you don't expect to suddenly encounter a

tornado

in the sea or something like that. like this after a waterspout Yes, I was very happy when I arrived in Rostock.
I didn't really film the crossing into Lübeck, I just took a photo of the windpipe because I thought no one would believe me if I told you. Yes, that was the story of my summer of sailing. I felt very alive during this time. There were incredible highs and incredible lows, but it doesn't really seem like you can have one without the other, so always. At some point you will have to go through the Valley of Tears if you want to be on the mountain on the other side again, but I don't think I would do a trip like that alone again, but rather make sure that there is always someone with you, because what bothered me the most It was that then you had incredibly beautiful moments, but in Orlands, for example, you had no one to share them with.
Afterwards you have no one to talk to about how great the comeback was. so, everything was just in your head and only for you, and that's how it's not bad, but somehow it's better if you can easily connect with people through it. Yes, that was the video, thanks for watching. Are you interested, subscribe and see you next time.
