Apr 02, 2024
Hi everyone, it's Ali with another video on how to make

card

s. This time I'm making a

card

with a

distress

ed ink

background

and I've used a stencil on top to remove some of the color with a

baby

wipe, so this is for moms. Card of the day I made with this technique and you can see I used

distress

ed inks to make the

background

and then I placed the stencil on top and I used a

baby

wipe to remove some of the color and it gives it a really nice effect so I just started with a piece of your favorite white cardstock.

I use a 250 white cardstock, nice and thick, but any of your favorite cardstock is fine to use and then start by using my range and distressed inks. I have used our peacock. mermaid lagoon pens and withered violet and I just keep my little sponges for my distressed inks under the container there and it's nice that you can select the little sponge with your tool like this so start by building up the color on the paper randomly. across the card in a circular motion slightly, it doesn't matter if you get some marks and stuff like that or it's not even complete application because as you increase the color they tend to disappear anyway, there are marks and you can mix the colors . building them up more and more so they alternate between the colors, building them up on that card gradually and going back and forth between the colors and then gradually they'll get darker and darker and then once you're happy with the coverage. so it's time to get the template that I'm using today it's a dusty attic template and it's three to three and I'm going to place it on my background card and then I'm going to secure it with some microporous tape which is just masking tape that you can get at the pharmacy.

I'll get it here at my local drugstore and it's just low tack tape so it doesn't tear the paper or anything when you take it off it just keeps the stencil from sliding when I'm pressing on it and then you take a new baby wipe and you start pressing it on the stencil to remove some of that distressing color. I'm pressing pretty firmly and I'm only getting a little bit of moisture from that baby wipe. Through the paper underneath, simply press until you are happy with the amount of color that has been removed. Please note that once you have dried it, it will become lighter, so you may want to take it off before you arrive. the point where it is where you want it and we will see here.

I use my heat tool just to dry it out a little bit and as I do that it gets a lot whiter or lighter with the heat tool so I'm just going to finish it off. Drying it with my heat tool and pretty happy with how it looks now, so now it's time to secure this base to the front of the card, so I'm just going to take a white card and fold it and make creases with my bone scorer and I'm just going to measure my card base and make sure it fits well on the front of my card, remove the pieces I need to cut with my pins and then use my cutter to cut them out and then I just need to use double sided tape to secure it to the front of my card and just press it down lightly to secure it to the front of the card and now it's time to add the sentiments to the front of the card and I'm using some dyes and decorative rims, Kaiser craft dyes called uppercase alphabet and not I have so many stamp sets or word sets for Mother's Day, so I tend to use these individual letter dyes to make my mom cards, the reason is that most of the spelling in the stamp sets which you can buy for Mother's Day in Mom, which is obviously the American spelling, and here in Australia and I blame the UK, it's usually spelled Mom, so I can't often use the step sets that are available for on Mother's Day because of that spelling difference, so I only use individual letters.

I cut them out of silver card with my Big Shot and then I'll place them on the card where I think they should go. To get an idea of where it looks good, I'm using a piece of acetate that I've divided into thirds vertically and horizontally and it's like the rule of thirds, it helps you place things on the front of your card so it looks good . balanced and nice to look at and I've been using it quite frequently to place my embellishments and my lettering on my cards, so I'll get that position right and where I'm happy with it and then I'll stick my letters to the card with my glue multi-medium matte and a precision tip that I bought separately and put this glue on, it's really great for sticking fine letters and small embellishments on the front of your card, so once you have those letters adhered and I'm happy with the position of those, I glued them all together, then I need to stamp my little sentiment underneath and to do this I'm using a Simon Says stamp set and some of the words from that set, I find that when I'm stamping very small stamps or intricate letters, and using my Misti It really helps to get a good print and prevents it from smearing or not printing evenly.
No one had the Misti for a while, but it's one of the coolest tools I own and I only have the mini Misti just because of the price for me, but I know there are a couple of other tools available now that are a little bigger than the minimis D and they are not that expensive, so I would recommend that you look at them. to them because I've really improved my stamping and my images by just using a Versafine ink to place the words and stamp them and then I'm just going to cut out. I've only used one piece of chamois so it was a car chamois that I cut into four pieces and an ultra clean cleaner as well and I keep my show me in a Heinz Baby Basics it's like a snack container and it just keeps us from taking me out and it can stay on it all day. and it stays moist so that's really good too and this is the Simon Says stamp set I'm using.
I'm saving those words now. I'm going to cut this feeling out. I like to do the little sentiments with my scalpel I just find it very difficult to put them right into the cutter so I usually use a scalpel for my hoods or my sentiments that are in little sections and I just trim the end off with my scissors and then just go to secure this under my mom's letters and I'm going to lift it up with some 3D foam glued to the back just to give it a little bit of dimension and that's the finished card so I hope you enjoyed my video and that.
Do you have any tips or suggestions and it's a pretty easy technique so give it a try or the last thing I wanted to show you is that I always put an inside on my cards just to finish them in case If I have a colored card base it's hard to write inside and often you can't see the writing, so I just put in a piece of regular printer paper cut to the right size to fit inside my card and then just put in a double piece of paper. side tape on the front to stick to the front of the card, so when you open the card, the inside opens up and you see what we've written.
I think that finishes off the card nicely and gives you a white base. Basically for writing, so always do that with my cards, so thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed it and try this technique and leave comments if you want too. I would love feedback as I just started. making videos
