More than 870 berms and 44 slopes. This is a place you should put on your hit list for a summer mountain bike vacation. I would like to acknowledge that we are gathered here today in the dislocated territory of the Okanogan silk towns and what beautiful land we find ourselves in for a day of mountain bike competition. What discipline you ask well if we don't ruin it with that? Beautiful overhead shot right there, it's all about

today honey, we have a lot of points at stake and we've been doing so many calculations the last few days it's crazy, the best van steen bergen leading the charge in the king titles for the Vioverbeak men lead the charge for the title of queen for the women and many are looking to rack up points for those monkeys and all that money at stake, but mostly everyone is having fun removing the chains from their bikes and riding the cam of my name McCall I.

race today and I'm lucky enough to be joined by my friend here elliott jackson elliot what's up? Oh my gosh, it's cold, it's a cold pump track day, but I'm I'm so excited to watch the races. I've been watching the workouts right behind us and they're all going super fast. I love it, yes. You know, it feels good to be competing again because we've been traveling and we've been participating a lot. but we haven't been doing as many broadcasts as we would have liked because the weather was so bad, but we had a great time playing horseback riding.

We were supposed to have a Swedish-style event, but the clouds just decided to dump rain. everything, but we took advantage of that beautiful kicking horse ride by making a pretty epic jump. We have to thank steve crow and the kicking horse bike park trail team for building that course and allowing the riders to session on the Of course, we're watching that on the screen right now Elliot, oh my goodness, it's so nice to see George and Tohono rubbing everyone just having a good time riding with your friends doing sessions doing tricks having fun no matter what if there's running oh god so gnarly they were they were trying to get as close as possible.

They love the old school heel clicker. Star trail solutions built that awesome kicker ramp and, uh, that's actually going to be donated. Now there will be cyclists in Golden BC who can enjoy it. those ramps, but we're enjoying the footage of that little jam session right there, it's like some synchronized swimming style mountain biking, yeah, totally, I feel like it's like when you're a kid, okay, I'll follow you how close? Can I get and then you know you hit someone's tire? Low but it's all in the name of fun. There was more to kicking the horse than just the jump of course, I think I did about twelve thousand feet of vertical descent and someone who didn't waste any time kicking a horse was Tekken Cruise, let's take a look at how Teagan enjoyed her time kicking by horse.
Some people think that Canada is like really big mountains and that's basically what's here for you. Quite an amazing trip between Revelstoke and Golden. super steep mountains on both sides and all the little avalanche trails you see along the way are quite beautiful, no doubt most people here just live here because they love the mountains and love to ski or snowboard in the winter and riding a bike on the In the summer when I first loaded the gondola on the kick horse, we keep going up and then you get off and you're like you're way up and like you've passed the level of the tree, it's cool, just before falling to the top, you might like it.
Go so far and all the mountains around you and then you get to the bottom and you look up and you realize how far you actually went to the tops, more shale rocks and some pretty tough driving and then you get into more like rolls of soft rocks. of cool things to see like wooden bridges weaving across all the big boulder fields and some unique features as you go down, it's more like nice dirt, more bike park stuff they are expanding with more, like more beginner rides and just fun family trails. mom and brother went out and rode some of the quieter trails here and said it was a blast, beautiful and fun, definitely a cool scene here, we'll see Tegan Cruz here today, she was the number five qualifier in the pump track race , so he reached the round of 16.
He made it to the last 16 which is great but the pump track wasn't the first race we did here at Silver Star yesterday, it was a muddy mess but an epic race in the specialist dual slalom. silver star, I mean, looking at some of the photos that came out of yesterday's race, I couldn't believe it was actually possible to hold the race, but let's look at the muddy mess that was yesterday in the double slalom. Welcome, about to return. the men's and women's round of 16, stop number three on the frankfurt bc tour here at

, conditions are definitely going to play a role but these guys are sending it off for sure, better, just had a small spill in the second race , all good, yes. but I think in this weather I probably kept the mistakes to a minimum and I think that's what got me to the final and then when you go up against someone like Bass in a slalom race you just have to give it your all. everything you can on the track and the brakes didn't really work because it was so full of mud from the shuttle so I got to the first turn and I had to sink or swim and I kept committing and it kept going around so it worked so keolani heinz was able to get the most points in that slalom race yesterday, add to her overall tally, she is in third place in the queens rankings right now, she is also the number one qualifier for today's pump track race , elliot, yes.
She looked great in practice. I love seeing the different starting techniques. This will be one of the key things. They all have different styles. You'll see some people jump, some people lunge, some people use the brakes, some people don't. she's got it down, she's been practicing a lot, so I think that was one of the things that really put her in the lead today, put her at the top of the qualifying leaderboard right now, let's take a look at those stands you see , Keolani Hines. there with the number one next to it or your name to the bottom, the number two next to your name through Verbeek, who leads the queen overall, so today we see you in a collision chorus, what are some of the other playoffs you are watching? for maybe some surprises, yeah, potentially, I mean, you know Harriet's been watching or I'm sorry riding so well, she really enjoys mountain biking.
We saw her do so well in slalom even though it is muddy and she has normally been a bmx rider so I think she will surely be one to watch, Casey Brown and Harriet Burbidge Smith, qualifiers three and six, who also They're going to be a big heat, but the way we do it here at Pump Track is we start with that number one qualifier and all the pressure. When you qualify first you feel like it's yours to lose, right? Yes, sure, and you have an easier path. You know that if you go, if you qualify first, you will go against the air conditioning.
It should be an easy round for you. but we see many times that a single mistake, especially on the pump track, can cause you to be left out of the group. Well, it looks like we have our runners loaded at the door to kick off the pump track festivities for the day that this is. rock crashes pump track

silver star stop number three on this amazing BC road trip we've been on at the end of summer it feels like fall has largely taken over the mountain resort Silver Star, what happened or winter, yeah? It feels like winter, you have to fight with everything in your power.
I think today it's going to be fun to try to break down some of those different starting strategies that are out there because it's not an easy task to get that bike moving without a chain and the door isn't on that steep hill. You see Keolani cross the finish line first and race number one in heat one against Kylie Stewart. Let's take a look at some free plays in slow motion. Full speed repetition. No, that's slow motion, just waiting, but. This track right there, which is going to be one of the crucial points of this track, is that those two corners really want to win early in those corners, back to the opening series, race number two, number one loaded in the gate, the young.
Gracie Hem Street takes on New Zealand's Robin Goombs and looks like she has a slight lead through the slightly slower line, so the last right turn is super wet, it's been in the shade, uh, and it rained a little. So they were actually trying to, what is the torch? It burns the dirt dry, so I think it's gotten a little faster, but you'll definitely see people wasting time on that last berm on the right side of the cyclist. artificial sun in the shape of a tiger torch so interesting bike setups for pump track a very important part of the puzzle is what tires you choose and how much air you choose to put in those tires, let's take a look at our maxis kia ora tire check my name is hello , I'm keolani heinz, hey, I'm Hazard, hey, I'm the bassist Stevenbergen and this is the girl on my side of Max, obviously, for pump track, we're running dirt jumpers that are a 26 inch tire and I'm running the dth.
I'm using the dth front and rear, just super slick tires for a super fast pump track, turn them up as high as I can for this one, I think it looks pretty grippy. Always move the tan walls if you can on the front we have. the pace uh is 2.1 with 55 psi and then in the rear we have the dth is 2.15 with 65 psi so we run these really solid to get the highest rolling speed possible. I'll be running with the holy rollers in front. and the rear I think around 35 maybe to 50 psi depends yeah they are all pretty fast I think they have pretty good grip but I think this time I'm just looking for speed the track looks bad and fast so yeah , thank you.
That's my maximum tire review. Harriet says you have to run those tan walls if you can of course for cool factor we see Harriet there choosing to run that dth on the dth in the front with 50 psi in the back let's put 60 psi in that dth. Everything will go fast, yes, and compared to the downhill, we were talking about how men and women have different tire pressures, but here it seems more or less the same. I was wondering if she was going to put in a seat. I thought she didn't have a seat. the chainless tire track no extra points for how many parts you can remove from your bike here on the pump track okay harriet burbridge smith taking on casey brown harriet third place casey sixth casey has a lot of experience writing his joke contracts but you have harriet who has bmx experience looking for her to make up a lot of time with these rollers good manuals so a big race here for harriet and casey harriet breaking the d area crossing the line point one ahead of casey brown so a pretty close fight of course Casey Brown is really looking to reduce those 132 points between her, Via Verbeek and the overall queen so she really wants to get over this Elliot round yeah and this is the turn which we were talking about. to slow down a little bit there, you can see how hard he has to work from the starting gate, you can do it manually and then compared to Casey on the left side of this rider, there's a lot more speed there, that's just for the track, um, so it's going to be something that you're going to have to mentally prepare yourself for as a racer, so here we see on the doorstep someone who we've been talking a lot about all season leading the crank queen's overall points in the which has been absolutely destroyed until now.
On this road trip to BC, he has three wins, two 4ths, cleaned up at Sun Peaks, and won every event. She got fourth in Psychosis, which is the craziest downhill race on the planet, with times around 14 15 minutes, and fourth in slalom last night, so she has 132 points. at the head of queen of crank works casey brown is in second place kelani heinz in third place and wowshe's also your number two qualifier here on the

i wish i had so many podium photos in my life she has like an entire Instagram profile full of podium photos so live for Peak on the left side from your screen facing Amy Ertel, two Canadians face to face.
You see Vaya doing the lunge there, not the jump, so she's really trying to make sure she doesn't do it. You won't ruin your speed by pulling the bars back, but as a top qualifier you're really just trying to make sure you don't make any mistakes, don't do anything that could jeopardize your chances, try to save some energy for these rounds. later, your qualifier number two, point three ahead of Amy Ortel, your qualifier number seven, I wanted to pedal, yeah, it has to be difficult, I mean, she's done all these races that we talked about about the seven finishes she's had so far in the last ten days. and for all those other races there is a chain on the bike, yeah, totally, I mean, compared to a slalom, right, it's totally opposite, you're at the same door here. in the crank works and you have to fight the temptation not to take this huge crank, there we are going to run those in the book here for a round of eight in our women's field, the

rockshox

pump track silver star challenge, our advantages have been determined. i got heinz on stuart goombs on hem street berber smith on brown but not much and verbik on irtel yeah it's definitely shaping up I mean these eight women are super fast we've seen them all week they have amazing finishes so I think that no matter which racket we look at, it will be the closest matchup we see.
Point one arrives. It will be interesting to see that we have had in the history of Crank Works Pump Track so many really close races and it is always fun to see what may be the closest race of the day and now we are going to move things on to the men's round of 16, our first series It's loaded at the door and if you're curious how we find ourselves here about a 16. Summary, let's take a look at we have our guy at the door right now, Niels Bensink, who was the number one qualifier, would face to Forest Ricego in the round of 16.
He already had more than a second lead and, as we talked about that, The pressure is to be the number one qualifier, you don't want to be eliminated in the round of 16, so try to let the benzene do its job, no, yes, sure, I mean, I was sitting on the side of the track and it's just beautiful to watch him ride. it seems like he's just floating around the track when it comes to these bracketed race formats we look up we look down down he's going to be our number two qualifier setting the collision course bassman steenberg and he qualified second he was up against dylan crane in the round of 16 now dylan crane qualified four seconds slower than bass van steenbergen and thought this was going to be tough, we see race number two right here where bass van steenbergen already had a lead and dylan crane more or less putting on a show for the crowd in race number one, you see, he goes, I don't really have the speed to ride the bass, so I'm going to put on a show for the small crowd here, imagine if you're the bass and you like it.
You see out of the corner of your eye someone batting backwards and you're like, "Oh, that guy had a big accident and he's coming in as a backup to Dylan for keeping us all entertained and someone we can always count on to keep us going." entertaining here at the crankworx festival, he's been appearing at every event since 2003. I'm talking about Mikey Hattera, would he be Crankberg if Mikey hadn't put on a speedo at some point? Man, he's multi-talented. designer guy, you know he's been around forever. It's great to see, yes we talked about the fact that it's not a warm day here, no, no, I was in the pool, very good aerodynamics, although Mikey almost in the round of eight, but it wasn't.
This is who made it to the round of eight, Elliot, yeah, and one of the people I think is really interesting is Garrett Meacham. He said he loves racing and maybe he wants to give it a little more attention. He's going to do downhills and stuff like that for next year and try to get this king title. Garrett Meacham is so well-rounded that we saw him competing in slopestyle in Innsbruck. He's been doing really well in the races all week, so let's see. if he can take on hodo once series number three comes around but now it's all about this story here jackson frew he's got a couple of wins in the last 10 days he won the downhill at sun peaks and look how niles comes out guy does a jump in the rhythm section and then a third jump on that reel, so jackson moves into second place in overall king points right now, but he'll have to overtake number one qualifier niels bensink and jackson, that's one of the things we're looking for was a little bit low on the turn, so the lower you go, if you come out of that turn a little bit late on that turn, it's a little bit uphill and that's where we talk about how challenging it is. is.
It could be riding Jackson's bike of choice here too. Let's see in our slow motion

replay

s what he's putting together. Yes, you can see the rear suspension and you want one of the reasons why riders use such high tire pressures. it needs to be really straight to the ground, so I think we've all pedaled around a bike where the shocks aren't locked and all that energy goes to the suspension, which is the same thing that happens when you're pumping the bike, uh, hardtail bikes son It will be much nicer to see him a little bit down on that berm and then go next to that post.
I will say that you have to give Jackson Free credit for realizing that he is second in points when deciding on a race track. He normally he can't decide that, but. She qualified 8th so hopefully I can make up for Lisa's 8th place points, but Keegan Wright is someone we always talk about when it comes to the Rockshox Pump Track Challenge, of course he's the Kiwi we saw burst onto the scene at the your house event. at Rotorua 2017, do you remember this Elliot, oh my god, look at that, I just remember he was going so fast like he was as aggressive here as me, how do you keep going like this?
How do you do this against Ron, who is just a pump? The machine is a small mistake in case we forgot now that we are in the pandemic era, this is what a hometown of crowds looks like. Oh, I can't wait until we can get back to it and recover, but the rotor is a real crowd. He's always supported Keegan Wright and I'm sure we've got a lot of them tuned in right now watching him here with the silver star cheering him on Keegan Wright, the number four qualifier, check out his tire setup, Ellie, and by that's running. those fiery ones I'm going to have a little more bumps I have to make a trade off between I want traction or I want speed because the track is a little bit wetter maybe you want some traffic what's up with that right hand? berm at the end of the field right there maybe you want that arden here we go keegan of course, taking on tegan cruz oh keegan is just a master at these outings they're doing it for so long we see tegan come back and he actually overcame that weak spot on that one berm on the right, he was able to recover a lot of time during that race, he played very good defense, right now point four separates him from Keegan, right taken and Keegan, only one can go to the round of four.
Keegan has the 4th qualifier lead on the 5th qualifier so we expect this one to be tight let's take a look at how tight it was yeah tiga I mean sorry Keegan doing a little snake there to try to get a little bit of speed and the whole bike weaves as much as possible on flat ground and this is what we're seeing here, you can see that Tegan actually made up a little bit of time on that right hander and Look at this, you can say they're basically one roller away right now, sometimes we talk about bike lengths going apart, but right now it's exactly one roller away, so that comes down to what point three was, yeah , and it really shows you how little you know the space point three is the length of the bike more or less it's a quick little sneeze sneeze point three of a second we'll take it back to the top of the ride right now left side of your toho screen enrique Going up against the man we were talking about earlier, sixth place finisher Garrett Meacham, who comes from that jumping experience, but is no slouch in racing either, so here we go, Toho is one of those guys who It's so smooth it looks like it's kind of floating.
It also left its mark on the Rotorua bomb track, but it's been a downhill specialist this year and, oh, a little mistake from Garrett, come on, red, you still have the advantage, de done by making up time in the last straight on those. rollers, shows you how good little red is, I mean Garrett, aka red, I think there were a couple of mistakes in that race, but he was still able to pass him and cross the finish line in front of Tohoto, like this who tried it. I was probably trying to cut that as close as possible, but as soon as you do that, one of the things that also happens is it's a lot smoother there, but then I just nailed that last straight, I made up a lot of time on Tohoto, he's the one. big red, now look at this again, the race results came to the Crank Works world tour, so Garrett Meacham has the lead over Hodo Ariki and we're back on top.
Of course, there's your number two ranked leader in King of Crank, overall points right now, Bass Van Steenberg, and there's your tired pick, Elliott, yeah, and I see they're all around that 55 65 mark, smart , although it has a few more knobs on the front than the Puts back so much speed on that rear tire and the big truck Steve Burgin takes on Braden Barrett Hey guy we used to see on the Crank Works world tour, have you seen him race the slope style before tire strike, I think we could see it. that later, but he's talking to the bass and I was just saying that compared to a lot of pump tracks, this pump track is all about the turns, it's very important to make the right turns, it's very important to be smooth and you can See when you do it.
It's just like you just did, how much time you can get back. Braden comes from Ontario and lives in Vernon these days. I love him in British Columbia. It's great to see it working again. Look at this aerial view. Elliott. Yes and you. You're really trying to gain speed on these rollers and then trying not to lose speed on the berms. One of the things to keep in mind is that you are going too low and on a berm, then you will lose traction and slide. A little bit, if you go too high, then you won't be able to get that good pump.
It's like going through a longer transition, so there's a sweet spot right in the middle where you can pump and not lose speed, so basman. I've seen Burnbergen doing his thing, that's what our stands look like, yeah man, that's what it is. I think we actually saw a lot more mistakes in men than in women and I really think it's a lot just because you have to. Push yourself hard on these pump track races and, you know, a little wet, a little gnarly, a little cold, it's definitely one of those races where you're at the end of the week, I think everyone's a little tired, i have been traveling and slaloming and downhilling and suffering from psychosis so one competitor we haven't seen on our list here today and definitely miss is georgia astle georgia with a bit of an injury at the moment but i gotta say we love riding . and just hanging out in this region because I know you live in BC What is it about this area that is so different from other places you can travel to for running and cycling?
Yeah, I mean, BC has it all. and here we are at Silverstar and we have to come here for a stop from last year's summer series. It's an incredible place and right now the fall colors are unreal. It's a great place to be. It's a great place. I mean. the birthplace of crank works and even though we can't be in Whistler it's cool to be able to visit all these different bike parks and I just want to ask crank works in general how important crank works is to just kind of elevate and build the scene of women's riding competitively these days, yeah it's huge, that's how I started competing growing up in Whistler.
You always see the cranks working and yeah, those are my first opportunities to compete and right now it's crazy, there are so many girls and it's growing so it's really fun to be a part of it or be on the sidelines watching, in my case now Same thing, we can't wait until you recover and serve as a great example for all those young cyclists. Looking to move up the ranks, there is a film project in the works about you and for a little preview let's take a look, seeing a young woman who is so turned on like that is great, just like when I was so young.
She is so sure that she has a talent like I have rarely seen. She cantake on something new and look absolutely great doing it. She is not afraid, but she is not crazy. Everything she does she knows she can do it. She has that killer instinct when she comes up. I'm really excited to try new things and push myself in whatever small ways I can, but I really love being on my bike as much as possible. We will definitely see it on October 20th and if that doesn't make you want to do it. come to bc and ride a mountain bike i don't know what will happen here we'll be back in the racing action kialani heinz is not only top ranked she has our fastest time of the day for women so far yeah and this is through everything we see. the times are as tight as point one, point two and that shows that anyone's game is for anyone and I think that's one of the things in the pump track that you always know that you are just one mistake away from losing it and that even That's even true here if you have a point six from your competitor, there's no room for air here, Kilani Heinz, your number one qualifier on the way against Kylie Stewart, it's really interesting, you look at the first round times and Kalani only had 19 from both women. here in rank 19, so in qualifying they were really focused, that shows that in these first rounds everyone takes it a little easier and there it goes, I think that was the new fastest time of the day, how about that start, did you see how? far ahead, she came straight out of the gate, no wonder she has the fastest time of the day so far for the women's field, but look at that, you don't waste energy, yeah, you think the start is yours.speed around the whole track, you can go, you know, half a mile an hour faster out of the gate, you're not tearing up the whole track, so it's great to have that slow motion view of the start to analyze all the different strategies. trying to get that momentum started somewhere different techniques of how to coil that cobra, okay, let's coil it up there in the cave.
Can? I think the track will probably dry out a little more and it's sunny here too, look at Gracie and Robin at the gate, so Robin bullies the 1.1 lead over Gracie Hem Street here's his second race oh, I see a little mistake there, I think one of the things that wow here we go was a 1.1 lead so this is going to be Tight Gracie threw the finish line first by 1.0 oh my god that was close look how close it is so Robin she didn't think at all that she was going to move forward, she's practically ready to pack up and then realize this is the mistake, here we go.
She just got out, you saw her, her wheels just came off, she just got a little more traction than she was thinking. You're always looking so far ahead that he thought he was done with that roller so we'll send goombs to the round of four against keolani hines like he hit that pole so if you love what you're seeing here at crank works bc of course , this is stop number two of a three part series, the next stop will be roto-rooter new zealand and If you're a big fan, you can't wait until Road Rotorua, check out crankworx.com for updates on some of your favorite events , overall points standings of favorite riders, and of course some cool merchandise if you want to strut your stuff.
Ride around town and let everyone know you're a mountain biker and watch the Crank Works World Tour. Crankworx.com is where you can find it all: hats, hoodies, dog bowls, shirts, what else do you want? Visit crankworx.com. Remember that I have a free job. shirt back i don't even know when it was maybe 2010 and i wore it until it faded so much you couldn't even tell what it was yeah we love crank jobs. Who else loves crank jobs? Casey Brown loves crank jobs. This is what she is. running on her fork she has that fs pike dj 120 psi two click and you really want to stiffen that fork for the pump track yeah you definitely don't need to worry too much about traction here but this is going to be critical for both riders .
It is very close. Casey can do this if she's on point. She is one point behind Harriet, but this journey is difficult. She has that soft berm at the end of the course. Let's see if Casey can maintain the speed down that stretch. Move over a job well done for your number three qualifier there, Harriet Burbidge Smith, and that was a time faster than Kelani's number one qualifier time there from Harriet, so they're doing the double jump and then moving up there, I think one of the things. that when you think about what makes a good pump is how smooth you are you don't want to see the tires hitting on the top look here just perfect on the back you don't want to be too low no I also don't want to be following the roller you can see it's kind of a constant, you know, driving from Harriet to make up time really makes those turns good and then Casey in that slower lane can't make it happen, Harriet number three. qualifier out there today, when you consider all the different events you've entered in the last 10 days, which one has been your favorite so far, it's a good combination, I quite like this track, so this one or the slalom were really incredible, the sun shines in the air.
The descent was also a really fun track, so enjoying everything about the pump track that people don't always realize as we watch you trying to catch your breath is that even though it's such a short race, how demanding physically what is this super driving format. taxi, I think it is almost more exhausting than the slalom. There's something about that quick muscle memory that you have to keep going and it tires you very quickly. Well, keep something in the tank for the rest of the fights. It looks like if she's able to get out of the next round, you'll face her next time, you have the second and fourth fastest time of the day since we started climbing here today, so you're doing very well, Keep up the good work Harriet, thanks.
So Harriet, absolutely up a storm at the moment, will give him a chance to catch his breath and I'm sure he'll be watching next series as we see through Verbeek charged at the door who has the advantage against Hertel. Not seeing a break a few of those times is really nice and now it's really about maintaining that speed. It's so precise. She loves to be precise. Her and the bass have this really nice pump track right in their front yard that they practice on. It's super, super technical. super tight, so whatever training they've been doing in the offseason has paid off through verbeek breakthroughs.
She will face Harriet Burbidge Smith in the round of 16. Lavabeak leads the queen leaderboard by 132 points. Her boyfriend Bass Van Steenberg and doing the same thing in the men, look back at these

s, yeah, so you see her do the lunge and then try to get a little boost right after that door, she talked about where you should be in these berms and she's always in the perfect spot right in the middle and then pumping onto the rollers people think you're joking when you talk about line choice and pump trucks but you have to put your bike in the right spot yeah the line I mean the lines go feet apart inches apart and you're really just trying not to lose traction, our semi-finals are scheduled right now, heinz will face goombs, harriet will face through, I mean, we talked about you know these first few rounds are not chews like we got gracie's uh bug and point one back so since things have already made their way to the semi-finals for the women, let's take a look at the top of the field where the men are loaded at the gate and All these riders try to leave out the math involved with those general point structures because of course I mean we're paying for the top five positions and you know you want to get the maximums honors, but if you can stay in the top five, To make some money at the end of the season in New Zealand, we see Thomas Slavic in fifth place at the moment.
It's surprising not to see it on Pump Track, isn't it? This is one of the events you always think about. Slavic, you know, for the world champion, but it's not just about winning second place, you also get a lot of money and it's definitely tight that Joe and Jackson are right on the precipice of taking that spot, so now that we have chiseled. our women's field down to the final four, I'm sure team managers and friends are grabbing their little iPhone calculators and trying to figure out what this means. We know there's a big gap between Via and Casey, but it's also about the top five.
You see Robin Goom sitting there in fifth place, Harriet and Kilani, as well as making it to the final four, so points are up for grabs, yeah, and this is really Kelani and Harriet, it's going to be their event to make up points over all the other women. So yeah, fourth place points are 50 points, third, 60 seconds, 80 and 400 points for whoever can win the rock shocks pump track, silver star. Here now we have Niels Bensink back at the door, he starts with the foot down there so he can get more. of an incredible lunge, it's a unique starting tactic, isn't it?
He had never seen that before. I think they did. I think he and Bass did some testing. He actually had a gate and timed a bunch of different starts, so it shows. how much work these athletes put into the crank jobs, it's not like just showing up here and you know, well luckily we have slow motion cameras so let's find out what niels bensick is doing so well that has allowed him to not only qualify. First, but take out Jackson Fruit here now, obviously, something we're going to notice in these replays is the amount of speed lost by that long travel bike, bigger wheels and totally, I mean, the crank works sometimes it's kind of race, what you have run.
It's hard to carry five bikes on a plane around the world, so there it is, outside the Netherlands, Niels Bensink, your number one qualifier, what is it about this initial technique that allows him to be so efficient here, let's stop him ,Elliott? try to analyze what he's doing yeah so look at his right foot it's down so normally you would have your feet level but having his foot down allows him to move backwards to get more leverage to move forward so you'll be using your break watch your right hand as soon as your front tire clears the gate you let go and then you crouch down for another jump immediately and that's the lunch you'll see so you saw your back tire jump off the ground and that's it .
It's really just saying how can I generate speed from nothing? Starting lower, pressing the right pedal to start lower and pushing from further back. It's super interesting. We've never really seen it the entire time they're doing this. for years too, eh, I used the nickname of those initial techniques, we're going to have to give that one, the coiled cobra, well, Tegan running much lower than everyone else, it's that serious, it's almost like you know it costs down and zero pressure 36, come on, you and teague. You're selling yourself short, let's give this guy a hype and you see Tegan trying to do that kind of jump but he couldn't get enough momentum and now it's going to be up to him to make up that time. he's on the fastest circuit, Tegan is close trying to come from behind oh 0.02 oh man we're talking about close racing here now, well at least we don't have to watch Teagan and Keegan race again, what are they doing to us? here, so Keegan Wright will make it to the round of four and face Niels Bensink.
Let's look back. Keegan makes the little doodle on the right side. Tegan makes the jump so you can see that each person has their own style and we talk. about the start because, like I said, that's your speed for the whole race, but Tegan is so smooth that you can see him perfect in these turns, so precise, he's one of these little kids that technically has so much talent, perfect touch, number of keegan manual. four qualified, but I also have good news for you, you now have the fastest time of the day since we started racing on our stream here today with everything you considered, you burst onto the scene from the pump track, is that still your? favorite discipline on the world tour here, yeah man it's always been a lot of fun, it's a cool event and I know it's always sick when the whole crowd can move around the track and have a good vibe, yeah it's definitely one of my favorites, without a doubt.
Well it looks like you are in your element, congratulations on the best time of the day, you will face Niels here in the next round so we wish you the best of luck, keep up the good work, cheers doggy, cheers, cheers , puppy. dog, he can always have fun out there, he is one of those types of personalities that you always hope to see and always love to see in crankworx kagan's, a man that you hang out withHe will face Niels Bensink, it will be a great eliminator, but of course. now it's about garrett meacham taking on another kiwi for hoto ariki penny garrett meacham from the santa cruz california global field here but garrett is one point ahead of tujodo right now it's really interesting to see garrett has his hands super within its bars how can you say that no, it does not come from the context of the race, it simply shows how difficult it is to get your feet on that rear berm of the cyclist's right line, right?
Yeah, I think, because even the rest of the track is drying out, but you still see that shadow there, so you can almost catch the ruts and stuff like that and as a rider, when it's wet like that you have to stay light, so here there's the start, keep in mind that Garrett had the advantage here before this door falls into Hodo's fight from behind, it almost looks like he's crossing the finish line there, yeah, pushing the bike out, but yeah, like you say, look how much space you have at the end of the grip, yes, totally and compared to the hodo which is right at the edge of the bar, so go ahead, it's interesting.
You know, you see so many different riders coming from different backgrounds. You can see here that this rider comes from a dirt jumping background that you tend to see. Those slow style dirt jump riders really choke on the handlebars getting all that leverage in there for those bar turns and it's fun to see a rider with downhill experience take on the router with more jumping experience, but Garrett Meacham, unfortunately. we're sending him to the showers right now, he's not going to make it to the round of four, but that's what crank is all about, you see these different riders from different disciplines, all crossing with the goal in mind of those overall points, the man with the most overall points at the moment are at the door his name is bass van steenbergen he has an advantage over braden barrett haye the slopestyle rider we have seen in previous years we are happy to welcome him to our field here currently lives in vernon bc so these guys live in the same city im sure they travel together regularly.
The best Van Steen Bergen should be able to skate this one. He has a 1.5 in Braydon. Yeah, there's a really big scene. You mentioned how. a lot of dirt jumps there are how many slalom courses there are low getting that full slam I feel like that's very elegant making sure you don't make any mistakes being precise you're one of the people who trains really hard and it seems like he makes a mistake on that turn but in You actually know how smooth the curve is and it takes a big whiplash as you go through it. It's really impressive when you see the riders get through that right berm on the back efficiently because we were watching practice, we were watching dirt go flying and that's not something you normally see at a pump track, it's that point. from the field where the sun has had a hard time getting to, yeah, look at this, look and You know, the interesting thing is that the bass and the fire actually do the same initial technique, so they could have tried to develop it together to do the lunge.
The bass uses its rest to get a kind of slingshot that shoots forward and then its tire. look where their tires land here, so incredibly perfect, this is what a good pump looks like and what you always strive for when you ride at home, is how good I can be on the back of the roller with such a bass I need to say hello to Edsard and Caroline down at the bottom of the hill, unfortunately they can't be up here cheering on the big bass, but we say what's up to them, I'm sure they're tuned in. at home and there's a look at our semi-finals locked in right now, some good matchups, totally, looks like this could be two finals, let's see if we go against Keegan Wright who has the fastest time of the day so we'll be doing a lot of biking . here outside of the races and, you know, our boy Trevor is always willing to make you have a little fomo.
Let's check out the local GT laps with Trav. What has he been doing? Oh my god, I have to do that. I'm terrified because the tire keeps hitting me in the rear, the hook burns really rotten, it's really hard to ride and lord, oh my god, oh textbook sick, pretty, I think a lot of the guys want to win, it's a very, very prestigious race to have your name in it. winning on this trail its great to run outside man its hard on the trail bike thank god for a good break from the 220k rotors that was the course preview for cragworks psychosis.
Great, it would be crazy to ride that trail no matter what, but it would be even crazier to ride that trail on a hardtail. It looks like Tom Bradshaw did exactly that race psychosis on a hardtail bike. Tom is with us right now. It sounds like you're a little crazy, psychosis. The name says it all, but you decided to ride a bike without suspension. How was the? Yes Kim, the corpse was still recovering a bit, but it was really a throwback to the legends of his original psycho career, like those champions, he always had some kind of hardtail bike and I don't know how they did it back then , it's so cool, you know, people complain that their local trails aren't technical enough, it's like we ride a hardtail bike, you know? and if all you have is a fire road, go back to the roots and ride a cruiser, let's take a look on the screen right now, Tom, what was your experience like, what was the hardest part, was it the top? shoot or was it something more technological with drops in the forest, what was it that shot from above as the iconic piece that you always see?
It was fun, but then just his hands for probably about 10 minutes were pretty brutal. Where are you? 27.5 29, what were you running? Oh it was a pretty new school camera on the 29er, nothing like the ones the guys had in the past at 26 inches and yeah you saw the gap in the road, we had it at 30 feet this year I think back in the day It was like 50 feet and they were still shipping it Tom, you're the good man to you for keeping it real, someone's gotta do it, way to go buddy, thanks for the game night, cheers later Tom, so it's all about hardtails in the Rockshox Pump Track Silver. star and uh now let's focus on a track where a hardtail is at home, those are the polar opposites here, a pump versus psycho track, what do you think of that?
What an animal, Thomas apparently, you can only ride a bicycle. for everything, go to the supermarket, write psychosis anyway, save yourself the struggle, keep it simple, man, write a hardtail, I love it, I bought a 29er hardtail, no, I'm on it all the time, keep it real, you gotta do it. get one, where are we now? Elliot, I think we're going into our round of four for our women. We're looking at Harriet Berbich Smith on the screen right now, but at the door we have two silhouettes. I imagine it's Kilani Heinz taking on back fin Robin Goombs Heinz, your number one qualifier, here we go, the cadence has started getting those nice manuals.
I think she's, uh, Ryder, you're always making the decision. Do I want to do it manually? I want a dual tire that comes really close right in the middle oh yeah that's tight let's see exactly how tight 0.29 so Keolani Hines keeps his promise and that's what qualifying first means it's a promise to everyone who They are there supporting you and yourself. that you're going to take home the win, but it's a heavy load to carry with keilani heinz putting a .29 on robin goombs right now it seemed like kelani was really good at the end of that first stretch, they were really close at the beginning and then you saw them running close together face to face, not something you normally see on a mountain bike and then Kalani actually got that manual crossover across the timing strip, that's what .29 looks like right there, nothing basically, I mean , there's a little bit of space between Keolani's rear tire and Robin Goombs' front tire, which is a little over a quarter of a second that Robin Goons will have to make up once we switch sides and do it all again .
Do you see something pretty? words of inspiration tattooed on harry burbridge smith's hands hold on this is going to be a close race here we go viver beak will take on harriet burbridge smith in his first race in the semis here we go I think he's going to try to gain time in the harriet curves on the straights oh, the number two and three qualifiers this will be a heater wow neck and neck and the final right away, what will it be? Oh man, I feel like we had a couple of leadership exchanges there. I mean, the whole time they were going back and forth, each reel one of them was ahead by 0.01, that's 100 seconds between who has the lead ahead of Harriet Burbidge Smith in such a short period of time to see so many exchanges of leaders, that's why. we love the rockshox pump track challenge, let's take a look back in its entirety, they both do the same beats manually, the same things almost seem like a mirror image of each other, but again, just taking these turns, it's so perfect to get out early and get into it early.
The next one was a little jump towards the floor, there it gave us a little bit of speed, so we talked about what a quarter of a second looks like at the finish line and now we can see what 100 of a second looks like. Oh my gosh, look at this, we have the overlap here, what do you mean? Here's the line right here and you can barely see the difference between these two tires, as close as you can imagine. It's amazing, so it's going to be a drag race. when we get them back to the top of the field and we switch sides with a slim lead, she's the second-place finisher, Harriet is the third-place finisher and that's how it works, it's like, well, he knew he was going to have to come to this. at some point and we know that the runner's right is a little smaller, but this race is going to be very close, Keegan with that super fast time, he is getting faster and faster throughout the day, it seems that Keegan, the number qualifier four, he has the fastest time of the day for the men who will face number one in the rankings niels bensink niels bensink of the netherlands if he is able to pass will we possibly see number one and number two face each other? keegan wright wants to make sure that doesn't happen happens here we are going to race number one between these two totally different starts but very close Neil has only a slight lead almost even coming into this first corner oh I like this ellie this is going to be close oh Let's see another hundredth of a second here, oh what's it going to be?
Neil is trying to make a guy, he didn't compensate every time he made that curve very well. 06 apparently this is the closest race we've ever seen so Keegan Wright made sure to keep the pace right. I don't want to give up too much qualify first he qualified fourth but it's getting faster and faster as the day goes on look at it I never noticed two feet yeah well two breaks I wonder if that has anything to do with the beginning. It's not going to break like you, you should almost take it off because you don't want to hit it, but I think it's interesting even for some riders that you know, like for me, I don't really give that finish line a look here. friend, what is it going to be? it was tight it's a point zero six it looks like he's been here before he definitely knows what to do so check out our fastest times of the day. keegan wright has the top two fastest times bass with the third fastest and Niels your number one qualifier doesn't have any of those top times so it's all about pacing yourself so Bass Vancinbergen another single start break it down for us, Elliott, yeah, so look, he'll hold the break and then he'll pull the wheel back, it's like he almost did it. a wheelie hits the front end down, which will allow you to do that lunge, actually preloads the fork almost like a trigger device on that gate, see that?
Okay, we look at that fork, it's actually compressing it, so when he's able to let it bounce back again, do you think that's like cocking the gun a little bit like having something? It's pretty incredible that you're micromanaging what the door is doing to the bike, so there we're going to look at the amount of travel. here I'm going to see how compressed that fork is there and he basically has it loaded so he can release it as soon as the gate drops, let's take a look at how this bass vancouver does against toho ariki, both with almost equal starts. neck and neck going into that first turn the bass has been really good on these changes all day oh he just had such a good run that was okay awesome you know what I want to know can we get an update on those fastest times of the day right now because I forgot what they were, but that 15.8 seemed pretty fast from the bottom, here we go, that's the fastest time of the day by a bit, yeah, first time we've seen it on the 15 sub 16 there for the bass, van steenbergen.
Get to the top just in time here and I think that will give youIt shows how experienced the bass is, he knows how to live up to the pressure and when you get a practically perfect ride like that, it's so good that both riders lean in. in the turns you don't jump and then you lean, you jump and you lean at the same time always looking towards the exit and the bass will detect these, one of its only man-made runners, it will detect these curves right next to the post, that is what everyone's been trying to do all day, a lot of riders hit that thing and then get a perfect straightaway, let's see if it's floating, the bass tells the bike what to do, time of day, speaking of time, let's take a look glance.
In our sample day in the life with Finn Isles Finn, you race against the clock, but I feel like every downhill racer has a love-hate relationship with time, what's yours like? I think it's pretty cool, my whole life is basically just I'm defined by being the fastest person on the track, so I spend the least amount of time on my bike when it comes to racing, which is kind of funny, but I feel like that racing against the clock would stress a lot of people out and I feel like there's a weird relationship where as soon as you have to time someone, they behave worse because they feel like the stress is on them, but I feel like I'm very comfortable with that because I've been doing it my whole life. and I actually feel like as soon as I'm in the door and it's like you know that beep beep beep and you go, it's like okay, I'm a little anxious and then it's like you go and it's like tunnel vision. and it's just walking and that's when you do your best, so it's a really great feeling because as soon as you start running you can have the best day of your life or the worst day of your life, but usually you walk the best you can. you can when you're on the clock so that's a really good feeling time has taken the life out of a runner it's all about the clock and I don't know man that's a funny way to say it I've never thought about that actually you know you love to ride a bike a lot, but you try to ride a bike less than anyone else when race day comes, go to the track and be like, man, I was on my bike such a small amount of time that our semi-finals race number two now that's where we are in the rockshox pump track challenge here women's category getting ready to take this course between all the different disciplines that we have here this is absolutely the sprint seen our fastest time of the day 15.8 for the men but you have to ride a lot if Taking into account that they have completed round 16, round 8, we are in a round of four right now, we are getting closer and closer to delivering the hardware and those valuable points for the king and queen.
Heat number one, the second race for the women is about to be loaded at the gate, but we are going through some footage right now trying to see if there is a possible disqualification. Explain to me how that works. Sometimes you know there are some of these. flags on the course yes like as long as both wheels are on the right side then everything is fine but sometimes we will see the polls go over or you know a wheel fails or something like that and if you do that you are disqualified I just heard in my ear they checked and there's no disqualification so that's cool robin goons with .29 to make up for behind keilani heinz they're up and running oh and he slides a pedal right out the door he was trying to get a lot of power, but that's one of the things that can happen, a lot of these riders who race with flat pedals will skid and end up in the final, which is exactly what you hope to do when you qualify first, so congratulations, keilani heinz , Robin bullies.
You're done for today, let's take a look at the replays. I look at your right foot here, the pedal, maybe some of the riders are trying to find a rhythm section on flat ground. It's almost a lunge, a pump, a jump or something like that. to gain extra speed, but you know you mentioned how physical he is and Kelani just walks up to make sure he can surprise Kyolani Heinz. He's been on tour a lot. He has learned a lot over the years. Look at that, putting all that knowledge into practice. try there first and second fastest times, we caught up with her about how much she's learned from her on the Crank Works world tour over the years.
She said this. I think some of the lessons I learned were just to be patient. I think that excelling very well at one thing makes you want to be good at everything and it just doesn't work that way, especially when you come from something like bmx to mountain biking, where I practice. now four bikes and not just one and I'm training on four bikes it's like a process and you have to trust it and just take your time and as you know learn as you go sometimes it's hard to learn the hard way and like lose, but it is just the process and we have to accept it for young people.
I feel like there's a lot to learn from a veteran like Keolani Heinz, especially considering that most of the riders that appear on the crankworx world tour come from a specific discipline and then suddenly, instead of just being the master of one, you have that becoming the master of all and that king and queen in general really reflects who has been able to spread their wings beyond their comfort level. Yes, we saw the fire coming from Harriet down the hill, here she comes from BMX and now she is on Pump Track on a hardtail bike, so who will it be now?
One hundredth of a second separates Vaio from Beacon Harriet Burford Smith, the lead belonging to via. See peak, but this is an endurance race and that's why it was very close in that first heat. Oh, look at this Harriet, some speed. Harriet with the momentum she has done, looks this good, we expected it to be a tight race. They match there with the second and third qualifiers, but the number 3 qualifier, Harriet Berbick Smith, who reaches the final, will face Keilani Heinz. Wow, and they were very close everywhere. I think what we're looking for is how much.
Speed? Did you take these two curves? They are quite close. Look here, they just move forward, but then this is tight, yeah, a little bit of mud there, it's a little bit slower and that's just going to ruin your speed, so Harriet. I actually had a great time, uh, the last race, if you could keep up with Wow, I just couldn't assume that I liked it, right after, look at the moments of the day right there. Keolani is 17.9 with the fastest time and Harriet is almost uh. precursor of what we are going to see in the final, it is a back and forth, back and forth, so easy in parentheses, Elliot, what do we have?
So I think the matchup that we knew and expected to happen all day was Kelani. heinz vs. harriet river smith and then go vs. robin robin, I think they'll both be great though look at our quality numbers there one, two, three and four, going all the way up to one, two, three and four, here we go semi men At the door , this is another one of those races we were waiting to see. Look at the times in the semi-final. Can Keegan eliminate the number one finisher? He has a lead of six hundredths of a second. Neil's been looking, they're up and running, Neal's off to an amazing start, but Keegan makes up the time on those first few rollers, perfect on that right, they've both got a bit of an advantage, oh point zero six, to play with Ben See by Neil. he's going to do it he's going to be close what does the clock say? point three isn't going to be enough, they got super dumb, it'll be enough, look at that, okay, that was after they did the math, so nils is dancing, neal is doing He happened to see Keegan just pushing with everything which had going a little wild on that right turn and then down the straight in a pump track race, you're really trying to push as hard as you can.
The harder you push the roller, the more speed you will get. Man Keegan really made it work for this. He had that lead of six hundredths of a second, but he looks at how Niels turned on the jets in the final right away, yeah, and I think. You know, we see that, I mean, I think his pmx experience is really helping Niels because in all these straights he's so good at being able to get in between that roller. You see a lot of people jumping to the top and maybe losing a little. a bit of speed, Neil is able to get there floating over the top barely touching his front wheel on the top of the table, so Niels Bensink delivers what is expected of the number one qualifier, being able to get him down under pressure , but this is the big question here bass van steenberg and facing tuhoto ariki tohoto doing a great job reaching the semifinals here batman steve bergen with a 1.1 advantage we saw bass in that first series it was simply an incredible race, let's see if he can making it competitive even on the slowest track making those really nice corners so hodo a little low coming out of that left corner fast knows he had a little bit of an advantage in that first heat so he could qualify well today and make it all the way to the semi-finals here, but Bass Van Steenbergen is very difficult to beat on the pump track, the number two qualifier looks flawless as always and you see that they are really evenly matched, you know, even just neck and neck and tohoto, you heard it.
Let's say you drifted a little bit coming out of the x of the turn, that's why it went down there and it's always a trade-off that you can push in, but you could lose traction at the same time, so go down that right berm at the end. of the rider's correct heading right there is so challenging that's the course you were on right there, what's it like trying to get speed off that berm as the conditions evolve throughout the day? It's practically impossible, it's a It's just soft everywhere. I try to go high, low, low, high, like, you never end up at a marked point, uh, so getting the most speed is going to be the key and then getting out as much as you can, but Yeah, it's hard that initial technique that you have now.
If you've been working a lot with house doors, it seems like you have a new strategy up there, I think it's the same as before, but, yeah. I don't know, it's so strange, it feels so strange to work on it, but yeah, no, it feels pretty decent, it's working for you, so congratulations, it's not going to be an easy road to get the gold here, but I know you have the eyes on it, so I can't wait to see the show. Yes, I will take the final Dutch exam. I know I was going to say it's the craziest thing ever, so we'll talk a little bit about that and maybe you.
If you win you'll be able to speak some Dutch for us because I know you don't like doing that so yeah that sounds good okay congratulations on getting over the bass good luck here we go here's what it looks like and refers to to this right there, niels bensink, from the netherlands, the best van steenberg and flying the maple leaf, his family moved here, i don't know, about 10 years ago and you know that he and his brother tom don't speak english and So now they don't even have accents anymore which is crazy but it would be cool to hear a little finish line banter between Niels and Bass yeah in the next series and they're good friends I think Bass has been teaching.
Neil has a thing or two about mountain biking and Neil plays BMX bass. He is a great BMX rider. We see that in the bronze metal round, two Kiwis have ridden a lot together and know how each one does it safely. tomorrow, time pending style and if you want to be part of the action, be sure to head over to the Red Bull Metal predictor. If it was for Pump Track, it would be easy. You know, you would say all ranked ones and twos. then you would have been right, but for the slow style it is about following the entire world tour, checking the results from Innsbruck, checking the results from previous seasons, seeing who is on the start list, I get on there, I have already made my selections . but you have a little time to adjust them, so tomorrow I'll be out there watching practice adjusting my picks.
There are also some trivias below that you must answer some crank work slope style trivias so the best riders will be tomorrow emil johansen. nikolai ragatkin eric Fedko the whole team david godziag thomas shannon that's going to be fun but now it's all about pumping the track the chains are off the tires are inflated and we have our best riders at the door here we are watching via verbeek I think for Having so much experience, she is thinking about that queen title and doesn't want to throw it away, but he is also very competitive and wants to win the bronze medal.
At stake here will be Robin Goombs. or running one of the bronze medal matchups with a really good starting robin, not as much speed, but I think getting it back a little bit coming into that right turn and getting a really nice manual right turn, I think it's getting a little bit slower as we go through the day, it's like what you call that, a little sinkhole of quicksand, slow sand, so if I ever cross the 1.4 line ahead of Robin Goombs, I'd love to add some third place points to the extended score. That crank queen works as the overall leader, so down the line, third place points would be 60 points, looking to do what she can to grab those damn ones, I think it wasone of the best parts of it, it starts all day and again I think one of the What you can take home is how precise these riders are.
Everything they do is really deliberate, like jumping out further in to better prepare for this left turn by using all the track that goes outside on that left. hand twist well this is going to be good right here this is our number one bronze medal showdown for men keegan wright taking on tohoro ariki penny he's so awesome here for toho you know we thought of him like a downhill runner, here it is possibly. a chance to win a bronze medal here, but he has to beat the pump track specialist, keegan wright, new zealand, the first new zealand on the course and they both really push themselves, they want to beat each other.
It's all about who doesn't make mistakes, the hodo. Coming into this last left turn a little bit ahead, Keegan hit that soft turn really well and just pushed Keegan back to the right, charging all the way and, as you say, was able to carry some decent speed out. of that soft, slow sand berm on the The right course for the cyclist, but Tujodo will have to ride it here once we change sides, listen to them talk about lake fatigue, you know, you don't really think about it, but you know, when you do a pump track race, I always think that even Respira the whole time I was hanging around there just because you were pushing so hard and these two riders just saw them hand pumping jumping onto this left berm Keegan, look at those tires, look how close The one in the upper corner is crazy. look your eyes up always looking outwards at the exit of the curve look those eyes up look where you want to go not where you are children see the tree hit the tree and that will only allow them to prepare for the next obstacle always looking at a couple of obstacles ahead, it will be great to see them change courses and determine that bronze medal, but we are back at the top of the course, now running the number one of our gold medal showdown, our number one qualifier, Kelani Heinz .
Taking on number three Harriet Burbidge Smith with a slightly better reaction time, but Kelani making up a bit of time during the first straight, the riders will now try to carry speed through those corners and it's all about how much speed. you can continue down this last straight line, you have to push even knowing she's in the slower lane, that advantage isn't insurmountable once we change lanes and build it up again, so Harriet go ahead, everyone's joking, oh you're welcome way, look, that's the fastest. Moment of the day: Harriet rose to the occasion in the gold medal match and made it happen.
Didn't we just talk to her earlier on the headset about how tired she was and she's talking about how she should keep some gas in the tank that she's getting? faster as the day goes on and we run the same kind of cadence as a bmx race, so Harry will be, I mean, they both have bmx races, but Harriet will be very comfortable knowing when that gate is going to drop. manly off that turn and knowing you have to try really hard to get high, but that's okay because she was able to jump off the berm onto that last roller, a little hand nose, look at that, no problem. hand nose right through Of the perfect finish lights, so Niels Bensink has the chance to take home more hardware, he will finish no lower than second place, which means he will get a silver or a gold.
She has taken away a track medal for crank pumping. It was innsbruck just a few months ago take a look at how he did it, he's going up against adrian he was behind so we know from this we're reviewing right now that niels ben zink is no stranger to pressure he doesn't give in to it. pressure coming from behind against adrian laronne and doing what he had to do to get that bronze medal against someone we've seen as decorated on the crankworx world tour as adrian larone, especially in the pump track discipline, so niels bensink in the door At this moment I am facing Bass Van Steinberg and who qualified second.
This is the dream. The collision course between first and second place. He runs one of the gold medal bouts near the Bass Van Steenbergen fanstick. Two perfect exits. I come down with a little bit of a lead going into this first left turn, how much speed can they carry. It's about getting speed out of this last corner, knowing that by starting on that faster course you want to give something good to your competitor. 0.39 is what he and I can muster. I think that was the fastest time of the day, come on seriously, come on let's see he's getting faster as we go 15.7 fast.
Yes, he is the only person who has been able to reach 15 and he has done it the last two times. been on that left side road, let's look back here, I mean, flawless for both riders, can you spot any mistakes here from either of them? You see them so precise now is not the time, I mean the bass is able to get even a little low in that turn and still not lose traction again just floating around pumping its butt when you see the manual it's really pushing towards the part back of that roller to generate speed, he has that fast twitch muscle reaction and every move he makes is something I don't know what to do in order to gain speed it's almost like he's also moving on the berms like he's doing a side bomb okay bronze medal showdown for the women this is a if i can race for her it's about not making mistakes and robin really just needs to push on this side faster so live beak with a 1.4 advantage over rob and goombs right now he is predisposed to lose the bronze metal showdown, but she is able to maintain a smooth race, she should be able to do it.
To get it pretty close, he has to deal with this right hand back burn from Elliott and now there are just a couple of rollers left before the bronze medal for Viber Beak, so despite crossing the finish line in second place his peak, he knew he had a 1.4 lead and will take. the bronze medal and add to that total of points, she is a very intelligent cyclist 591 plus 100 or more three place points, let's see how many there are, here we go to third place 60. at 60 points, I simply do that lunge and, like I said, At first it may just be the width of the tire, but it magnifies into a bike length or two at the end of the first straight, just because it looks like you had a little extra speed taking that high line on that soft burn.
I saw a couple of people do that and that seems to be the fullest part of that burn, but both super talented racers with just recovering a little have a slightly higher average speed across the track, so Verbeek got third place. 60 points to add to the 591 I had at the start of the day 651 points that now belong to live beacon now the showdown for the men's bronze medal this will be a good match for hodo and a t-shirt, I know you warm up in this cold Tomorrow it will be a cold and difficult day, so honor Penny right now with the advantage over Keegan Wright.
Keegan needs a perfect lap right now. He's on the fast track, yes he is and they're both really pushing, making a little mistake on that first one. Tohono section has a push because he only has point four to play, I think he's going to do it, it seems more than point four, here we go, Keegan Wright takes the bronze medal, congratulations to Keegan, the number four qualifier, who he took third place and knocked out the third place finisher to do it, so Keegan Wright is doing his job today and making sure the fastest ride he makes comes with scores.
You can see where they both landed right on the top, so they lost a little bit of time right there and they knew it, so they were pushing pretty hard and a little wildly for the rest of the track and Hodo came off this berm trying to gain speed. but he couldn't recover the 0.2 he needed. Here is the beginning. Keegan looks at his front wheel almost out of the door looks at Keegan with his eyes raised, looks at Tohono trying to figure out what he's dealing with, something you'd never notice without that slow motion replay, but a little slipped in there. just trying to generate some speed and it's like a snail crawl until this first roller sees both riders get up to try to get that tire on the back of that roller.
It's crazy to think how fast they're going at the end of the race and it all comes down to this, it starts with that one, okay, the women's gold medal match, the next one, this will be a good match, keolani heinz, your number qualifier one, facing number three seed harriet burbidge smith, these women have been trading. fastest times of the day all day, so Harriet, I think she has the advantage right now, she knows that, but she also knows that she is on the fastest track. .472 to play here. A similar situation to our men's bronze medal match.
He's just a little bit behind. getting started sometimes is good it's almost like a horse race where you know you have to make up time so she's going to push to get back together oh harry is going to be able to hold on here oh that's a big gap keolani heinz crosses the finish line and she does it If she makes up for that disadvantage and takes the gold medal, I'm tired, but I just won, so Harriet had that amazing start, did the jump technique and got into that first roller, which really prepared her for the rest of the track, now that we've seen it.
Kalani here again, all these last few rounds, everyone looks so perfect, looking forward, looking off the berm, really just floating using the double tire technique and some of these longer transitions, and we can see that the advantages They start from the beginning, so Keolani is the highest ranked. fastest time of the day and you took the gold medal, but guess what in that last race you were coming from behind? What was it like with that little bit of pressure knowing you had it? I think that was point four and you are capable of achieving it. It happens when it counts, um, yeah, it was amazing, like Harriet was a great competitor on the pump track and I knew she had the faster side, so I had to be perfect on that side to surpass her because point four is cut like kind . of a lot on the pump tracks, so yeah, she's happy.
Do you feel like that right rear berm is where you lost a point four? Is that a big factor right now? We're curious because we have one more race left and we want to see how it's going to play out, well for me my gate is slower than Harriet's and then I think on top of that that right back corner really got me so yeah. probably congratulations, Keolani, that's it, this was it. your day, thank you very much keolani heinz the fastest qualifier taking the fastest time of the day and the gold medal way to go way to go and there's a look at how the story unfolded here for the women's category keolani heinz gold medal harry berber smith with the silver and the bronze medal will go to viaver beak as he extends his lead for the queen to 651 points now there is one more race to go, it will be the men's final, so let's take a look at how we are here, let's remember the differential race number one between neil spence and bass van steenbergen yeah, this you know, it's just a masterclass on what it means to ride on a vague track enjoying that perfect start carrying good speed did you hear kimani say on the fastest track you're actually just alone trying to be perfect and Perfect means having the rear end perfect in the corners, not touching the brake, not turning or going too far into the corners, the bass, really leaving it there, but he's on the slower side.
Niels is going to have the same thought so now it's My chance, a flawless race from both sides resulted in a .114 in favor of the faster course, now we change it and there is no margin for error here for Neil's Ben Sink, he has to recover point one, one, four, oh, this could be a good nail, about half. half a wheel later, that will be it, there is no doubt that niels bensink makes up for that .114 and then niels pence takes the gold medal, what a race to be able to take it in the last race, the faster side, all the pressure knowing that This is where you have to make up your time you're down let's make that happen oh that damn back berm okay this is the berm we've been talking about this is a big character in this race as much as Bass and Niels are characters in this race and they're getting into it, here we go, so look, he's what you think he took.
He's kind of pointing up a little bit. Well, I think you're trying to find a full place. section of that berm, okay, let's see as we roll it what his exit velocity was here, another angle from Elliot and you can actually see how bumpy it comes out, but it actually lands on top of that, that's why you see it collapse. because it came a little early with that bomb and it builds up so much that you miss abomb so Niels congratulations to the top finisher today and they definitely made you win he went all the way and we asked Keolani this too what is it like? be in the door knowing you have a differential to compensate for well thanks first of all I knew the correct course was a little slower so I knew 310s might be doable but I needed a race heater so that was the goal and I think I got it pretty perfect so yeah I came out with the win so Dutch one and two right there what do you want to say to the friends and family watching at home?
Yeah, it's a lot of fun as bass and I grew up riding together. along with his little brother, Tom, and I didn't see him for a while and now we're back on the same loop, so it's fun, yeah, full circle moment right there, uh, not just the story with you and Baz, but also the first place in the classification. gold medal congratulations niels thanks it's not that crazy when that happens I mean you look at the rankings and say okay that's how we're going to base our predictions but when they have to work so hard to achieve it and those number one qualifiers are still take the win, it's so impressive, yeah I mean everyone improved their qualifying time with the fastest time of the day, but you heard Neal say it was pretty perfect and he was only .06 off the fastest time of the day , so he rose to the occasion, you know, under all the pressure and said this was going to be a perfect race.
I was able to execute it well. Great day of pump track racing here, the sun is shining and, uh, we've got it. We have one more day of competition here it's been a crazy ride with uh I mean a lot of different disciplines a lot of weather and we have one more event ahead of us it's pending style tomorrow I'll be here in the booth with alan cook elliot but I know you won't You're going to lose it. Are you going to be out there? you're gonna get good seats or what, oh man, I wouldn't miss it, these pending style guys, I can't even tell you how twisted it is that they do things like that, yeah, I look at it and I'm like, no, no, I don't get it, and especially you know opposite things and it's just amazing, but I was uh I was so happy to see it all. racing this week and I can't wait to see what awaits us in Rotorua, so it'll be a bit of a different runner list to what you've seen in our other disciplines here, so some of those familiar faces are doing up our kings leaderboard and with a few more points spread out right now, we have to update that leaderboard and see what Bass Van Steenberg looks like and get those second place points that will help him, but Niels Benson moved up to fifth place.
He's competing for prize money if he can hold on and this win today gave him 100 points, yeah, and that just goes to show that anything can happen, especially coming into this final round of crank jobs in Rotorua, there's tons of points. You have to play and anything can happen, so Jackson Frew and Joe Breeden are in second and third place in the kings classification. Here's what Queen Sandings looks like as she extends that lead. Yes, definitely, I mean, she is a professional who knows exactly what she needs to do. to manage her lead and Kailani taking that second place and just extending her lead over Harriet, but it's very close in the women for the second third and fourth Levi and Bass show continues here on our Crank Works 2021 world tour, they're done. race for the day, but we're not done with the broadcast for Silverstar yet, we have another event coming up, we're just talking about it a little bit, it will be the title slope style at Silverstar Bike Park presented by Cliff. place tomorrow I feel like it's exactly 24 hours until now here's a little preview of what to expect these are some clips from innsbruck the number one stop on the crank works world tour 2021 we have that man here tomorrow eric Fedco we have that man man here tomorrow nikolai ragakin emil johansen can you make it five wins in a row in pending style?
