If she put on an old jacket she looked great in it, you know, and I never saw her look, I mean, always stunning, she was just amazing, I mean, you never know she was just a star and you, I mean, I've been there through thick and thin with the

You know there's some kind of special treatment because you're still doing the job brilliantly at 80, which is extraordinary in itself, and I know that aboard Voyager. You always looked after yourself, they come and give you a special kind of cup of tea, don't they? There's a special T China tea cup for Arthur with the Union flag, uh, Union Jack, and um, I think that's really cute and it certainly seems like it's a fondness that I can tell just from the king's interaction with you and the queen Camila that they are not, not only do they recognize you in the work that you do, but there is a genuine kind of personal warmth and connection there, but I mean, was it like that?

I said, well we've been selling about three and a half million copies a day I said about 10 million people he said oh my God he said that's the reason why everyone goes, people have pictures on the back of my head, yes, but that was my first reprimand and I've had a few serious ones since, one in particular, I mean, I said it when I was, you've probably heard it before, but I'll say it again when I was sent to Hrove to take some photographs and I was walking on a public path. at the bottom of his land and he came galloping on his horse and shouted at me what are you doing on my land and I'm not on your land.

I only had one son who was about 18 months old and he was very happy. Do you know what it's like to get a job at a newspaper? I said, well, I said I was just uh uh. taking P, yes, he said, but he came in screaming, he said we were all in the kitchen having coffee and he hit the table with his whip, he said all the coffee cups flew and he said you're supposed to protect me and he stopped. my front garden I wasn't in it for a long time. I noticed it ran away pretty quickly, but I'm not surprised there were several of those that I had, you know, another one that I put in, I put ringham sand in, yeah, it really got into me, but at the end of I gotta say we had a and I defended myself again you know I'm not I'm not I'm not obviously I respect his role I respect him you know who he is but he's kind of He started yelling at me and you're there to do a job.
Basically, you've always been very professional and I think there's that respect because they obviously respect you. I mean Prince William, when I saw him in jobs, he went up. and say hello to Arthur, how are you? You always ask how I am, yes, and you photographed him when he was a child. You know you've seen William grow up. You've seen him marry Kate and William. I say C William, I mean, he, um, surprised me. how it has become in an incredible state now I mean, I remember when I was a young man I hated the press, remember once it comes close, you know, please don't offer any more photos, he said, no more photos, yeah, and he he was, you know he was really struggling, um unlike his brother, I mean, he loved it.
I remember when we were learning to ski, can you imagine two little kids learning to ski for the first time and 10 photographers photographing, oh God, poor kids, but would they make that kind of deal with the press back then, where Charles and the guys, they do a little press conference, but now you know there's a lot more privacy, the media allows them to have their kind of private time and, what do you think, what's your take on how it plays out? with the Princess of Wales, I mean, obviously we wish him the best as he continues his recovery.
She has always been someone. She is arguably the most famous and photographed woman in the world. She has taken that place that she has from Diana's late mother. I guess so, well, you. you know Diana was um you know Diana was the most famous famous woman of the 20th century. Katherine is quickly becoming one of the most famous women of the 21st century and, uh, and she certainly is brilliant at her job and you know she has three children and she really works incredibly hard and you know, William Man and Katherine want to be there at night with their children, they don't want the babysitter to put them to bed every night, they want them to be there reading the stories to them and them. make sure they scheduled it like that and um, you know, Katherine, I think we'll see how to work soon, you know, she, um, I think she, um, looks, you know, hopefully, you know she's getting the right treatment and , hopefully, the king.
You also know, I really want to see it. I hope I go to Australia at the end of the year and it will be my 31st visit to Australia with a ra. I was going to tell you, you know, you're kind of a place. all these pieces you've been to because your career has been so long and so illustrious, but have you noticed all the kinds of places you've been to? Do you have a list somewhere? No, I don't have a list, but I can. as you know, I was reading the story in the newspaper this morning about the times this morning, well, they read it to me when I read it every morning, it's my compulsive reading for me about the Solomon Islands, uh, about the elections there and I remember going to the Solomon Islands with William and C Katherine and and and and you know these places that, you know, people now go on vacation.
I remember going to Myque. I remember going to all this art. I went to Yes. I went to Myque. When, when Princess Margaret was there. with Rod, I mean, you know, I've had some, I've had an amazing experience, uh, but the thing is Kate is never the same as when you go there on vacation, for example, the sub to Australia many times and to New Zealand many times. but when I go there with my wife on vacation it's so much better, everything is so much more, you're more relaxed, you don't have to worry about taking the bus, you don't have to worry, you know, calling the office, it's just so much better, no It's the glamorous job people in the office think it is when you call from the Solomon Islands.
No? and you are exhausted. You know at the end of the day you want to do it. You know, people think. you're partying it's not time you've eaten something usually very late you just want to go to bed and rest so it's fun it's exciting what keeps you doing well because I like to see photos posted on paper and also you know and I've written this in a book recently and um you know I said that um if you like what you do and you like the people you work with, where do you want to stop and you know Tom?
Hank said he once went to see a psychiatrist and he said psychoanalyst and he wrote about dementia and he, the doctor, said the best way to prevent dementia he said he didn't retire and David Frost told me the same thing. I remember he appeared on that show through K you. I know when they broke into our house and I see whose house it was and it was David Frost and then I had a cup of tea with him and he said don't leave AR, you know, don't retire, he said keep it up as long as you can, he said because No, I don't need to work, but he said, you know, that keeps me busy and it keeps my brain going every day and I feel that way too, and you know I do too. a very good job and no one you know can still get clear images and put them in the newspaper.
I mean, you still bring that enthusiasm to it, which I think is brilliant and in that way I assume you're a great person. Like members of the royal family who don't have a retirement date like the late Queen, you just know she was she, she was photographed. I love, she died, that wonderful photo of Jane Bow, yeah, I can't tell you that's a wonderful, wonderful photograph and um. uh, yeah, of course, I mean, it's um, you know, I mean, look, recently, you and I were doing some work together with um, with the Duchess of Edinburgh, yeah, and uh, I got stuck in traffic horrendous and the stress of being late.
I'm never late and I remember getting there, you know, and I kept going and I was so relieved to know that you were so brilliant, even though you're so professional, you know, you know, you think that after doing everything you know, you'd say right. You know, the first time you know, the traffic beat me. I fought him and couldn't wait to get there. You know, and that's what surprises me about me. I have never counted and I have always tried and tried. and I tried and you know, it's been, it's been, um, it's been amazing, amazing times when I remember, it goes on and I remember, but I remember I once did a job in the Alps and in the snowy Alps and it was a big story. for the newspaper.
We had a great team of people there and when I went to the agency where I was supposed to wire my photos, they when I got there they had the bayts on and everything was being removed and there I was with two rolls of film, wonderful images. Truck driver stranded in the Alps wearing all the Sun t-shirts and uh, um, and I just called someone I knew in Zurich, they told me to go somewhere else, I went there, the guy was just going out for a day in a job. He said look there's my darkroom there's the wi machine go on and I had an idea what to do but I did it you know and I remember you know I was so determined to do it uh where I could have done it.
I easily told the office. I'm sorry, you know, but I couldn't do that. I wanted to see those photos in the paper the next day and I did fantastic.
