Loose Canon: Hades

Apr 30, 2024
what verse we are talking about and what book we are talking about. Despite the resurgence of interest in classical mythology around the Age of Enlightenment that has lasted until... well, now, I think we can safely say that this combination of The Bible Hades is the Place and God Hades the Guy , has more or less stagnation. Anyway, Justice League. This version was always kind of an example of the dumb and lazy Devil-Hades. And once again he tries to overthrow Zeus for reasons, and also... "Tormenting the pathetic soul of Faust." You got to be kidding. So Hades intends to give Olympus to the Titans. "Hades tricked my mother into opening the gates of Olympus to the invading titans." Where have we heard this before...? "Boom!

Badda-boom, boom, boom!" And Hippolyta had a thing for him at one point. And he is possibly Diana's father. "My mother sculpted me in clay and gave me life." "Your mother and I sculpted you together." ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ "is she gone?" "What did she ever see in him?" Well, did you see her tongue? Just think, this is the kind of boring bad boy the Disney version would have been if James Woods hadn't made one of the best decisions of his or anyone's career. "Bow down before me, mortals!" Next. "Are you here for a favor?" "Am." "Maybe then you can clarify for me why you think he would take your bands off." Hmm.

More Interesting Facts About,

loose canon hades...

Hades, you look different. "Where are my manners?" The aesthetic of this version is so atypical that I'm not sure what to say about it. But obviously more like Bacchus than Hades. So obviously this version doesn't have the same continuity as Justice League. And believe it or not, Hades, voiced by Oliver Platt, is not the central antagonist, but Ares, voiced by Alfred Molina. "I will never be able to repay your gesture." You know, Dr. Oc? Hades here is basically just a glorified cameo. And... well, points for points for different. Next. "We have visitors." Now we come to the movie version of Percy Jackson and the Philosopher's Stone.

I mean the Lightning Thief. God, this movie. "Would you rather he saw me like this... like this?" This performance is sort of an aging rock star, and is accompanied by an extremely bitter and confused Persephone played by Rosario Dawson. "Do not ignore me!" "OR WHAT? What will you do?!" Ehh...mm...okay. Hades almost did that 'I'm going to take over Olympus' thing. "I'm going to be king of the gods." But then... What huh? "The only thing I look forward to is my allotted time away from this hell. A war of the gods would put an end to that, and I would be alone... alone with him." Well.

Like I said, glorified cameo. Next. "You are specks of dust beneath our fingernails. Your very breath is a gift from Olympus. You have insulted powers beyond your understanding." "Who are you?" "I am Hades." Ah, we saved the worst for last! So unlike the 1981 movie that this remake is presumably named after, in which the antagonist was primarily Poseidon, which makes SENSE since Poseidon is a sea god and the kraken is a sea beast. "And from his own flesh, Hades gave birth to an unspeakable horror...the Kraken." Here, Ray Fiennes plays Hades as a sort of Voldemort via Battlefield Earth's Terl. "I will unleash the Kraken." Oh, are you going to give Draco an awkward hug now?
This version of Hades is also a tactile derivative. "Finally, some walk away from you." "How long has it been?" Hmmm, where have we seen this before? "How sentimental." It also basically has the same ending as the Disney movie. Hades is... banished? Uncomfortable? It's unclear, but it involves being thrown into a hole. He's in the sequel too, but he's less bad in that one. I don't know. Forward. "Launch the kraken!" The interesting contrast with Hades, the character, the idea, whatever, is how much it changes from one iteration to the next while still being borrowed. That satanic undertone that keeps showing up, for example, even though it never appears in mythology.
Or even the fact that, after the Disney movie was released, the Hadeses of pop culture still wanted to take over Olympus. There is no official Hades manual, but those intertwined influences are still there. And I think the older your character gets, the more of that you'll see, even if people get a little upset about it being inaccurate. Which, let me remind you, is not a barometer of enjoyment. Again, this was one of the least accurate. "This one is different, he's honest and sweet-" "Please..." "He would never do anything to hurt me-" "he's a boy!"
