Welcome to Christmas crochet patchwork. I'm Tanya. I'm going to help you work some of these patterns. On behalf of designers, you want to have your supplies. You can use any thread you prefer. I am using a cotton bamboo. mix yarn in colors I refer to as Country Christmas. You want to use a hook size appropriate for the yarn you have chosen. The designs were based on DK weight yarn with a four millimeter hook. I make it a little loose and my yarn is a little thinner, so I'm using a three millimeter hook for this video. To start, you will have to choose what your first background color is.

I'm sticking with similar colors to the first design of this crochet, so I'm using my background color is my light color, my pattern color is this blue color, so take the desired color for your base or for your background. Let's start by making a base bead. There are now video links in the written pattern for this. In this in more detail how to work this, but before working our initial base we need to know how many stitches we need, so for crochet you will need to have a minimum of 48 stitches long for the complete design of these different

s. stitches we add a border stitch at each end and there is an additional stitch that kind of balances the pattern so you would need 48 and you would multiply the 48 by the number of repeats you want for the width you want your blanket to be and then I would add three more points, so for my purposes for the video I'm just showing you the basic layout of 48 points plus the additional three, so that would be 51.

I need if you're doing two reps, that would be 48 times, 2 would be 96 more. 3 stitches that would be 99 and so on, so once you've decided on that number, let's make our base chain or initial bead. We are using the long tail method so I pulled out a piece of yarn which should be long enough for my desired stitches, if you are doing multiple repeats you will need a lot of yarn, you may want to use two separate balls so that my tail it's like on the front of my working yarn and on the back I have a slip knot on the hook, I just go under the tail yarn and under the working yarn and pass that working yarn through both loops under the tail, I grab the working yarn and pull it through both loops, so that's two, three, nine and ten.

It looks like a chain on most sides and is a little stretchy, but it's a nice, sturdy start, so you'll want to make as many stitches as necessary for your desired width. Our base or our initial cord. This

icular design is repeated twice. so there are 24 plus 24 to equal the 48 repetitions of the pattern. Before we start, let's go ahead and look at some of the symbols to understand this designer's chart, so on the chart you'll see a darker box which is the main repetition that we have. Make a single single crochet if there is a bar, it is a single crochet through both loops. A represents the background color B is the pattern color. This capital B alone is an edge. Sew the C is for color, the r is for row number, so when we look at the art fragments we can see the row numbers from one to the end and this says 27. So we'll see this big dark black box on the that we will work. this first little bit, then we'll work those 24 stitches and we'll go back and repeat those 24 stitches and then our final two stitches, if you decide you want more repeats, remember you need two of these to equal one of the main pattern repeats so you can See how we have these bars, that's our row one, which is a single crochet through both loops and then these empty boxes are the single crochets of the back loop and the x are those double crochets in the front loops, as explained before, we have our base cord for as long as the width is needed, I have made it as a pattern sample, so my basic repeat of 48 stitches, this particular pattern is 24 plus 24 to equal the 48. plus an additional stitch at each end plus one more to balance the pattern. that's 48 plus three I'm starting with 51 stitches the first row we take our color and our background color and we're going to make a single crochet in each of these chains working this cord it's very easy to find those chains to crochet and it also leaves a nice border on the border to work with when it's border time, so single crochet each chain to the end and bind off at the end of the row, then for the second row, we're going to take our contrast color and we're going To work a single crochet in the first single crochet and in the last one of the row we want to do it a little differently to prepare our double edge so that we can see these two legs of the single crochet that we want. to go in between those two legs, not just under the top two loops of the stitch, but between the two legs, but I want to see on the back.

I want to make sure that my hook comes out after the second leg of the single crochet and that just makes those side stitches easier to work when we come to work a double edge, so in row two of our diagram we can see how we're using the Color B, we've done our border or our border stitch that we're going to back off just. single crochet to the bottom, repeat that, make one more stitch back. Make a single loop and then work our edge. Stitch, so for me it will be 49 backwards. Make a single single crochet, so I've worked down the row with those in the back.

Make a single crochet loop. I have one stitch left and again we want to insert through both legs of the single crochet, but this time I want to make sure my hook comes out the back so that both legs are visible, so I go through both legs from the front , but on the back I want to be on the inside of those two legs and I pick up my loop, I finish a single crochet and you can go ahead and bind off. Row three using color a will start with that standing single crochet and again if We are using planning to make a border by following the three easy steps for a border.

Make a double loop and then we're ready to repeat those 10 front loops one more time, so remember that every 48 stitches you repeat in this particular pattern will make two of these 24 stitches, so I only have 48 long ones. I'm just making a strait. throw for mine, I'll do the 24 plus the 24. If you did three repeats of the 48 in your starting row, you would end up doing six of these 24 stitch repeats for this particular pattern, so we'll repeat again with those 10 double crochets. and so on along the line and I will join you just before the end of the line.

I worked my last rep to finish with those front nine looped double crochets. We want to add one more front loop double crochet before working our edge stitch. so if you're not making a border, you can just insert through both top loops for this last single crochet. If you are making the edge you want to insert between the two legs of the single crochet and then in the back make sure your hook comes out next to both legs, then you can go ahead and secure row four using Color B. We will work that stitch standing low for our first edge stitch and then we will work 12 backwards.

I tie only two single crochets. eleven and twelve back Loop single single crochet will work a front Loop single crochet so that it should fall between those two fronts Double loop of the last round worked in color B front Loop and then 11 back Loop single crochet single one two 10 and 11. So again you'll want to repeat that across the entire row, you'll have two stitches left and I'll join you there. When you've worked your reps, we'll do one more loop back just with a single crochet and then. followed by our edge Sew and bind off row five using color a, we'll start with that standing single crochet, we'll work two double crochets down the front.

Tie row three, one, two in front. I only tie one high point, one back. Simple three bow in front. Double loop one back Single loop one in front Double loop three back Single loop one double one single one double three back Single loop one double one single three in front Double loop one single and one double so then start with those two front Double loop I will repeat that on the row until you have two stitches left, so I've worked my reps on the row, we'll add one more double crochet in the front and then we'll finish with our border.

We sew that low point. They are fast enough in row six using Color. B starting with that edge Sew that single crochet will work 10 back Loop only singles one two nine and ten back Loop single single crochet will work a double crochet just before that front Double loop from the last round and a single repeat than a double single another double in front, make one loop with double crochets and then nine back. Make a loop with just a single crochet and then finish off our edge with a single crochet in row 11.
