HOW TO MEMORIZE LINES INSTANTLY (SERIOUSLY)

May 01, 2024
- What's wrong with everyone? Nelson Dellis is here for another episode of Random Memory Tips, and in this video, I'm going to teach you how to

memorize

any line of text, any line of poetry, very quickly. It's a really simple technique, and I don't even know how it works, for memory and memorization of that kind of thing. You have to see this, let's go. (energetic rhythmic music) So, I learned this technique by watching another YouTube video. It's not something that occurred to me or that I had heard of until I saw Lauren Tothero's video about this. I also don't know where she got it from or if it occurred to her, but I tried it and it involves zero memory techniques.

It is simply by doing this process that your brain somehow devours this information and is able to expel it. It's crazy. - Wait. - I will say that if you do this, yes, you will have the

lines

in your head very quickly, but then you may have to apply a memory palace technique to help solidify them there for longer periods of time. But if you're on set, if you're about to say something and you need to get those

lines

in your head, this technique is almost foolproof. I have a goal in mind, but I think to start we could do something very simple like this random line from a random poem called Sasquatch.

The Sasquatch crouches, flowers in hand, on an old stump by the river bed. Those are the first two lines. You read that line, or lines, a couple of times to get the gist of it in your head. Okay, so the Sasquatch crouches, flowers in hand, on an old stump by the river bed. Sasquatch crouches, flowers in hand, on an old stump by the river bed. Then what you do is, and you do it with a pen on a sheet of paper, to have that visual memory, write the first letter of each word. So it's just the T, S for Sasquatch and includes punctuation and capitalization if they have capital letters.

He squats flowers from comma to hand coma on an old stump next to the river bed. This is what I have. It doesn't seem like much, but what you're trying to do is try to read this, right? Try to read what it really is by simply using the first letter of each word. And it may seem a little impossible, but if you think about it and remember a little bit of the visual things you saw when you first read it, you can put it together. And if you can't get it, you can always look back, but you should be able to get it pretty quickly.

Then the Sasquatch crouches, flowers in hand, on an old stump by the riverbank. Believe. Bed. So what you want to do is, once you have that, read this a couple of times in your head. The Sasquatch crouches, flowers in hand, on an old stump by the river bed. The Sasquatch crouches, flower in hand, flowers in hand, on an old stump by the river bed. That's all. Now, that's not so impressive just because it's only two lines, so let's try it with maybe something a little more complicated like... - Nick, I want to explain. - What needs to be explained? -But I just want to say that---Look, I'm not the first man to fall in love with a girl he met in a restaurant who later turned out to be the daughter of a kidnapped scientist, only to lose her. a childhood lover whom he had last seen on a desert island and who turned out, 15 years later, to be the leader of the French underground movement. - I know.
It all sounds like a bad movie. -Just to reiterate what exactly the quote is, I'm not the first man to fall in love with a woman he met in a restaurant who turned out to be the daughter of a kidnapped scientist, only to lose her to his childhood lover, who He was last seen on a desert island and turned out to be, 15 years later, the leader of the French resistance. Yes. - Well, it's a little confusing. - Maybe I'll read it one more time. The first man to fall in love with a woman he met in a restaurant who turned out to be the daughter of a kidnapped scientist, only to lose her to his childhood lover, whom he last saw on a desert island and who later turned out to have 15 years. later, to be the leader of the French resistance.
Now, the next step is to write all those letters, just the first ones, and I think it helps if you write it in the same format that you're reading it. So if something skips the next line, you should write it that way. That way, you have the visual memory when you read it, the visual memory when you write it, and then you try to remember it with all those pieces together, you actually have a kind of amazing blueprint in your head. Here it is. Yes, that's a lot of letters, right? So, let's try to read it.
Let me see if I can read it. I have it here in case I need to take a look. The first few times, just try to get through it. I'm not the first man to fall in love with a woman he met in a restaurant who later turned out to be the daughter of a kidnapped scientist, only to lose her to his childhood lover, whom he last saw. on a desert island. Then he turned out, 15 years later, to be the leader of the French resistance. Alright, let's try this. (dramatic chord) I'm not the first man to fall in love with a woman he met in a restaurant who later turned out to be the daughter of a kidnapped scientist, only to lose her to his childhood lover whom he last saw on an island deserted area that turned out, 15 years later, to be the leader of the French resistance.
Boom. - Yes. - Very good, thanks guys. That was short. Pretty easy, I don't have much memory, but I hope it helps you. A lot of people ask me how I can remember specific texts very quickly and most of the time I tell them to just use a memory palace, but that requires a process. It takes some time, so it's actually a very quick method and I think it's fun. It's kind of weird how it just sucks in and anyone can do it, so go ahead and try that, and I hope it helps you. See you in the next video.
