Mar 06, 2024
Hey guys, in today's video I'm going to show you how I get a

tone

similar to Brad Paisley. He has an impressive aggressive

tone

, but keep in mind that many times we hear CD recordings and things that have disappeared. Through a series of master mixes and recording sessions and things like that, when we heard it live, we heard a hundred thousand watts of PA equipment and twenty-five speakers, you know, when we tried to emulate its tone with our little meter 212 combo amp. or whatever type of amp we use, we're going to have to bring out the best parts of your tone and today I'm going to show you how to do it with just three

pedal

s, so like I said, keep in mind that's us.

We're not filming to copy someone's tone, but to add reflections of their tone to our

pedal

setups and things like that. I'm really impressed with the setups on it and the delays on it and stuff, and it's a little bit different than I run my own tone, you know? So I'll show you my pedals one by one and tell you briefly because naturally you're not going to have exactly the same pedals. to tell you that you have a good idea of how I set up my mic impressions, my OverDrive and my delays and things like that, to be close enough to make me happy with a

brad

style tune, you know, okay, we start with the compressor here, this is. a wampler ego compressor I really love this pedal, you've heard me talk about it in other videos so I'm not going to dwell on it too much, you can see where my attack settings are.

I really like the fattiness of the mixture between the raw ones. The tone and compressed tone is really nice, you still get your raw

guitar

tone, it doesn't sound crunchy or squashed. You know compression and I have my attack. You know, it looks about 40 percent and the sustain is enough to do. those notes ring out and throw themselves through the mix to make your licks really stand out, so that's what sounds good with that, look, it sounds really, really compressed right now, but with the other pedals you heard how that is hidden. a little bit okay, so it sounds, it actually sounds pretty compressed more, so I might turn it down a little bit if I was on stage or something, but there's my compression settings, we'll move on to the next pedal now, okay, next pedal .

I'm using Wampler analog echo and man, when I was really studying Brad's tone and I was wondering how he gets that delicate feedback recipe and you know the delay times and stuff because it sounds very delayed and there's a lot of echo. You know, in the recordings of him that I heard and I was trying to find that delicate recipe. You know between the feedback and the actual echoes, I found out that there's only one slap that he uses, that's why he doesn't cover. all those billions of notes he throws out every bar, you know what I mean, he plays so fast on things that you know you don't want too much feedback, you just want a quick slap.

I'll show you, okay? We're just getting one very quickly. I don't know what the milliseconds are in that, but you can still tell there's a lot of delay, but with notes without feedback, without extras, it's fine if you don't have the analog echo of a foot. many of you have the boss DD 3 and this is how I said it is a little slower but it sounds very good, it is more or less the same, look, it does not hide the notes that I am playing, but Add that you already know that effect, that really cool effect where it sounds very aggressive and like in your direct tone.
Okay, here we have the new Paisley

overdrive

from Wampler pedals. You know, this was done with Brad's specific approval. so you know, it's spot on, they spent a lot of time on this and Brian sent me one a couple of weeks ago when it first came out and I've always had a love-hate relationship with

overdrive

pedals, they've always messed with my Too much tone I never found one that I was happy using as a constant tone. You know, something I leave on all the time and this is now something I leave on all the time. I literally took this out of the box and plugged it in.
I put it in and I'm not exaggerating at all, it didn't take any time, it took about 15 or 20 seconds to get the tone I wanted. You know, it really came out great out of the box and that's how I set mine up. I highly recommend you. Try to get one of these sometime. I don't know how much they cost, but I think they're a little pricey, but man, not for the tone you're going to get seriously, so it's really that good now, my ear. tells me that his tone over the years and on the last few albums has become a little dirtier than it used to be, so what I would do is try to find a middle ground between what I like to listen to and what I have heard.
I've been hearing it done lately, you know these are the only pedals I would really recommend using to get this specific tone. You know, chicken peg and tone I use all the time and it's kind of a happy mixed compression, not too much, just enough. to make the tone shake, you know, and the overdrive pedal and the delay and this is all I use to get it, haha, okay, to me that sounds close enough to Brad to make me happy, so just play with it, there's a lot of histone. in his technique and you know about him, I always say a lot of it is in the actual licks that you hear and his right hand technique, which is in Brad Paisley's video, so I hope that summed it all up.
I know you've been wanting to know how he uses his tone and stuff, and on this site I'm going to go ahead and post some links I found from him on his website and from other people where they posted links to photos of his gear and his pedal setup. and stuff like that, which is really cool, that's where I got some of my ideas from. The dd3 pedal here is where I got that setup from. I think I got it from one of his websites or something. and like me, he's always changing his pedals, he's always trying new things, you should always try new things, never settle or be content, you know with your playing or your melody, thanks for watching today, I hope you had fun a lot. ideas and things let me know what you're thinking as always and see you in the next video Oh Oh Oh you
